HARDDON: Mr Seun,

why are the rules always popping up any time one wants to create a thread or post a reply?

are there no rules' threads on every section again?

we should be as user-friendly as possible and not string complex at other' expense.

and if you havent noticed, nobody's got the time to go through all that ish b4 they can make their mind known.

I do believe this is a temporal thing and should be removed hereafter.

NB: it is not all time one has access to a system with larger screen. some of us work on smaller-screened mobile devices too

zeera2: I disagree wit seun,God created me without eyebrows and I dnt wear heavy make up nor do anything to my brows n I look very ok.
My quarrel is with those who have them and choose to scrape them off. I don't mean to offend you or others who who were born without them or who lost theirs due to chemotherapy or burns. It's unlikely that all but 2 of these contestants were born without eyebrows. They just thought that scraping them off would make them more beautiful, and so they did that.

Lilimax: Although you have a thick eyebrow, it fits guys but does not fit most girls.
wink wink
My eyebrows are actually thin; most men have thicker eyebrows than mine. But these girls don't have eyebrows. They have black marks drawn with some sort of marker where their eyebrows should be. It's horrifying. The most beautiful women in the world have rich natural eyebrows. They may shape their eyebrows a little bit, but they don't shave them off or make them thin. A girl can't be called beautiful if she has no eyebrows. It's rubbish. Thats the main reason why some women look like monsters before doing their makeup. No eyebrows. Yuck.

I don't think you want to wake up to that horror every morning for the rest of your life.

Only two of them have eyebrows. How can you represent Nigeria in a beauty pageant without eyebrows? huh

funky medina: I am not impressed ...rather then edit the rule to respect all religions he rather struck it off. The same comtempt that made him write it is still there . Also he never apologised! Instead he declared from his imaginary throne the HE has decided to stike it down.

I believe an apology is in order, you have offended the very core of many people who give you a lively hood and put food on your table. Man up and apologise!
I apologize!

Nairaland General"If It Is A Crime To Save Lives, Then We Are Guilty!" - Seun Osewa by Seun(mod): 11:09am On May 09, 2013
Seun Osewa, the owner of Nigeria’s biggest online community Nairaland, has explained to HumanIPO the reason administrators of the forum are censoring comments and banning members who make inappropriate posts.

In an exclusive interview Osewa said such actions are required to prevent continual derailment of threads by those asking irrelevant questions and he believes the censorship can save lives.

“Do you honestly believe we should not have taken any action against the so-called "garri activists", who were derailing every thread by asking irrelevant questions about garri?” he said.

Osewa also justified the forum’s instruction warning members against posting comments that are derogatory to Islam.

When asked why the notice is not placed on the threads of other religions, he said the administrators took the decision to prevent the repetition of past religious violence sparked by anti-Islam posts in print and online media.

“Two hundred innocent people died in November 2002 because a journalist made a comment about the Miss World contest. 16 innocent people died February 2006 because a newspaper in Denmark published an inappropriate cartoon.

“If it is a crime to try to discourage people from posting comments that could lead to lost lives, then we are certainly guilty,” Osewa said.

On how he got the idea to create the forum, he said it stemmed from his previous recognition of the value of online discussion forums.

He said: “I used to be active on various discussion forums online, so I recognised their value. But the Nigerian forums available at the time were dominated by Nigerians abroad.

“They focused on topics like US politics and inter-racial relations. In 2005, after a mobile phone forum I created, because GSM phones were trendy at the time, started taking off, I noticed that the discussions were dominated by Nigerians at home. And it was wonderful.”

Osewa said “off-topic” sections which focused on topics such as romance and politics were particularly popular which led him to believe a “general-purpose” forum focusing on Nigerian life would work.

“So I built Nairaland and closed the mobile phone forum. As expected, Nairaland's local focus appealed to Nigerians at home, including many who didn't know anything about forums.

“But it also appealed to many Nigerians abroad because it made them feel as if they were back in Nigeria. So we got to eat our cake and have it too. We were very fortunate.”

On the forum’s success story, he said it is as a result of the forum’s loyal and passionate members.

“I feel so blessed to be in charge of the Nairaland Forum. I feel extremely fortunate. I don't think Nairaland has any secrets.

“Nairaland is what it is today because Nairaland members have chosen to stick with us for the past eight years.

“We have loyal and passionate members of all ages who continually enrich each others' lives by sharing information freely on our platform,” Osewa told HumanIPO.

Nairaland GeneralStriking Down Rule 17 by Seun(mod):
Fellow Nairaland Members,

Your outrage over the unfair appearance of rule 17 has been noted, and so I have decided to strike it down!

Thank you for correcting me and setting me straight. We certainly need to be fair to every religion.

Best Regards,
Seun Osewa.

I would like to correct some misconceptions.

Most moderators don't support rule 17. We had an extensive debate during which most of them opposed it but were not able to convince me that we could remove or generalize the rule without exposing the forum to a security risk or reducing your freedom of speech.

Also, I am not a muslim. I am not even pro-muslim. This rule was created to save Christian lives and not to benefit muslims.
