Family › Ugandan Maid Faces Fresh Charges by Sanchez01(op): 7:17pm On Dec 12, 2014
APA-Kampala (Uganda) A magistrate’s court
in Uganda has issued a fresh charge of assault against a housemaid who appeared in a video that went viral torturing a toddler.
Jolly Tumuhirwe aged 22 was on Friday paraded before Chief Magistrate Lillian Bucyana of the Buganda Road Court.

Magistrate Bucyana read to her the fresh charges of assault and occasioning bodily harm contrary to Section 236 of the Penal Code Act to which Tumuhirwe pleaded guilty. Earlier in the trial a charge of torture was brought against her to which she also pleaded guilty.

During mitigation, the State Prosecutor Lino Angunzo asked for the maximum sentence of five years for Tumuhirwe, arguing that she had tortured a defenceless child she had been employed to look after.

Tumuhirwe's lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi said he had had a chance to speak to his client and she had expressed remorse for her actions.

Rwakafuuzi said that not only did
Tumuhirwe deeply regret her conduct, she wanted an opportunity to ask for
forgiveness from the child's parents Eric and Angella Kamanzi.

Rwakafuuzi said that Tumuhirwe pleaded for a light sentence because she was repentant and would never commit such an act again.

The tortured child's parents were given a chance to address the court and their major question was why the maid treated their child that way.

The victim's father Eric Kamanzi asked the court to give the maid a maximum sentence of five years. The magistrate has now set Monday as the date for judgment.

According to Ugandan laws assault attracts a maximum sentence of five years.

A woman who cheats on the husband based on the OP's points has no ounce of dignity. Men can be pushy at times, but that is no justification to cheat. Instead, get a divorce, go seperate ways and part to meet no more.

Thank you sir.
You have inadvertently cemented my points for me.

1. The op said hello to all NL. He did not specify where he wanted opinions to come from.
2. I perfectly understood what he wrote , as well as where he was coming from. I did not need your help in that regards.
3. My post was not about me. I gave a straightforward opinion based on facts provided by the op.
4. You have no right tell me what words I use or not use. I have mental sovereignty. If you don't , well , thats not my problem.
5. The op does not need your help. Comprehension comprehension,.. and I doubt if you are in any position to help. The op is going through the normal course of walking the lonely path of the straight and narrow that I , and many other people, perhaps even you, walk.

At this point , it is irrelevant to me to what the op believes or not does not believe. It is about his innate qualities and where he goes with it.
It would be strenuous to have me argue because I believe I started it. I only meant you don't go beyond the subject matter within the thread, which you did. Like I stated, I started it and I'm sorry I took a swipe at you. Please, don't be offended smiley

Thanks Sanchez. You hit the nail on the head..But regarding tithing, Am i disobeying God if I channel my tithes and offerings to the needy (orphanages, refugees, etc) which is what i'm currently doing?
You're most welcome! cheesy And yes, you're disobeying God if you channel your tithes and offerings to the needy. Here are a few Scriptures to back it up:

Mark 14:7

New International Version
The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.

New Living Translation
You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But you will not always have me.

English Standard Version
For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me.

New American Standard Bible
"For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.

King James Bible
For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

NB: These versions all mean the same thing but note that we're admonished to give to the poor because they'll always be among us (which is what you're about to do or you've been doing. Still, it cannot be regarded as tithing, but giving.

Malachi 3:8-10 King James Version (KJV)

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

NB: Now I'm sure that the Scriptures above are a commandment made by God Himself. The font in red clearly answers your question: Tithes are meant to be brought into God's house and this we must do, not because the church wants it but that God commands it. Now you see that you may likely disobey if you think diverting them to helping the needy works better.
Romance › Re: Share Your Swimming Pool Experiences by Sanchez01(m): 6:02pm On Dec 09, 2014
A memorable experience I had was during my undergrad days, a certain print media took 50 students from across Nigerian universities and lodged us in an hotel at Lekki. The goal of the whole thing was to give us some sort of training and cause us to have fun.

Fast Forward: A couple of friends from others schools and myself decided to use the hotel pool since we were bored. Being a good swimmer, I wasted no time in jumping into the pool, while others who could swim also joined. Those who could not stayed at the shallow part of the pool with the aid of floaters. All of a sudden, a guy, a fellow student charged towards the pool and jumped straight into the pool from the deepest part! Unfortunately, the deepest part of the pool was actually 7ft!

He jumped in and failed to come back up and trust the female folks, the screamed like they saw a ghost. I was still in shock at why the girls shouted only for me to see someone being dragged out of the water by the hotel staffs! He could not swim and he thought once you're in the water, you stay afloat automatically. Luckily he survived and we all laughed hard after he started throwing up water. It was indeed funny!

