South East Stats: 2015 Election. PVC Ratio: 86.3% Voters turnout: 42% National Assembly: 87.7% PDP. Total Pres.Votes: 89% PDP & 7% APC. The South east were very intentional with its support for PDP so much that without it’s 198k votes APC’s buhari would still have won regardless. Political suicide you might call it. But in 2019, even with a lesser voters turnout they took their chances and made same bold statement for PDP only that Imo state gave APC the 25% constitutional requirement. This region have sacrificed for the party…it’s only fair for the party to in turn support the region in its quest for the presidential ticket. The south east have earned it.

trutharena:Well…never knew this….thanks for the education |
Afamed:Lol…I’m no wailer |
The vp in his recognition of the founding fathers of APC recognized Bisi Akande before Tinubu. Mehn things have gotten messy. He shouldn’t get confrontational. |
The information and communication minister has been unusually quiet for a while now. Has he lost faith in this government or the Abdulrahman faction pushed him off? |
@ OP, Although you started very biased against Osinbanjo….but I eventually got each of your points clearly. You sound like one with insider info and if that is anything to go by….it’s really a tall order for Osinbanjo. |
Gaabasky:Well, i understand your point but he was acting president for non-continuous period of 5months and he was quite objective in his actions & decisions. |
APC Presidential Ticket: The Osinbanjo - Asiwaju Contrast - Part 1 The choice of who become APC flagbearer is purely a party affairs but comparing the 2 most talked about in APC as at today, below is my thoughts Competence & Leadership According to Wikipedia, Competence is the set of demonstrable characteristics and skills that enable and improve the efficiency or performance of a job and Leadership, both as a research area and as a practical skill, encompasses the ability of an individual, group or organization to "lead", influence or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. Both Vice President Osinbajo (VP Osinbanjo) & Party’s national leader Tinubu (NL Tinubu) have shown & demonstrated competence at different point of their political careers. They have also, both demonstrated leadership at its best at different points. VP Osinbanjo Many have alluded to the remarkable achievements of VP Osinbanjo at the Lagos state ministry of justice while he served as attorney general and commissioner for justice under NL Tinubu as governor for 8 years. Some of his notable achievements includes the idea of bringing justice to the masses, specifically the establishment of both office of the Public Defender & Citizen mediation center. These establishment assisted the public with pro-bono services. Also, Improved welfare for judges by extension elimination of judiciary corruption was achieved under VP Osinbanjo as commissioner for justice. Both Magistracy and high court bench benefitted from a review of their working conditions and practice. The high rating of the Lagos state judiciary in terms of integrity and efficiency today is largely due to the foundations built by VP Osinbanjo. This was corroborated on ChannelsTV Sunrise show by a current member of federal house; Hon. Kuye Ademorin who was a practicing lawyer and a current member of NL Tinubu’s support group. Its important to mention that all these achievements were under the leadership of NL Tinubu as governor and as such provided the support and enabling environment for these. VP Osinbanjo also played a vital role in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria successful push to recover stolen electoral mandates of south west state at the election tribunal. VP Osinbanjo displayed competence as Acting president for a non-continuous period of 5months, providing good leadership even in the face of difficult situations like firing the all-powerful DG of DSS for invading the National assembly with his men. Also, forwarding to the national assembly for confirmation as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria; Samuel Walter Onnoghen who has been in acting capacity despite NJC recommendations. As chairmen, National Economic Council, he has pushed many policies to the betterment of Nigerians and he led NEC to set up judicial panels of enquiries in each state to investigate and compensate victims of police brutality and End-Sars related protest. NL Tinubu Although there is only a few documented information about the achievements through the professional career of NL Tinubu, but the fact that he was an accountant with Mobil oil Nigeria and then rose to become an executive of the company speaks volume about how successful a career person he was. It’s a widely accepted fact that NL Tinubu drew the blueprint of both infrastructural and economic development we see in Lagos today. He pioneered the Bus Rapid Transit and the traffic management authority to bring sanity to the transportation challenges of Lagos state. He displayed strong leadership by conviction through the creations of additional local government areas even though the Federal government was against such. He was convinced, that this will bring governance closer to his people and provide them various forms of employment opportunities. Lagos state and a few other states had earlier created additional LGAs and upon the FG wielding the big stick, to stop statutory allocations to all affected states, other states quickly reverted to the old councils for their allocation to be restored but Lagos state with NL Tinubu as governor remained resolute in its conviction and dragged the FG to the supreme court instead. Supreme court would later rule that the FG’s actions were illegal and ordered release of allocations backlog, a political solution was reached on the LGA. Another very impeccable leadership traits of NL Tinubu are his ability to identify, develop and create platforms for exceptional persons to explore their potentials to the fullest and benefit of the society. VP Osinbanjo, FM Fashola, FM Aregbesola, Gov Sanwolu, Gov Fayemi, Gov Oyetola to mention but a few are all product of NL Tinubu “leadership school”. NL leader Tinubu was also, most instrumental in the coalition of defunct ACN & CPC to form the APC. The All Progressive Congress (APC) would go on to win 2015 general elections, defecting the incumbent. Verdict: On the assumption, that the best predictor of future events is past events, I will say both VP Osinbanjo & NL Tinubu are both exceptionally qualified in their rights in terms of competence & leadership. |
