Poultry products are input to some sectors as well. Most of the item are major things used in our day to day life.
Issues like cement being more expensive in Nigeria than imported ones too can help reduce the extortion from some manufacturer like Dangote. When prices drop, every sector needing cement as input will get a boast. How is wheel barrow, toothpick, canned meat, beef, palm oil, cement, rice, frozen chicken etc raw materials and which industries use them as raw materials in Nigeria. |

Though this may be looked down upon based on the part of the world we found ourselves but always occur when you go for a job interview. No matter how secretive one wants to be, in no matter of time, it reveals itself in you. It's what makes you unique, that's who you are.
This qualities are what recruiters look out for in you. It also could be what the opposite sex long for in you during relationship.
The fact that some of these habits may not tow positive ways like others do not necessarily make them bad or to be termed negative. Everyone can't be a conformists thats why liberal society exists.
For you, what's that thing that makes you unique from the other person?
If this can get to the front page, it will allow us to get more comments on such a good question. Not bragging, I tend to easily analyze things and I'm good at problem solving. I am very fast in reasoning and intelligent. When I was in school, I found out that I was good at analysis than some of the junior lecturers, some close lecturers saw me as a very intelligent student. But you know, Nigeria is happening to me just like it is with almost every bright youth out there. Sorry bro, our leaders have failed us, but do I blame them? I blame the same poor citizens. Hang on, keep doing what you know best, God will see you through.
I don't have money and that means staying hungry and forcing myself to go to all the places even without food.
So where I passed yesterday, I saw a construction site and i decided to go to that place today being Friday to look for any menial job i can do to earn a living. With so many things on my head, hunger, frustration and all, unconsciously, I didnt know i was talking to myself and was about crossing road without looking if any car was coming. Shockingly there was this car that almost swept me. The driver matched the break with a very loud horn. The shock threw me into unconsciousness and i fainted. How the people around helped me regain consciousness I dont know. I'm even surpised the car didt hit me.
To God be the glory that I didnt pass to the great beyond.
I have this to tell to drivers and car owners out there.

If people want to exchange naira for dollars at N5000 to $1 on the black market, it is up to them. Government has no control over that market.
The question remains, where is the dollar that CBN will provide for these importer? Our foreign reserve is almost empty and we do not get enough forex from sell of crude oil. |

Politics › Re: CBN Lifting Of Forex Ban On 43 Items Previously Ban. My Take by Saintinoo(op): 7:23pm On Oct 13, 2023 |
ozolity: I think the major reason for lifting the ban is to close the gap between the parallel market and the official market for exchange rate. These products were still being imported but the importers sourced funds from the parallel market. The CBN wants to bring them to the official window so as to reduce patronage of the black market. Sure, they were still bring imported, so CBN wants to discourage patronage of the black market by lifting these ban. |

Paraman: You haven't make your research well concerning this issue.
A kg of rice cost between $0.8-$1.5 per kg in china.
No matter what, a 25kg bag of rice from china will be cheaper than a 25kg rice produce in Nigeria.
If an importer buy a good quality of rice for $0.40 per kg, a 25kg rice will only cost about $11
No factor will make the rice sell more than 25k in Lagos except greediness Do you know how much a Toyota car is sold in Japan? Or ford in US? You see it as greediness because you don't understand how these things work, government policies make these good expensive with other resulting effects I just mentioned above. Import duties, imported inflation, other taxes, shipping cost. Go to any Igbo man shop at Alabama market and ask, they buy these goods at a very cheap rate in China, but will spend more than 250 percentage of the cost of that goods just to Bing it to their warehouse. |
Politics › CBN Lifting Of Forex Ban On 43 Items Previously Ban. My Take by Saintinoo(op): 6:26pm On Oct 13, 2023 |
It was with joy that many Nigerians received the news from CBN yesterday that the 43 items previously banned from accessing forex have been lifted. What do you expect, Nigerians are suffering and to couple it, we are so emotional in this country. But the question is, what are the implication of this policy by CBN?
Already there is shortage of forex in the country, many do not know why CBN have scarcity of forex, well, we don't have enough dollar in our reserve because we export few commodity in the international market.
Implication of this policy by CBN:
1. Scarcity of forex: the already scares dollar will be fought for by many importers, making the dollar even more scares, and in economics, scarcity creates value. Now you can say that we are devaluing the naira more.
2. Threat to local production: a country which is having such exchange rate problem should look at ways to improve and increase exports, and also increase local production for local consumption and have less need for exported goods. This will reduce pressure on the dollar directly and also grow our local industries. Forex which should have been provided for manufacturers is now given to importers of finished goods.
3. Risk of imported inflation: It might interest you to know that the current inflation is not only a Nigerian thing, but global, intact, inflation is currently biting hard in US, UK and many advanceddd economies, while we import those commodities, we also import inflation coming with it, added to the inflation in Nigeria.
4. Higher Import duties: most people might think that that bringing in commodities like cement, rice and beef into the country will bring down the prices, many factors will still shoot up price, like higher import duties, clearing fees etc.
In summary, inasmuch as lifting the ban on those 43 items was aimed at reducing hardship, I see it as a trial and error kind of policy since they (CBN) didn't tell us how or what they plan to achieve with it. May God help us all.

