On one hand, I understand that. It would be almost impossible to reverse the effect of prejudice without affirmative action, such as this. (People often claim to be fair to all races and genders and religions, but when examined carefully, their actions are almost always found to be prejudicial. It's a subconscious thing.) On the other hand, I do not want less competent people to be appointed to positions that they are not qualified for just because someone was trying to fill a quota. So I don't know whether to support this or not! |
