Dont just talk, qoute references. In proper hospital settings , there is a triage area, where they bring in all emergencies and a triage officer will assess them and take in the most critical into the ER. He wont take in a dead patient, they send to morgue, he will not even take in a patient that he knows they might not be able to save he will be looking for the most critical patient that the interventions within the hospitals ER can save , take in those ones before considering others. This are appropriate response in triaging, you cant be busy doing cpr on a dead patient when you have another with splenic rupture that can be brought back to life if you respond fast. Now in many hospitals in Nigeria, including UCH, LUTH, National Hospital Abuja the triage is just outside their ER. So tell me what this Hospital has done wrong

It shouldnt take more than 30s even if the doctor is attending to another emergency he should leave that one and be there in less than 4 min.
Lets be fair in our judgement.
Hypothetically lets assume they brought their patient, meet the nurses, took some history, alert the doctor, the doctor use his judgement to triage and see if he should leave what he was doing to see the new emergency. Even typing this reply alone almost took me 4min. Abeg

how do you as a doctor satisfy one dead without running a proper check on him with equipment... he might be unconscious, they should have run a check on him, did they run CPR to ascertain if the person is not breathing or does not have a pulse... I always give up in Nigeria doctors

As a doctor you know the difference between a dead patient and the one with cardiopulmonary arrest. It doesnt even require gadgets or 'equipment' just your steth and a light source

For some reason that I can't explain yet, I am yet to accept Telegram. I have installed the app on several occasions only to uninstall it later. So I met with Infinitikoncept’s Lawyer today and Willy30’s Dad.. I signed all necessary documents and the goods will be sent through courier to Ibadan on Monday.. The Lawyer explained a lot to me. And while I understand the fact that Mr Infinitikoncept was trying to protect his business. He did it in a way I won’t call customer friendly. Well, Everything has been resolved and I can say that Mr Infinitikoncept had no intention of converting the goods to his personal use.. He just needs to learn how to treat customers.. I’ll update this thread when I get the items. On Tuesday hopefully

Below is what the op was trying to explain in layman's terms.

Our people wrongly believe that the only Sickle cell disease out there is SS. In truth, there are many 'combinations' like SC, SB-thal, SD punjab etc. (notice they all have one thing in common, at least one S in the combination)

Now let's put our heads together, how do you think people get these other types? ....
Ans: exactly the same way you get the SS.

So, if you are AS and get married to AC, AB-thal, or Ad punjab, u stand a risk of getting a child with Sickle cell disease. It's that simple.

Another question... How many of our labs here in Nigeria do you think can correctly detect AC, AB-thal, or Ad punjab?
Ans: Basically a few. I saw my first SC in a px 2 years ago in a 17 year old who was told her whole life that she was AS.
Most labs can't pick up the C, b thal or d punjab, once they see an A with no S, they automatically assume it to be AA but in truth might actually be AC, AB-thal, or Ad punjab.

In essence, it is possible for 'AA' (wc we know now might actually be AC, AB-thal, or Ad punjab) to get married to AS and give birth to SC, SB-thal, SD punjab.. (wc again our labs will incorrectly call SS since they lack the proper equip to detect the C, b thal or d punjab and seeing one S and no A will call automatically it SS).

If you are in doubt, then recheck your genotypes in a center with the right equipments.


I hope I have sufficiently cleared the air. Now, please go and spread the word and stop castigating that poor innocent woman.
