I've enjoyed reading this. I'm pro-choice and the presentation from LASU does nothing to change my stance. Here's why: The main argument of the essay is that abortion is unacceptable because one life is not more important than another. So, according to the LASU presenter, it dosent matter if a pregnancy resulting from rape prevents a girl from pursuing her dream of university education or if a woman is told she'll die if she tries to deliver the child, she must go through with it because her life is not more important than the baby's. This thinking is flawed. Since the baby's life and the mother's are of equal value, the mother shouldnt have to risk her life to deliver the baby. So, to ask the mother to go through with the pregnancy at great risks to herself is to give more value to the baby's life. More importantly, people dont just get abortions because they like it, no. It's a response to a problem; namely, an unwanted pregnancy or one(a pregnancy) that puts the mother at great risk. The essay condems abortion as a solution but does not give us alternatives. So, do we just ignore the problem and the consequences therein for the society?(Several of these consequences have been mentioned in the pro-choice essay). Frankly, the presentation does not reflect the complexity surrounding the issue. This is demonstrated when the writer dismissed the ardous and financially tasking job of raising children as, a child simply 'needing food and time'. What about education, affection, shelter, security, etc Is food itself easy to come by? So, basically, the presenter wants more children to be born but doesnt care what kind of life these children live economically, socially and emotionally. Also, it dosent seem like the presenter have given much thought to their position. Infact, one gets the impression that they are simply repeating what they've been told. PS This is disorganised, once you start typing on this phone, it is hard to go back to edit. Also, I have focused more on what has not been said than what was. |
Fembleez1:I have. I hope you're doing thesame. |
THE Council of Legal Education has rated the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, the best in the country, based on the cumulative performance of its students in the 2014 Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School... According to the committee’s report, students from the University of Ilorin Law Faculty beat those of other universities in the Bar Examinations. Other universities in the top five categories are the University of Lagos (second), the University of Ibadan (third), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (fourth) and the University of Uyo/Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (fifth). In the 2012 and 2013 Bar Final Examinations, the University of Ilorin consistently came second. And apart from the University of Lagos that has closely run neck-to-neck with UNILORIN in the last three years, coming fifth in 2012, and third in 2013, no other university appeared consistently on the Top 5 table in the three years under review. For instance, Babcock University that led the pack in 2012 has not returned to the top 5 since then. Fembleez1:Sorry it has taken me forever to respond. Yes, I think I passed too(I had 253). Thanks for the info about UI, but I've settled for Unilorin. The law faculty there is brilliant but underrated. |
I need info on UI post-utme. Will all candidates take the same subjects for the exam or will it depend on each candidate's chosen course? Which subjects will you take for law and which will you take for civil engineering? And what's the scoring system? Pls and thanks |
Fembleez1:Hope you passed bro, I need your help |
alhafis:Good Morning. Pls, I need info on UI post-utme. Will all candidates take the same subjects for the exam or will it depend on each candidate's chosen course? Which subjects will you take for law and which will you take for civil engineering? And what's the scoring system? |
Fembleez1:Thanks. When is your exam? Mine is on Friday. |

Shit. Thanks. All those hours wasted reading the wrong books. What do i do now? Read summaries and read some again, I guess. Thanks |
Fembleez1:Where is the post? Did you delete it? |

what the Igbos are doing for themselves all over Nigeria, and beyond is admirable, enviable and worth emulating. But dont act like you're doing anyone a favour. The arrangement enriches only you. What sort of an economy is it if the natives/citizens are excluded. Perhaps, Igbos leaving is exactly the wake-up call we need. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/sunday/index.php/global-connection/17962-yorubas-need-new-money-2 |
Stupid ignorant moralists with their irrational fear and hate of homosexuals. The presence of gay does not cause inflation or cause you to lose your job. It dosent affect you in anyway so I wonder why you have a problem with it. |
SonOfEl:What percentage of Igbos voted MKO, do you have any real stat? We got compensation because we fought for it, not because an Igbo man was Chairman of the Electoral Commision. And what do you mean something Yorubas could never do? After the death of Yar Adua, who led the mass movement to get Jonathan sworn in as President? And did Jonathan not win in the South West in 2011? Yorubas voted ACN on state level and voted Jonathan for President. |
SonOfEl:Tell me how Awo screwed it. Tell me. Silly stereotype. Remember June 12? Yorubas faced the wrath of the millitary devil alone and suffered greatly. Many of our prominent citizens were killed and many more fled the country. But we didnt back down and we were "compensated". The two candidates for the 1999 Presidential election were Yorubas. We are not afraid to get confrontational when we need to. But it's smarter not to commit fully to any side, especially since neither benefits us. If the North lose this election, you guys stand to face the brunt of the North's fury. Yet, as many as half of our population might be anti-north and the country could be still be divided. |
SonOfEl:Check out Nigeria's history and see how our region out-paced all other in the country during and before the 1st republic, when we had some measure of self-government. I hope Jonathan wins the next election and the north make good on their threat to destabilise, and consequently split the country. Au revoir forever |
SonOfEl:Whatever that means. I'm a crazy patriot. I would love it if Igbos and people of other nationalities left and we formed a country with, say, 99% Yoruba majority. But the fact of the matter is that, even if Nigeria was to split, those people of foreign nationalities who live in Lagos and other parts of Yorubaland have already built their lives in Yoruba country and would probably not leave, so we'dl have to tolerate and accept them. But if anyone leaves, it's their loss. You arent doing us any favours, you get employment in our land and your businesses survive on Yoruba patronage. This is just like Nigeria saying if it dosent sell oil to America, then America will collapse. Crazy, right? Nigeria is actually the one in need of the money and there are many more alternatives for the state. Worse, the United States itself is sitting on great oil reserves, exports oil and is even starting to meet a significant proportion of its domestic oil needs independently. |
Fembleez1:Pls do and let me know what you find. |
Fembleez1:I dont have the resources to share snapshot. However, I have checked the syllabus I got upon registration and it says what I've said. You should check it too if you're still in doubt. |
Fembleez1:Sorry, but I dont have the resources to share snapshots. However, I have checked JAMB's syllabus given to me after registration and it says what I've said. You should check the syllabus too or search the internet to confirm. I dont think they can set new questions for all of us when we're all taking CBT, so it makes sense if they go back to old ones. |
laykorn:Thanks. |
Fembleez1:Uh, it is. Check the 2015\16 syllabus, it's thesame as that of 2013\14. |
Fynestboi:Hi! What about the poem "In the Navel of the Soul" by Kobina Eyi Acquah? Do you have the text? Pls, share if you do. |
how do I join? |
What's the best way to prove Lagos is not "no man's land"? We get a country of our own and see if all non Yorubas wont need a visa or some other form of certification with strigent rules to get there. As long as we are Nigerians, we wont be able to protect what is ours or develop at the pace we should. Support a Yoruba country, forget these silly and unproductive arguments |
Congratulations to all Igbos who believe in a country for Igbos Most Yorubas on Nairaland dont know what they want. They complain bitterly about Nigeria and yet antagonise those who seek to split it into workable units. Support a country for all of us Yorubas and stop being stewpeed. |

This is awesome, cool, nice, intereting, laudable, legendary, eye-opening, progressive, worth encouraging, brilliant but not surprising. This is how institutions should operate |
