The Syrian forces are continuing military operations against militants in the city of Aleppo, mainly focused on the districts of Bani Zaid and Layramoun. Bani Zaid is situated next to Aleppo’s most densely populated neighborhoods which conducts additional obstacles for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). This doesn’t allow the SAA to use the all its firepower.

Militants groups have reportedly formed a new coalition in order to oppose advances of the SAA. This alliance is reportedly headed by Ahrar al Sham leader, Hashim al-Sheikh and includes such groups as Ahrar al Sham, Fastaqem, Sultan Murad Division, Suqur Jabal and Muntasir Brigade. This organization will reportedly spend most of its time attempting to stop the SAA advances in the city of Aleppo.

Pro-Western propagandists have already called this group a “major opposition alliance”. However, the ideology of included units clearly shows that this group is common terrorists.

The UNSC discussed the shelling of the hospitals and schools in Northern Syria on Feb.15 which left close to 50 people dead. However, the UNSC reached “no agreement” on this topic because of the so-called “different sources” of information on the incidents.

On Feb.15, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu claimed that the hospital had been struck by a ballistic missile launched by a Russian warship deployed in the Caspian Sea. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Russia has no ships in the Caspian Sea fleet that could have hit the Syrian hospital in Idlib province with a ballistic missile.

The Russia’s Caspian Sea fleet is aimed on the regional security purpose and doesn’t have a capacity to destroy targets located in the area. All previous targets which have been hit by the fleet are located much closer to the Caspian region.

Experts believe Turkey backed by the Western media launched a full-scale propaganda campaign against the winning forces of the Syrian war to push the idea of establishing a ‘No Fly Zone’ to support for terrorists in the country.

Alexander Yakovenko, Russia’s ambassador to Britain, dropped something of a bombshell on Monday, though one that has gone completely unnoticed.

In a piece in the print edition of the London Evening Standard defending Russian policy in Syria he made the following extraordinary disclosure:

“Last summer we were told by our Western partners that in October Damascus would fall to IS (ie. the Islamic State – AM).
What they were planning to do next we don’t know. Probably, they would have ended up painting the extremists white and accepting them as a Sunni state straddling Iraq and Syria”.

The summer – when these conversations between the Western powers and the Russians allegedly took place – was the time when the US was in discussions with Turkey and Jordan about setting up a no-fly zone and safe havens in Syria.

I discussed in this article how “no-fly zone” is today simply a euphemism for a US bombing campaign.

What Yakovenko is therefore in effect saying is that the US was planning in the summer to start a bombing campaign to overthrow the government of Syria in the knowledge that this would result by October in the victory of the Islamic State and its capture of Damascus.

Russia Insider has previously explained that it was to stop the US proclaiming a no-fly zone – i.e. commencing a bombing campaign aimed at overthrowing the Syrian government – that Russia intervened in Syria.

The fact Yakovenko says the US told the Russians this would result in the Islamic State capturing Damascus by October explains why the Russians felt they had to act as they did.

Is Yakovenko however telling the truth?

The first thing to say is that the British and US governments have not denied what he is saying.

That however is not conclusive. It is not difficult to see why the British and US governments might think that in light of the incendiary nature of what Yakovenko is saying denying it would simply give his comments more publicity if they denied them and that the better approach is silence.

If so, then the fact Yakovenko’s comments have been almost entirely ignored shows this approach has worked.

Is Yakovenko however senior enough to know the details of the discussions that took place in the summer between the Russians and the Western powers as he says?

The answer to that question is almost certainly yes.

Though London is no longer the most important diplomatic posting for a Russian ambassador in Western Europe, it remains an important posting, and any official appointed to be Russia’s ambassador to Britain is by definition a senior official whom Moscow will ensure is kept well-informed.

If there were discussions of the sort Yakovenko says, he would almost certainly have been fully briefed about them.

What Yakovenko says is also consistent with things we know.

In the summer – having just captured Palmyra – the Islamic State was on a roll, making it not implausible that it might reach Damascus by the autumn.

The Syrian army in the meantime had suffered a succession of heavy defeats, and had been forced to withdraw from Idlib province.

In light of all this, in the context of a US bombing campaign, it is not implausible the US was telling the Russians in the summer that the Islamic State would seize Damascus by October.

As for the US’s discussions about setting up a no-fly zone and safe havens, there was nothing secret about those, and they were openly acknowledged.

Why however would the US tell the Russians that they expected the Islamic State to seize Damascus by October?

That is not a difficult question to answer.

No-one in the early summer thought there was any likelihood the Russians would intervene militarily in Syria. The US probably thought it was not risking anything by telling Moscow its military plans and what their likely consequences would be.

Probably what the US expected was that the threat of a bombing campaign leading to the seizure of Damascus by the Islamic State would terrify Moscow and persuade the Russians to force Assad to stand down, which has been the US objective all along.

