The Chairman of the opposition PDP in Katsina state, Alhaji Salisu Yusuf Majigiri said the party has received more than 7,000 members who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).
Majigiri made this claim when he was talking to the media in Katsina.
He said the members of the main opposition party in the state are getting economic growth due to what he called the mismanagement of the ruling APC government.
He said: "We received more than 7,000 APC and NNPP members who defected from Danja and Bakori yesterday (Sunday). In Bakori we received 4,000 members and Danja 3,000.
It is a great development for PDP and it is an indication that APC is not the party that will defeat it because people are always leaving the party.”
He also assured the defectors that the PDP in the state is a united party that cannot be separated from it, which is planning to wrest power from the APC in 2023, assuring that they will benefit from all the rights and privileges that the other members of the party are receiving.
While assuring them that members of the new PDP have the right to vote and be elected to any position, Majigiri promised to join hands with them for unity and the continued success of the party in the elections. next year 2023.
A member representing Kano Municipal, Shaaban Sharada, has defected from All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Action Democratic Party, ADP.
Upon his defection, DAILY NIGERIAN exclusively gathered that the lawmaker joined the ADP and picked the governorship ticket of the party.
Credible sources at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in Kano said Mr Shaaban will fly ADP governorship flag alongside his running-mate, Rabiu Bako.
Mr Sharada, who is the chairman of House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, contested for the APC gubernatorial ticket but lost to the deputy governor of the state, Nasiru Gawuna.
The outspoken lawmaker was a member of G-7, a factional APC group once led by former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.
Mr Sharada, a dogged political fighter, had braved a tough political huddle and internal opposition to win the APC Reps ticket in 2019 and later won at the general election with a wide margin.
Former Nigeria’s Vice President and Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Monday led chieftains of the party to receive decampees of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State into the party.
The other PDP Chieftains, who joined Atiku in receiving the decampees are former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, the Vice Presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
Receiving the new members into the party at the Ribadu Square in Yola, Ayu said that the rate of decampment from the APC to the PDP is increasing by the day and an indication that the opposition party is waxing stronger.
He said: “It is clear everywhere that the PDP is back. Today, we are here to take in new members to the PDP. Very soon, this venue shall be hosting the President of Nigeria who is your very own son.
“I welcome the new entrants to our party and I, therefore, hand them over to Governor Fintiri. I urge the governor to continue with his good work in making Adamawa better than he met it.”
Atiku, in a statement by his media aide, Paul Ibe, who was greeted with euphoria by the crowd at the venue, also welcomed the decamped new members of the party, promising that he would work with them.
He said: “I have been serving the people since I joined politics 30 years ago and that is my promise to you all today. I believe that Governor Fintiri has done a good job and that we should join hands to make sure he wins his second term election.”
Speaking on behalf of the supporters and over 160,000 decampees in various electoral wards across the state, according to the statement, Hon. Shuaibu Babbbas, a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly from the Fufore Gurin constituency affirmed their loyalty and commitment to the PDP in its quest to oust the APC and fix the broken state of the country’s socio-economic and political fabrics.
Meanwhile, Ayu has cleared the air over his alleged resignation letter sent to the former President of the Senate, David Mark.
It could be recalled that there have been calls from different quarters for Ayu to resign, following the battle of interest between Atiku and the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike.
While some stakeholders have been calling for his resignation, one of the demands from Wike’s camp for peace to reign in the party was the resignation of Ayu.
It was, however, reported in some dallies that the crisis in the party made Ayu send his resignation through David Mark.
Following the purported resignation, David Mark has denied such development, Ayu, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media & Communication, Simon Imobo-Tswam, said that the report is not true.
Ayu in a statement said, “We state, with all emphasis, that this story is, in its entirety, false, baseless, reckless, inaccurate, and a complete work of fiction. If there is such a resignation, it exists only in the imagination of those who have made themselves available for hatchet jobs.
“If Dr Ayu had resigned, he would give his resignation letter to the Deputy Chairman (North); not Sen. Mark. Section 45 (i and ii) of the party’s constitution is clear on this.
“So, where does Distinguished Sen. David Mark come in here, being that he is not even a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC)? It appears that those who have been procured to blackmail the national chairman out of office are not even aware of what the party’s constitution says about the matter.
“We are shocked that such reckless, vicious, mischievous and fabricated falsehood can find prime space in the mainstream media.
“But even more shocking is the fact that otherwise, respected media houses have made themselves easy platforms for unscrupulous people to peddle falsehood and run smear campaigns, once the fee is right.
“But the fact remains that those who have been procured to write falsehood against the national chairman and those sponsoring same are investing in expensive illusions.”
The statement further said: “The national chairman is on a crucial assignment: to lead the PDP on a historic rescue mission, Come February 2023. And he will not be deterred or distracted by media terrorism or political blackmail.
“We restate, therefore, that the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has not resigned and has no plan of resigning. For clarity and emphasis, he was elected for a tenure of four years.