Your approach was right. I'm a Christian and I must register my displeasure at the fact that most of these so-called Evangelists lack wisdom and the proper way of going about things. Some don't want to know your state at that period, which ought not to be. I travelled to another state within the country last week and an elderly woman beside me opened a polythene bag, brought out some tracts and told me 'take, share it' without courtesy! I felt disgusted and was angry. I was close to squeezing the tract and throwing it out of the window. Such is the case of insensitive Christians today.

Pls continue to seek ask questions, seek meanings, and champion social justice.

It is the w.h.ore, the deceiver that robs you of your inner chastity, your christhood, your mental sovereignty .

Stay the course.
@Plaetton, it is understandable to believe you are your own boss, God and the controller of your will, which is not the basis of the thread. The OP, I believe, is a Christian who seems to be finding some hard time with the multiple doctrines, attitudes and lifestyle of the church. I believe he needs our help and what you have suggested is in no wise considered as help, with due regards.

Christianity Etc › Re: Please Help This Nairalander's Religious' Dilemna. by Sanchez01(m): 5:35pm On Dec 09, 2014
The truth is this, ALMOST ALL Christians are better off worshipping God at home, save for the fact that we're encouraged to 'fellowship with one another'. You might be open minded, but do not let it affect your relationship with God, largely, people who claim to be open-minded are rebellious towards God without knowing they are. To maximize your blessings as a Christian, it is imperative you fellowship with other Christians; that way, your understanding and commitment towards God is raised. Please, kindly stick to a church, practice its doctrines and maximize your blessings.

On tithing, please note that it is a commandment (Mal 3:cool that must be obeyed to the letter. You are a Christian, I expect you to know this better sir.

As touching offerings, most churches today have come to take it as some sick competition, if you have, give. And if not, so be it. It all depends on one's faith. Even the Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, Pastor David Yongi Cho and Juanita Bynum of this world all have a place of 'fellowship' where they go to on Sundays. I understand most of our churches here are nothing to write home about but I can assure you that there are a few Living Churches. Kindly stop attending every church, it's one thing if you're invited. The effect of not having a permanent place of worship could cause you to see churches as mere places where some brain-formatted folks gather. It's not that way, though, and I hope you find a living church. Shalom! smiley

First and foremost, let's not include AY in the list of Nigeria's rib crackers. The guy is only an individual who has stage concepts and nothing more. For Bovi and BM, I'd say that they are still the same, just that you expect something way more than they gave. MCing is not the same as a typical comedian; that is why the likes of Alibaba, the king himself, is not funny. It's always difficult to keep up, particularly with demands as that of comedy. What most of them do now is to recycle old jokes. The only person who tries to do something different everytime is Basketmouth, and that's because he draws his stage jokes from live experiences and them exaggerate them a bit.

OP, you alone should know her kind of person; the best we can do is to give you that itty bitty suggestions we have. I must add that I got disgusted at the fact that you tried equating the gifts rather than the situation at hand. Her parents might be rich, yet tight-fisted. She might also not have so much with her at the time she bought those items. My suggestion is that you give her younger bro what you planned on giving him while you hold hers back and watch her reaction. If she's hell bent on you buying her a gift just because she bought you noodles, then keep the phone you meant to give her and get her something edible, say Pringles and Danish cookies. And if she isn't bothered at the fact that you got her nothing, then give the phone to her and in your quiet time together, learn to talk about things you love; shoes, belts, clothings and wrist watches... That way, she would know what to get you next time, if she is sensitive, that is.

Read yourself again, 'she EARNED herself a BLOW'. You claim you are not proud of it but defended yourself by saying there was no other means, which is untrue. There are many things you would have done, one of them would be to keep quiet and walk away. Ladies are capable of bringing out the devils in men but still, you would have been wonderful if you simply kept quiet and walked away before being borrowed by the devil. You, sir, are guilty and maybe she got what she wanted but it still doesn't take out the fact that you have showed that you cannot handle dicey situations with a lady yet.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Today’s great footballers are incomparably fitter than their predecessors. But their perfection goes beyond the physical. This is the best time in football’s history to be a star. The game has been restructured in their service.

They have been two of the world’s most outstanding footballers for several years, dominating the football scene with their array of talents, skills and fascinating panaches of finding their ways through opponents and deciding eventual results in big matches.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are considered the modern gods of a game played in every land on the planet. They are young. They are living the dream. They are still exploring their limitations. And because they are growing as performers, we do not yet know their place among the greats.

But in one aspect they are already up there. They transcend the league in which they play. Barely a match goes by in which they fail to pull off a trick that makes watching them a joy. But beyond that, they actually outscore the goal scorers on their teams. The most amazing feats they produce every season – they score goals, set new records and break them.

