Obviously, I do not need to explain anything to anyone in a purely personal matter but a few points are worthy of note:

1. The lady in question is 18 and therefore legally of age to marry under all laws and certainly under Muslim law.

2. She is proceeding for her undergraduate education in the UK in January. She had an A in computer science in her O levels and plans to get a degree in computer science.

3. each and everyone of my wives is a university graduate and some have worked and then stopped and in each case the choice was purely theirs.

4. It is a tradition in Kano that emirs and princes in choosing wives consider issues beyond the individual. The family is in every sense a social unit. My predecessor was married to princesses from Ilorin, Katsina and Sokoto.

5. The relationship between the late Lamido of Adamawa Aliyu Musdafa the father of the current Lamido is well known. Lamido Aliyu was the first Emir turbaned after Emir Sanusi I and they remained close until Sanusi's death.

6. My own relationship with the current Lamido dates back to 1981 when he was Ciroma and commissioner for works. By the way the Lamido and I are not illiterates we know what we are doing and he does have a PhD in Engineering.

7. My own mother was married in Adamawa and
lived there for more than two decades and I have eight younger brothers and sisters from there.

8. it is therefore natural that if I choose to marry from another kingdom Adamawa would be the first choice for me and I am extremely happy to strengthen these long historical bonds.

9. The young lady in question gave her free consent and even after the contract the wedding will not happen for a few years. By then she may be 21. If she freely consents to this I do not know on what moral grounds anyone has a grouse. She is an adult, she gave her consent, her education is not being in anyway interrupted.

10. The real issue is that people do not accept cultural difference. And you can see it in the approach to these issues. I am supposed to be urbane and western educated. Yes but i am not European. I am a northern Nigerian Fulani Muslim brought up in a setting exactly like the one my children are being brought up in.

If you read this and it improves your understanding of this issue that is fine. If it does not just remember it isnot your life, it is not your daughter and you are not my wife therefore it is not your business.

I obviously cannot stoop to the level of responding publicly to these kinds of articles. I have always been an advocate of girls marrying after maturing. I personally like the minimum age of 18 even though i understand those who say 16 is fine and indeed this is the law in most so called @advanced@ countries. Is this something that I expect a European or western trained or feminist mind to appreciate or endorse? Not at all. But has any american been bothered about my views on men marrying men or women marrying women which frankly I find primitive and bestial? No and my views do not matter. These are cultural issues.

Even in Nigeria I have heard all this stuff as in Pius article about "north" and northerners. Again it is a failure to respect difference. There are parts if this country where parents expect their daughters to live with their boyfriends for years and actually get pregnant before they marry. It has become culture. We do not have that in the north and if your daughter gets pregnant before marriage she brings nothing but shame to the name. But we do not issue condemnations. We agree that this is how they choose to live. And i can give many other examples.

When people use the term libido they do themselves injustice. First of all it shows how they view women and marriage. Women are nothing but the object of sexual desire. Marriage is nothing but sexual gratification. Well I am sorry but in my tradition it is not. Beauty and attraction rank third after religion and lineage in the choice of a wife. They see an 18 year old young lady. I see a princess of noble birth whose mother is also a princess, and who has been brought up in a good Muslim home. This is the kind of woman that is prepared for hiving birth to princes and bringing them up for the role expected of them in society.

Marriage is both social and political. Expanding the links of Kano which have already been established by my predecessors through
intermarriage with Katsina, sokoto, Ilorin, Katagum, Ningi, Bauchi etc to Adamawa is an important and significant step and this is obvious to anyone with a sense of how royal families work and Ibn Khaldun's sociological concept of Asabiyyah. When the emir of Kano marries it has to be something beyond what he personally desires to what is appropriate for that position and the expectations of the people he represents. You don't just pick up any girl on the street. And by the way for those who shout libido sex is cheap and available everywhere in all shapes and sizes and all colours if that is what they want. And all ages too. Marriage is a very different proposition. The mother of your children has to be something other than, or at least much more than a mere object of sexual fantasy. But if you do not know that you need to buy yourself a brain.

I have daughters. And they know they can only marry from certain backgrounds. I always prefer family. When my daughter wanted to marry Mouftah baba Ahmed's son and she asked me, knowing my views on family, i told her Mouftah is family. And this is not about me and Mouftah or me an Hakeem or Nafiu. No. It goes back to Baba Ahmed and Emirs Sanusi and Bayero. And the same rule applies to my sons. And it applied to me as well.