“Sections 45 and 47 of the PDP constitution are clear on the removal and/or resignation of the national chairman. Those who don’t know this should get copies of the party’s constitution for more information on the matter.
“PDP members and the general public are advised to ignore any stories of such a phantom resignation.”
Except for a last minute change, a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, will announce his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following a mouth-watering ‘bounty’ allegedly offered him by the the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Mr Shekarau, who represents Kano Central at the Senate, had officially defected from APC to NNPP in a letter read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on June 29.
Despite securing the automatic senatorial ticket of NNPP, DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Shekarau sneaked into Lagos on June 24 for a meeting with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to serve as his running-mate.
It was gathered the talks with Labour Party collapsed after APC and PDP leaders began efforts to woo the former governor into their fold.
When NNPP leaders learnt about Mr Shekarau’s planned defection, a 3-man delegation comprising the NNPP governorship candidate Abba Kabir-Yusuf, the senatorial candidate of Kano South Kawu Sumaila and a candidate of House of Representatives Kabiru Rurum, sought audience with him on Friday night in Abuja, but Mr Shekarau refused to see them.
Credible sources familiar with Mr Shekarau’s clandestine moves and separate meetings with the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar; his running-mate Ifeanyi Okowa and; the national chairman of the party, Iyochia Ayu, said the former governor had “reached a deal” with the PDP and is expected to formally announce his defection soon.
According to an insider, the former governor on Sunday summoned an emergency meeting of his political advisory council, dubbed the Shura Consultative Assembly, and informed the members about the latest development.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that a 21-member committee will meet on Tuesday (today) at 4pm to finalise the defection arrangements and ways to manage public criticisms that may trail Mr Shekarau’s unexpected political detour.
A source familiar with the meeting said as part of the exit plans, the presidential candidate of PDP Atiku Abubakar will come to Mr Shekarau’s Mundubawa residence to “woo” him before the formal announcement.
“The truth is that Atiku has made some mouth-watering offers such as ministerial and parastatal slots to Mallam. This is in addition to appointing him as the North West campaign coordinator and in charge of campaign finances in the region,” said the insider.
Another source close to Mr Shekarau, however, said the senator decided to dump the NNPP and abandon his senatorial candidacy because the NNPP failed to accommodate some of his associates.
“The NNPP only offered the senatorial ticket to Shekarau without giving any ticket to Mallam’s associates. So there is deep resentment in among Shekarau’s associates who felt that Mallam only negotiated his senatorial slot alone and did not make efforts for them,” said the source.
Mr Shekarau’s spokesman, Sule Yau Sule, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

As the internal crisis within the Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC continues, a member of the State Executive Committee of Oyo APC, Rasheed Ogunbiyi and other prominent stakeholders of the APC in the Ibarapa zone, have dumped the party with their supporters and pitched their tent with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Citing lack of internal democracy and manipulation of the party primaries in the party as the reasons for their exit, the members announced their defection on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital.
Ogunniyi who is the Senatorial Youth Leader of the APC joined the PDP together with Hon Gbeminiyi Olaniyan, a party leader from Ibarapa Central and Hon Semiu Oladeji, the party secretary in Ibarapa Central, together with hundreds of their supporters.
The newly defected chieftains were hosted by Mogaji Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, the Senatorial candidate of the PDP for Oyo South Senatorial District.
In his remarks, Tegbe assured them of a pride of place in the PDP and reward for their efforts.
The defectors were led by Sen. Francis Alimikhena representing Edo North senatorial district at the Senate.
They said they were leaving the APC as a result of alleged injustice against the senator, who was denied a return ticket to the Upper Chamber, losing to former governor Adams Oshiomole.
At the reception in Benin, Shaibu said he was elated to reunite with the people, with whom he had shared political journey in the past.
The deputy governor said the defection was a beginning of a movement that would sweep victory for the PDP in Edo North and the state as a whole in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
“You’re welcome to the PDP; together we will change the face of Edo North and the state in general.
“This is definitely a reunion to rescue the country. While I am very excited today, the aspect that gladdens my heart most is the invitation to Edo North to witness a tsunami of defection that will coast PDP to victory at all levels of government come 2023,” he said.
Representatives of the defectors from the six local government areas that made up the district said they wished to join Alimikhena in the PDP due to his unmatched achievements.
They said their coming to the PDP was to seek refuge and the beginning of good things in the party.
They assured that their entrant into the party had signified an end to the APC and resounding victories in the subsequent elections in the area.

Admins of some secret WhatsApp and Telegram groups run by supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu have begun mass removal of members suspected to be leaking information to 'outsiders'.
The members were accused of leaking confidential information about 'campaign strategy' to other pro-Tinubu groups in violation of the group's modus operandi, a source revealed.
It's believed that supporters of adversary candidates lurk in other pro-Tinubu groups 'due to a weak system that allows strange forces easy entry'. Hence, allowing circulation of classified information between the secret group and the 'weaker' one could spell doom, the admins fear.

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Kwara State, Alhaji Bala Mahmud, and his teeming supporters in the party yesterday dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 polls in the state.
