Ikengawo: Lets be honest, most nigerians don't pay taxes of any form. The most consistent tax payers are shop owners, but 9 out of 10 nigerians don't pay taxes. Our government is funded by oil and customs tariffs. So my question is why do nigerians panic when they hear their state or federal government has borrowed money? When Americans complain it's because it's coming out of their pocket and they will have to pay for the debt with their paycheck. But Nigerians don't pay income tax, they seldom pay property tax and the majority doesn't own property. If the government borrows what does it concern you? It's oil that you don't drill that will pay for it so why the panic? You got it wrong pls... Everybody pays tax in Nigeria one way or the other, when we talk about income tax, VAT and other levies collected especially by the local government. If you carry out your research well you'll see that everyone pays tax in Nigeria. |

xpizzy: I got a letter from NB on the 31st of DEC saying I would be informed abt the next Step of the process. They didn't say I was successful or otherwise. Anyone with similar caseI've got a similar case too...don't know how long twill take to wait though! |
naptu2: If I don't get banned by pyguru, then I'll post the articles in full. The Kenya case is apt. But what makes these phones so special that they can't use the regular phones some of the farmers use or ask those without phones to go and get a new phone (at least a good rugged phone could be obtained for as low as N2500). I smell 'rotten fish' in this their project, because I don't think they've mapped-out an effective strategy on the use of the phones. A major blunder committed by the minister is not knowing the cost of the project... That's a shame on him. |
FG not spending N60bn on mobile phones for farmers —MinisterMr minister N6000 X 10,000,000 = N60,000,000,000 (that's 60BILLION Naira) Even the youngest girl in my house JSS1 won't get it wrong. “But we have not even taken any decision. I can, however, tell you six reasons why the rural farmer mobile initiative is being sponsored by the Federal Government. Are the farmers going to download the fertilizers? Is it not the same government people that have been diverting the fertilizers meant for farmers? And how sure are we that these phones are going to stop the diversion. The phones aren't going to solve this problem. What should have been done is create effective/efficient distribution channels most likely through registered cooperative societies set up by the farmers. The second is to ensure financial inclusion by linking the rural farmers directly to banks for farm subsidies and others. How are the phone meant to enhance access to subsidies. The first thing to do is register all farmers, keep their records in a database that can be accessible to banks. Pronto, using the regular phones, the banks can get across to the farmers. “The third is to enable farmers to get extension services information which they presently have no access to one.Good point, you need to call them etc but a Nokia phone worth N2500 can serve the same purpose. If you say you want to send mails, how many farmers in the villages are literate enough to operate such (in a country where literacy level is low). The solution here is to train extension workers who will arrange meetings with or get information across to the cooperative societies set up by the farmers. “Fourth is to create alert channel to farmers in cases of flood and draughtSame as point three. However, the mass media can serve the same purpose effectively. Who says only farmers need warning on impending floods. and, lastly, we want farmers to have access to market information for better returns on their produce,” the minister said. This is better done when the farmers come together to form associations and cooperative societies. It is a laudable thing to feel concerned about farmers welfare and productivity. However, this should be thought right. Good roads are needed to transport produce from farm to market, efficient storage facilities that will ensure farm produce are preserved and made available all year round is necessary. Dedicated officers that will not abuse the agricultural subsidies as it's being currently done in the petroleum sector are needed. When I was in secondary school (well, you can say the syllabus in use then is now aoutdated) I was taught the most effective and efficient ways of reaching farmers is through cooperative societies. I implore government to encourage farmers to do this and whoever does not have access to cooperative societies should have strategically located offices where they can go. I'm trying very hard, not to believe this is not another project design to further loot Nigeria's depleted treasury. |
Is it when we forget everything they taught us at the training that they'd call us? |

ol2012: Av u spoken wit ur contact lately? Some1 on anoda thread claimed he was told d interview may b in batches. Could u pls confirm dat from ur contact? Thanks.Same the contact told me but I refuse to believe that. When I called a week after I had dropped my CV, the contact confirmed my name to be among those to be invited for interview but I later learnt they've conducted interview for my department without inviting me. The bother is 'do they conduct interview to the same department twice?' |

ol2012: Really! Dat means we should xpect 2 b cald any moment from now. Thanks so much 4 ur response. But when exactly were they(academic applicants) invited 4 interview? Those of us (academics) who scored above 50% in d 2nd test and were requested to submit our CV+ application were not invited for interview. Its just for me to hear they've scattered the list & conducted interview for other people in August but funny enough, the school is saying we shd still wait that they'd still call us that the interview is in batches. |
Are84: i dont tink d protest took place.....I heard the protest took place but turnout was low. A colleague who was @ the protest on Friday at alausa said they met some ppl (not sure who they really met) and they were told the list has been given to Gov Fashola, and they're merely waiting for his consent. I think if the turnout @ the protest was high, they would av commanded attention and receive a definite response |
Oxford Tvs: Those willing to take up this opportunity can contact me on: oxfordtravels01@gmail.comThanks for this priceless information, may God bless you. I've heard that to obtain student visa especially to UK, one of the requirements is that a certain amount of money (that will cover the fees & living expenses) must have been in one's account for some time. I want to know if the same thing applies to obtaining the German visa, and I'd appreciate if you can provide other requirements to obtaining the German visa. I have an MSc in Microbiology and wish to go there for my PhD. Though I applied for some scholarships but wasn't successful in the applications. |
Mildblue: Who said the strike has been suspended?Lagos teachers suspend strike, resume today September 26, 2012 | 2:01 am News BY MONSUR OLOWOOPEJO National Union of Teachers, NUT, Lagos Chapter, yesterday suspended its indefinite strike embarked upon over the non-payment of the 27.5 per cent Teachers Salary Scale, TSS. The teachers instead of resuming for work on Monday, the first day of the new academic year, embarked on an indefinite strike to demand for immediate payment of the new salary scale. After a meeting which commenced at about 5:00 p.m. yesterday and held behind closed doors between officials of the NUT and the delegation from the Lagos State Government, the call off of the strike was announced. The state government team which was led by the Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola, also had in attendance the Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pension: Mrs. Florence Oguntuase, Commissioner for Education: Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, the state Head of Service, HoS, Mr. Adesegun Ogunlewe. The NUT officials, who came in their large number to the meeting, were led by the state Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu. Speaking after the meeting, Idowu said “the state council of the NUT has met after the meeting and we have agreed that the strike should be suspended immediately. And that we should all return to work tomorrow (September 26, 2012)” On the reason why they suspended the strike despite government not meeting their demands, Idowu said; “the Governor has intervened and has assured us that our TSS will be included in the 2013 budget. “During the meeting, the Governor appealed to us passionately that we should return to work.” www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/lagos-teachers-suspend-strike-resume-today/ |

Yes get 15 copies of your application letter + CV & attach copies of ur credentials to just 3 copies ( of the 15) of ur application letter, proceed to d registrar's office to submit. However, when you get there, find every means to get the date for interview; this is because there is massive fraud in the recruitment process Many of us in the academic cadre who scored above 50% in d second test were called to submit our CV, we did and were waiting for invitation for interview only to hear after some time that some different set of people have been interviewed already. This was after the contact that sent the invite to submit CV confirmed my name was on the list of those to be interviewed. |
Those guys are crooks. They once contacted me like that, & me thinking it was a true offer told my friends to come & apply. Fortunately for me, one of my friends had already been duped; that was my saving grace. I think they get the details from the corpers year book. |

They make you waste credible time & cause your brain burn unnecessary ATP with a so-called test that they know will never be used in the recruiting process. Then they give a long & boring lecture before they tend to open up. Even at that, they don't open up completely...
