I would have considered your post near perfect save for the bolded part. Like I earlier mentioned, I'd gladly prefer Buhari to Jonathan whose administration has grounded almost every sector of Nigeria to a halt. And your Jonathan has a PhD in Cassava Studies he claims to describe as Zoology yet cannot lead the country to sanity. He initially campaign with the 'I have no shoes' to amass vote and earn our trust, we threw everything at his feet and he ended up laughing at our ignorance. I have a single prayer and I'll gladly join your cause if only you can say 'amen' to the prayer that God will deal with your family the way Jonathan is ruling Nigeria.

Then why has Jonathan not arrested him long before he declared his intention to run for the presidency. Let's put sentiments aside and reason with our heads. Jonathan has failed Nigeria and it will only get worse. I've been indifferent about Nigerian politicians but I'd gladly stake my neck to see Jonathan out of office.

Dad

We never really stayed together as a family and I grew up nurturing the thoughts that I never had one. I was always mindful of the fact that trouble was the least of things I wanted to get into because he was never around. Mum was strong and very supportive and even while I pretended I never needed a dad, I'd patiently admire friends whose dads were around. The first and the last time we saw was somewhere in 2006, we argued cos I was mad at him and I walked out on him while he just kept quiet. I hated him because I felt he was a stranger.

And then, in 2011, I was in my second year in the university, I had just returned from some annoying classes that evening when mum called to inform me that my copy had passed on. I felt nothing at first because I thought of my growing up teenage years and how he was never around. I couldn't help the tears afterwards while I played Luther Vandross' 'Dance With My Father'. I wept for a long time and I hated myself for not forgiving him. Wish I had a dance with him. Either being around or not, he was my popsman and I loved him for that.
Health › How Healthy Is Your Brain? Take This Test To Find Out by Sanchez01(op): 10:53pm On Jan 01, 2015
Internet brain games aren’t the only way to gauge what’s going on between your ears. A simple physical test may be able to tell you how healthy your brain is, according to a new study from Japan, published in the journal Stroke.

In the study, researchers had 1,387 healthy people stand on one leg with their eyes open for as long as possible, up to a minute. Then they performed MRI’s on the subjects, whose average age was 67, and had them complete four cognitive tests.

Interestingly, the length of time the people could balance predicted what the scientists saw on the brain scans: Those who were unable to stand flamingo-style for more than 20 seconds were more likely to have cerebral small vessel disease, a condition where tiny blood vessels deep in the brain are damaged. None of the study participants showed any symptoms.

Politics › Nigerian Army Dismisses 203 Soldiers After Secret Night Trial by Sanchez01(op): 10:34pm On Jan 01, 2015

