Family / Re: Houston Woman Divorces Her Brain Dead Husband, Then Adopts Him by Sanchez01: 9:29pm On Apr 03
Most people don’t know what is at play here and they think the lady is an angel. The divorce means she might get to hang on to some properties of the man or what they both have. The adoption means she gets tax cut/refund for being a ‘parent’ and taking care of an invalid. And another twist; she most likely is the beneficiary of his life insurance since they were married. And being brain dead, he certainly can’t think of removing her from his life insurance.

The lady is smart. She divorced him but kept him close. If he is being taken care of by his family, they could influence an updated life insurance policy/beneficiary.

She can still remarry while taking care of her ex husband and still get to be his life insurance beneficiary.

Food / Erisco: Chioma Okoli Vs Eric Umeofia And The Streisand Effect by Sanchez01: 7:32am On Mar 29
In 2003, American singer and actress Barbra Streisand sued photographer Kenneth Adelman and Pictopia.com for US$50 million for violating privacy. The lawsuit sought to remove "Image 3850", an aerial photograph in which Streisand's mansion was visible, from the publicly available California Coastal Records Project of 12,000 California coastline photographs documenting coastal erosion and intended to influence government policymakers, of which the photograph of her residence was an overlooked and inconsequential tidbit of information. The lawsuit was dismissed, and Streisand was ordered to pay Adelman's $177,000 legal attorney fees.

"Image 3850" had been downloaded only six times before Streisand's lawsuit, two of which were by Streisand's attorneys. Public awareness of the case led to more than 420,000 people visiting the site the following month.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

I have carefully followed Chioma Okoli's unfortunate event since last year and lost interest at some point because I thought it was buried and everyone had moved on, but not until Eric Umeofia, the founder of Erisco Foods, went on different TV stations to recklessly brag like a typical airheaded Nigerian 'money miss road' whose only strength lies in using the instrument of State to harass common people. After his interviews, I soon found out that the police had bundled Chioma Okoli, a pregnant woman, from Lagos to Abuja, forced a written apology out of her, and then revisited her home to harass her family by cutting off electricity to their apartment and denying them access to their own generator set around Christmas. All of these make you wonder if Chioma Okoli had done something beyond leaving a review/her personal experience with a product she bought with her own money. I watched Eric Umeofia's interviews with shock, disgust, and disdain. I thought, "This man's business wouldn't survive if he tried this in the United States." How does a company with supposed "40+ years of business", "100 million+ customers," and "100+ range of products" not have a corporate communications arm to handle affairs of PR rather than allow its founder to run amok and make reckless statements that could destroy the reputation of a 40 years-long business, just because he believes an aggrieved customer was sent by his enemies to 'destroy' his sweat?

Nigerian business owners and their perception of reviews

If there is something over the years I noticed that business owners hate in Nigeria, it is the feedback from customers, particularly when it is not suitable or pleasant, and this is where they miss it. Since moving to the US, I have realized how businesses in America handle reviews. They can be detrimental to businesses and can easily win them new customers. I can't recall how many times I have dined at a restaurant, shopped at a store, or even purchased an item just by reading reviews cum experiences of other customers. Nigerians work in reverse when understanding the basics of running a business. A customer has a right to be pleased or displeased about a product they purchased, and a business owner has no power to determine how and where a customer should vent. The idea of "go and patronize another brand instead of destroying someone's business" is a crude way of saying, "you either buy a product with its flaws and swallow your opinion or go and patronize a better product rather than complain."

How Gino responded to a call out amid the Erisco saga

On March 9, 2024, a tweep on X by the username @iam_temmyy posted a video calling out Gino for a bad Gino tomato paste his FRIEND (not himself) bought. It was enough for Gino to come out and blame it on their detractors/enemies and possibly get Temi arrested since he isn't the direct consumer but a friend of the consumer. Gino's official account replied with an apology immediately and asked for details on the product. And How did Gino respond? With a carton of the same brand in the video, the user posted! It was enough to be a PR disaster for Gino but they did something differently.

Plutocracy or not, the customer is always king, whether as a first-time or returning customer, a concept most business owners need help understanding.

How global brands react to reviews/callouts on social media

Brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other soda brands have been called out a million times on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok and accused of their products containing more sugar than necessary. Several content creators have warned their audience to avoid some of these brands as they harm humans. Guess what? None of these brands have arrested or filed a lawsuit against these content creators because they understand the Streisand effect and how it can ruin their stock in less than 12 hours. So, what do they do if they can't address the situation? Ignore!

So, what did Chioma Okoli do wrong?

