The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Honourable Mai Mala Buni has disclosed "I am bold to say that the Nigerian Army has evidently recorded tremendous successes in the ongoing war against insurgency in Yobe State."

National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP gathered that the Governor made the statement of confidence on Saturday 4th February 2023 during Headquarters Sector Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) West African Social Activities held at the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.

Governor Buni further called for continuous review of the strategy to outdo and overcome the marauding insurgents whose tactics and strategy are continually changing. He stressed on the need to counter the emerging security challenges that are trying to replace insurgency such as kidnapping and criminal extortion of innocent citizens in the State.

He also assured that the Yobe State Government remains a partner in progress with the Sector in the ongoing counter insurgency effort through information sharing, intelligence gathering and other forms of operationally expedient supports.

NAOSNP can report that the Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security Affairs, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd) used the occasion to thank the Commander Sector 2 OPHK and by extension, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for his exemplary leadership in tackling the various challenges confronting the Nation and Yobe State in particular.

He acknowledged the Nigerian Army Quick Impact Project in Gulani Local Government Area of the State. A good gesture that restores hope and confidence, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Lander Saraso stated that the West African Social Activities (WASA) is an annual event meant to strengthen social relationships among officers, soldiers and their families, as well as their friends through cultural displays, musical performances and other regimental activities.

He also added that it is an event that is usually organised to mark the end of tedious and eventful training or operational year and heralds the beginning of another new year.

General Saraso further said the event was conceived to create an atmosphere for Officers and Men of the Sector to meet together outside the trenches of the ongoing operations in order to wine, dine and make merry, NAOSNP can report.

He disclosed that the Sector under his command will continue to be committed and responsive in discharging Constitutional roles in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya; which is to have a "Professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria".

He extended his profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Yobe State Honourable Mai Mala Buni for his continuous support. He also thanked the good people of Yobe State for their unflinching support.

The event was indeed colourful as it witnessed various cultural dance displays, musical performances, comedies, tug of war Competition, presentation of souvenirs, Beating of Retreat and Lighting of Bonfire WASA by the Special Guest of Honour. The event was also well attended as it drew participants from all Security Agencies in the State, Members of the Traditional Council, International NGOs, Captains of Industries, Directors and Managers of Public and Corporate Organizations, Members of the National Youth Services Corps as well as

POLICE PUBLIC COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE IS CRITICAL AND STRATEGIC TO FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS - PPCC BOSS, ABEL

The Chairman of the Police Public Complaints Committee (PPCC), Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan has reiterated that the PPCC was crucial, central, and strategic to the free and fair conduct of elections that would be acceptable to Nigerians.

He stated this at a regular meeting of the Committee held at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja on Thursday 2nd February, 2023.

The Chairman, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, observed that once members of the public perceived the policeman as friend, partner, dependable and trusted ally, they would feel free and comfortable to participate and exercise their franchise during the elections.

Mr. Abel noted that fear was palpable in some regions of the country because of vested interests, which have led to the incessant destruction of property, and sometimes harassment of the citizens. He also noted that there was the need to always calm frayed nerves and assured the citizens that once their rights were violated, there were available channels to seek redress and get justice.

In his words, “when there is a channel through which you can make your grievances known and obtain justice, citizens could go out there to do whatever they wanted to do within the limits of the law. If citizens were molested by policemen in uniform, they had the right channel to seek redress. The general public should have a platform to lay their complaints whenever there was the need to do so and to be sure that they get justice at the end of the day. This will diffuse tension in the country”.

The Chairman emphasized that the committee was a critical agent of peace that seeks to fight for the downtrodden, the less privileged, and the vulnerable and harvest complaints put forward for consideration and handle them in such a way that the aggrieved would be satisfied.

The committee emphasized the need for more visibility of its activities to the citizens and effective partnership with relevant agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Police Service Commission (PSC), the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) as well as market and transport organizations to create and improve the awareness of the citizens on the responsibility of the committee.

The Police Public Complaints Committee (PPCC) is an additional layer for the protection of people’s rights whenever there were infringement on these rights or abuse of power, particularly by police personnel in the line of duty.

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, ordered his brother, Prince Emmanuel, to stop making public statements on behalf of himself or the family.

Emmanuel, in January, urged the public to disregard a voice note that had gone viral, alleging that the IPOB Leader was poisoned in detention.

He claimed that he met with the IPOB Leader at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS, where he is currently detained.

Reliable sources gathered by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP that the statement issued by Prince Emmanuel has degenerated into controversies among top members of the group.

Many believed Emmanuel's statement downplayed the health challenges of the leader and the concerns for his safety.

They noted that the leader of the group was miffed by the statement released by his brother and has ordered that he should stop making public statements.

