@ phema..I noticed that you seem to have a lot of information on birthing in different cities before the wipeout. I started on this thread after the tsunami, so I am wondering if you have hospital information on new York/New jersey that got lost in the wipe out. Actually just got off the phone with the hospital and the cost for CS was $3900, but couldn't confirm with the dr if their dr fee cost is the same for CS. Would try again tomorrow

For people that still want to do Arizona; I got a fairly good deal in Tucson. For those who may not know; Tucson is a city in Arizona, about 2hrs-2hrs30mins drive from Phoenix. Good thing is, you can get your baby's passport easily (within 24-48hrs) cos they have a regional office.
The whether down there is good too. The few hotels I checked weren't so pricey.

I think Dr Fagbohun is about $5770 for normal delivery and $7,280 for Caesarian .

bloggerina: For the people asking about airline travel restrictions for preggers, it is always advisable to travel latest by 34weeks. That's sound medical advise o. Some doctors will even insist that they won't certify you as fit to fly after that. So why do you want to push yourself to the medical limits and endanger your life and that of the baby? I flew BA at 34+2 and they were already frowning. I was still within their limit so they couldn't turn me back. They only took my letter upstairs for their manager to approve while I waited at the counter. The truth is that from 34weeks, anything can happen! So if you are flying after that, pls note that the risk is all on you. You can't eat your cake and have it you know, having a baby in the US will cost you more than money. Its a sacrifice of time too.

I will advise that you book your ticket for 34 weeks max. Get to the US in good time, continue your antenatal care and wait for you baby to come. So that you won't be stranded, let you return date be at least 6weeks after EDD so you would have done your 6-week postnatal doctor's appointment, baby's documents all set & mummy relatively recovered.

Also, wen buying your ticket, dont just buy the cheapest ticket you can find. Consider everyth - flight time, connection, infant provisions (bassinet, baggage allowance, infant fare) and make an intelligent choice of airline. You are in a delicate state at departure (pregnancy) and arrival (travelling with an infant) so don't stress/stretch yourself more than you can tolerate physically & emotionally. If you have to pay a little extra in ticket price for some additional airline comfort then it is worth it. You can afford to pay thousands of dollars in US so don't neglect your own personal journey because you are trying to "cut costs".
Pennywise is sometimes equal to pound-foolish.

Read the airline travel restrictions carefully. They mean what they say on their websites. If the policy is 34 weeks and you are 34+1, don't bother. Move to another airline that accomodates your pregnancy date. If you think you can lie & do "gbologbo" fitness to fly, you will be shocked that they will whip out a tape and measure your fundal height. Dat one no dey lie. You are already payong so much, don't let anyone embarass you at the airport pls. Respect yasef and fly wisely.

Finally, pls note that direct flights are best avoided when preggy. You will be more comfortable since its a direct flight, as in, no connection but they will be uncomfortable with you @ POE because the flight is coming staright from naija and has automatically aroused CBP suspicion, they know there will surely be preggers on dat flight.

Just my little token of advise.

We applied for both my mum and mother-in-law and they both got their visas. One had her interview in abuja the other in lagos. We gave them copies of our visa pages, letter of sponsor and bank statements. They didn't ask them much questions or ask for any documents.

I wish I could post a POE story, but I developed severe complications on the day I was to leave for US. I am sure my friend @dinawe who we were supposed to travel together must have been confounded by my disappearance at the airport.
I started bleeding a few hours to my flight, and was rushed to a hosp. I had lost so much blood so they had to carry out an emergency surgery to save my life.
My babies were born at 27 weeks and are currently in an incubator. I am in recovery as well.
In all things I can only give thanks to God, things could have been much worse if I had gotten on that flight.
@dinawe, please reach out to me when you arrive phoenix. This is why I didn't show up for our flight, but I and the babies are safe and sound.

Ma'am just thank God for everything. The most important thing is that you are doing fine and the babies are well. I know it might not be as easy as said but be thankful

@ chuyom, there are a number of affordable hospital in Houston, if you take time to read this thread from page one you would find a wealth of information that goes beyond just affordable hospital to tips on POE, processing baby's documentation after birth, accommodation etc.
but to respond to your enquiry: jaymom just posted the she used oakbend medical center and the summation of all her fee is about $5,770, there are other West Houston medical center, Mesthodist hospital and a number of others

Hello, this quotation of $3,340 from Dr. La does not include the hospital fee (WHMC), it is the doctor's fee only. The hospital fee is $2,500 for self pay patients (normal delivery) and $4,000 for C-section. Hope this helps.
Dr la is the most expensive dr in whmc. Go to their website and contact other doctors with admission privileges at the hospital. The others average $2,000 to $2,500 for what dr la charges $4,000

There are other hospitals/ drs in Houston you can also consider like oakbend, Methodist, etc

For those coming to Houston, I registered with Methodist Hospital. Their hospital bill is $2538 for womanly delivery and $3780 for CS. Epidural is an additional $1500 which is optional. And I chose Dr. Le whose bill is $1500 for delivery and prenatal visits which include ultrasound scans and prenatal vitamins. The only thing not included in this package is tests which are not compulsory esp if you have done them in Nigeria. This is a fair deal & my first visit yesterday was gd. Don't 4get to come with your medical

I was told I will do only one test, it'll cost $10 and it's compulsory cos I wanna hve a womanly delivery & they need to b sure I don't hve any infection dat can affect d baby during birth. All my test results from my hospital in Naija was accepted. The Dr's name is Dr. Duc Le. He accepts patients till 36weeks.

They usually work between 08.30 am and 5.30 pm so you can schedule your calls. I think the best time to call is around 3 pm Niger

She left at 28 weeks got there and was able to negotiate with them. She paid her cash upfront didn't use epidural, had normal delivery without complications. She said she continually kept negotiating. She's away right now but I would contact her for detailed info.

@lipsyred your best bet would be to send a letter to the embassy informing them on your intent to give birth in the US. get their standard reply then @ POE you tell them coming to have your baby using the letter as your reference, countless mums have done that here and have been successful. By God's grace yours would be one of those. My advise would be to go through the thread all over again ( yea it might be hectic but trust me when I say it would be worth it).. My two cent

Each time I have applied to the Uk, I have always used hotel despite the fact that I have loads of relatives in the Uk and I have been successful. I would suggest strongly that you used hotel.
