Brilliant post. Not sure I agree with you it's a NAIJA MENTALITY. Instead I'll say it's a Super Eagles Mentality cos our junior teams. . .Holland 2005, Beijing 2008, and U-17's (Tella's and Obuh's) and even Siasia's Egypt 2009 U-21's didn't/don't play this way. They were very combative, full of running, closed down spaces and marked their opponents. I don't know why it's different with the Senior team. Let me add as well how our full backs were constantly being sucked to the centre when they don't need to and then leaving an opposition player to stay wide which the Argentines did not exploit enough.Very true! |

The Argentine team that played us today isn't much different from their Olympics team and they didn't completely outplay, peg and dominate us then like they did today. 3/4 of the time, we were just chasing shadows. Having said this. . .there are too many fundamental flaws in our game. - We play at a very slow pace - We don't close down spaces of opponents - We unconsciously fall back, defend too deep in our own half and easily concede dictating the game to our opponents as if we're content with chasing the ball. . . .as in, we just don't fight and battle for the control of the midfield. WE ALWAYS CONCEDE IT TO OUR OPPONENTS. - Our players don't make runs and position themselves off the ball - We only mark opposing players when they're with the ball and don't close them down on time etc etc etc I nor just understand. Shey na just Naija mentality or our players are too old and lack the physical fitness to play an intense fast-paced pressure type of football? |

Word of advice Please do not post long threads with your pink colored fonts. They're not pleasant to the eyes and makes reading difficult. |
mikeansy:Gbam! Gbam and Gbam! Me thinks our defenders (the back four) did well. It was the midfield anchored by Haruna and Etuhu that caused so much trouble for our defence. Messi just kept strolling thru' the midfield with his runs due to the inefficiency of Etuhu. PLAYING ETUHU IN DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD AND KAITA IN RIGHT MIDFIELD IS EFFECTIVELY PLAYING SHORT-TWO. Any Coach who doesn't know this is a douche-bag and should be sacked immediately. |
chidichris:You call the lackadaisical and lazy way the players marked and ran about the field without any sense of urgency commitment? Did you by any chance watch the USA vs England game or Uruguay vs France? chidichris:And what was the result of this? We played better and equalized shey? Nonsense!!! chidichris:Crap! What exactly did we employ Lagerback for? To reduce the margins of our losses or what? It's not losing that's painful but the way we lost (without battling and fighting) We made it too easy for Argentina. . .Scoreline could have easily read 5 nil if not for Enyeama. chidichris:He was OK but definitely not great chidichris:I was the one who posted that comment. . . .I'm not a fan like you but his presence in midfield with Haruna would have given our team more traction going forward and would've eased the pressure on our defense. WE definitely needed someone like Mikel in today's game. chidichris:Great game for Argentina. . .Bad game for Nigeria |
The fact is. . . . . . . FAGmodu is a simpleton. If you meet him in your world of kparakpoism, tell him a certain Sauron said so.
And Lagerback is a genius right? Even Amodu's worst team wouldn't have been outplayed and completely dominated today. |
maedan:Ore, I hope you're not talking to me cos I nor just dey in the mood o. Hope you read that Memo to all the females Nor just vex me pass as Super Eagles don do o. . . just enter Nairaland kitchen, bedroom or Boutique find your level and leave we men to our footie discussion ![]() |
I don't even want a coach who thinks Etuhu is our best option for DM and Kaita's is most effective as a 7. Even Ajagun or Azeez from U-17 would have done a better job than Etuhu did today. What rubbish! Argentina just dey take us do middle man today like se na dem carry us come field and people dey talk se we played well and the team is an improvement on Amodu's. . . Nonsense!! Make Lagerback just pack him bag begin dey waka after this world cup. We're better off rebuilding with our own since most of these bunch won't dream of going to Brazil 2014. . .Samson Siasia!!! |
honeric01:TRUE!! I was willing to give Lagerback the benefit of the doubt but I'm afraid he hasn't justified his N30M salary with what I saw today. There was absolutely no difference between Lagerback's team and Amodu's team @ AFCON 2010. I dare say Amodu would have even gotten us a better result today. The Argentine team that played us today isn't much different from their Olympics team and they didn't completely outplay and dominate us then like they did today. Lagerback no be AM jare. Make NFF employ Siasia immediately after the World cup so we can start preparing for 2014. The future looks bright with the likes of Abduljeleel Ajagun, Ramon Azeez, Fortune Chukwudi, Lukman Haruna, Rabiu Ibrahim, Obiora Nwankwo, Ahmed Musa etc. |
See how USA is defending, contesting and fighting resolutely for every ball. . . .this is what I expected from our Eagles, not to admire Messi and watch the Argentine players stream passes upon passes together. |
Super Eagles were $h!t against Argentina. |
As I expected Lagerback got the starting-11, formation and positional play wrong. The writings were right on the wall with his 23-man team selection when he left out players like Ike Uche, Ajilore, Anichebe (for false reasons) and taking liability players Kanu, Utaka and Ayila who are obviously going to warm the bench and are not good enough to start (and look very unlikely to make even substitute appearances), His team is unbalanced and skewed towards strikers with very little Midfielders (An amphibious and workaholic midfielder like Ajilore should have been used to replace Mikel. . .a like for like replacement and not Ideye who is a striker. . .Does it look like Ideye is ever going to play in this competition?) Of what use is playing a piss poor player like Etuhu in the Defensive Midfield and wasting Sanni Kaita on the outside right where he contributes nothing to the team going forward? when Sanni Kaita would have been more effective had he played as a DM? Why keep an explosive, workaholic and pacy player like Osaze on the bench and start with a lazy and 20 minutes noodles player like Obasi? Frankly, I think Amodu would have done a better job had he been allowed to stay and lead the team to SA cos he showed a remarkable learning curve in Angola. First two matches he started with Yobo, Nwaneri and Etuhu and benched them subsequently and replaced them with Apam, Shittu and Kaita when they didn't perform as expected). Lagerback claims to have watched the tapes of the Eagles so it baffles me how he thinks right-midfield is the best position for Kaita? It's just insane I mean. How did he come to that conclusion?. . .He has by this decision weakened the team further by dulling the attacks that could have come from that wing and creating a large hole in midfield cos Dickson Etuhu is NOT JUST IT. . .despite his Fulham status. Certain players (Yakubu, Odiah, Taiwo have obviously improved and upped their game) but I don't see any improvement in the team as a whole. It's still the same of the same without any distinguishable pattern. . .Lets just kick the ball around and if we're lucky score. There is no link between the midfield and attack. . .static play, little or no movements off the ball. . .etc etc etc. Those who think we can beat Korea are obviously in dreamland. Wake up and smell the coffee. . .I see a first round exit starring us in the face. This was almost the Argentine team that Siasia played in Beijing and they didn't outplay & completely dominate us like they did today. Thank God for Enyeama who saved us and kept the scoreline respectable. It was a big, big mistake sacking Amodu I'm tired of Lagerback already. . .he should just go after the World cup so we can employ Siasia who understands our boys, knows their strengths and weaknesses and would never play them out of position. Laerback has not justified his N30 million salary with what I saw today. I rest my case. . .the future of the Super Eagles is Samson Siasia and not Lagerback |
12large:Will you please shut the f.c#ck up and stop disgracing your folks with your imbecilic utterances!!! Dundee united!!! |
Lagerback should remove Etuhu, bring in Osaze and move kaita to DM. |
I miss Mikel. |