The Nigerian Army has dismissed 203 soldiers after a secret court martial held in the dead of the night, for allegedly disobeying a direct order from their commanding officer, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
One of the sacked soldiers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the soldiers were dismissed for asking for support equipment, following the army’s plan to convey them in a tipper for an operation in Bama and Gwoza, two strongholds of Boko Haram insurgents.
The soldier, who is originally of the 19th Battalion in Okitipupa in Ondo State, but attached to the 7th division in Maiduguri, said the army detained them for over 90 days before dismissing them after a midnight trial. He said they are owed up to five months in unpaid salaries.
Narrating the event that led to their dismissal, the soldier said his unit reconvened in Maiduguri last August, after they were dislodged by the insurgents in Damboa in an operation where their commanding officer and several other soldiers were killed.
He said they were given two weeks pass and that at the expiration of their pass, they were issued new uniforms, boots and 30 rounds of bullets each as opposed to the statutory 60 rounds. And were going to be conveyed in a tipper lorry to Gwoza and Bama for an operation.
He said having engaged the insurgents in several past battles, majority of the soldiers argued that the operation would be fierce, and therefore requested support equipment.
“So we asked for support weapons. No support weapon was provided. Our CO (Commanding Officer) said he would discuss with the GOC (General Officer Commanding) of the 7 Division at the headquarters. When he came back, he said we should stand down. We thought all was well,” our source said.
But the request made by the soldiers fetched them more than they bargained for.
The next day their new CO, Mohammed A, a lieutenant colonel from 195 battalion, Agenebode, ordered them to submit their weapons and uniforms or be charged with mutiny.
“On the morning of 16 of August, after the GOC briefing, our commander started calling our names and he said anyone whose name is called should submit their uniform and weapon. He added that anyone who failed to do that would be charged for mutiny. We were surprised at what was happening.
“He started from the most senior soldier among us, a warrant officer who had served for almost 30 years. They asked us to go back to the barrack. It is a war zone and our weapons had been taken from us. Staying around was of no use so we left Maiduguri back home.”
The next order from the army hierarchy was for the soldiers to report to the 4th Brigade headquarters in Benin where they were detained for three months.
“They kept us in the fenced field at the officers’ mess in 4th battalion headquarters. When we first arrived at Benin they took statements from us and took it to Maiduguri. The original charge against us was for deserting but after our statements were taken they changed the charge to disobedient to particular order. They said we disobeyed the CO’s order. They seized our phones, we couldn’t communicate with our families for the 90 days we were kept in detention,” our source said.
After they were released on December 24, they were conveyed to their various units. The soldier said on getting to their units, a court martial was set up at about 11.30 p.m. where they were tried and dismissed. He said the next morning, they were evicted from the barrack with their families.
“It was dismissal without benefits. After 17 years in service. Even people that served for 30 years were dismissed without benefits. We had no legal representation.”
Army spokesperson, Olajide Laleye, a Brigadier General, could not be reached for comments on Thursday. Calls and messages to his telephone were not answered or returned.
The dismissal of the 203 soldiers followed a wave of court-martialling of other soldiers for mutiny and other offences.
On December 24, a military court-martial that sat in Abuja sentenced four soldiers to death by firing squad for alleged mutiny.
That judgment came just about a week after another batch of 54 soldiers were condemned to death for refusing to fight the deadly Boko Haram sect.
The 54 soldiers belonged to the 111 Special Forces battalion attached to the 7 division of the army in Maiduguri. They are to die by firing squad, the military court ruled.
The soldiers were accused of disobeying a direct order from superior officers to take part in an operation aimed at dislodging Boko Haram terrorists from Delwa, Bulabulin and Damboa in Borno State.
The soldiers said they refused to take part in the operation because the Army did not provide them with the required combat and support equipment needed for such operations.
Earlier, in September, 12 soldiers were sentenced to death for allegedly shooting at a car conveying their commanding officer, Ahmed Mohammed, a Major General.
The attack occurred May 14 at the army’s 7 Division, Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, headed at the time by Mr. Mohammed.
Others were also sentenced to life in jail for criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit murder.
The soldiers revolted after some of their colleagues were ambushed and killed by Boko Haram extremists, an attack they blamed their commander for.
Yet, more soldiers remain on trial for their conducts in the fight against the extremist sect, and face being sentenced to death.
On December 23, another batch of 118 soldiers were transported from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to face charges in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
It is not clear when the troops would be arraigned before the military court, but our sources said unlike their colleagues who were convicted December 17, the 118 soldiers are accused of offences less than mutiny.
Also, 22 top officers, including a brigadier general, are being held at the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos, preparatory to being arraigned for yet unclear offences.
They could not be arraigned on December 22 because the court was not properly constituted.
Their arraignment has now been scheduled for a date in January.
The convicted soldiers, apart from the four that were sentenced December 24, have been moved to Lagos to await appeal, pardon or execution.

