SportsRe: Finidi George Offers To Coach Golden Eaglets For Free by saintolaf(m): 2:20pm On Dec 30, 2017
ogbonti:
As a member of the All-conquering Ajax Amsterdam FC team of 1995, that won the Dutch Eredivisie (league), Dutch FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Club Cup, playing alongside the legends like Frank Rijkaard, Danny Blind, Marc Overmars, Frank De Boer, Ronald De Boer, Jari Litmanen, Kanu Nwankwo, Aaron Winter, Edgar Davids etc, Finidi made his mark as the player who scored the all important away goal that secured a 1-1 draw between the super eagles of Nigeria and the Cherif Oujanni led Desert Warriors of Algeria in October 1993 all important last World Cup qualifiers in far away Annaba, Algeria. His goal took Nigeria to her first ever FIFA World Cup at USA 94, which till date remains our best performance at the Mundial, beating the likes of Hristo Stoichkov (the best free Kick taker in the world and Barcelona talisman) led Bulgaria, 3-0 and Greece 2-0 where Finidi scored the last goal. On his debut for the Super Eagles, in 1991 for the Senegal'92 Nations Cup qualifier, Finidi scored the last goal in the 7-1 mauling of Burkina Fasso by the super eagles of Nigeria, prompting the fans to start singing "e don do" - to the avalanche of goals scored to pepper the Burkinabes. He was also a key member of the all conquering Super Eagles team that won the African Cup of Nations at Tunisia'94. This tale of glory made Him the best winger in the world as voted by FIFA technocrats in 1995. It was said then that if Finidi George cross a corner kick to an amateur player in the Nigerian league, that player will score even against Brazil or Germany. He was so good with his crosses, and runs through the right flanks.Unfortunately, he lost his younger brother Iginewari Gerorge to some reckless shooting by a police officer targeting a Marco Polo bus carrying players from Enugu Rangers in 1995. Iginewari was suppose to step into his shoes having played FIFA U-16 World Cup for Nigeria in 1995. Many believed Finidi never recovered from that tragedy, and the NFA and Nigerian authorities did not do enough to bring the perpetrator to justice and Finidi was heart broken, and he never really recovered. Series of knee injuries afterwards knocked him off competitive football and the rest is history.

This is the man begging Nigeria to coach her U-16 for free? Even if he does not possess the classroom qualifications as a certified coach, please give it to him based on his service to his fatherland and most importantly to the memory of Iginewari, who died 22 years ago !

LET EVERY RIGHT THINKING NIGERIAN WISH THE TEAM GOODLUCK

WE MUST ALSO HAVE IT IN MIND THAT MOST TIMES THE ''SUPER CHICKENS'' OFTEN PERFORM ABOVE EXPECTATIONS WHEN PREPERATIONS

ARE NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT,

AS FOR IK UCHE AND ANICHEBE, I THINK THEY MUST PRAY FOR BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME, BECAUSE FIFA MADE PROVISIONS FOR 23 SQUAD MEMBERS

AND OUT OF 30 A COUPLE OF THEM HAD TO BE DROPPED.

HOWEVER, I LOOK FORWARD TO THE MUNDIAL WITH HOPE FOR A GOOD PERFOMANCE FROM THE BOYS,

BECAUSE THAT MAY JUST BE THE TONIC THAT WILL REVIVE MY INTEREST IN WATCHING THEM PLAY AGAIN, IT MAY INTEREST YOU TO KNOW THAT

[b]I STOPPED WATCHING THE BOYS OR MEN SINCE THEY FLOPPED AGAINST GHANA IN ANGOLA.

I REST MY CASE!!!!!!!! grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
