The NEWS Posted in National NewsPolitics ‘Mama Oshiomhole’ dragged into son’s feud with Obaseki Hajia Aishetu and Obaseki at the wedding of Oshiomhole in 2015 Hajiya Aishetu Oshiomhole, the mother of the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has been dragged into the increasingly bitter feud between her son, Adams Oshiomhole and his successor as governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki. As disclosed by Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Media and Communications, Hajiya Aishetu, popularly known as ‘Mama Oshiomhole,’ rejected gift items sent to Comrade Oshiomhole through her on Tuesday evening. “The messengers said they met the mother of the former governor who rejected the items, stating that her son would not accept the gifts,” Osagie said in a statement on Wednesday. Osagie said the rejected gifts were conventional Christmas presents reserved for former governors of the state. He said that messengers from the state government were dispatched to deliver the gifts on Christmas eve. “The gift items meant for Comrade Oshiomhole include four cows and ten bags of rice”. He said the distribution of Christmas gifts was an annual ritual by the state government which serves as an expression of love, further strengthening the ties between the government and the people. He said the gifts were distributed to other government functionaries, political appointees, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and heads of institutions of higher learning, among other prominent people in the society. Osagie said Obaseki and Comrade Oshiomhole had been locked in a political tussle over the governor’s policy choices focused on prioritising the peoples’ welfare as against pressures by a handful of politicians to share the state’s resources. https://www.thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2019/12/mama-oshiomhole-dragged-into-sons-feud-with-obaseki/amp/ |

hed December 25, 2019 John Ameh, Abuja The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has told the newly-posted United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Mary Leonard, that though it is not an easy task to work for the unity of Nigeria, he is doing his best. The General added that his conscience was clear with regard to upholding human rights in the country, saying, “I took an oath and I am honoring the office. Buhari spoke to Leonard on Tuesday in Abuja when she visited the Presidential Villa to present her Letters of Credence to him. Leonard, during the visit, had said that her country placed Nigeria on its watch list due to the humanitarian situation in the country. She stated that the action was taken as part of efforts to deepen conversation on the issue. A statement by Buhari’s media aide, Mr. Garba Shehu, after the meeting, quoted the retired General as saying that some sources of information might be “misleading” and “self-serving;” adding that Buhari told his visitor that his conscience was clear in line with the oath he took to defend Nigeria. “I know that those with access have created an impression of being marginalised. “I sit here with a clear conscience. I took an oath and I am honoring the office,” General Buhari said. He recalled how he explained to President Donald Trump, during a visit to Washington DC, that reports on attacks on segments of Nigeria were not entirely true. Buhari added, “It is not an easy task to work for the unity of the country, and I am doing my best. “During your stay in the country, I am asking you to ensure that your sources of strategic information cut across.” He advised the envoy to take her time to study Nigeria by getting facts on the situation of things in the country. https://punchng.com/human-rights-abuse-my-conscience-is-clear-buhari-tells-us-envoy/ |

The First African To Attain The Rank Of A Field Marshal In The Army opera.comDec 23, 2019 9:11 PM The field marshal is the highest rank in the military. After the rank of a general (4 star), you get the rank of field marshal (five star). To attain this rank, it requires an extra ordinary achievement by a general mostly after victories in a tough War. Only few individuals have attained such position. Most countries have never had someone attain the rank of a field Marshal such as Nigeria, Cameroon, England etc Many rulers have used the title of a field Marshal, but this write-up is about the first to reach such position in Africa through the military. The first field Marshal in the continent of Africa is Abdel Hakim Amer. Abdel Hakim Amer was born in the year 1919 and died in the year 1967. He was an Egyptian military official who played a leading role in the establishment of Egypt as a republic in 1952, through a military coup that brought in Gamal Abdel Nasser to power after overthrowing king Farouk. The same year he was named Chief of the Egyptian army. When Egypt and Syria formed the United Arab Republic in 1958, he was named the Field Marshal. Later in 1959 he was appointed governor of Syria. During the unrest in Syria, he was sent back to Cairo. In 1964 he was appointed the first Vice President to Gamal Nasser and Deputy Supreme Commander of the military. Egypt Suffered a crushing defeat in the year June 17, 1967 in the Six-Day War. Abdel Hakim Amer was to be blamed for the disastrous defeat and was sent to an early retirement. Later same year, Abdel Hakim Amer was arrested and accused of leading a coup. He was alleged to have committed suicide during house arrest by taking a large amount of poisonous pills. His family members till date still insist that he was murdered.
