I need help guys. I work in London but my family is based up North. My work allows me to do 2 weeks WFH and 2 weeks onsite every month. I live in a rented apartment paying £650 in London but only stay there for 2 weeks when onsite. In fact, there were months that I didn't stay at all but still paid rent. I need to reduce cost as this is not sustainable as I'm also paying rent in the North. I wouldn't mind room sharing or any other recommendations please.
Check my previous reply. But here are some of the tips I use, the maximum I ever spend on accommodation for a night is £17 or £18. Although mine is just a twice-per-week stay, so I go in early Monday, stay in London on Monday night, then work in the office on Tuesday. Then I leave on that very Tuesday. I do prepare food to eat in the office, and luckily for me, the canteen within the office is quite cheap, so I don’t always bother to eat what I’ve prepared, I sometimes eat that in the evening instead. Some weeks when I don’t bring food, I just eat out. But yours is quite a long stay.
I’m not sure if you can discuss with your employer the possibility of making it 1 week in, 1 week out, or 3 days weekly, as that would probably reduce the pressure on you if that’s possible. So you’d just leave home early on Monday morning and stay for two nights, then return home on Wednesday afternoon or evening. To me, that’s equivalent to 1 week in, 1 week out, or the current 2 weeks in, 2 weeks out you’re doing, the only difference would be the weekly amount you’d spend on transportation, which would kind of cancel out with the amount you’d spend on eating out. When I first started, I always went in with two cooked meals which I would keep in the fridge to eat the following day.

I forgot to mention that I always use Agoda for booking and use the price sort to lowest . I always go with the lowest or cheapest hotel at that time. I stay almost everywhere as long as it’s cheap, and I always aim for a maximum of 6 people in a room. I’ve never stayed in an 8-person room. You can ask for a 4-person room.

Thank you. The challenge with hostels is that most don't allow cooking or don't have fridge.
Try Smart Camden Inn - they allow cooking. You might as well enquire about some of their other hostels that might be close to where you work to see if they allow cooking as well. But I’m very sure about Smart Camden Inn, guys even cook rice or noodles there. Good old days when I was travelling to London every week (2-day stays) to attend the office due to the return to office mandate.

Be warned, it is 82 pages long, full of political bluster, and incredibly boring, you may need to read it thoroughly to find answers to your questions.
Parse the link to NOTEBOOKLLM, then start asking questions that apply to you. The 82 pages include information about skilled workers, students, family reunification, border security, and integration.

So you can just ask specific questions regarding skilled worker visas. Any question.

It seems the 10-year period will affect both current and prospective applicants.

There is a very high chance that she is allergic to certain foods and her skin is reacting to them. Try to eliminate "dairy" for at least 2 weeks (e.g. animal milk, cheese and egg) and any snack that has any of these ingredients (if you check the label, you will see them in bold).

Instead of animal milk, buy Alpro Soya milk. Store-branded soya milk (Asda, Tesco, Morrison) is cheaper if Alpro is expensive. Instead of eggs, give more protein—fish, beef, and chicken.

Try this for two weeks (without adding additional medication); trust me, the itching will subside.

Also, tell go back to your GP, ask them to do an allergy test for you. The GP will tell you it's not needed and that it's just Eczema. Insist and tell the Doctor that you want the allergy test done by fire by force (i am serious).

If you get a push back, say to the doctor that the itching is worrying you, you can't sleep, you can't concentrate at work and its causing you depression.

Do copy me into your findings and I'll advise some more
Hi, thank you for your suggestions.

Everything mentioned has been put into practice, including vitamin D, for over two weeks now, along with what other posters have suggested.

It seems I’ll need to emphasize the allergen test to the doctor. The last time we went to the GP, we brought it up. If I had seen your advice earlier, I would have insisted on the allergen test, because from my own research, it seems likely she might be allergic to something.

Morning all, could someone please suggest a cure for eczema and itchy skin for a 3-year-old girl based on past experience, please?

She's had eczema since she was 1 year old, initially appearing only on both knees. We've been using Aveeno cream since then, but it got worse this year when it started appearing all over her body. We took her to the GP, and she prescribed a steroid. It clears it away temporarily, but it comes back even more after withdrawing the steroids.

She keeps waking up during the night due to itching and can sometimes take 1 to 2 hours before she falls back asleep. As a result of the scratching, we also can't sleep until she sleeps.