The problem of this thread is the 'there is no true love without jealousy'. While this claim still remains unproven, I could be worried my partner is silent and it could scare me, not because I expect her to get jealous but that she could have something at the back of her mind. On my own part, i'd keep quiet. I hardly put up jealousy because I've seen it destroy friends and their relationships. I ask questions though when I need clarity but beyond that, nothing else.
Politics › Opinion: Why INEC May Flop In The 2014 Elections by Sanchez01(op):
NB: The essence of this article is not to create unrest but to mildly correct what I consider as errors the electoral body are already committing towards the next elections.

I had been away from Lagos since September and I was almost tempted to leave Osun State, having graduated in July and bored at home. I broke away to experience the lonesome, bachelor life I had lived since my second year at OAU.

The PVC was too pronounced that I felt staying back in Osun could disenfranchise me in the forth-coming elections. I however kept my cool, stayed behind and left at my proposed time but I somewhat came late as the collection of the PVC in my area had been moved to only God knows where, leaving me to search and ask around like I had just come to Lagos.

My fears were raised in Osun as some of my friends who registered in the 2011 elections were denied the PVC. They claimed they had misplaced it, and the representatives of INEC seemed to have a single rule; you won’t get the PVC if you don’t have your TVC. Those who were on OAU Campus on Sept-October can attest to this.

And as disturbing as it was, there were rumblings in Ile-Ife where I stayed and the cries where the same – most aged people were not graced the access to their Voter’s Card simply because of the fact that their PVC was nowhere to be found.
With the hullabaloo of the PVC in Osun, it was obvious that most eligible voters would likely be disenfranchised in 2015; something INEC must take the fall for should anomalies take place.

Having witnessed Osun’s, particularly Ife’s PVC issue, I came back home (to Lagos) about 4 weeks ago and I made enquiries from friends on how to get my card. My friends confirmed that they came around to the street before taking it to a nearby secondary school about a week after before taking everything to Ogudu, Ojota. I made a resolve to get it last week Tuesday and I went with a friend who was yet to collect his as well.

Luckily, we got it after several minute procedures but the story was almost like that of Ife – youths were there in their numbers, most of whom had misplaced their TVCs. It was obvious there was a glaring glitch in the process; I mean, most of us are not well detailed and careful in keeping things, but that is not to say that disenfranchisement should be the price for misplacing a ‘paper’ which is laminated for some and not for others.

To the main reason for putting up this post

While I went into the large room filled with the INEC equipment and staffs to get my PVC after being called, I noticed thousands of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC) littering the large room. Some were placed in small rectangular boxes of about 60cm in length, some were heavily bundled without boxes casing them while others occupied over 30 huge Ghana-must-go backs. Judging by the tons of PVCs therein, I would say there are over one hundred thousand or more voter’s cards one in that spacious room at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat at Ogudu, Ojota.
And as if that was not enough, upon collecting my PVC, my TVC was collected and thrown carelessly on the floor. Alongside mine, a few number of them littered the floor where the INEC officials used as the collection point of the PVC at the Secretariat and it had me worried. I kept wondering why they could not just collect them and put them in a bag at once upon collection, and then burn them up afterwards since they are of no more relevance.

I also kept wondering what would happen to the thousands of Permanent Voter’s Cards because as it stands, it is quite obvious that they will not be claimed by their rightful owners just because they have misplaced their Temporary Voter’s Cards.

Although the electoral body proffered a solution to those who had long misplaced their TVC – get that of a friend/colleague, neighbor, siblings or spouse who registered with you at the exact same place. However, as this may also be complicated, I’d suggest that the names and photographs of registered voters be pasted ward by ward so that most Lagosians and Nigerians will not be disenfranchised in the forth-coming election.

I tried getting some snapshots while I was at Ogudu but was quickly restrained by an official. Regardless, it is imperative that Nigerians must choose who they would want to represent them in the forth-coming elections and it would be better if INEC see to this objectively. A new Nigeria is our dream. Happy New Year in advance to everyone out there.