NAOSNP also obtained a series of correspondences between the IPOB leader and members of the group.

A member of the group who pleaded anonymity confirmed this saying: "It is true that Emmanuel has been ordered to stop making statements. This came from Mazi himself. We are working on settling the issue,".

As of the time of filing this report, the outlawed group's lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and spokesperson, Emma Powerful, could not be reached for comments.

INSIDE IPOB's MULTIPLE CRISES

This comes at a time the IPOB is facing crises in different countries including Germany and South Africa, which has led to the expulsion and suspension of members.

Another Kanu's sibling, Kingsley Ezebuiro, who is also known as 'Kanunta', was suspended from the IPOB branch in Germany late January.

Kingsley's suspension was announced in a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group in Germany, Collins Chinedu.

“The lPOB leadership in Germany unanimously suspends him (Kingsley) indefinitely from the family of IPOB in Germany led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with effect from today, the 21st of January 2023,” the statement read.

Kingsley was also accused of engaging in activities that bring disrepute to the IPOB globally.

The group said Kingsley is just an ordinary member of IPOB in Landsberg am Lech, Germany, but has been using his affiliation to the detained IPOB leader, Mr Kanu to gain “unmerited super advantage” and has been placing himself above every IPOB rule.

But Kingsley, in a series of tweets, has debunked news of his suspension, stating that it was masterminded by Chinedu, who he claimed has been expelled.

"I am born for a day like this, Kanunta Kanu is very much around” This is to inform the general public that Mr Collins Chinedu, was officially expelled from #IpobfamilyGermany by #MaziNnamdiKanu on 28:11:2022 through @AloyEjimakor . And his successor is Mazi OGBONNA ABRAHAM," he wrote on Twitter.

In another codified tweet, the IPOB leader's brother challenged Chinedu for not wanting to relinquish his position.

“After all, I am not being paid for serving IPOB - yes you are right. But why do you put up a fight when you’re asked to leave your position?" Kingsley asked.

Also in January, the South African branch of the group suspended some members for anti-IPOB activities.

This, NAOSNP gathered, led to the creation of a parallel organisation within the South African branch.

The suspended members have registered another IPOB branch in Western Cape under which they operate.

But the South African national coordinator, Ogechukwu Isu, has countered the creation of the parallel group.

He reiterated that all communication and requests for marches or any public gathering will only be made through the official Head Office in South Africa based in Johannesburg, Braamfontein.

"It has come to our attention that certain members in various provinces who have been suspended for not abiding by the constitution and code of conduct of the organisation (POB), are going around masquerading and presenting themselves and holding, marches, protests or events in the name of IPOB This is most regrettable and unfortunate because unsuspecting people have been caught unawares and misled by these acts of the imposters concerned.

There is only one IPOB registered with the CIPC with the registration numbers 2019/593089/08 or further with registration number 2022/618519/08, which is the NPC registration and Welfare registration but to all intents and purposes referring to the same organisation," he stated.

A FAMILY BUSINESS?

Furthermore, It was gathered that Kanu, who is very unhappy with the crisis in the group, also instructed his brother, Emmanuel to confirm the status of some foreign bank accounts owned by the group from Kingsley adding that they should also give feedback on the amount of funds held in them.

NAOSNP gathered that the crisis in Germany which led to Kingsley's suspension was also partly caused by the discovery of over 700,000 Euros stockpiled in one of the organisation's account managed by him.

The Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-rufai, pledged to support the families of slain officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who paid the supreme price in the course of protecting miners and mining sites in the state, to cushion the effects of the hardship that the loss of their breadwinners may have created.

El-rufai made the pledge when he played host to the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, recently at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, where he condoled with the CG on the deaths of the gallant men who died in active service.

He sympathised with their loved ones left behind and the NSCDC family, promising continuous support in terms of logistics, operational equipment, and working tools to improve its operational services.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Corps, especially in the protection of critical assets and infrastructure in the state, citing the mining sector as significant to the growth of the nation’s economy.

He said that the activities of bandits and incidences of attacks on innocent citizens have become so worrisome.

Therefore, to enhance the closeness of security services to the grassroots and accessibility to the people, the Governor said, he will direct all Local Government Chairmen in the state to build more Outposts for the Corps in their LGAs.

He commended the CG for bringing about transformational changes in the Corps, like the establishment of the Special Female Squad, which is driving the Safe Schools Initiative, among other efforts.

The NSCDC helmsman, Dr Audi, thanked Governor El-rufai for his magnanimity in remembering the bereaved families.

He commended his heart of kindness and humane personality even as a Governor with loads of state issues in mind, adding that the bereaved families will be grateful for this kind gesture.