She's not always in a good mood during the day as she spends lots of time scratching all over her body.

She's been sent back home a couple of times from nursery due to that.

List of stuff we've used: Aveeno, Zerobase, Hydromol, Epimax, Dermol lotion for bathing, steroid cream, Piriton for itching (this makes her too sleepy).

Note: Residents of Scotland are not required to use an agency (Voya Visa) as we can get an appointment directly at the embassy in Edinburgh.

Do you make the request for interview questions from both government and private companies?
I don’t do private anymore, maybe after ilr (my eye see small shege when I was made redundant, since then I’ve promised myself not to go the private route).

Sure, you can ask them for question as well, but make sure you inform them well ahead and probably a reminder a day to.

I always ask for the questions to be printed out and handed to me for a face-to-face interview so ask. It helps to remind me of the points I need to hit. I now as a rule print out interview questions for all applicants when we interview.
I’ve asked interviewer twice last year to type out the question and paste during online interview.

Normally make the request before the interview date so that they are prepared.

Please has anyone aced a Civil Service interview role recently? Something around a Grade 7? Please I'll be needing some tips if any. And if you have some knowledge of how to scale through, I'd appreciate the help.

Thank you!
Make sure you understand essential criteria very well, understand the behavioral questions to be asked, have scenarios to explain them all.

Good luck.

Abeg, where I fit get Zobo leaves in the UK? I started working Night shifts in the UK and it has been very hard for me to sleep during the day.

I barely get 2hrs of sleep daily. I believe drinking Zobo will help

Search for Hibiscus tea - loose leaf options (dried leaves without bags) are also available.

Never induced sleep in me though. Perhaps I never took note.
To add, always available in Asian stores

Also available on Amazon or eBay, whichever one suits you

True, as the SOC list is wide and varied. I can see how that can help people get a sude income and build experience in different sectors which can prove valuable after ILR.
Any thoughts or idea on how one can integrate this into the current 37.5hrs weekly, not sure if some organisation offer weekend part-time jobs

It's not really clear what you're asking in the bolded but here's an explanation of the change:

Your first visa was before April 4. Before that date, you could only take on an additional job (for maximum of 20 hours) if the job was in the same occupation code as the one you were sponsored for or in the shortage occupation list.

Since April 4, you can now work an additional job (for maximum of 20 hours) if the job eligible for skilled worker sponsorship. You do not need to be sponsored for that additional job as long as you do not work more than 20 hours per week but the point is that it has to be a role that could have been eligible for sponsorship, so you can't take on roles like delivery driver or cleaner, for example. The list of eligible jobs are here under Table 1, 2 and 3 - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-skilled-occupations

You may also find this explainer article useful: https://shepwedd.com/knowledge/major-changes-skilled-worker-visa-route

As an aside, it's interesting how this very important liberalisation of the skilled worker route didn't get that much publicity. It appears the government's strategy is to reduce the number of people coming in but make it easier for people already in to do more work if they wish, thereby potentially filling some of the open roles and generating more income for themselves and, very crucially, the government lol.
Was trying to generate my new share code and still found this in the page, seems conflicting, but I will assume that the right to work share code page has not yet been updated to reflect the change

The NHS will always be a bone in the throat of any government.

Currently, £1 of every £10 is spend on the nhs, far more than any sector.

The nhs probable worked well when the country had a young population and a fast growing economy. The population is aging, as a developed country it is unlikely to grow at a very fast pace, cost of medicare has gone up....something has to give.

Either make more services privatized or strip other sectors of funds to prop up the nhs
One thing I’m really glad about the pressure on NHS, not the usual noise from the media that it’s the immigrant use of nhs that is causing pressure within the service as they are not the primary cause of strain on the system, rather, other factors such as aging populations, chronic underfunding are more contributors

@Zahra

Applied for skilled worker some months ago, this is what was stated which I fully understand (“ You are also allowed to take supplementary employment, namely work outside your normal working hours for your sponsor of up to 20 hours per week with another employer. This must be either in a job on the Shortage Occupation List, or in the same occupation code as the job described in your certificate of sponsorship.”)

I applied for another one last week and it stated that
“You are also allowed to take supplementary employment, namely work outside your normal working hours for your sponsor of up to 20 hours per week with another employer. This must be a job listed in the Standard Occupational Classification system (tables 1-3) in the Immigration Rules.”

