There was a massive defection of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which is in opposition in Bauchi State to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is in power.

The new members were officially received and welcomed into the party by the SSA, Domestic Affairs to the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Abubakar Adamu Barde during a ceremony held in Duguri district over the weekend.

The SSA to the Governor led other stakeholders from Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas to receive hundreds of decamped members from the APC to the PDP.

Leaders of the APC members said that they decided to dump the APC in order to support the re-election efforts of Governor Bala Mohammed as their son who has executed many developmental projects in all the nooks and crannies of the local government and Duguri district in particular.

They pledged to support the Governor for the success of the PDP at all levels in the 2023 General elections.

Mohammed told the mammoth crowd that Governor Bala Mohammed as their son has done excellently well in the last three years of his stewardship and that as people who benefited immensely from many laudable projects they must set the pace for other people to emulate.

A rally in support of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the Lekki area of Lagos on Saturday has resulted in heavy traffic.

The mass defections in the APC are a positive sign that Nigerians are ready to once again embrace the repositioned @OfficialPDPNig and voted out the directionless and clueless APC. Thus, I was very glad to welcome earlier today about 5306 Supporters of APC into the winning PDP.

I urged them at the reception ceremony to dedicate themselves in promoting the PDP, and garnering of votes in the upcoming general elections so that PDP Presidential Candidate, H.E @atiku Abubakar, and Vice Presidential Candidate, @IAOkowa can together rescue and unite Nigeria.

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West have said the current crisis rocking the party will not affect its chances of clinching power from the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in 2023.

The party leadership gave the assurance in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State when they received the immediate past Commissioner for Water Resources in Ondo State, Yetunde Adeyanju and 3500 supporters who decamped from APC to the opposition PDP.

The PDP chieftains stated that the current crisis within the camp of the party will only make it stronger for the task ahead.

They said Nigerians are tired of the misrule of the present APC led Government.

Adeyanju who was a leader of the Women’s Group for Governor Akeredolu’s re-election campaign in 2016 and 2020 said she can no longer pretend that all is well with the ruling APC.

Adeyanju and her supporters were received into the PDP by the State Chairman of the party, Fatai Adams, supported by the Governorship Candidate of PDP in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, Deputy Governor-Elect of Osun State, Kola Adewusi and former National Vice Chairman, Eddy Olafeso.

The All Progressives Congress in Kebbi State, on Monday, received prominent politicians who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to its fold.

The defected persons included former Auditor-General of the party, Alhaji Rabiu Sa’idu, former Secretary, Caretaker Committee of the party, Alhaji Sirajo Ibrahim and 15 other PDP executive members from Bubuce ward in Augie Local Government Area, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Others included Umaru Wakkala, Vice Chairman, Bubuche Ward; Salihu Shayi, Youth Leader; Alhaji Idi Bubuche, Treasurer and Hamza Kilu, Auditor.

Speaking shortly after making their declaration to join the ruling party, the former Auditor-General of the party, Saidu, attributed his defection to the “sterling leadership qualities of Governor Atiku Bagudu”.

He also said he denounced his membership of PDP due to alleged injustice and infringement on their rights in the party.

Saidu appreciated Magajin Rafin Kabi, Alhaji Bello Dantani, for being instrumental to his defection to the APC alongside his followers.

Sirajo Augie, a one-time PDP Caretaker Secretary said: “I am impressed with the roads infrastructure development in Augie Local Government Area under the leadership of Sen. Atiku Bagudu.

“This road constructed by the present administration under Sen. Atiku Bagudu is one of the most important.”

In attendance were the Augie Local Government APC Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Isah-Mera; Chairman Augie Local Government Area, Lawal Muhammad-Yola; Chairman Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Haruna Maitandu,  and the former Chairman, Direct Labour Agency, Alhaji Bello Dantani.

A public affairs commentator and a contemporary reporter, Sani Michael Omakoji, has described the PDP House of Reps candidate for Dekina/Bassa federal constituency in Kogi state, Usman Austin Okai, as a round peg in a round hole.