He also appreciated him for more outposts he promised to build for the Corps in Kaduna state, stating that the gesture will aid easy communication, reinforcement of personnel and reduce response time to emergencies.

He stated that, the Governor’s support is coming at the right time because, in order to improve the operational activities of the Corps in the State, he already approved the creation of additional eight Divisional offices, three Area Commands and more Outposts in the state.

Audi assured the Governor of the Corps’ determination and commitment to doing its best in securing lives and protecting critical assets and infrastructure in the state without compromise.

He promised to invest in adequate training and retraining of personnel by organising more refresher courses that will help upscale the skills, prepare, equip, and properly position the personnel well for undertaking different security assignments.

Alleged Assault Charge Against DSS DG's Wife, Cheap and Baseless Gossip, Says DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has described as 'cheap and baseless gossip' the story making the rounds that Mrs. Aisha Bichi, the wife of the Service's Director General, Yusuf Bichi, ordered the arrest of Kano governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Abba Yusuf, and barred him from boarding a Max Air flight from Kano to Abuja on Sunday night', adding that the story was the figment of the writer's imagination.

In a response to the alleged assault, which was made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Mr. Peter Afunanya, said that such flippant allegation was unheard of in journalism, and does not worth the attention of a professional newspaper or journalist.

"This is a cheap and baseless gossip, not worth attention of a professional newspaper or journalist," Afunanya said.

It would be recalled that some online platforms had reported that Mrs. Bichi, ordered the arrest of the politician, stopping him from board his flight as well ordered the shooting of another person at the same time at the Aminu Kano International Airport.

Afunanya wondered why a journalist could concoct such a story, which he dismissed as gossip. He advised members of the fourth realm to verify and double check their stories before running to publish.

The image maker noted that a section of some unscrupulous elements have been trying to smear to image of the DG and the Service for the sake of filthy luckre, adding that the both the DG and the Service will remain focused, and will never allow the activities of enemies of the state to distract them from their constitutional responsibilities of providing requisite intelligence to enhance the security of the nation at all levels.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, was on ground in Damaturu, Yobe State for the commissioning of some state-of-the-art construction projects by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR. Amongst the various projects commissioned include a fully furnished ultra-modern Police Hospital complete with an hospital block, administrative block, pharmacy building, a modern accident and emergency centre, as well as a morgue.

Others include a newly constructed two-storey structure to serve as the Yobe State Police Command headquarters fully fitted with furnishings, contemporary information and technology assets, and an elevator and access for persons with physical challenges. Also commissioned is a new block of classrooms, an administrative block, and two hostel blocks for the Police Secondary School in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The President, while expressing his satisfaction with the elegance of the projects, lauded the Inspector-General of Police for his visionary leadership and commitment to better policing services for all members of the country, which has translated into magnificent projects for the Nigeria Police Force all around the country.

The Commissioning event had in attendance the Executive Governors of Yobe and Borno States, Hon. The Department of State Services (DSS) has cleared the air regarding an online publication by the Daily Trust of January 5, 2023, with the headline “Court Stops DSS from Arresting INEC Chairman”.

The DSS spokesman, Mr. Peter Afunnaya, while reacting to the issue, in a statement, made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), said the Department has discovered that the newspaper skewed what transpired at the Court and reported it out of context

He added that It is against the backdrop that the Service pointed out its disapproval to the Editorial authorities of the Newspaper. The outfit, which though argued that what was reported in its online version was different from the hard copy, promised to address the concerns raised but did not.

According Afunnaya, the statement became imperative to guide the public understanding and perception, especially that the said report is misleading against the INEC Chairman which is not after all.

"Nonetheless, the Service is aware of the antics of some mischievous elements who are desirous of fomenting crisis in the country, including creating unnecessary controversies around the forthcoming general elections.

"One of their strategies is to subvert the efforts of the Service in ensuring peaceful coexistence and harmony", Peter enthused.

In his further submission, Afunnaya pointed out that it's another calculated attempt and determination to overheat the polity and subtly exploit the judiciary to distract or even undermine not only the Service, but other security and law enforcement agencies from undertaking their constitutional roles.

The DSS spokesman while setting the record straight, warned individuals and groups to desist from their devious plans, adding that all critical stakeholders to be vigilant, and resist attempts to use them to thwart the law.

He however, assured Nigerians and the International Community of the Service’s commitment to the maintenance of law and order, including an accomplishment of a free and fair 2023 election as already pledged by Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief, the Service urges all and sundry to join in the pursuit of national stability and unity.

