Yeah, there's also a maximum household income cap. So if your combined income is high, you don't get it. One has to confirm that it's not public funds too especially since the Council are kinda controlling and allocating the scheme

Yea, We decided to go with just one person to apply as the lower earner of us is almost at income cap. The developer/broker would smooth the case with the council to allow acceptance from only one of us. Its not council funds, it like help to buy. Also you apply same % discount you were given when selling. So if the value of your property increases from 250k from your time of purchase to 350k when you want to sell, you apply 30%(or whatever discount you got) to the 350k. There have been cases where the price of the property increase so much that the income potential of proposed buyer was so high, therefore reduced the size of potential buyers to a small pool, the council gave the sell authorization to sell in the open market.

Oh yea.. and a downside is that you can only rent the property for a total of 2 years through out your ownership. This has gotten us think twice about this scheme, part of the motivation was eventually using this an investment property when we upgrade. We mooooove

My own collection date on the slip is the first week of May and I am in the process of traveling in the last week of April,

1. Please is it exactly the date on the slip that one will receive it on the post or one can receive it before then
2. Like you have said can I go there if is nearing my travel date to go and check if I can receive the passport
3. If I want to go what are the things I need to take along with me and how will I be able to get inside of the embassy from the man that is always outside and what can I tell him to let me in.

Please your help will really be appreciated. I am in a dilemma and I urgently need your assistance.

I received mine 2 days to the date on the slip. I have no experience with going to the HC after capture, hence can not advice.

Yes dependant can apply for global talent visa, although the endorsing body Tech Nation is windingup operations at the end of this month. Pretty sure a new body would be announced soon.

There is a date your passport would be delivered to you, its on that slip they asked you to take a picture of before you left the HC. its usually around 1-2 months after your biometrics. You should get your passport around that date. No harm trying to see if you can get it earlier though.

A friend's cousin is here as a student. Apparently he's been struggling with money. His wife just arrived with their child...and another one about to make an entrance. My friend was She had been looking forward to wifey arriving to support the cousin who she's been having to help financially.

I have been looking into the First home scheme. Its supposedly a scheme started in June 2021 strictly for first time buyers where the buyer gets 30% - 50% discount on the cost of the property. But it not as much known as because of the HTB scheme was more appealing. There exists a caveat though, you can only sell to a first time buyer and would have to apply same discount as you were given. Looking at the possibility of getting an broker to get more clarity and possible options.

I've spent 4 months in the country and my TransUnion credit score is still in the mid-500's.

My records are in the electoral register, have got 3 bank accounts that I run transactions through frequently.

My wife landed long before me and I recently got added to the tenancy agreement. I've tried to apply for the AmEx credit card advertised by @Solumtoya and my request got declined (I'm sure because of my low credit score). I'm using a pay-as-you go mobile line (not contract).

What else can I do to boost my credit score? Or at least how can I secure a credit card?

An aside, I tried to sign-up for Rebtel to be able to call home cheaply, but couldn't because they said they don't support EE lines. Please do you know any other network that I could sign on a contract with my low score?

@Tinyemeka Dont worry about your Transunion credit score, building credit is a cumulative process. Even after 2 years+ here my transunion score is still at 589 but my experian score is 957. I made sure got a contract line, converted my pay as you go to three contract, got a provisional license and registered to vote. Did all these because as at the time I was living in a flatshare so didnt have any other bills to my name. I also was reporting my rent payment through credit ladder. I applied a post office creditcard(capital one) and got approved for £500 only, after 5 month I applied for Amex and got approved for £15,000. My advise would be not to apply for another credit card yet. Make sure you do other neccesary thing to get your name into the system then apply again after sometime, at least a month or two after.

They don't have to come in 6 months before, They just need to come in country before you apply for your PSW (i.e before expiry of your brp) else they cant get on it(PSW). If they are coming pretty close to your student expiry, they wouldn't pay for IHS, but that might mean they would pay out of pocket of they have to access medical services. Also you can always contact your school immigration department with enquiries, most students don't really use their services but its included in the tuition paid.

You will get answers for and against it. It will be ultimately upto you which method would prefer. I know several people that have adopted method and eventually gotten sponsorship in same organisation between 4-8 months after building relationships and showing their skill/experience. Sometimes its easier to influence sponsorship from within the organisation, you will know the right stakeholder to speak with. And if it does work out, you have gained valuable Uk experience that would make it easier to get sponsorship experience in other placed. If one doent have time constraint with regards to brp expiry, I dont think this path is a bad way to walk.

I just renewed my pikins passports and I paid using my card and I didnt renew my own passport as well (I've a 10 years as opposed to 5 for them).
My madam took them down to London from Edinburgh, so I wasnt there. All went through OK.

If you are switching to skilled work visa before expiration of your studies you will need to show proof of english. If you had completed your degree from a uk university then this would have served as adequate proof of knowledge of english(just show your certificate.

The choice of Ecctis or Ielts is ultimately up to you. which ever one goes. You actually do not have to do Ielts, you can do the alternative Pearson test, it is supposedly easier and has more test availability dates, you can get test dates as soon as monday .

Has anyone renewed Nigerian international passport for just their kid. I renewed my passport last year but now I want to renew for only my child but am a bit confused as the instruction says to use card for some else, one needs to register card. I not seeing an option to register my credit card. There is also a note that states that to qualify to use card payment for family, cardholder must also be an applicant which is not my case . US to me is a much better option than UK (money making, ease of hitting good pay etc for most fields)

UK does not even know how to go about the student visa thing and appear unbalanced or confused as of this moment.

Best for me would be to complete your schooling and then move to the US too. He can visit before 180 days lapses (assuming its at a stretch and not total)

The problem with this advise is that the US doesnt really clear path for transitioning from student path to permanent residency. I know people who have kept hopping from one to course to another after post study work I am talking between 7 to 8 years. If you take into consideration the H1B visa backlog, you will realise that for moving to do US, One will have to do loads and loads of research on how best to stay on long term.

People learn differently so for some people when the pay for bootcamps, they learn better are able to practice and bag jobs. But the thing is you can actually make the transition your self by studying your self. Youtube is one of the most underated resources that most people are sleep on. Say for example if a bank teller want to transition to business analysis. You can search youtube for videos that give an overview on business analysis. Then then there are lots of reseource that go even deeper into it. If you discipline and spend your time. what you get would be an equivalent of 2 or 3 bootcamps. Simplilearn is one youtube channel that has several great materials on this and other areas. After understanding the landscape, you can go a step further and search for virtual internships to garner practical experience. Forage is on good resource for virtual internship and it take less than 5 mins to register. You get to work on live projects from fortune 500 companies(Deloitte, GE, TATA, KPMG) and can even reference this on you resume. The most important thing is get the experience and skillset. And you can do this without paying a penny by just investing time, internet connection and research, research research!!! From your room you can get experience. Especially if one is not an Omo babalowo.

For interviews, there are lots of materials youtube that can guide you in answering questions in your subject area especially using the STAR method. Record your self during interviews so you can know how well you perform. Take note of the questions you were asked, and research after the interview how to answer optimally. You can even use CHatgpt to get good answers and relate it to your experience. Searching for jobs is a job on its own. With grit and perserverance you will get what you looking for.

Check the date on the confirmation form(the one they asked you to take a picture of). You usually would get the passport 1 week after that date sometimes less. Mine came exactly one week after.
