I done hear you. At least make local share still remain and fix bot issues before trying to attract external users
I don't think S.e.u.n ever intended to remove the local share. I suspect the feature was being worked on when it disappeared. Now it appears the feature has been perfected and is now dual-purpose (local and external), and is working perfectly on PC and mobile.

On mobile browser, when you click on the share button, it automatically shares locally, and other external share options pop up from your phone.

On PC or desktop mode, when you click the share button, it shares locally with a drop down menu popping up to share to Whatsapp, Telegram, Twitter and facebook

As per the spambot, na that one I no know. Moderation no be black and white. It requires human nuance, interpretation, comprehension and understanding, something I don"t think an AI bot is capable of........but make we see as e go be.

Ibime:
External traffic that will be banned by Spambot soon as they make an innocent post and immediately leave due to the poor user experience with Spambot?

It's obvious (as he has admitted) that Seun is not a regular user of Nairaland

What pictures or videos does Nairaland host that anyone will want to share externally? Nairaland is a text based site and simple copy of the URL is all that's needed if you want to copy a thread to a friend. Besides a key feature of Nairaland is anonymity which you lose by sharing posts

The owner of this site needs to open a burner account and use it regularly as a normal user ( not a mod) instead of abandoning it for Elon app. If he knew his user experience, I'm sure he will not make all these decisions we are seeing

Share externally ke, as if na video or picture
I know the numerous bans and blocked posts from the AI bot has contributed to your vexation but please calm down, and try to see the bigger picture.

Now make I address the issues wey you don raise.

According to NCC, Nigeria has about 107 million active internet users. Nairaland has 3.2 million registered members, and just recently, Statisense reported that NL is the 4th most visited Nigerian website with 10.83 million visits. But when you compare that with how long NL has been around (since 2005), way before the current top three websites, the numbers are piss poor. For a platform that has been in existence for 20 years, NL should have a far better reach.

Also. from my interactions with Gen Zs in my line of work, many of them no even sabi Nairaland. But these same people dey TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. And the reality is that NL cannot grow without attracting Gen Zs. That’s why this new share button makes sense. Unlike the old way that only shared posts within NL and only URLs externally, this one lets people share posts within NL, and send both URL and post content directly to WhatsApp, Twitter, Telegram, and Facebook, which is a smart move to improve visibility and traffic.

Yes, NL is primarily text-based but make you no dey talk like say no one go wan share NL content. Real life stories, personal experiences, expert opinions. professional advice, political commentaries etc emanating from NL are posted elsewhere. I’ve seen Nairaland posts on WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, Telegram and even get quoted in blogs and newspapers. So the idea that because it’s not video or picture, nobody go share NL content no follow..

Lastly, sharing ≠ losing anonymity. I have used the feature to share a post to myself on whatsapp and nobody’s identity was exposed. The shared post appeared as posted by Ibime on NL. We're all using monickers so wetin be the fuss about this anonymity? Has sharing Ibime's post unravelled his identity to me? No! I am still as clueless as I have always been about him. In fact, this one na just unfounded paranoia and no follow at all.

You’re right about the spambot being frustrating though, but that’s a different issue entirely. Despite the inaccurate AI bot, NL still needs proper sharing tools and better visibility for content. Both things can exist together and one doesn’t cancel the other.

Most people opposed to this new share feature, na status quo bias dey worry them. Change isn't always easy but sometimes it's the exact thing that's needed to move forward.

I don't think it's a bad move, the share and like buttons seemed to overlap in function, and the ease of sharing posts outside Nairaland means people can introduce external traffic to the site a little more easily.
Thank you. NL needs external traffic and this is a step in the right direction.

So... If you are browsing this site from your phone the share option shares outside nairaland.

If you are browsing this site from your pc, the normal share option is available.
True. The simple fix is to switch between mobile and desktop view in your mobile browser depending on where you want to share a post.

GloriousGbola:
You are a mod on this platform so you know how it goes. Fp is full of made up stories with a goal of bashing women.

Unfortunately Seun has allowed this to happen so now I take any of these stories with a handful of salt.

Now we have an anonymous poster creating a thread where he claims he has lived in the UK for three years.

He has never lived or worked in America so where is he getting the term dime from. Brits use the word Pence for coins.

There are usually little things you can use to catch people lying. Like when people in us say they are using panadol (it is called Tylenol in the US)

Most importantly appliances like dishwashers and washing machines are not that expensive can be bought on credit and will immediately make life easier for the family. Within Nigeria people can say it is for the wealthy but in the west it is just a standard home appliance like a fridge or an iron

The story reads to me like one of those stories with a clear goal of demonizing women

Unfortunately poster has deliberately failed to add crucial info like what work he or his wife does.

I also find the story hard to believe because they are supposedly in the UK and have not found their feet. Any man in Nigeria will tell you that naija women play the game of my salary is for me, your salary is for the family. But they can afford to do that over here. No fresh immigrant family in the uk can afford to do that. Selfishness cannot trump reality.
I understand that some stories on NL may be made up but let’s not be quick to dismiss people’s real experiences just because they don’t fit a certain narrative.

