Man tries to use his girlfriend for rituals in gayna 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sell his girlfriend for ritual purposes. The suspect, Samuel Dadson, had wanted to kill his 21-year girlfriend (name withheld) in Kumasi for him to easily transport the human parts needed for the rituals in Accra. But the buyer, who was acting on police instruction, told Dadson to personally bring his girlfriend to Accra since it would take away the difficulty of having to transport the human parts of his girlfriend to Accra. To protect the victim from being killed, the buyer also agreed to pay the GH ¢8,000 Dadson had demanded for the human parts of his girlfriend. On July 3, this year, Dadson arrived with the girl at the VIP Lorry Station in Accra, where he was picked up by the police. Briefing journalists in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said Dadson managed to convince her girlfriend, whom he met a month ago, to accompany him to Accra on a business trip. On July 2, Dadson, who resides in Kumasi, is said to have picked a taxi in Accra and asked a taxi driver to help him to locate a Mallam who could assist him to make ‘quick’ money. The taxi driver (name withheld) told him that he could lead him to a Mallam at Weija who could perform the rituals for him. According to Mr Yohonu, Dadson, on July 3, this year, called the taxi driver with the information that he had two human heads and was offering them for GH¢8,000 to any prospective buyer. Shocked by the news, the taxi driver alerted the police, who then made him to contact Dadson that he has found a buyer. The buyer asked Dadson to bring the items, including the victim, in the night on the said date to be killed in Accra. The suspect agreed and said he was cash-strapped and needed GH ¢100 to be used as transportation to Accra. Mr Yohonu said the money was sent to Dadson through MTN mobile money transfer at 2 p.m. He said Dadson was arrested immediately after he alighted at the VIP lorry station in Accra, in the company of his girlfriend. Upon interrogation, Dadson is said to have admitted and confessed to the crime. The suspect and his girlfriend are currently at the regional police command, awaiting further investigations and possible prosecution of the suspect. Source: Daily Graphic |

Sports / Brazilian Terror Group Threatenes To Unleash Terror During World Cup Games by SenatorM(m): 2:51pm On Oct 20, 2013 |
The largest and most organized criminal organization in Brazil has threatened to unleash a “World Cup of Terror” during the world’s biggest soccer stage in the summer of 2014. Just eight months before Brazil hosts the World Cup, Brazilian police have intercepted phone calls using wiretaps from the First Capital Command (PCC) drug cartel threatening a series of attacks during the World Cup if the government decides to transfer some of its gang members to prisons spread across the South American country, according to Brazilian newspaper Estadao. The PCC was formed in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, and operates within the country’s prison system. Using cell phones, lawyers and corrupt officials, the criminal gang has managed to grow to an estimated 11,000 members and gain control of the country’s major drug trafficking routes between Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. The threat is being taken seriously by Brazilian police who are tracking the threats and are currently locked in a street war with the gang. The PCC murdered 106 members of the Military Police in 2012 after revenge attacks were ordered by the gang in response to the execution by police of suspected gang members. But law enforcement authorities said it’s highly unlikely the threat will affect the World Cup games and said it shouldn’t deter anyone from visiting the country next year. “It is a group that should be taken seriously and being fought like any criminal organization,” Sao Paulo’s public security office said in the statement. “However, the information gathered so far by intelligence services does not point to any indication that any attack will occur. This is not the time to generate alarmism.” However, the Sao Paulo police chief has asked his men to be extra careful when parking their cars and traveling home. The threats are just the latest concerns before the World Cup opens on June 12th in Sao Paulo. Brazil has promised FIFA to complete 12 new World Cup stadiums and, according to government numbers, six of the stadiums are yet to be completed and five are only 90 percent completed. The country has also been plagued with violence and protests by Brazilians fed up with rampant corruption and frustrated with the enormous resources the nation is allocating to prepare for the World Cup. These days, there is a nationwide movement against government spending. Teachers are currently striking in many states in Brazil, calling for better work conditions and salary increases. On Tuesday night, in Sao Paulo, groups of university students joined teachers protesting for higher wages. Police reported that four police officers were injured, seven banks were vandalized and at least 56 people detained before the clashes between police and masked demonstrators ended. The government is investing an enormous amount of money, an estimated $14 billion to host the World Cup, during a time in which Brazilians feel the country should be investing in public infrastructure and public salaries. “The government is exercising imminent domain and taking over the slums to use the land for sporting infrastructure and that is producing enormous resentment,” Larry Birns, director of the Council of Hemispheric Affairs, said of Brazil’s efforts to clean up their slums and rid areas of violent gangs. “It is harvesting a lot of problems from its past. It’s not that these things don’t need to be built, but it’s being built without the consultation of local people and, in a way, that alienates the poor.” Critics have said World Cup preparations are benefiting the rich at the expense of the country’s poor. “It’s a bittersweet thing,” Birns said about how Brazilians feel about hosting the World Cup. “They are trying to do decades worth of work in a year’s time.” www.informationng.com/2013/10/2014-world-cup-brazils-largest-criminal-gang-threatens-world-cup-of-terror.html |