As far as being a customer, Chioma Okoli did absolutely nothing wrong! The problem was that she had an opinion concerning a product she bought with her money. More interestingly, her major offense is that she is a nobody in a country where plutocracy reigns and instruments of state can be used unjustly against anyone by those with a few million Naira to their name. Review has no standard tone. It can be mild, harsh, or filled with regrets, depending on the reviewer's state of mind when reviewing the product or their experience.

How the Streisand Effect is Ruining Erisco/Nagiko

Had Eric Umeofia caught a whiff of the restlessness and global negative attention he and his company would get due to Chioma Okoli's review, I am sure he would have either ignored her review or handled the entire situation differently. Regardless, the disastrous PR of the company has pointed to a host of disturbing discoveries about Erisco/Nagiko products:

1. Nagiko Tomato Mix contains Food Color E129, a synthetic red dye called Allura Red AC (E129), and sugar. Are these bad? The answer is not straightforward. Red dyes in foods could trigger inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and the sugar quantity...oh well.

2. Despite Nagiko Tomato Mix containing artificial agents such as red dye and sugar, all of Nagiko's products have "100% Natural" labels on the cans, making it entirely false. Nothing is "100% Natural" about a product with artificial red dye and sugar. It's a false advertising/labeling. In the US, any consumer can easily sue a brand with such big, bold product information.

In 2011, PepsiCo agreed to pay $5 million for mislabeling their Naked Juice products as "all-natural" when they contained synthetic ingredients. The lawsuit alleged that the products contained ingredients such as a fiber additive made by Archer Daniels Midland and genetically modified soy, which are not considered natural.

In 2015, Chipotle agreed to pay $6.5 million for allegedly mislabeling their food as "GMO-free," when some of their ingredients actually contained genetically modified organisms. It was discovered that some of the ingredients, such as the cooking oil and the dairy products used in their food, did contain genetically modified organisms, even though they had been labeled GMO-free.

PS: If Erisco were to operate in the US, it would have likely filed for bankruptcy because a class-action lawsuit would have been filed against the company for its "100 Natural" label.

3. Nagiko product lines don't have nutrition facts/tables, which is weird for "100% Natural" labeling. I had to look up competitors and found that they have nutrition facts on their packages and percentages of every ingredient used. Nagiko doesn't have this. Instead, Erisco only listed what is included in making these products. It's dubious and tells a negative story about NAFDAC.

4. The barrage of negative reviews left by users worldwide on Erisco's business page on Google is unbelievable and doing damage to the business.

************************

For a brand that is not exactly strong and popular in the Nigerian market, Eric Umeofia was more interested in forcefully covering up and silencing Chioma Okoli for having an opinion as a first-time customer. Still, his actions have done quite the opposite and gained his brand negative global attention. Mr. Umeofia quickly realized the power of social media. He desperately engaged a PR company to clean up his mess across their social media platforms. Still, the result has been underwhelming for all the wrong reasons. If Chioma Okoli's review/rant had been ignored on Facebook, Nigerians and netizens worldwide wouldn't have noticed the discrepancies in Erisco's products. People are no longer calling for a boycott of Erisco's product lines. Rather, genuine questions are being asked about how safe their products are because there are discrepancies and deliberate missing information on their packaging.

As a businessperson, you should consider changing your line of business if you don't appreciate feedback. You can't push questionable products out and boss people around about how to or not react to what they bought with their money. You can't beat a child and tell it not to cry.

Please advice me
My ex husband and I are divorced 2 years ago. He recently acquired an European citizenship, he also wants to extend the citizenship to our son. Though I thought it a good idea but I can't shake the feeling that he is trying to use that to take him away from me.
He told me our son will need to come over there to finish the process of his citizenship. But when I went to submit the "application" what I saw on it is different from what he told me. The paper read that I am consenting to my son to go and reunite with his father. Or is that the way they process it?
Please those that have gone through same should please come to my aid, this is my only child and I can't afford to lose my child this way.
This is a two-edged sword. And yes, you’re right for being paranoid because you are on your way to handing over full custody to your ex husband since you are continents apart.

I believe you need to have a conversation with him and possibly get a lawyer to draft an agreement that you are not giving him the full custody of your son and that he spends a certain period of time with you, possibly every summer until he is 18 when he can make his own decisions. The agreement is your guarantee that you can eat your cake and still have it; have your son get citizenship since he is still a minor and easier while you are still present and active in his life. If anything goes wrong or he stops responding/gives million excuses as to why your son can’t visit, you can make claims of kidnap to the authorities of the country he lives in and then present the agreement as evidence. Just get a reputable law firm to draft the agreement and you’re good.
Romance / Re: Broken Up With My Nigerian Boyfriend by Sanchez01: 11:46am On Jan 08
How he is treated by his wife is no business of yours. I am sure he would have divorced or put her away if he was tired of her. Divorce is MOSTLY EASY AND STRESS-FREE in Nigeria and women are not as protected as it is done in the West and the fact that he hasn’t done so means he still wants her as his wife.