In that case the US seriously underestimated the Russians’ resolve and their willingness to act to prevent what the US was threatening from coming to pass.

Overall Yakovenko’s disclosure makes sense, and is therefore probably true.

What it shows is how reckless the US’s Syrian policy had become.

At the very time the US was pretending to fight the Islamic State it was in fact preparing steps that it knew would facilitate its victory.

Even if this was intended as a diplomatic play it was an extraordinary thing to do.

The families of US victims of jihadi terror would surely feel betrayed if they were ever find out about it, whilst it is not difficult to imagine the consternation and recriminations in Washington when the Russians unexpectedly pre-empted the US strategy by intervening in the way they did.

As for the people of Damascus – spared not just US bombing but rule by the Islamic State – and the people of Europe – who would have faced a far bigger refugee flood if what Washington was telling the Russians had come to pass – they both have reason to be grateful to the Russians for making sure that things turned out otherwise.

Russia is the uncontested master of Syria's airspace. In a report posted this week on its website, Russia's Defense Ministry announced that over the last seven days, Russian jets flew 510 combat sorties and hit 1,888 targets in Syria. The previous week’s report claimed 464 sorties that hit a total of 1,354 targets.

As McClatchy notes, "Daily reports from the U.S. military for the same period indicate a much lower level of activity: 16 targets struck in Syria. The reports also said those forces hit 91 targets in Iraq."


Aleppo is now on the verge of complete government control. According to a Friday report in the Guardian, a rebel leader interviewed inside Aleppo stated bluntly that "the regime is advancing quite quickly. . . . We have very little left. Nothing can change things now."

Talking about a possible foreign ground invasion in Syria, Assad did not rule out the possibility of a Saudi, Turkish intervention saying, "Logically, intervention is not possible, but sometimes reality is at odds with logic, particularly when there are irrational people leading a certain state. Regarding Russia’s role in persuading him to step down, and whether he thinks there is a Russian-American deal on this issue; Assad said that Russians treat him with great respect.

“If we look at Russian policies and Russian officials in the same way we look at unprincipled Western officials and policies, this is a possibility. But the fact is the exact opposite, for a simple reason: the Russians treat us with great respect. Whether Russia and Iran will have permanent military bases in Syria, Bashar al-Assad said, “Having military bases for any country in Syria does not mean that Syria will become a satellite state to these countries. They do not interfere in issues related to the law, the constitution, nor to politics. In any case, the Russian base exists already, while the Iranians have not asked to have one. But in principle, we do not have a problem.”

During the interview Assad was asked if he intends to hold his post as president for life just like his father and if he doesn’t is he in the process of grooming a successor.

“First, the presidency is not a hobby that we enjoy. It is a responsibility, particularly in these circumstances. As to my selecting a successor, this country is neither a farm nor a company. If I want to remain president that should be dependent on two factors: first, my desire to be president, and second, the desire of the people. When the next elections come and I feel that the people don’t want me, I shall not stand. That’s why it’s too early to talk about this. We still have years before the next elections,” Assad said.


When asked how he thinks he will figure in history, as a man who saved Syria or a man who destroyed it, President Assad said, “This depends on who will write the history. If it is the West, it will give me all the bad attributes. What’s important is how I think. Certainly, and self-evidently, I will seek, and that is what I’m doing now, to protect Syria, not to protect the chair I’m sitting in.”
Talking about the Syrian army regaining control over Aleppo in the next few days, Assad said that it is not about regaining control over Aleppo, but the task is to cut the road between Aleppo and Turkey.

“Turkey is the main conduit of supplies for the terrorists. The battle has been going on now on more than ten fronts at the same time, from north, to south, to the east, to the Far East too, and to the west in Latakia. It was going on in Homs, and now it’s over. So, all these stages are moving in parallel.”

“Regardless of whether we can do that or not, this is a goal we are seeking to achieve without any hesitation. It makes no sense for us to say that we will give up any part. The timeframe is dependent on two scenarios. Suppose that the problem is purely Syrian, i.e. that Syria is isolated from its surroundings, we can put an end to this problem in less than a year by moving on two fronts: fighting terrorism and political action,” Assad said.

“The second scenario – which is the case now – taking the shape of continuing supplies to terrorists through Turkey, Jordan, and partly from Iraq – because Daesh exists in Iraq with Saudi, Turkish, and Qatari support – naturally means that the solution will take a long time and will incur a heavy price. So, it is difficult to give a precise answer about the timeframe,” the Syrian president told AFP in an exclusive interview.

Regarding how many years it may take for peace to be restored in Syria, Assad said that it depends on how many years Turkey and Saudi Arabia will continue to support terrorism.

