The guy's life hasn't been easy, and even after catching a break with Glee he still ends up dead. So sad.

sexkillz: The spambot thinks a foreign language is spam. So before you copy and paste from google, think twice, before it hands you a ban.
False. The spambot doesn't care about language. Sometimes it mistakenly marks foreign languages as spam but that's why we have mods. It's their duty to correct these mistakes so that the spambot will have a better idea of what is spam and what is not spam. When they fail to do this, then you can have situation where people are wrongly banned. Don't be afraid to post anything that's not spam or against the rules of Nairaland.

Elai147: You may be right. One of my bankers don't always buy for me at the primary market. They will always give me one reason or the other for not being able to submit or execute my bid- I have never bided more than the stop rate in any PMA but yet they give me stories and later offer me something from their holdings in T-Bills. But what can I do? At least it's better than rejecting the offer and waiting for the next auction (with no interest) of which it's not certain they will submit my bid.
You can just change your banker or bank.
InvestmentRe: Managing Your Investments Yourself Or By A Professional, Which Is Better? by Seun(mod):
mercylicious: Financial intelligence is key. If u don't have it, please use professionals.
I think investing is like bleeping your spouse: you can ask people to give you new ideas and teach you how to do it better, but you cannot ask them to do it for you and expect a good outcome. If you don't have financial intelligence, you should stick with tbills and index funds until you have acquired financial intelligence. If you don't have financial intelligence, how will you even know which professional to use?
ProgrammingRe: A MIRROR For SOFTWARE Downloads Here In NIGERIA by Seun(mod): 8:01pm On Jul 12, 2013
If you're directed to a South African mirror, it makes sense to use Google to find a mirror based in the UK.

I think most of our ISPs connect to the internet via the UK (or Europe, at least).
InvestmentRe: Managing Your Investments Yourself Or By A Professional, Which Is Better? by Seun(mod): 7:47pm On Jul 12, 2013
It makes sense to have investment advisers, if you can afford that luxury, but the final decision of what to invest in and how much to invest in should be yours and yours alone. When your investment advisers come to you with ideas, you must not invest based on your faith in them. You must ask them lots of questions and challenge them to produce more hard facts about the proposed investment until you are personally convinced that investing the money in what they suggested is a good idea for you. You must have a complete understanding of the rationale behind each and every investment that is made on your behalf. You must say no to any investing idea that you are not 100% sure about personally.

Why?

1) Because it is well known that the average investment manager cannot beat the performance of the stock market index. That means that if you pick stocks randomly for your portfolio, you are likely to perform as well as an average investment manager who is investing based on his supposed expert knowledge of the market.

2) Because people don't invest other people's money as well as they invest their own money. Your investment manager will take too many risks with your money because he/she has nothing to lose if the investment does not work out, but a lot to gain if it does. He will gamble with your money and he will not do better than a monkey.

The feature is extremely complicated due to some aggressive caching we implemented. We may replace it with something better.

The moderator should also remove all off topic threads from this section daily so investors won't be annoyed and leave.

The moderator should recommend at least one thread from this section for the home page every day, as we have mandated.

Javanian: Boss, Can i apply? grin
Creatrixity: Can I apply?I have been working with django ( 12 hours daily) on a project and I will deploy it as soon as I am through with the UI.
I ported from php (hated the url style) to my favourite programming language python so I am proficient in the use of SQL and ORM .
Yes. You should both apply A.S.A.P if you're ready to code for us full-time. Let's start the process today.

ayztech: please if after buying these bills and one needs the money before the maturity date to meet needs, how does one go about that seeing the interest is paid upfront?
The interest is always paid upfront, but if you need more cash urgently, you can get a bank loan using tbills as collateral.

lordZOUGA: I know that. but most queries are boilerplate code and can be easily handled by an ORM. the complex queries can be handled by pure SQL. Seun apparently is not being flexible about the SQL and that had me puzzled.
Once you start using SQL, most of your queries won't be boilerplate code. They will be elegant constructs that can replace pages of ORM code.

Many things in life are weird. Sex is weird. Getting examined by a doctor is weird. So what? If it doesn't bother them, it shouldn't bother us.

elvis10ten: @seun, which means with my j2me, java, php and little sql knowledge i can apply and learn python later ?
We can hire you as an intern after you write your WASSCE and while you're awaiting admission into a higher institution. You will have to learn Python to a certain point before we can hire you, though, and the earlier you start learning it, the better. You have two years to learn, so you should be a Python guru by the time you apply.

Fayimora: Any reason why there are no specifics on the skills required? I'm sure some folks wouldn't care but its worth mentioning if you need an intermediate Scala programmer or an expert in Haskell and not just someone who can build websites in "any programming language"
Our immediate need is for website development in Python, but I can see us building Scala/Go websites or Java/Objective C/C# Apps later. We are not hiring for a short term project. We want developers who will evolve and grow with us for several years. We're building an organization.

okeyxyz: Why does @Seun not want his workers working remotely?
We've invested in a very comfortable programmer's office in Sango Ota. It would be a shame if the developers we hire don't get to use it.

GideonG: I am very Hardworking but I don't do web any more, I am strictly on Android development right now.
Currently developing my third Android App. I will love to work as a Android developer.
We need people who can learn any language the business needs and develop for any platform the business requires. Flexible generalists!

Djtm: What's wrong with php? Too common?
We don't want to hire developers who can only program in PHP, because PHP is a very limited language. However, the original wording mistakenly excluded programmers who can write web apps in PHP but can also create desktop or mobile apps with better languages like C#. We don't mind hiring such programmers because it would be quite easy for them to learn to write web apps in Python, so we've corrected it.
ProgrammingRe: Help Using Python And Netbeans by Seun(mod): 1:12pm On Jul 10, 2013
Try eclipse. It's not as user-friendly as Netbeans, but once you get used to it,
you'll find that it supports every open source language & tool you need.