Regardless of their mesmerizing displays, fans all over the world have and still engage in what seems to be an eternal debate as to who is the better person among the two. There are several differences between the two world class players however; Messi is the quiet one, Ronaldo the showman. Messi stands chin-high to Ronaldo. He is a manikin to an Adonis, a Mini to a Maserati. More importantly, Messi has been considered to be a genius of the game while Ronaldo is a hard worker whose body allows for the physique of a modern day footballer.

The obsession for stats can blur the beauty of their game. Seeing Messi dart between the tackles or Ronaldo glide so swiftly and powerfully through them is preferable to counting the notches on their belts.

The statisticians do not even agree on which of all the tournaments they play — La Liga, the Champions League, the Spanish Cup, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup and so on — they should include in their charts.

Messi, now 27, has been at Barcelona since puberty. He has grown up in the style of the club, and he knew even before he grew into the first team exactly how, where and when Xavi Hernández would make the passes or Andrés Iniesta would run for the ball or make decoy runs. The maturing of Messi, from a 16-year-old debutant to something approaching the finished article, has been one consistent, upward spiral. At the time former coach, Pep Guardiola, a former captain of the team, became the coach, Messi moved from the wing to be the main forward.
He is free to move where instinct, skill and determination take him. He once played apprentice to Ronaldinho, and then he dovetailed with Samuel Eto’o, then for a season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to David Villa and now to Suarez.

But Ronaldo, 29, is Real Madrid’s main penalty-taker. He is also perhaps the world’s most accomplished striker of free kicks. His timing of kicking a static ball, his ability to impart swerve and spin as if by remote control, is better than David Beckham’s. Cristiano plays a more attacking role, most often either as a striker or as a winger, and he is able to play on either wing as well through the centre of the pitch, making him a versatile attacker.

Irrespective of the stats and the comparison between these two greats, it is certain that football has moved from an era where a star dominates a generation while another lies in wait. Although one could say Messi and Ronaldo are not the only best legs in the game, other football stars have been made to feel like weaklings whenever their name pops up.

In 2012, Ronaldo was announced ‘The world’s most complete footballer’ by the BBC and in 2014, he was announced ‘The world’s fittest footballer’ for going on a fifteen push-up clap. For modern day footballers, a body which functions like a machine is required to dominate the game, while Messi recently broke the UEFA all time goal record of the tournament. Ronaldo, as well as Messi smashed Raul's record to move closer than ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo. Footballers of his build, with high proportions of fast-twitch sprinter’s muscle fibres, tend to break down early. That happened to the 1990s stars Ronaldo (of Brazil) and Michael Owen. But through unceasing exercise and diet, Cristiano has encased himself in steel. After returning from a game abroad, according to him, he sometimes takes an ice bath at 5am. He is arrogant because he believes, correctly, that he made himself through hard work. Currently, Madrid is festooned with 19m-high posters of him in his underpants. It is not an advertising campaign that anyone ever contemplated for Maradona.

Messi and Ronaldo rarely get injured, save for lack of rest. They are equipped to produce genius twice weekly almost for ever. Ronaldo has been averaging more than a goal a game for nearly five years at Madrid, the highest ratio in Spanish football’s history. In 2012, Messi scored an unprecedented 91 goals.

The greatness of the duo seems automatic. Arsenal’s manager Arsène Wenger has said Messi is “like a PlayStation”, a sort of human computer game. Something has been lost in the process. Maradona offered the spectacle of the footballer’s struggle with the inner man. Messi offers only a perfectly professional genius, while Ronaldo has done the same.

Though a stiff rivalry grows between the pair, one could say that Ronaldo’s success is as a result of Messi’s entrance into the big stage. Ronaldo once admitted he hates losing and that everything is more like competition to him, “everybody around me know that I hate to lose, I don’t take it well. That is why I sometimes race with my girlfriend in the pool. I don’t like to lose”. The rivalry that grows between them has been the drive towards becoming super heroes of the modern day football. “Even before he signed for Real (Madrid), I knew he would be my rival” were Messi’s words when asked what he thinks of Ronaldo.

Judging both players based on the number of goals scored is merely an understatement. Messi has racked up four FIFA Ballon D’OR awards while Ronaldo lags behind with two adrift. Both players have won every available trophy they have ever come across except the World Cup. Ronaldo shows greater promises even as he ages and might end up closing the gap, if not surpass his arch rival in the quest to register his name on the sands of time.

At some point, UEFA President, Michel Platini joked that having both Messi and Ronaldo on the same side in a team would be regarded as cheat. Each and every season, the world’s most recognized football meeting, the el clasico, is made to look like Messi and Ronaldo’s show in which they are to outshine, outdo and tell the world who the true great is.

Though the eternal debate frenzies among fans of both players as to who is better, it can only be noted that witnessing two consistent super humans in Messi and Cristiano is not something that would be seen very often, not even in the future. Facts and figures will never replace the thrill of seeing Messi or Ronaldo do the unexpected. We should use the word sparingly, but it’s called genius.