Legit.ng reports that Omakoji made the observation while highlighting Okai's activities during his "thank you tour" to the delegates of the constituency, describing it as "a triumphant entry of an Eagle.”

In the report, Omakoji wrote: "Okai's "thank you tour" to some towns and villages in Dekina and Bassa local government area could best be described as that of "a triumphant entry of an Eagle" to familiar land. “Though the "thank you tour", according to comrade Usman Austin Okai, was meant to be behind the close-door to say "thank you" to distinguished delegates for entrusting your mandate into my person, for Dekina/Bassa federal constituency - 2023 election year, but the visit turned out to be solidarity, carnival, confirmation of mandate, cross-carpeting and show of love from not just the delegates but lovers of Okai in those areas.

“For example, at Abocho in Dekina local government area, it was a show of love and solidarity as men and women gathered in clusters form along the road to receive the person of Usman Austin Okai.

He further stated: “Also, at Ate Iji in Anyigba, same Dekina local government area, Okai was welcomed by hundreds of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful and lovers of Okai where many defectors from All Progressive Congress (APC), burnt their brooms and tore their membership cards to succumb to Okai's political tsunami that has seen many decamped to PDP. “Similarly, at Ojikpadala in Dekina local government area, the situation was not a different narration as both young men, women and old men, women alike were seen singing and calling Okai names like "Akpabana" (Thunder), " Iduh Ogecha", (the real Lion), "Ukomu Améñale (The voice of the downtrodden), " "Énékélé Unédó", ( the fearless one ) among others.

As the 2023 election draws near, former Local Government Chairmen who served between 2016 and 2019 under the administration of Ogun State former Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the factional PDP governorship candidate of the party, Oladipupo Adebutu, alongside the Director General of the Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organization, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, received the decampees in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The decampees expressed their delight at joining Adebutu’s “moving train”.


The former Chairpersons: Gafar Balogun(Ewekoro LG), Mrs Olabisi Collins (Obafemi Owode LG), Gbadebo Olajuwon (Ifo LG), Ekun Adebayo (Ifo LG), Josu Amos (Ipokia LG), Kunle Folarin (Abeokuta North LG), and Rasaq Adeagbo (Yewa North LG), declared their steadfast commitment towards the victory of Adebutu and affirmed their unwavering support for the party at large.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, about 2, 000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have left the ruling party for the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that during the event on Monday in Kadorko town, Keana Local Government Area (LGA), Francis Orogu, the Nasarawa State PDP Chairman, welcomed the decampees to his party.

They burnt brooms which is the APC symbol while chanting “APC Sai mun bata wuta”.

Kadarko is the hometown of Orogu.

Orogu, who is also the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PDP Chairmen Forum, said: “The APC has not achieved anything and the answer to that question is in the street.

“You don’t need to go a distance before you know that the APC government is a failure; they have lost the confidence of the people because their performance is grossly below expectation.”

According to the decampees, the PDP is the only political party that is capable of uniting Nigerians.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ghali Na’Abba has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he defected to a few years ago, is a disaster and calamity that has taken the nation backward.

Na’Abba said the ruling APC will surely face the wrath of Nigerians come 2023 for causing more pains to the nation.

In a statement by Hon Dr Golu Timothy, Na’Abba’s defection was announced yesterday at a large meeting of former House of Representatives members in Abuja by former deputy Speaker, Austin Okpara, who presided over the meeting.

He said Na’Abba alongside all his supporters in Kano State and across other states have all returned to the PDP to work for the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as president next year.

Presiding over the meeting, Austin Okpara said the PDP is poised to take over power to restore human dignity and economic survival of the nation.

He said the absence of the PDP in power in the last eight years has affected everything in the country and that the earlier the party is back in power, the better for everyone.

Timothy, in the statement added that a lot of strategic decisions were taken by the House for smooth and effective campaigns among which is the decision that all former federal legislators should lead the presidential campaigns in their various constituencies.
