Nairaland GeneralGender Inequality: Was Feminism Just a Fad? by salako(op): 2:27pm On Nov 01, 2005
Was feminism a [just] fad (short-lived fashion: something that is very popular but only for a short time)? Has the battle for equal rights been won? Is that why women have gone from burning their bras to buying push up ones?

Some women argue women can still be a feminist and wear pink fluffy slippers - oh and have sex with men. just where is feminism today?

All views welcome.
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Does One Judge What is Right and What is Wrong? by salako(op): 1:37pm On Oct 25, 2005
IAH, Seun & Bumpyman: both of you seem to judge right and wrong based on your thoughts and feelings...

IAH:
I judge what is right or wrong based on what I feel/think... I think homosexuality is... I also think parental domination of an adult is...
Seun:
Let me tell you how I judge right and wrong. If I think it is right, it is right. If I think it is wrong, it is wrong... I don't think homosexuality is... I happen to think that parental domination of an adult is... if I think it is wrong, it is wrong!
You both based right and wrong on your own initiative, but your initiative are bias and may not be appreciated by others...

Seun:
That is, after analyzing the consequences of such actions on my life and life of others I care about.
Well what about the people you don't care about? what if they feel wronged... are you completely just?

Hitler felt/thought what he was doing was right before the country got behind him, his intentions were to create a perfect crime free society, where everyone was equal and perfect as he saw fit. He wanted to end (what he thought was) German "oppression" at the hands of Jews and the rest of Europe (remember Germans did suffer). ALSO HITLER WAS A CHRISTIAN WITH LINKS TO THE POPE!!

So what essentially makes your initiatives different to Hitlers?
Are your initiatives for: the interest of yourselves and the people YOU care about; the common good (i.e. socially accepted), or perhaps Gods law?
Nairaland GeneralHow Does One Judge What is Right and What is Wrong? by salako(op): 7:16am On Oct 25, 2005
If Something Is Socially Approved, Does That Make It Right?

FACT: In the Encarta Dictionary one of the definitions of "Right" is "Socially Approved".

Do you agree?

What about when Nazi Germany slaughtered all those people? that was socially approved in Germany.

Whenever there has been slavery there has been social approval.

But if what is "Right" is not what is socially approved then tell me - how does one judge what is Right and what is Wrong?
Nairaland GeneralCensorship: Good or Bad? by salako(op): 7:00am On Oct 25, 2005
Censorship is the control of speech and other forms of human expression, often in the context of government control. It is most commonly applied to acts which occur in public circumstances, and generally involves a suppression of them by criminalizing their expression. What is censored may range from specific words to entire concepts, and the ostensible motive of censorship is to stabilize (?) or "improve" the society over which the government has control.

Nairaland members, consider your thoughts, ideas, beliefs and values. These things are of priceless intangible value to us because these are the things that define us.
Do you believe it is right for others to censor your or anybodies contribution to society?

Should your voice be silenced for "common stability" or must the "truth" be heard?

CrimeIs There Any Crime That Justifies Execution? by salako(op): 6:33pm On Oct 24, 2005
Capital Punishment: Justified or Not?

Many have been executed and many are yet to be from Jesus to Ken Saro-Wiwa to Saddam.

Is there any crime/action the justifies execution?

Nairaland GeneralNairaland I am so bored! - What should i do tomorrow...? by salako(op): 10:30pm On Oct 17, 2005
I'm in London if that helps (ideas). I need creative ideas of how i should spend my day, perhaps even the week.
Try to think of ideas that don't require me to spend more than £20 a day.
I am looking for fun and excitement, intrigue and astonishment! Perhaps even a new hobby...

Any idea is better than none, so let loose Nairaland... hold nothing back, release yourselves from any restraints and make me busy!! smiley
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Are the Most Corrupt People In the World? by salako: 6:42pm On Oct 17, 2005
Absolute fiction - what is called bribery in naija is called lobbying in U.S. and U.K.
What is called 419 in naija is called foreign policy in UK and US.

All countries are equally corrupt, only naija is more blatant about it, unlike the 360degrees of British and American camouflaged deceit.
CelebritiesRe: Do Nigerian Actresses Know What a Gym Is? by salako: 6:29pm On Oct 17, 2005
If thin, toned people is all you want then that is all you may get - never mind talented, realistic actors; chase the talentless, imaginary actors of Hollywood!
Nigerian actresses are real women - and the fact is real women do not remain 18 forever nor do they struggle to be forever objectified.

PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria Worth Dying For? by salako: 3:20pm On Oct 17, 2005
NO... because Nigeria like all countries is simply 'a plot of land'.
Anybody that is prepared to die for 'a plot of land' has little regard for their life.

Nairaland GeneralRe: What One Thing Would You Change About Nigeria? by salako: 1:55am On Oct 15, 2005
I would make philosophy a mandatory subject in all education systems, so all people are fully aware of the laws of causation, to the point where it completely influences their every decision.
I would do this in every country on this earth.

Christianity EtcRe: What Can You Die For? by salako: 12:00pm On Oct 11, 2005
I would be prepared to die only for my free will to serve/practise my philosophy/religion.
If I cannot live free, those who hold my life against my will, will have to take my life.
I will never surrender to any man, my God given Free Will.

He does everything that a successful businessman/pastor does. He has meetings with various entities setting up more business ventures. He holds seminars every Sunday, or at least he did. He preaches/lectures on television in front of a live church audience. He markets his service (Haven't you seen him on the back of London's buses?).
He is the wheeler and dealer behind the scenes making it all happen with his team.
RomanceWhen You're On A Break Is It Ok To Sleep With Someone Else? by salako(op): 11:28am On Oct 11, 2005
When on a break from your partner... what are the rules?

I was watching an episode of US sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. One of the characters (Ross), while on a break form his relationship from another (Rachel), had sex with another woman.
That act cost him the relationship but was he not within his right (since he was on a break) to explore other women.

Does it make a difference depending on which partner - male or female partakes in exploration?

Please share your thoughts and ideas...
Christianity EtcRe: Buy a Flat on Your Church's Credit Card by salako: 2:23pm On Oct 10, 2005
I have been to that church.
The fact is that guy (Oshimolowo) and his crew provides entertainment, (subjective) enlightenment, a big safe (vastly black) community, (subjective) inspiration, a visually appealing congregation and various interesting events. They provide all this for a reasonable price.
Lots of people want/like the service they provide and they are prepared to pay for it.
Just like any business man he is making some cash and so are his crew. Some hegemonic hypocritical governmentals fear the following this church has. They recognise the financial (thus political) influence this church has and is quickly increasing.
They want to halt Oshimolowos progress and or split the church or replace the leading administration. I.E. they want to manage it now before it can influence them.

or maybe not wink