“The question is: how much longer will Turkey and Saudi Arabia continue to support terrorism? That is the question. And when will the West put pressure on these countries to stop supporting terrorism?” the president said.

“We’re not only shocked, but also outraged, at what’s happened in terms of human suffering in the past few days for tens of thousands of people through bomb attacks, including attacks above all from Russia,”Merkel told reporters in Ankara this Monday on the side-line of a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.




Merkel is clearly serving as an echo chamber to Saudi Arabia and Turkey’s anger, frustration, and - let’s just say it - fear in the face of Damascus’ advances against Islamic State forces. Remember that when it comes to Syria, regime change remains the Western powers’ foremost priority - by their own admission. In October 2014, John Kerry, the US secretary of state, said there would never be peace in Syria “while Assad remains the focus of power.”

In January 2015, Kerry also flipped the narrative away from Western military interventionism and its de facto support of terror as a weapon of political mass-destabilization when he attempting to shift blame back onto Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, noting: “It is time for President Assad, the Assad regime, to put their people first and to think about the consequences of their actions, which are attracting more and more terrorists to Syria, basically because of their efforts to remove Assad.”

If this approach worked in early 2015, Russia’s arrival into the Syrian fray blew this play completely out of the water – exposing those realities Western powers have been so keen to keep under wrap for the sake of political decorum: mainly the terror profiteering and funding extra-curricular activities of its allies.

It was US Senator Dick Black, who, in an interview with RT, blew the whistle on those shady alliances the US and other Western capitals have entertained by noting: “I believe that Saudi Arabia and Turkey are the two greatest dangers to world peace… It is Saudi Arabia, through the Wahhabist doctrine, which is spreading terrorism across the globe. It’s not Iran, it’s not Syria or any other country.”

Senator Black is certainly not alone in his views.


"No one has a particularly credible long term strategy [for the Middle East] because it would involve facing some very uncomfortable truths - about the nature of the fight ahead of us, and imperfections of one of our most important allies in the Middle East,” said US Senator Chris Murphy in a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York this January, while alluding to Riyadh’s alliances with terror group across the Greater Middle East.

As for Turkey and Saudi Arabia, losing ground to the rising pan-Arab resistance movement is frightening!

But let’s circle back to Merkel’s allegations and Davutoglu’s genocide cries. “We are going to work together to end the suffering of the Syrian people under these barbaric acts… No one can justify or tolerate Russian air strikes which amount to an ethnic massacre.”

Coming from the lips of a Turkish official, and in the light of Turkey’s abysmal human rights abuses against its Kurdish communities, this comment really takes the cake.

Here is my question: What ethnic massacre? How deluded must Turkey be at this stage in the game to even suggest ethnic cleansing, when its military and security services are currently carrying out a brutal and murderous crackdown in its southern region against the Kurds?

If Turkey today is suddenly waving the refugee card to generate political sympathies, it is because it stands to lose a very lucrative black market: oil, weapons, human trafficking, now that Russia is actually bombing ISIS positions as opposed to Washington “selective”targeting.

Allow me to address Merkel’s concerns though, because there is indeed a refugee issue: Syrians are indeed running… anyone remotely in tune with world affairs will tell you that much. But Russia is certainly not to blame.

The fact is, the Syrians are running away from war. Anyone in their right mind would in fact run in the face of danger; this is not a political statement, simply a human observation. In fact, the Syrians have been running for the past five years – sometimes within their own borders, sometimes without. Today their escape is grabbing headlines because they have headed north towards Europe, and this has become a major issue for Western capitals - or perhaps an excellent excuse to further strip civil liberties and increase government oversight of the public sphere.

At the end of the day, this refugee plight was brought about by Western powers and their regional allies. Russia is merely working to clean up the mess and end Terror’s reign in Syria - on the express invitation of its president.

Another point which needs to be made. Russia is not targeting civilians; it is in fact targeting ISIS positions near Aleppo, offering air cover as Syrian troops crackdown on those terror pockets.

“No evidence has yet been provided on alleged casualties as a result of Russian airstrikes in Syria, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, quickly adding: “In regard to Chancellor Merkel’s claims of alleged casualties in Russian airstrikes in Syria, one needs to take into account that regardless of the huge number of similar statements, someone has yet to produce a single shred of evidence that would make this information trustworthy.”

The real question we all should be asking is: Why in the world are we still allowing our officials to lie and manipulate their way to heights of power?

What has been u.s crazy foreign policy in the middle east over the years ? miscalculation is hoping to destroy the oil prices, thinking removing Iranian oil sanctions will further affect the price of oil and in return break those economies heavilly dependent on oil. The good news is Iran won't be selling its oil in U.S devlish dollar and hypocrasy is removing one failed saction and adding it again in another list.

Sooner or later it will end and the battle field is drawn already.. So far so Good. Iran is on the side of winning teamin Syria. Facts are on the ground.