Politics › Re: Why MPR Doesn't Reduce Inflation And How To Fix It by Saintinoo(m): 3:15pm On Sep 28, 2023 |
Seun: The textbook definition of Monetary Policy Rate is "the rate at which a central bank lends to commercial banks". By that definition, Nigeria's MPR under Emefiele wasn't 18.5% but 11.5%, & the current MPR isn't 18.75% but 15.75%, which is still low when inflation is 25.8%.
The idea behind using MPR to fight inflation is that when a central bank's MPR is jacked up, banks will lodge more excess funds with the CBN, leading to an automatic mopping up of excess liquidity (money).
It doesn't work in Nigeria because CBN says that they will only pay interest on N2b of excess funds per bank. That has limited the amount of excess naira that banks deposit with the CBN - i.e. the amount of naira that can be mopped up by MPR - to about N50b.
Before the limitation, in 2014, up to N705b was mopped up. So how can mopping up N50b affect inflation in 2023, when Nigerians have N21.7 Trillion naira in their bank accounts and the total money supply M2 is N64.89t?
We will need to mop up several trillions of naira from circulation to see an impact on inflation. If CBN removes the N2b limitation, this will happen and we will see the true effect of our 15.75% effective MPR.
It may need to be done in steps, so that we won't have a situation where the effect of over 1 year of interest hikes will be unleashed on the economy in a single moment. Maybe raise the cap to N50b/bank. Then N100b/bank. Then lift it completely.
So that MPR, the CBN's best anti-inflation tool, will work again. I call it "Unbreaking The MPR". Bankers call it removing the cap on the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF).
It will strengthen the naira and reduce inflation, guaranteed. I hope Dr Yemi Cardoso sees this somehow and takes action. That is the problem we have in Nigeria, just the way successive government have been appointing commercial bankers to head the central bank. The MPR is just one tool used in curbing inflation, it depends on what type of inflation. Nigeria needs experts in it fiscal and monetary institutions and not just bankers. First of all, CBN have to define the type of inflation we are experiencing and find ways to curb it, our inflation is a cost push type of inflation, believe you me, inflation in Nigeria for the past 8 years has been caused by increase in the cost of production, do we need to adjust MPR to solve this? The answer is no. There are other measures we can use to control this. Inflation, poor exchange rate and unemployment are few macro economic problems affecting Nigeria at the main time, the policy makers know how to tackle them, but they will not, because they are seriously benefiting from it. Economic recovery is not difficult, Nigeria policy makers do not want our economy to recovery that is the truth. |

Politics › My Reaction To Wale Edun's Policy On Cutting Money Supply. by Saintinoo(op): 12:43pm On Aug 23, 2023 |
Nigeria has since 2014 seen a raising prices of goods in the market, through 2016 till date, inflation have been on the increase and government and central bank have been almost clueless on the solution. Recently the Minister of Finance to president Bola Tinubu, Mr Wale Edun have suggested a contractionary monetary policy by cutting down money supply into the economics. Although there have been debates as to if this policy is best for the economy.
My Opinion
Cutting off money supply into the economy looks like an effort only in theory, put it is still a nice approach to reduce inflation, although not the ultimate. Now let's see what inflation is.
According to both the monetarist and Keynesians Inflation is the continuous increase in price of goods as a result of too much money in circulation, WITHOUT A CORRESPONDING INCREASE IN THE PRODUCTION OF GOODS IN THE ECONOMY.
You will see that I used caps letter for the last sentence, that is one place Nigeria is getting it all wrong. Need I add why the naira is having a free fall. What policy should the government of Nigeria pursue? In my opinion.
1. Import substitution strategy: Here government must prioritize investment in manufacturing sector, provide credit to manufacturers, boost confidence of foreign investors. The goal is to produce locally those things we import, as we also import inflation while importing. This strategy makes more goods available to match the already increase in money supply that causes inflation.
2. Managing the FX market: But how do you successfully manage the FX market when your naira is at the mercy of the dollar? Import substitution strategy also comes in. When we produce more in Nigeria (including petrol), there will be less pressure on the naira to chase dollar, then naira stabilizes. I had NNPCL got a 3bn dollars loan to stabilize naira, and I ask, how will they do that.
3. Religiously fight corruption: If we keep implementing nice polices with corruption still in place, these policies are going to end up as paper policies. How about distributing grants and loans to manufacturers and it ends up in the bank accounts of senators as a token, or to a particular greedy manufacturers alone? Then the policy becomes a textbook policy.
3. Massive investment in agricultural sector: You will agree with me that most inflation in Nigeria today are food inflation, and, of course this food inflation was as a result of demand push inflation, cost of farming inputs went as high as 200 percent. Government must find a way to encourage local producers of farm inputs through supervised credits, provide cheap irrigation facilities to farmers and food inflation will reduce, just like what happened with rice around April 2023. Rice produced via irrigation reduced the price of the commodity for some months.
Fix back the naira: This point came as a surprise but how do you float your currency when you are operating a mono-economy. Nigeria depends on oil and gas for over 90 percent of her revenue, so at this rate, what every happens to the naira at the international market, equally affects the citizens, just like the continuous increase in fuel price. If we must float the naira to the dollar, then we must export more than just oil and gas.
In all of this, government must prioritize key sectors like manufacturing, power and agriculture while supporting SMEs to increase GDP and bring down inflation.
Every implemented policy was once a theory. Good day. |
