The simple truth is that this announcement within our law amounted to a legislation or law
THAT IS BEYOND HIS POWERS. He cannot make laws
The law is that the name of the University is "University of Lagos".
The president announced a change of name . He did not announce a Bill
Did he not cancel a convocation ceremony insisting that certificates carry the new name?

The students went to court and got an order stopping him because hs announcement was unlawful

AFTER the case was in court he then went to the Senate which was funny



Who was he to consult ? Consultation can be direct The National Assembly, or indirect via public hearing of the National Assembly The students, alumni and Governing council

How ? by sending a Bill. Sending a Bill is a PUBLIC activity.

He did not do that and the rest is history

Reno Omokri has trolled President Buhari after he called Super Eagles players ahead of their match against Tunisia later this evening.



On Sunday morning, President Buhari called the players and charged them to continue making Nigerians proud.



Reacting via his Instagram page, Reno wrote;

''Oh oh! Why did NFF allow Buhari speak with the Super Eagles players now! What is wrong with NFF?

He did not consult anyone publicly before making the announcement

There is no where in the constitution the law says the president must consult publicly before making announcements....Who was he to consult with? Bourdillon? You people hated Jonathan because of dirty politics and now every one is paying for it

The simple reality is that students prefer their certificates to state University of Lagos rather than MAULAG.

Just admit you are wrong. The President has no such power and the students were right to reject an autocratic and ill conceived change

The only con about the name change was the brand value , UNILAG had built it's acronym into a brand over the years and changing the name would erode all that gain but aside that the rest complain was nothing but dirty politics

Geoduck Jonathan did not have the authority to do that and so if anyone was guilty of politics he was.
Many of us do not believe that Universities should be named after individuals at all and of course there are those who have different opinions. But those who really appreciate University cultures appreciate this simple fact.

If such an idea was being contemplated then it should have been done following due process. To just wake up one day and make such an announcement in public embarrassed the University stakeholder and set a very bad precedent if not unchallenged.
Such a thing does not have to be a Top Down decision as we had during the military governments. In a democracy you have to consult people before taking decisions.