It is I am sure very strange that I should even bother to comment on this. But it would be hypocritical for me to just keep quiet so long as these things are being posted and commented upon explicitly or in a snide manner.
There was no secrecy in the marriage Fatiha. The date was fixed and it was to be done in the central mosque after Friday prayers. The day before we had a tragedy in Saudi Arabia and decided the Fatiha must be very low key as a mark of respect for the dead. All traditional rulers in Adamawa were there, as were governors and commissioners, members of my own emirate council and Adamawa people. There is nothing here to hide or be apologetic about.

The emirs of Adamawa have shown love to my parents and grandparents and it is a sign of my appreciation of their love that i marry their daughter. This is the highest statement of friendship and loyalty on both sides.

This is an old story. it happens five years back.

The Department of Ste Services, DSS, may have taken over the job of monitoring downstream petroleum distribution and marketing, as part of the President Muhamadu Buhari’s measures to stem the high level of corruption in subsidy claims. Consequently, retail outlets found selling any petroleum product above the prescribed government price will be immediately shut down, while any depot selling above the ex-depot price will have to forfeit the subsidy claims on the cargo that brought in the product. The move followed the apparent inability of the industry regulators, the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, and the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, whose officials were apparently overwhelmed by the supply shortages to check sharp practices and market excesses among the operators. File: Seized fuel trucks Consequently, the DPR has scheduled another impromptu closed door meeting with marketers and other industry stakeholders today (Wednesday) at its Headquarters in Lagos, to update them on the new development. Confirming the development yesterday, a top industry source who also attended the meeting told Vanguard in a telephone interview that the decision was made known to stakeholders at a closed door meeting which held in Abuja on Monday. The source, who spoke in confidence said: “DSS will lead the operations (monitoring), and marketers were also asked to monitor each other and to report any sharp practices. “Government decided that enough was enough and will no longer condone any sharp practices in the system.” The source, disclosed that the meeting was at the instance of the Federal Government, and had in attendance the representatives of the DSS, DPR, PPPRA, Major and independent marketers, depot operators and a host of other industry operators. The source added that attendants sat for long hours deliberating on the best way to arrest the unofficial price hike of petroleum products in the market, occasioned by supply shortages following the inability of the government to pay markets outstanding subsidy claims of over N200billion. Sudden hike in price The source was responding to Vanguard’s enquiries on the cause of the sudden unofficial hike of both the pump price and ex-depot price of premium motor spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol and kerosene, and the helplessness of the industry regulators to arrest the situation. Since the supply shortages set in some months ago, marketers and depot operators took the initiative to hike pump and ex-depot prices to reap enormous profit while waiting for government to pay off their outstanding claims. As a result, practically every retail outlet sold petrol at above the prescribed N87/Litre, to peg price at between N100 and N150/Litre depending on the outlet and location. Similarly, rather than the prescribed N81/litre ex- depot price, marketers accused the depot operators of selling at N96/litre instead, which they claimed forced them to also hike pump price. He said: “Such practices will no longer be condoned especially with the involvement of the DSS, who will use their intelligence network to get to the root of the matter. “The meeting decided that all marketers must sell at the regulated price of N87/litre of petrol. And anyone found to be selling above this, the DSS will track the outlet to the depot where the product was lifted. “If it was discovered that the pump price increase is as a result of hike in ex-depot price, then both the outlet and the depot will be sanctioned. “Originally, it was agreed that both the outlet and the depot will be shut down, but after considering the situation, if was agreed that the depot will not be shut down in order not to exacerbate the supply situation. “However, the depot operator will be made to forfeit his subsidy claims on that cargo, as it will be assumed that he has reimbursed himself through the ex-depot price hike.” “We are meeting with DPR again tomorrow (today) on the same matter for them to tell everybody what is happening and the need for all to ensure compliance,” the source added. DPR meets with stakeholders Expressing shock at the takeover of parts of its functions by the DSS, a top management official of the DPR confirmed the upcoming meeting with stakeholders in Lagos today. The official, who also spoke in confidence in a telephone interview told Vanguard: “The Downstream Unit only informed us about the meeting holding tomorrow at about 4p.m. today.” He expressed shock that the Unit did not give them full disclosures on the reasons for the impromptu meeting saying: “It is sad that everybody now do territorial claim when the whole roof is caving in. if there are new developments we should know firsthand and not from a third party.” Agreeing that the DPR was overwhelmed by the sharp practices in the industry, he asked: “How can we effectively monitor a situation where the marketer shows us technical proof about the depots selling above the ex-depot price, and the depot operators in turn show prove at selling under the regulated price? “We heard their accusations back and forth, and decided to hold an impromptu meeting with them in Lagos a few weeks ago, which was also reported by your paper. Since it was an open meeting, we expected the parties to openly make their allegations. But nobody did. So how can we hold anybody responsible?” He, however said that the involvement of the DSS was a welcome development as long as it will bring sanity to the system, seeing that DPR lacked the capacity to fully monitor downstream operations.