Now the world is wiser and I am even surprised that even Nigerian leaders have started dedolarizing. That in the long run will kill the failing empire and in the case of Nigeria will provide more jobs.

I wonder how Delusional Turkey and Despotic Saudi Arabia hope to pull this off? Considering that they won't be able to go in under the cover of air power (no thanks to the S-400), any ground incursion would be at great risk to their troops not to even mention the gross violation of international law & a blatant disregard for a country's sovereignty.

Saudi Arabia is deploying warplanes to the Turkish Incirlik base to fight Daesh, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.

"They (Saudi officials) came, did a reconnaissance of the base. At the moment it is not clear how many planes will come," Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was quoted as saying by the Yeni Safak and Haberturk newspapers after taking part in the Munich Security Conference.

The deployment is part of the US-led effort to defeat Daesh terrorist group, he added. Incirlik is a key hub for US-led coalition operations againstDaesh (ISIL/ISIS/IS).
The Foreign Minister also said that Turkey and Saudi Arabia could launch a ground operation against terrorists in Syria.

"If there is a strategy (against Daesh) then Turkey and Saudi Arabia could enter into a ground operation," Cavusoglu said.

"They (Saudi Arabia) said 'If necessary we can also send troops'. Saudi Arabia is showing great determination in the fight against terror in Syria," he added.


Earlier it was reported that Saudi Arabia was ready to send its special forces as part of US-led coalition.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the army loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and militant organizations, including Daesh terrorist group, which is banned in a number of countries, including Russia and the United States.

The US-led coalition of some 60 nations, including Saudi Arabia among others, has been launching airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since 2014. However, the operation in Syria is conducted without the approval of the UN Security Council or Syrian authorities.

Tehran has released provocative new photographs and video of the US sailors who were detained in the Persian Gulf hours before President Obama’s State of the Union Address last month, after they strayed into Iranian waters. The photos and video were aired on state television and shared to social media by Iranian reporters. Some of the images feature one of the sailors emotionally wiping away tears.

The day of the incident, photos were released of the sailors on their knees with their hands on their heads. There has also been a video released of one of the detained men apologizing for crossing into the country’s water. "I’m appreciative for the quick and appropriate response of the Iranian authorities," Secretary of State John Kerry said of the treatment of the sailors. "All indications suggest or tell us that our sailors were well taken care of, provided with blankets and food and assisted with their return to the fleet earlier today." Arizona Senator John McCain tweeted a photo of the sailors with their hands on their heads, condemning Kerry’s statement.

President Barack Obama had also expressed gratitude for the treatment the sailors received, drawing much criticism from Republican leaders and presidential candidates. "By the way, I don’t know if you saw these images—they are really horrifying, and it really made me really angry this morning to see,” Florida Senator and GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio said at a campaign stop in South Carolina following the incident. “American sailors, on their knees, hands behind their head, a female sailor forced to wear a headscarf, penned up in a jail cell. You know why these things happen? Because they know they can get away with it with Barack Obama in office. They know they can humiliate us. Now, look, this is not what you do." The Obama administration has not yet responded to the newly released photos.

Daesh and other terrorist groups have pulled back from their positions as the Syrian army, backed by the country's aviation and popular forces, continues its advance in several key provinces of the county. Government forces have regained control over several more areas in Dara'a, Deir ez-Zor, Hama, Homs and Aleppo provinces leaving dozens of militants dead and wounded, Iran’s Fars news agency reported on Friday.

In Dara’a province the Syrian Armed Forces clawed back more areas near Atman town, almost 4 kilometers north of Dara'a city, killing 30 terrorists and destroying their meeting centers equipped with heavy 23-mm machineguns. In Deir ez-Zor several militant strongholds were destroyed by missile fire as Syrian Army jets targeted two Daesh outposts east of Deir ez-Zor airport.

The militants suffered heavy losses, leaving scores of their fighters dead and wounded, informed sources on the ground were cited as saying by the agency. In Hama province around a dozen members of the Ajnad al-Sham Islamic Union militant group were killed as the Army and popular forces renewed their attacks on their positions in Kafr Zita town, north of Hama city.

One of the group’s top commanders was identified among the dead. The Syrisn Armed Forces have also made similar gains in central Homs province, killing a number of al-Nusra Front terrorists and severely degrading their military infrastructure and destroying much of their hardware.
In Aleppo province the Syrian Army, popular forces and allied Hezbollah units delivered food and medical supplies to the liberated Shiite towns of Nubl and al-Zahra. After Syrian Armed Forces and their allies entered the two towns, a convoy of humanitarian aid arrived there. Meanwhile, militant groups active north of Aleppo said that they were ready to fight alongside the government forces, Al Mayadeen television reported.
