Nairaland / General / Have You Mistakenly Took Voter's Card Instead Of ATM Card To ATM Point Before ? by SenatorJames(m): 12:10am On Jul 30, 2021
I have heard stories of how people mistakenly took voters card to ATM point to withdraw instead of ATM card, it happens to me yesterday. I have many cards like ATM, Voter's card, business cards in my wallet, without paying much attention I just pick something and zoom out, one part of my mind was telling me to take my wallet along another said I should just go like that since I won't need it. Lo and behold I was on the queue for an hour before it reached my turn only for me to dip my hand into my pocket and find out I was actually with my voters card. At that time thousand of thoughts were running through my mind; whether to go back or transfer to someone to withdraw for me or I secure another space and rush back.
Have you been in such scenario before? Share your experience.

Richdad50:
shocked

A majority of Nairaland commentors are Dundees. There are over 2million members on Nairaland with an estimated 10million non registered members. Out of the over 2million register members, only 0.5% of them are regular commentors who also push the like, share, and mention buttons. 70% are active readers who go through the comments but don't like, share or mention. 29% are active readers only. They don't wish to see the rubbish posted by half of 0.5 commentors.

That is why the average maximum likes fluctuates between 100 - 300likes per very good and very useless comments and peak at 400likes for great and most useless comments. There is a battle for the soul of commentary amongst the 0.5% with a significant push and leanings towards the 'useless'.

If the high nos of reasonable readers from the 99% push the buttons, the average likes, shares or mentions for a great post will peak at over 200k or more just like you find in Instagram. However, the ruthlessness and insolence of half the 0.5% who quickly post the 'useless' has painstakingly made it difficult for the 70% who regularly search for good and great comments and 29% who rarely are interested in going down the journey of 'useless'.

When I write, I write for the digestion of the 99% and half the 0.5%. The most reasonable and important part of the group who although, stay quiet, are far more active in mind.

But i will typically pick Cowrywise over Crowdyvest.
Cowrywise is solid, I've used them because of these 3 reasons:

- It is backed by YCombinator (one of the top venture capitals in the world). Same YC funded Paystack, which has now done over 1000% at exit after selling to Stripe

- The co-founder Razaq (CFA) has a first class in Economics and has worked at Meristem, Shell e.t.c

- They have a trustee partnership with Meristem Trustees which is regulated by SEC.

So forget all the noise here from people that are not ready for digitization of the entire banking, financial and investment sector.

There is a way to go about it, use every social media means to advertise a free catering training on WhatsApp or telegram, give the basic or fundamental knowledge about catering from there tell them to register for a master class for advance training with money, at least you will see few people joining.
Nb:
-Carry them along during the free training.
-Don't start the training until you have up to 100 to 200 out of which you can have like 20-50 paying for advance class
-Put them in great suspense of what to gain in the advance class.
-Be punctual. If you promise to start the training by 7pm be available online before time.

Success is yours.

Please, I am just curious. what's the implication of not paying? Since its online, can the come to arrest loan defaulters?
There are many actions that can be taken to recover their loan.
1- They flag your BVN: Any other banks or institutions associated with your BVN can be contacted to seize your money through credit bureau (this is their major collateral, though it may take time because you cannot register for another BVN)
2- They can contract people on your contact list to help them talk to you.
3- They can post your pictures online because they have access to your phone, before few weeks people will give details about you.

All these and many more are in their terms and conditions we hurriedly agree to during registration.

Sure. Even though the only language some people understand is violence, we can't totally blame the banks.
Furthermore, its not the banks that teach their staff to be violent but the pressure the staff receive in case of default. So indirectly, the banks will still be blame.

Business / ‘breasts On Lantern’: CBN Speaks On Banks’ ‘inhumane, Unethical Debt Recovery Pr by SenatorJames(m): 4:20pm On Jun 14, 2019
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it is unaware of crude debt recovery methods adopted by some microfinance banks.

It, however, said it is taking steps to ‘curb the use of inhumane and unethical debt recovery practices.”

In response to an earlier enquiry on its position over the reported cases of harassment of debtors by some microfinance institutions, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has distanced itself from the allegations.

In a mail sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, the CBN said it is not aware of the practices and never approved of the unethical and embarrassing methods deployed by the said banks to recover debts from their customers.

The mail was signed on behalf of the Director of the Consumer Protection Department by an official, I. Yahaya.

PREMIUM TIMES had earlier reported the pain, frustration and embarrassment suffered by customers of some microfinance institutions over failure to repay loans drawn from them. The report was titled; ‘Breasts on lantern’: Agonies of Nigerian microcredit loan borrowers.

The CBN had promised to investigate the matter and said it would make its position known to the newspaper.

In its statement, apex bank said it had earlier in 2016 issued a Consumer Protection Framework (CPF) requiring financial institutions under its regulatory purview to adopt debt recovery processes ”that are courteous and fair to consumers, amongst other things”.

“Where consumers are however unable to meet their financial obligations, financial institutions are to adopt fair and ethical debt recovery practices.”

CBN added that the consumer protection department is currently developing guidelines on responsible business conduct for financial institutions “to curb the use of inhumane and unethical debt recovery practices.”

“Stakeholders are enjoined to always bring incidences of unethical debt recovery practices to the attention of the CBN for prompt regulatory intervention,” the statement noted.