Dear Systems Analyst,

I am desperate for some help! I recently upgraded my program from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 and found that the new program began unexpected Child Processing and also took up a lot of space and valuable resources.

This wasn't mentioned in the product brochure. In addition Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during systems initialization and then it monitors all other system activities.

Applications such as "Boys' Night out 2.5" and "Golf 5.3" no longer run, and crashes the system whenever selected. Attempting to operate selected "Soccer 6.3" always fails and "Shopping 7.1" runs instead. I cannot seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background whilst attempting to run any of my favorite applications. Be it online or offline.

I am thinking of going back to "Girlfriend 7.0", but uninstall doesn't work on this program. Can you please help?

Dear Customer,

This is a very common problem resulting from a basic misunderstanding of the functions of the Wife 1.0 program. Many customers upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 thinking that Wife 1.0 is merely a UTILITY AND ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM. Actually, Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM designed by its Creator to run everything on your current platform.

You are unlikely to be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0, as Wife 1.0 was not designed to do this and it is impossible to uninstall, delete or purge the program files from the System once it is installed.

Some people have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but have ended up with even more problems. (See manual under Alimony/Child Support and Solicitors' Fees).

Having Wife 1.0 installed, I recommend you keep it Installed and deal with the difficulties as best as you can. When any faults or problems occur, whatever you think has caused them, you must run the.........

C:\ APOLOGIZE\ FORGIVE ME.EXE Program and avoid attempting to use the *Esc-Key for it will freeze the entire system.

It may be necessary to run C:\ APOLOGIZE\ FORGIVE ME.EXE a number of times, and eventually hope that the operating system will return to normal.

Wife 1.0, although a very high maintenance programme, can be very rewarding.

To get the most out of it, consider buying additional Software such as "Flowers 2.0" and "Chocolates 5.0" or "HUGS\ KISSES 600.0" or "TENDERNESS\ UNDERSTANDING 1000.0" or even Eating Out Without the Kids 7.2.1" (if Child processing has already started).

DO NOT under any circumstances install "Secretary 2.1" (Short Skirt Version) or "One Nightstand 3.2" (Any Mood Version), as this is not a supported Application for Wife 1.0 and the system will almost certainly CRASH.

The biggest problem in NASS is
not the salaries or allowances. It is a very big item in the NASS budget called overheads. What they do is pack that item in the appropriation bill and then " collapse" it according to a pre-agreed formula. A certain percentage is shared among the leadership. Another portion is
given to the management to
cover genuine overheads. The
rest is shared among members. I believe early in Obasanjo's term the overhead budget of NASS was like N10 billion. By 2011, when I raised an alarm, it was N126 billion and 25% of the entire overhead budget of the
Federal Government. When I
drew attention of the country to this, many people did not
understand why NASS was
angry. It is because, they were
sharing the money that was not spent on NASS overheads, and they have a perfect system now for "retiring" it. There is an entire structure within NASS whose job
is preparing receipts vouchers
etc to cover this item. If ever
there was a proper investigation,
people can go to jail for this.
When I was suspended, the
Senate leadership which is
supposed to protect the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), did not lift a finger because, I had done this to them earlier. The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Ahmed
Muhammed Makarfi, who was
investigating my missing $20
billion (US Dollars) allegation, was the same Chairman under who this happened and one of those who brought me for a public hearing and made me swear by the Qur'an (as in a Court of Law), and tried to get me to recant. An old routine of politicians, when caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Everything is coming
out now, and people forget what was said about my revelations at that time. There will be more and more. Nigerians have seen nothing yet. Take my word.
Finally, the good thing in all this is what I said in February 2014. You can suspend a man Mr. President Goodluck Jonathan. You can never suspend the truth.