The way you put up with him knowing he is married is the dream of most married Nigerian men abroad - fumble with another woman where they are while the woman is aware that they have a family back home and hoping a divorce would happen some day. It often NEVER happens and the reason is pretty simple; your system probably works and that means trouble for him. Getting married to you means he is setting himself up for problems when the love turn sour.

What you have done is gently and patiently played the role of a side chick. Perhaps the situation would have been different if the other woman is only a girlfriend. He might compensate you for the time spent, the investment and opportunities but staying with him, knowing he is married and hoping a divorce will happen is doing yourself a disservice.

If you’re to “die on the hill” of a Nigerian man, be sure it is one without entanglement. It’s safe to say you’ve been played all along. At this rate, you might do 10-15 years with him in the name of a “divorce will happen soon” or “it is only you I love and want to be with.”

Politics / Re: Allegations Of Tribalism Against Me & Nairaland by Sanchez01: 3:55pm On Dec 30, 2023
There are things better left unsaid. This thread shouldn’t have existed if I were Seun. Since it exists, we can’t pretend that tribalism started with so many oldies from the South East. Well over 10 years ago, every topic in the politics section, be it historical or News-like was turned on its head by some crazy bigots who have now fully moved to Twitter. I would innocently make points on threads with the intent to learn and educate and before you know it, the likes of Afam and a bunch SE media warlords corrupted almost every thread with their madness. The madness should have been nipped in the bud at the time but no, the moderators gave room to it to allow the plague fester to every thread and every heart.

And then Yoruba champions as well as other ethnic groups thought they had had enough and would respond to SE tribalists who weren’t used to getting aggressive rebuttals that they doled out to others.

The truth is that Nairaland is a harsh reality of the Nigerian society and the tribalism on here isn’t going any where. The average Nigerian doesn’t see issues in black and white. Rather, in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba and the bulk of users who flood the politics section are your typical, average Nigerians.

Unfortunately, tribalism isn’t the only problem plaguing Nairaland. Looking through the family/romance sections, the business/webmaster sections, etc., it tells a lot about the aggressive-type misogyny and misandry as well as aggressive frauds that have gone unchecked across the forum. Almost every part of Nairaland has its unique weakness. There are moderators across sections on the forum that haven’t been online since over a month! A month!!!

It’s so bad now that the most resourceful topics on Nairaland are those from way over five years ago. Every current thread is riddled with either tribalism, misandry, misogyny, bashing and fraud.

The challenges have been discovered and how to correct them and put the forum on the right track should be paramount. If moderators are not forthcoming or found wanting, they should be fired and more competent and efficient ones hired.

For resourcefulness that Nairaland was once known for, I’d rather turn to Quora and Reddit for that now. Nairaland isn’t a social media platform. It is a FORUM AND SHOULD be operated like one. The present crop of threads on the front page are purely informational, not worthy of being described as resourceful. It doesn’t make sense that Nairaland is being postured to be “better than Twitter” when it is nowhere near the level of resourcefulness of Quora and Reddit.

Family / Re: Married But Lonely by Sanchez01: 4:25pm On Dec 18, 2023
Greatmind653:
How do you handle loneliness in marriage?
There's no intention of cheating, but lonely.
Like a very deep space between you and your partner, due to the fact that he has a particular lifestyle (addiction) inflicting stress on everyone in the family that you don't like, but he has refused to change.
This has removed love, intim.acy and affection in the marriage, thereby making it look so empty. Like you both can stay months without touching each other.
How do you manage such home/relationship?

I understand there are root causes for these things. The best part here is that you know the root cause. Unfortunately, there is no escape mechanism for managing loneliness, particularly in marriage. Diverting attention to the kids, picking up a hobby or focusing on something you love won’t magically override the loneliness you feel. You have to talk to hubby, make him understand how you feel and why you feel the way you do. Remember, it’s an addiction involved here and it can be difficult to break off from.

In addition, you should include how you have been impacted by his addiction, where you are with it and your fears/concerns about worst case scenarios if he continues on this path. And since it’s an addiction, you should show concerns about how can help. Ideally, this isn’t up to you to do but since Nigerians aren’t big on therapy, you or those closest to him might be his therapists. Addictions don’t get shaken off easily, so it’s important to show you want to help him which in turn would help you get rid of the loneliness. It’s a win-win for both if it works.

If these suggestions fail, you might have to take the issue to people he respects or fears the most. The idea isn’t to make him look bad but rather, an attempt at saving your marriage. Often times, this is the last resort and it helps a lot.