"They washed and joined the congregation as the lord commanded" which religion wash their body b4 joining congregation? Think nd save ur soul b4 its late. Moses was a muslim nd so also other prophets of God.
No, you're wrong. Unfortunately, Islam broke out from a religious practice that was at the time not given a specific name. The practice of Yahweh had long existed before the birth of the founding father of Islam - Ismael, who, was the son of Hagar, the maid of Abraham's only wife. He (Ishmael) and his mother were sent out after his mother put up a haughty spirit in the house of Abraham. Before Ismael was sent out, an angel of Yahweh blessed him and his mother before being sent out. I hope the excerpt below help you discover the truth.

Abraham's first born son by Hagar the Egyptian was Ishmael. It's in the Bible, the Torah, Genesis 16:15, RSV. “And Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.”

Abraham was given a special promise that the descendants of Ishmael would start and become a great nation. It's in the Bible, the Torah, Genesis 17:20, RSV. “As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly; he shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.”

His name (Ishmael) was given by God through the angel, and stands as a perpetual reminder of God's mercy. Ishmael means “God hears” - and understands, and will respond in your times of need. It's in the Bible, the Torah, Genesis 16:7-11, RSV. “The angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness the spring on the way to Shur. And he said, "Hagar, maid of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?" She said, "I am fleeing from my mistress Sarai." The angel of the Lord said to her, "Return to your mistress, and submit to her." The angel of the Lord also said to her, "I will so greatly multiply your descendants that they cannot be numbered for multitude." And the angel of the Lord said to her, "Behold, you are with child, and shall bear a son; you shall call his name Ishmael; because the Lord has given heed to your affliction.”

Again when Hagar and Ishmael were moving to Arabia the angel appeared to her. It's in the Bible, the Torah, Genesis 21:17-21, RSV. “And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, "What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast with your hand; for I will make him a great nation." Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. And God was with the lad, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. He lived in the wilderness of Paran; [northern Arabia] and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

Washing the hands and feet: As knives and forks were not used in the East, in Scripture times, in eating, it was necessary that the hand, which was thrust into the common dish, should be scrupulously clean; and again, as sandals were ineffectual against the dust and heat of the climate, washing the feet on entering a house was an act both of respect to the company and of refreshment to the traveller. The former of these usages was transformed by the Pharisees of the New Testament age into a matter of ritual observance, (Mark 7:3) and special rules were laid down as to the time and manner of its performance. Washing the feet did not rise to the dignity of a ritual observance except in connection with the services of the sanctuary. (Exodus 30:19,21) It held a high place, however, among the rites of hospitality. Immediately that a guest presented himself at the tent door it was usual to offer the necessary materials for washing the feet. (Genesis 18:4; 19:2; 24:32; 43:24; Judges 19:21) It was a yet more complimentary act, betokening equally humility and affection, if the host himself performed the office for his guest. (1 Samuel 25:41; Luke 7:38,44; John 13:5-14; 1 Timothy 5:10) Such a token of hospitality is still occasionally exhibited in the East. With that being registered, the essence of washing the hands and feet was as a result of the absence of the Holy Spirit, which was not pronounced in the Old Testament. After the Holy Spirit came upon the departure of Christ in the New Testament, Christ, who had stated that he had not come to abolish 'The Law' but to fulfill it, performed the last washing of hands and feet on His disciples; an indication which implied that Godliness is written on the heart (where the Holy Spirit dwells) and not in the washing of hands.

OP, I believe the both of you are the way you are because you rarely see each other in person. Moreso, your 'man' has a lot of growing up to do. Every sane guy must learn to control his spending power, and being with a lady should bring out potential wisdom to manage finances in a relationship, be it little or excess. It's quite obvious the two of you only talk when one needs something from the other, which is not supposed to be. Learn to talk about other things that could help your relationship and finally, do not count on him for anything if he doesn't want to support you. My spending power used to be aggressive, not until I knew certain things. Talk often and learn to correct him. It is normal that you help and counsel your man when he's below reasoning.