Now about the word dime, I find your arguement ridiculous. You dey talk like say people no dey mix slangs these days. With social media, music, movies and all, it’s very normal for a NIGERIAN migrant in the UK to use American terms. Na today? And I still insist that the word was used more in the figurative context, and not literal. Anyways, the use of the word no mean say the story na lie, and it's a weak point to build your dismissal of the OP's post on

On appliances like washing machines and dishwashers, yes they’re standard in most UK homes, and not particularly expensive but you’re missing the actual point of the post which is that the OP isn’t angry about appliances, he’s upset about the principle of financial imbalance in the home. Whether it’s Nigeria or the UK, when both partners work and one person is shouldering all the financial burden while the other holds back, frustration and discontentment will set in. It’s not about whether they can buy a dishwasher or not, it’s about the wife not contributing financially at all to the home & family expenses.

Now, it's true that we don’t know exactly what jobs either of them do, but that doesn't invalidate his concerns. In fact, it raises more questions about transparency in their relationship. If you’ve relocated to a country like the UK, settling down financially takes teamwork, especially in the early years. No one should be forming my money is my money in a house where bills are piling up and one person is drowning in them. The idea that Naija women can afford to do that in Nigeria but not in the UK is part of the point the OP is making that his wife is behaving as if she’s still in Nigeria, expecting him to handle everything. That’s why he’s frustrated.

Lastly, let’s not throw around bashing women every time a man shares a negative experience in his marriage. People should be able to speak up when things aren’t working in their relationship, and others should be able to offer advice or different perspectives without being accused of pushing an agenda. The same empathy accorded to women who share stories of lazy, entitled men should be given to men who are sincerely confused and tired too.

someone claims to be in the uk but is still mixing up American and British currency
claim you do dishes when dishwaher can be bought cheaply

gerraria hia with your rd pill engagement

a man in based in uk coming to nairaland to look for advice from small boy incels who dont have gf
No be na wa, na real wa for you.

The OP shared an issue that's affecting his marriage, and instead of addressing that concern you picked on a word in his post, a word that he used in a figurative context, and went off tangent to talk about american and british currencies and dishwashers.

No be everyone for UK get dishwasher, and even if they do, a dishwasher still requires human input cos someone has to load the dishes, add detergent and unload it at the end, so na still work.

OP clearly said he helps with the household chores on top of carrying all the financial weight so that should count for something. Mocking him and accusing him of farming redpill engagements is not only unhelpful but disrespectful. Granted many juveniles dey NL but so are many experienced married folks whose advice he could benefit from. Sometimes people post their issues on NL to gain another perspective. and I believe the OP will be able to sift the sound advice from the chaff.

To the original poster, assuming your story is true, you are not being unreasonable. Marriage is supposed to be a partnership. If you’re both working, it’s fair to expect some level of shared financial responsibility, especially when you’ve already carried major burdens like relocating and repaying loans on your own.

If private conversations haven’t helped, you should consider couples counseling with a professional. I repeat, a PROFESSIONAL. Sometimes having a neutral third party can help couples see things more clearly and break through the deadlock. Just make sure you continue to express yourself clearly, calmly, and without bottling things up.

But if after all efforts there’s still no willingness from her to shift or even acknowledge how much this is affecting you, then you may need to ask yourself some hard questions about what kind of future you want and whether this version of the marriage is sustainable.

Your peace of mind matters too.

Seeing Sundowns dominate possession against a 2nd level top Euro side like Dortmund is not surprising. This is how they play. They believe in having the ball and pinging it around till they find a crack.

Ulsan suffered in that first game... Sundowns played them off the park. Na speed counters or turnovers in possession give Ulsan chance at Sundowns' goal.

At the last Afcon, South Africa also held more of the ball against us.
Even in our WCQ they dominated possession in the first half, and made us resort to long balls.

SA/Mamelodi Sundowns is damn good in possession.

That Daddy Freeze interview with Victor Osimhen is powerful. Listening to Osimhen recount the struggles he and his family went through brought tears to my eyes.

His parents were so poor and lived in a single room with his six older siblings, and his mother was pregnant with him, the seventh child.

She was so worried because of the lack, and at some point someone told her, “The same Lord who has helped you raise your six children so far will help you with this one too.”

That statement made me reflect, and I think I now understand why many poor people have many kids. The chances that at least one might breakthrough and change the family’s story are higher with more kids.

Victor has done right by his family.

At this point. na only social media apps like IG, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook be NL competitors.,and thats because the Gen Z's are more into them.

Recently, I chatted one of my students and the talk got around to NL (See attached screenshots) and I realized that for Nairaland to grow, it needs to capture the GenZ's, and I don't know how that can be achieved with the virality, popularity, stardom and money making possibilities that tiktok, IG, twitter and facebook offers to them.

Whoever succeeds PBAT should make it a priority to reinstate the Arise O Compatriots anthem. Hardly anyone knows or connects with Nigeria We Hail Thee. It's a relic of our colonial past and does not resonate with the generality of Nigerians.

Also, national monuments, institutions, roads, and other public assets that have been renamed after the president should be returned to their original names. Governance should not be reduced to sycophancy and self-glorification.

Leadership is about service and not about forcing your name into the history books. Do your best, leave your mark through your works, and let the people decide your legacy.
