EducationSexual Harassment : Rivers Health School Extends Indicted Lecturer’s Suspension by Seeksnigeria(op): 1:52pm On Aug 16, 2021
The Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology has extended by three months, the suspension of its Head of Department, Dental Surgery, Princewill Chicakpobi for alleged sexual harassment against a student.

The College Provost, Prof Franklin Nlerum, who disclosed this to on Monday, said the suspension with effect from 5 August was based on the report of a panel of inquiry that indicted the lecturer for sexual harassment.

The school had earlier suspended Chikakpobi after mother of a female student had on 16 April raised alarm over alleged rape of her daughter by the said lecturer of the school.

Nlerum stated, “Based on the report of the Panel, a case of Sexual Harassment was established against one of the female students in the College.

“The College decided to extend the suspension order against Chikakpobi by another three months. Within this period also his appointment as Head of Department (HOD), Dental Health has been suspended.

He has been relieved as HOD of that office and placed on half salary throughout the period of his suspension, learnt.

The Provost however dismissed the earlier case of rape alleged by the affected student for lack of insufficient evidence to prove the allegation.

Nlerum explained that, “The student according to the panel was told to bring a report of medical test. She was unable to produce one. Based on that, the committee dismissed the allegation of rape.”

Related this news, the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE, has suspended, for 12 months without pay, Mr. Godwin Olai, a lecturer of the Department of Management effective 8 August, 2021, for attempted extortion on a student.

The Rivers state-owned varsity’s Staff Disciplinary Committee indicted Olai for demanding N70,000 from one of his undergraduate supervisees to write, type, and bind his project on the student’s behalf.

EducationI Almost Took My Life - Abia State University Fresher by Seeksnigeria(op): 6:35am On Aug 15, 2021
Osinachi Favour Udochukwu, a newly admitted student of Abia State University, has shared her life story of how she lost her mother years ago and it almost made her take her own life.

Below is her short story to :

I’m supposed to be in my finals or a graduate by now, this is 6yrs I graduated from secondary school.

What happened?

Firstly, I’m dedicating this post to all aspirants, to those that have given up on admission, those that are already weak and tired.

Sis, bro, delay ain't denial …

My delay in admission ain’t Jamb, it’s a mystery.

I lost my mum in my SS2, it affected every thing about me, my mental health and co, To crown it all she left a baby of 8months in my care.

When I graduated from secondary school, the only calls I kept receiving was “Hey babe, I’ve gained admission”

I hated my life, I hated myself, I tried committing suicide so many times but my little sis eyes kept hindering me.

I used to be the best student in my school, but situations really affected me that if I sit to read, it will be as if I’ll run mad.

I stayed at home for complete four years before I took my first jamb, I felt life wasn’t complete without me being in school.

Story cut short, today am an official student of ABSU.

I felt depressed, frustrated and hated this world but then, God’s time is the best.

Do your best and leave the rest for God, He knoweth the best.

Happy matriculation to me and all ABSU Freshers, she told

The federal government has been advised to as a matter of urgency license security outfits guarding Universities campuses nationwide to carry arms for the adequate protection of both human and material resources within the institutions.

The National President, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim suggested this why briefing newsmen during the union’s regular zonal executive council (ZEC) meeting at the Ugbowo campus of the University of Benin, Edo State.

According to , he said, with the current security situation bedevilling the nation, the government is expected to quickly develop plans to retrain universities security personnel on arms handling as that may presently be the only option for the safety of both academic, non-academic staff as well as students while on campus.

He said carrying of arms by security men was becoming inevitable on campuses as that could be the only way to deny the hoodlums access to schools to unleash mayhem.

“The federal government should give legal backing for our security officers to carry arms in case of an attack.

“We are saying this because our community as Universities is no longer safe to move around the campuses and even those staying outside have similar issues, our security outfit is managed either by ex-army or police officers so they are not new to these tactics but we are handicapped.

“You see the way these criminals come into our campuses kidnapping our members and collecting ransom very freely undeterred, it is alarming.

JSS1 student suspended for alleged indiscipline sues Ekiti govt, seeks N15m damages

After being suspended from school for alleged indiscipline and her parents’ assault on teachers, a JSS1 student of Mary Immaculate Secondary School , Ado Ekiti, Gift Agenoisa, has sued the Ekiti State Government, seeking N15 million damages for breach of fundamental rights.

In suit number HAD/01/CR/2021 sworn to at the Ado Ekiti High Court, on her behalf by Mrs Odunayo Agenoisa, she claimed that her suspension from school by government after her parents allegedly beat up some teachers for punishing her for indecent dressing and gross indiscipline, infringed on her rights.

The plaintiff described as cruel and inhuman, the alleged treatment meted to her for coming to school with the indecent hairstyle.

Joined in the suit are: The School Principal, Mrs Oluwasanmi F.M (first respondent); the Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye(second respondent); the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission(third respondent); and the Ekiti State Government (fourth respondent).

In the affidavit attached to the originating summons, the plaintiff claimed that she was singled out of assembly on May 22, 2021, and given 20 lashes of the cane on the order of the school principal for alleged indecent hairstyle.

In her originating summons deposed to by her counsel, Mr Timmy Omotoso, and brought pursuant to Order 2 rules 1,3,4,5 and 6 of the fundamental rights enforcement procedure rules 2009 as preserved by Section 315 of the 1999 constitution, the applicant demanded N15 million damages for her suspension.

She also demanded her immediate reinstatement back to school with unfettered access to all services being rendered therein.

The plaintiff claimed that the beating she got that day resulted in bruises, life-threatening scars and bloodstains on her uniform, adding that she fainted and was rushed to the police clinic in Ado Ekiti, where she was resuscitated.

She claimed further that her letters of protest to the wife of the Ekiti State Governor and some relevant government agencies were not responded to, hence, her resorting to legal action to seek redress.

The plaintiff added that she was being denied access to the school premises and her class on the order of the principal since then.

Meanwhile, the case which came up before Justice Lekan Ogunmoye of the Ekiti State High Court, on Thursday, was adjourned to September 22 for hearing.

On May 22, the plaintiff’s father, also a Police Sergeant, Elijah Agenoisa, allegedly mobilized four armed policemen to the school to manhandle some teachers for scolding his daughter for coming to school with an indecent hairdo against the school rules and regulation.

Consequently, the school suspended his daughter and the Ekiti State Police Command had allegedly queried the policeman, the result of which is unknown.