NSCDC RECRUITMENT: BEWARE OF JOB SCAMMERS, NO APTITUDE TEST ON 8TH OF JANUARY 2023; NSCDC WARNS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has cautioned Nigerians not to allow job scammers and cyber criminals take advantage of the corps’ recruitment process in order to extort unsuspecting applicants of their monies.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the Corps’ Spokesperson, DCC Olusola Odumosu stated that, “The attention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been drawn to an erroneously crafted message to applicants about the recently advertised NSCDC 2022 recruitment exercise circulating in the media, various social media platforms and WhatsApp groups.”

According to the statement, “The message which reads in parts states that, “The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) wishes to inform the general public that the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for recruitment into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will hold on the 8th of January, 2023 in the 36 States of the federation and FCT.”

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), on Friday, advised all shortlisted candidates for the CDCFIB Computer-Based Aptitude Test to start checking their email addresses/phones for their Exam Centres notifications as from midday.

“The NSCDC wishes to state clearly and categorically that this message is fake, misleading and a calculated attempt by fraudsters and cyber criminals to take advantage of recruitment process in order to extort unsuspecting applicants of their monies by causing panic and creating unnecessary tension with the said write up.”

Members of the public and desperate job seekers are hereby warned not to fall victims of Extortions and Job Scams through a grandiose attempt by job racketeers to misinform and confuse them into parting with different sums of money in the name of helping to shortlist them for the Aptitude Test and getting placement in NSCDC.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that the mastermind of the Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) attack which occurred on 29th December, 2022, near the Palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Okene, Kogi State, has been arrested.

The attack which took place during the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to commission some projects, was masterminded by Abdulmumin Ibrahim Otaru (aka Abu Mikdad) and one of his associates, Saidu Suleiman, who are now in custody, according to a statement signed by the Service's Public Relations Officer, Mr Peter Afunanya, and made available to the National Association Of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP)

The duo was arrested on January 3, 2023.

The statement further noted that Otaru sustained a gunshot injury on his left foot while attempting to escape, and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

The statement reads in part:

"During investigations, it was ascertained that Otaru was a high commander of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and either coordinated or was involved in the following dastardly operations:
i. The 24th June, 2022 attack on Nigeria Police Area Command, Eika-Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of Kogi State. A Police Inspector, Idris MUSA was killed and two (2) AK-47 rifles carted away in that attack;
ii. The 5th July, 2022 attack on Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje Area Council of the FCT; and
iii. 5th August, 2022 attack on West African Ceramics Ltd (WACL) in Ajaokuta LGA, Kogi in which three (3) Indian expatriates were kidnapped. It would be recalled that five (5) persons including one (1) Indian, two (2) Policemen and two (2) drivers of the company were also killed in the attack. The kidnapped expatriates were released on 31st August, 2022.

"OTARU operated terrorist cells in and around Kogi State. Similarly, he and his gang had staged several kidnap operations in Kogi and Ondo States. Meanwhile, the suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted accordingly.

"The Service reiterates its commitment to the safety of the nation. It assures to work assiduously with stakeholders including sister security agencies to tackle the menace of terrorism and other forms of criminality and threats to national security. It, therefore, calls on citizens to support it and other law enforcement organisations with relevant information and all the necessary cooperation required to achieve a peaceful country."

The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, today assured members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State Chapter when he received them in his office over the unfortunate incident of Dr. Uyi Iluobe.

National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP gathered that the doctor was murdered in his hospital, Olivet Clinic, Oghareki, Oghara, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State on 29/12/2022.

In his press statement e-signed and released to NAOSNP after the meeting, by the Delta Police PRO, DSP Bright Edafe hinted that hoodlums had attacked and shot Dr. Uyi Iluobe in his hospital. This led to his death.

DSP Edafe noted: 'Preliminary investigation revealed that on the said date, a female patient whose name and address are not known came to the hospital at about 1940 hours pretending to have abdominal pain. While the doctor was attending to her, she made a phone call to the suspects whom she deceptively invited to come and pay her bill and that she was being treated by the doctor.'

'Moments later, the hoodlums stormed the hospital in a Toyota vehicle, entered the doctor’s office, and shot him twice in the chest, leading to his death. The purported female patient fled alongside the suspects.'

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali while extending his heartfelt condolences to the family members of the deceased medical doctor and also members of the Nigerian Medical Association reassured them that the case will be thoroughly investigated to ensure that the deserved justice is served.

'Finally, it is pertinent to state clearly that the rumours making rounds that the family members of a supposedly dead patient were responsible for the murder of the doctor is completely false and should be disregarded as there is no record of any patient that died prior to the unfortunate incidence. The Command thus wishes to finally use this opportunity to seek assistance of all and sundry in our effort to lift the veil off the face of the perpetrators', Edafe concluded.