I don’t really understand this and can find the table1-3 they are referring to.

Make this people no go tell me say I will not be eligible to carry out my time job again, this is not funny.

Please advise, suggestions and input from all other members are welcome

meowvinn:
good evening all,

pls this is a long question but I will appreciate any response from experienced users here.

my sister set up an online email marketing business and registered it in the UK even though she was still in Nigeria. This was done to overcome the payment obstacles on most platforms for nigerian citizens/residents. She put my name in as a manager during the registration process. At this time, I was also still in nigeria.

fast forward to now, I’m on a student visa. She got offered business funding by Stripe which she can only claim if she’s a UK business owner AND a UK resident. She only meets one of the criteria, so she wants me to claim it in my capacity as a Manager of the business.

so my question now is:
- is being listed as a manager even though this was before coming to the Uk, against my student visa?
- is claiming the business fund using my own details not going to go against the rules of my student visa?
copied (Manager Listed Before Moving to the UK: Being listed as a manager for a business before you came to the UK, in itself, is not likely to violate the terms of your student visa. However, any active role you play in the business while in the UK, especially if it involves paid work, could potentially be problematic. Student visas typically have specific restrictions on the type and amount of work you can legally undertake.

Claiming the Business Fund: Using your details to claim the business fund could be considered as actively engaging in business operations, which might not align with the work restrictions on your student visa. Student visas often limit the number of hours you can work and may restrict engaging in business activities or holding certain levels of responsibility in a business.

few steps you might consider:

Review Visa Conditions: Check the specific conditions of your student visa. Most visas will explicitly state what kind of work or business activity is permitted.
Legal Advice: Given the complexity and the stakes involved (both immigration and potential legal issues around misrepresenting the business ownership or operations), it would be wise to consult with an immigration lawyer or a legal advisor who specializes in business law. They can provide advice tailored to the specifics of your case.
Communicate with Stripe: If possible, explaining the situation to Stripe may help. They might have legal teams who understand these complexities and could advise on a compliant way to process the funding.)

Elders Good Morning,

Please I need your candid advice, I recently got a permanent offer which is closer to where I live and pays more than my former role but the snag here is that my wife is heavily pregnant and I
This reminds me last year less than 2 months to my spouse EDD, employer proposed a start date todays the EDD, I gave two options which were either I start immediately with their proposed start date with full work from home for 2 months or I start at a later date almost two months as well. They were happy with the first option, tho my performance was way above expectations in the first 2 months most especially for someone coming in newly.

I haven't got experience of either, but my observation is that compared to the NHS, the civil service is increasingly being accused as being bloated with job cuts being suggested.
Read a whole Reddit thread on it, and the conclusion on that is there may be a freeze in hiring, also natural waste (retirement, leavers, sickness, death etc ) will account for the numbers planned. Also if there is a change in govt, it’s likely that it’s never going to come very soon because new govt will need CS staffs for there planning etc., it’s also very expensive laying off permanent staffs, and the process is always very long,

Some highly operational departments or sectors in CS will be immune to it as well.

Heard from a friend also that their is hiring freeze in some nhs trust (nhs not immune to redundancy or downgrading I guess most especially those in corporate)

I have not asked them anything about sponsorship but the response has completely shattered me as I would be moving to another town for this role, my current job contract expires in August and I’ve been told renewal is possible.
I’d ask them immediately, most especially once I get the unconditional offer. Same applies to my spouse, got nhs B3 (support worker) in England. We already concluded on moving to England because I want to be flexible with my work, then we were advised to ask if they do sponsor, surprisingly she was told they don’t offer sponsorship to b3 healthcare, was glad that we asked and not assuming that they will definitely give based on hearsay that other trust sponsors b3 healthcare, glad that we asked the question, which saved us a lots.

DWP is also doing the same offering role based on length of visa. It’s kinda tough outside these days, in fact some of HR are now confused with this new rule and guidance.

Would advice you stay in your current role if sponsorship is guaranteed (make sure you ask if you haven’t), then if not just love to B7 and start planning to move to another one again that can sponsor (also have it in mind that mid that when you plan to join another employer (I’m sure of civil service, not sure of nhs, your current annual pay will be protected, will not be lesser) so that give you an edge in term of salary being above current threshold.