Mahmud, who was a former member of the 14-member committee on Patigi/Lafiagi crisis set up by the state government, stated that he decided to dump APC for PDP with his supporters in view of the leadership skills of former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and the decision of the PDP to zone the governorship ticket of the party to Kwara North senatorial district ahead of next year polls in the state.
The defectors are from Patigi town, the headquarters of Patigi LGA of the state.
They were later received into the PDP fold by the former Ambassador to Japan and former governorship aspirant of the party, Professor Mohammed Yisa Gana.
Speaking at the event at Patigi, the leader of the defectors, Mahmud, said their decision was based on the zeal of the PDP as the only political party that gave Kwara North the opportunity it has been looking for.
He said: “We’ve come to join the only party that has proven to us that Kwara North is also part of Kwara State.
“I want to assure the leadership of the party that we will join hands with our people in other local government councils in Kwara North to deliver massively for the party governorship candidate, Alhaji Shuaibu Yaman Abdullahi.”
Receiving the defectors, the former governorship aspirant of PDP, Professor Gana, said: “The 11th hour money politics embarked upon by the present administration in the state will not sway our people.
“We are determined to produce the next governor for this state and no going back.
“When you talk of political structure in Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki owns it, and when you need to discuss a leader with leadership prowess, it’s him.”
A member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Shuaibu Babas, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shuaibu Babas who represents the Fufore/Gurin constituency in the Assembly, left the main opposition APC in the state alleging irregularities in the last House of Assembly primary election as his reason for quitting the party.
The legislator in a letter to the Assembly which was read at the resumed plenary on Monday by the Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, said he had to leave APC due to injustice meted to him during the last primary election of the party.
Babas said the APC failed to conduct a free and fair primary in his constituency and that he was left with no option but to leave the party.
The Speaker congratulated him for joining the ruling party and urged him to feel at home.
DAILY POST reports that by the defection of Shuaibu Babas, the 25-member Adamawa House of Assembly has the ruling PDP in the majority of 14 members, while APC has 10 and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has one.
The NNPP has one member last month when the erstwhile majority leader, Hammantukur Yattusuri defected from the PDP into the NNPP after he failed to get the PDP ticket for a House of Representatives seat that he was seeking.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi on Monday held a town hall meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state to woo voters in the state and further strengthen the campaign of Obi/Datti movement.
The gathering with a huge number of followers across tribes and religions was attended by the National Secretary of LP, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, officials of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kebbi state, youth movements for Obi and candidates of Labour Party and their executives.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief host who is the state chairman of NLC Kebbi state said that, the party has come to rescue Nigerians from the current state of the nation, as he added that LP belongs to NLC.
He also stated that since the party belongs to organised labour, it, therefore, knows no religion and tribe.

On what Peter Obi will do differently, the LP national scribe said Obi government if elected will, first of all, stabilise the country and ensure there is a responsible government in place for all Nigerians devoid of nepotism, saying when that is achieved everything will settle including the economy, security and all other sectors in the country will breathe in life.
He explained that out of the 89million votes expected, LP will take at least 70% to 80℅ which means victory “we need a country where every citizen will sleep with his eyes open, a country where every child will go to school rich or poor families.”
Fatuhu Muhammad, a member representing Daura/Sandamu/Maiadua Federal Constituency, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, after a meeting with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr Muhammad, who is President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, had on May 28 lost the APC primaries for the same seat to Aminu Jamu in a disputed two-horse race.
In a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Sarkin Yara ‘A’ Ward, Daura, the lawmaker thanked the APC for giving him the opportunity to serve his people.
“This is to notify you that I have resigned my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect commencing from Wednesday the 13th day of July, 2022. Attached herewith is my Party Membership Registration slip with slip No. KT/DRA/10/00002.
“While I thank you and the Party for the opportunity given to me to serve the interest of the people of Daura/ Sandamu/ Mai ‘Adua Federal Constituency while working with the Party, accept my best wishes please,” the lawmaker wrote.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the lawmaker had written a petition to the national headquarters of the party over alleged disqualification of the winner prior to the primaries as well as some irregularities during election, but the party blinked over his petition.
Credible sources told this newspaper that Mr Muhammad had met with the PDP presidential candidate on July 21 in Abuja and concluded arrangement to join the opposition PDP and campaign for Mr Abubakar’s election.
Babatunde Gbadamosi, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has defected to the Labour Party ahead of next year’s elections.
Gbadamosi, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos, declared his support for LP presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi.
The statement read in part, “The exit of Peter Obi from the PDP and his subsequent emergence as the Presidential candidate of the LP, and his brilliant choice of Mallam Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as running mate have rekindled my hope.
“I hereby publicly declare my resignation from the PDP and wish all the remaining members well.”
He added, “By the same token, I also hereby publicly declare my support for the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.”
Yesterday, I received a delegation of the representatives of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the eight local governments in Zone 1 who have concluded plans to dump the failed APC and join the fold of true democrats.