If you feel you don’t want to go this route, then you might just sit it out entirely, watch him continue while you get tired and think of how to get yourself out of the marriage totally.

please can you share what Modern man should be doing for the wive to stay with him I'm curious to know the difference between modern man and the other type of man please
Not like the rules are written in stones. Modern men are just pretty much the opposite of what a traditional man is. The major thing worthy of note is consideration; seeing the woman you married as someone you're meant to love, not just to provide for and as a human and not as a trophy or prize you bought.

If you think about everything a traditional man represents, then the direct opposite is a modern man, particularly when it comes to how they see their wife, marriage, and family in general.

Lol! Stop with the assumptions. I’m married and living in the US. Our traditional mindset on marriages as Africans and Nigerians are pretty outdated. I know a couple currently having issues in their marriage because this bush guy married the wife early before they both came down here and still want to impose his bush behavior on her. She’s presently studying for nursing and already rebelling against her husband. Except the woman is a terrible person naturally, most cases of divorce concerning Nigerians in diaspora are mostly as a result of the men’s mindset.

As far as marriage is concerned, in Nigeria or in diaspora, no woman will take her modern, supportive husband for granted, except it’s village people. I know there are some demonic women who just want to destroy all their husband worked and labored for but you can’t possibly tell me every Nigerian woman who push for divorce is bad.

Ednut is the only person on point on this thread, at least, based on what I read on the first page. This thread is nothing but half truth and not the flex you all think it is.

If you have a traditional mindset as a man and you’re stuck in your ways, with no room to adapt, by all means DO NOT JAPA WITH YOUR WIFE. If you do, she’ll dump you like a bag of hot potatoes.

Bro, that part of your write up isn’t the flex you think it is. Emptying trash anywhere in the world is strenuous and should be a man’s responsibility. This isn’t about any toxic masculinity. The main reason why marriages fall apart after couples japa is because of this maid issue. Men in those positions don’t consider themselves fit for chores and have the notion that women should be the one in the kitchen. Unfortunately, maids charge an arm and a leg per hour which doesn’t make them ideal to most people even when they are overwhelmed.

Divorce is inevitable for any Nigerian man with a traditional mindset, particularly about chores and the home. I see and read them a lot and it isn’t hard to figure.

You start emptying the trash and making breakfast and washing dishes now as the man. Jobs that you used to hire maids to do for you in naija.

Who empties the trash in your home, your wife? So it emasculates a man if he cooks for his wife? They will soon leave you too with this weak male mindset.

Celebrities / Re: Cynthia Morgan Speaks About Her Relationship With Benin Prince by Sanchez01: 9:58pm On Nov 26, 2023
Madrina/Cynthia Morgan, ought to lift herself up and forge ahead. It is evident that her chapter in the Nigerian music industry has drawn to a close. Regrettably, she seems to be holding onto the perception of the name she once carried. Her recent presence on social media has been tumultuous. Even if there's a desire for the Crown Prince's attention despite past missteps, expressing it in such a manner could deter any man.

It's clear that Madrina is going through a challenging period. Life's complexities impact us all, and she is no exception. It might be in her best interest to take a step back, allowing herself some respite. Everyone deserves the space and time to navigate the ebbs and flows of life. In doing so, she can focus on a rejuvenation process and come back in a manner that reflects her true essence.

In the spirit of empathy, it is crucial for Madrina to recognize that people evolve, and so do their circumstances. Taking a break to rediscover her passions and strengths could pave the way for a meaningful comeback. Life's journey is filled with twists and turns, and the resilience to rise again is a testament to one's inner strength. I wish Madrina the fortitude to overcome her current challenges and emerge stronger on the other side. If anything, appearing pathetic is disgusting and not helping her cause.

Currently, the closest thing to a guaranteed way for Full Self-Driving to transfer to a new owner is directly from owner to owner through a private sale.

And this…

This means that a private sale is one of the best ways to return some value for Full Self-Driving when you sell your used Tesla, and one of three ways to purchase a pre-owned Tesla with FSD at a reduced cost.

You need an account to use a tesla. And some of the tesla features are tied to that account. The features will not transfer to a new owner.

Good luck to whoever makes the mistake of buying this.
How Nigerians sometimes input on topics way out of their depth with insane confidence is just unbelievable.

Across the world, Teslas are either bought from Tesla, dealerships of direct owners. A direct owner can sell their Tesla and transfer ownership of the vehicle using the app. The process to transfer ownership is simple and straightforward.

All features, including the FSD is transferred to a new owner when selling. If an owner chooses not to transfer the FSD during sale, then the value of the car drops dramatically.
