Perhaps, majority of private vehicles on our roads would have been manufactured from 2010+ and not between 1998-2008 as we currently have.

You’re right. I remember in 2005-06 there are lot of 1999-2001 Camry every where. I just pray things can go back to how it used to be. Even if the dollar will be at 200 Naira

If course. Reason why the salvage market is booming here. In this country where people don't even have insurance on their cars, over there if u can't afford insurance then u can't own a car. A car that costs $4-5k clean title can be bought for less than $1,000 salvaged and u will spend less than $300 to fix whatever damage, thanks to used parts. The factory paints on some of these cars cost $2-5k dollars, reason why once u have a bad dent the value decreases so much at the salvaged market. But which cares about that one here, dabfo and okada will still scratch u. That suspension will still damage within a year, thanks to bad roads.

Now you see reason why it is good to get salvage here.... I insured my car with less than 60k a year... The remaining funds went to other Important issues... Money scarce in Nigeria and what most people want is just something that will move Us from Point A to B.... Reason Corolla is like Pure water in the Country..... Don't blame Us.. It's the condition we found ourselves

I am not talking about OP's car in particular, just saying clean title cars are not cheap, sometimes 4-6 times more expensive than the salvaged ones and really not favorable to dealers expect someone who actually knows the value makes a pre order. And I thought OP said 'one of the cars he picked there'.. I believe he wasn't talking about this particular corolla. If indeed the Corolla is clean title, 139k miles and 1 owner then the price is worth it.

I understand your point about the price of Clean Tittle cars.... I am sure 99% of those buying imported cars are buying the Salvaged.... I can't spend 4-5K$ on a 15 years old car....

Actually, the average price of a clean title 06 corolla with less than 130k miles, 1 or not more than 2 owners is around $4-5,000 excluding shipping (Some can even be as high as $6,000 trust me). This is why it is not a good business strategy for dealers to bring in clean title cars because they are going to stay long on the stand without someone buying them. It is only a few that understand the goodness of clean title cars and those ones are better off making the pre order themselves. Imagine 06 corolla for $5k, thats around 1.8m excluding shipping and clearing and by the time u add profile how much dealer want come sell am?

He said there was little impact on the car and that takes away the clean title from the Car..... It's dented

They have told you how much custom papers would cost, the real question is are you ready to foot that bill. The amount you paid for the vehicle is exorbitant.

You paid custom fees to Benin republic but ommitted that of Nigeria reason why paying real duty is cheaper at tin can than from Benin republic.

I don't really see the big difference between a 2003 corolla and a 2007 corolla maybe because we have 2 of them and I have weighed them side by side. The only difference I know is in CE with manual windows all the other corolla years are identical except sport which wears skirt join the leggings

You can search for videos of the 2 cars. It’s easier that way. You can get the videos on YouTube... The i4 engine in 2009 is 2.4ltr Same you can find in 2003-2005 Camry. But the 2010 is with 2.5 ltrs and they look differently

I tried importing this car from US through a popular Nairaland car dealer but the cost was even higher.

The prices range from 2.5-2.9 million.

If your Corolla is 06 then 2 Million Naira is too High by the time you add Custom Duty you're looking at 2.5 million Naira for 2006 Corolla.... in 2019

@ OP, I hope you know the difference between 2007/2008 Camry and the 2010/2011 model. Beware, some people will just upgrade the headlamps and tail lights and pass it off as 2010 model. VIN and engine configuration will guide you better...not just exterior pictures.

I'm sure the OP will not look at the Head and tail lights alone.... The engine is different from the 08-09 Engines.....

These particular generation has not been done though. I found for the former a Mazda engine and someone was talking about Honda k series engine. There are other reliable engines that would fit your manual transmission in a heartbeat but I don't know how easy it is to source them, am talking about the diesel engine fitted to the Hyundai getz.

I am actually interested in the swap because the car is damn cheap not because of resale value but the shitty engine most people don't wait for it to overheat or out of warranty before they dispose off of it

VIN check in Cotonou when the Lebanese, and the black Agent are standing on your neck.. You will drive the car for not up to 50 meters and I’m sure the gear won’t change up to gear 3 because everywhere is filled up of cars. I’ve been going to Cotonou car markets since 2008 so I know lot about their shady deals.

400-450 is the duty amount for 06 Corolla at the Lagos seaport. If you’re truly charged 250 please don’t drive that car to Ibadan or any road there is custom check point, if You do they will impound your car.

Cotonou provides you with the true meaning of Tokumbo. What you see is what you are getting not some refurbished salvage/lemon brand cars.

By the time you add the custom duty which is going to be very high than the one they charge at Lagos port, you will know that it’s not a good idea. Importing vehicle from Cotonou is illegal for now, The custom Duty may not be 100% genuine.

Go to OLX and to search for variety of cars... Don't be panic when the seller tell you that someone is coming to pay for the car tomorrow it is their way of making you buy with panic......Please make sure you take a good and trustworthy Mechanic along for pre-Piurchase Inspection.... I will Suggest you contact Gazzuzz,Diportivo,Heavenlybang... The 20k you will pay for inspection might save you hundreds of thousands of naira.... If i were you i will let them do the bargaining and all the paper works for me.... You won't regret it

Corolla is 1.8ltr engine and the Camry is 2.4ltr engine.. The Corolla consumes less fuel than the Camry... The camry engine is more powerful than the Corolla. But they’re 2 good cars if you get a good one and follow the manufacturers advice on maintenance

Car dealer did you read the year the OP mentioned 05 Corolla... If you have a tokunbo corolla for 1.2 then it’s either the car is from Cotonou and no duty was paid. Just don’t drive it on federal high way so that customs won’t impound your car.. Or the car is a stolen car.