Nairaland / General / Shekau Is Dead-jtf by SenatorM(m): 10:22am On Oct 09, 2013 |
Investigators of the Joint Task Force (JTF) who have been probing the video of the leader of the dreaded Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram, Mallam Abubakar Shekau have rubbished a supposed video of the militant leader, which indicated he was still alive. A report put together by the team of investigators on behalf of the security agencies said that the investigators have been able to fault the video in "a number of ways." Though the real location of the militant leader is yet to be ascertained by the security forces, there was a strong belief in the forces that Shekau was not alive. Analysis of the last video said to have been made available to authorities indicated that Shekau was cloned. Sources in the know quoted the report as submitting that Shekau in previous video appearances would start with a recitation of a full verse of the Holy Quran that sometimes could last up to five minutes. The report indicated that the stand-in Shekau in the video never observed that tradition. Reports also indicated that in previous occasions, Shekau's speech was never interrupted by hailing from the background and that the last video had such features. Investigations by the JTF was also said to have identified that the movement on the lips of the man presented as Shekau in the video did not synchronise with the words he pronounced, an indication according to the report of "a recorded message inefficiently manipulated to sustain a non-existent continuum in leadership." The report according to the sources also indicated that following the failure of the alleged attempt to mimic Shekau's voice in the opening part of the video, alleged stand- in Shekau reverted to his real voice. "The intonation was different as well as the fact that Abubakar Shekau does not drag his voice," the analysis further stated. www.naij.com/news/49237.html |
Nairaland / General / Lagos SG Seal Off The Headquarters Of Lords Chosen Church by SenatorM(m): 5:45pm On Oct 08, 2013 |
The headquarters of the Lord's Chosen and Charismatic Revival Church on Ijesha, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, were sealed off by the Lagos State Government over environmental nuisance. The Officials of the Ministry of the Environment shut down the Church in the morning of on October 6, 2013, and prevented the worshippers from having their Sunday service usually attended by thousands of faithful. Investigations revealed that the Church does not have solid waste disposal facility. It burns its waste inside the Church premises, thereby exposing the lives of its worshippers to serious health hazard. A substantial part of the sprawling Church lies on the Odo Asimawu Canal drainage channel, thereby impeding the flow of storm water. The Church also built its toilets on the canal, thereby discharging all its human waste into the canal. In order prevent an outbreak of epidemic, the state government had to seal the entire Church premises. The government accused the Church of defacing and degrading the environment and refusing to abate the nuisance even after it had been served abatement notice to upgrade the environment. Mr. Tunji Bello, the Commissioner for the Environment, said the Church had committed lots of environmental abuse which it must abate before the massive edifice could be re-opened by the government as such illegality could not be tolerated any longer. According to him, the Church did not have proper waste management system, adding that it burnt its refuse inside the Church, an action which ran fowl of the environmental and sanitation law of the state. "The Church does not have proper sanitary system and they discharge their wastes into the canal. Most of their members trade on the expressway and we don't want that," the Commissioner stated. Mr. Bello added that the Church would only be re-opened if it constructed new toilets as well as bagged its solid waste as well as managed such waste properly, saying that the Church must build a sewage septic tank for the treatment of waste water. He also assured that the state government would not shirk its responsibility of protecting Lagos environment and ensure that its residents were protected from environmental abuse. The Commissioner stated that the Church must also ensure that none of its members trade on the expressway, while the Church must remove illegal attachments built on drainage channel alignment in the area. He said any structure to be erected by the Church must be about 50 metres away from the drainage channel and ensure that the environment was kept clean, after which the government would re-open the Church. Reporters who visited the Church in the morning of October 8 noticed many members of the Church who were working frantically to clean up their environment. Massive demolition of structures built on drainage alignment has also started. It was not possible to get direct comments from Churches' officials as they were not authorized by the Pastor for giving interviews. The Lord's Chosen is founded by Pastor Lazarus Muoka, who serves as the General Overseer of the Church. www.naij.com/news/49180.html |
