TV/MoviesGame Of Thrones Vs Spartacus by Seun(mod): 6:02pm On Apr 05, 2013
coogar: spartacus is better than game of thrones - ...
Frostyzone: And here we go again...

How could you honestly pick Spartacus above the epic Game of Thrones Series. While Spartacus gained notoriety through it's no holds barred approach to story telling, Game of thrones actually captivated the world by it's authenticity. Little wonder why year after year, the later is collecting countless awards, the former is continually been ignored. Who wants to honour a violent soft porn tv series anyway?

Picking Spartacus above Game of thrones tells me alot about your taste, which is sadly IMO, not very objective.
Samunosuke: Are you shitting me? There is no way in the 7 kingdoms that you seriously believe Spartacus is better than Game of Thrones. Westeros is the creation from some one's mind while the arena is real history. No comparison there. Look at all the fantasy fiction out there: Lord of the Rings (+ the hobbit), Harry Potter etc. They are all epic. Spartacus, while good, is mostly blood and gore, building on from the success of 300.
coogar: fantasy vs realism - which should people buy into?
what made spartacus lose his vibe was the death of andy whitfield - the viewers had connected with him in season one and his loss did a lot of damage to the viewership. spartacus' season one has more substance than anything game of thrones can provide....people watch shows to pick on one liners and great quotes, not the growls of imps and lannisters. mention one memorable quote on GOT.....abeg, go and sit down with your tunnel-vision!
Dan_de_Numeruno: There are several actually.

Sandor (The Hound): Any man dies with a clean sword, I'll ra.pe his fu-king corpse!

Cersei: The gods have no mercy, that's why they're gods.

Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege. A wedding.

Tyrion: Those are brave men knocking at our
door. Let's go kill them!

Cersei: Tears aren't a woman's only weapon The best one's between your legs.

Tyrion: I much like my head. I don't want to
see it removed just yet.

-Bronn: Do you know how to use that?

-Tyrion: I chopped wood once. No, actually, I
watched my brother chop wood.

-Tyrion: I'm the captain. If this ship goes
down, I go down with it.

-Varys: I'm sure many captains said the same
when the ship was afloat.

Those are only but a few. There are more epic ones that I will post later on.
Dan_de_Numeruno: Here are some of the epic ones;

Eddard Stark: The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword.

Grand Maester Pycelle: A dying mind is a demented mind, Lord Stark. For all the weight they're given, last words are usually as significant as first words.

Jaime Lannister: People have been swinging at me for years, they always seem to miss.

Tywin Lannister: It's the family name that lives on. That's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor, but family.

Tyrion Lannister: A Lannister always pays his debts.
coogar: these are memorable quotes? i laugh in doctore!
batiatus alone made more sick quotes than these ones.....are you kidding me? the only character on GOT that would walk into the spartacus set is the imp......the others are as bland as saliva!
Dan_de_Numeruno: Lol! Batiatus was insane with some of his explicit quotes, but it doesn't make one think. It only amuses. Game of Thrones on the other hand is full of insightful quotes.

It seems like you hate Game of Thrones for your own reasons, but it is really a great series. Very original and totally unpretentious, unlike Spartacus.
coogar: i don't hate game of thrones - i saw the first 2 seasons and i was particularly impressed with season 1. in my opinion, season 2 was mehhhhh but i am watching the current season. it's corny to compare GOT with spartacus. people tend to underrate spartacus because of the sheer nüdity and the raw violence but beyond those are dialogues that would make you fall in love with engish language. words put together so intelligently it would make shakespeare grin in his grave.....

batiatus' quotes should be etched in gold......some are explicit some would just make you go bonkers. i have missed his character so much. he talks with so much aura to make you look beyond his despicable leadership. he's not the only one, his wife is world class too so are many of the characters on the show! you cannot compare both shows - spartacus wins on dialogue alone and the unusual english language they spoke on the show.
Dan_de_Numeruno: You made a very strong point. I have to agree with some of what you wrote. I do enjoy Spartacus because of it's raw and uncensored dialogues and excessive nudity and violence - I'm not a saint after all. And the Gods of the Arena remains my favorite season of the series, particularly because of the strong acting of Batiatus.

But I disagree on your view of Game of Thrones second season. It may not be as action packed as the first season, but it's more educational. To me it had more substance, because it actually made clear about some unresolved issues of season one.

Bottom line - Both shows are good in their own ways, but Game of Thrones edged out Spartacus on the bases of originality and creativity alone.

It's more internationally accepted than Spartacus would ever be.
ThiefOfHearts: Spartacus is garbage now. What's the point without Lucretia and Batiatus

abeg.

BusinessRe: How Can I Create An Alternative Income With 50,000 Naira by Seun(mod): 2:54pm On Apr 05, 2013
You should first put it in FGN bonds. You can sell the bond when there is a sensible investment opportunity.
InvestmentRe: Investment As An Undergraduate? by Seun(mod): 2:44pm On Apr 05, 2013
Since your goal is just to keep the money safe so you won't spend it, I think you should put the whole amount in Nigerian Government (FGN) bonds that will mature when you graduate.

WebmastersRe: Many Sites Hosted By Web4Africa Are Down by Seun(mod): 9:01pm On Apr 04, 2013
The owner of Web4Africa is a great guy and a Nigerian. He had been hosting sites long before I started Nairaland, and he was one of our initial set of members. I think these sorts of issues are a result of Web4Africa's massive size. It's very difficult to hold the hands of your customers when there are thousands of them instead of a few dozen. If you have thousands of customers and 1% of them are unhappy, things appear much worse than when you have 1 unhappy customer out of 100. Don't forget that they achieved their scale in Nigeria by acquiring our biggest hosting site - Nairahost - which was also having issues with support due to its massive size. We are probably not qualified to tell them how to run their business, but I believe they will figure out how to implement fantastic customer support and uptime at their huge scale sooner than later.

Car TalkRe: Top 30 Fastest Cars by Seun(mod): 8:26pm On Apr 04, 2013
yungboss: the title says 'top 30 fastest cars' and not 'top 30 fastest cars in Nigeria', so seun it doesn't look like a good point was made here...
That's also a good point, but I guess I sympathize with the notion that Nairaland is about Nigerian things by default. The politics section for example, deals strictly with Nigerian politics, but we don't need to call it the Nigerian Politics section. Anyway, I guess we should forget this and get back to discussing the topic of this thread.

JomoGbomo2: @feelamong, pls dont spoil this nahco stock more than it is already o. i hold loads of unit there and i dont plan to sell despite the disappointment. my plan is stay and le the price get to the bottom and then amass more of it so i can break even at worse case.
if that's your plan, then you should encourage him to thrash it more so you'll get more of it at a cheaper price wink
TV/MoviesRe: Game Of Thrones Discussion (Beware Of Spoilers) by Seun(mod):
@Ignatio
Don't read the books until at least the end of the current season or the next one. I'm saying this out of concern for your happiness. If you watch the tv series first, you will enjoy it a lot and your enjoyment of the books will be increased when you get to them because you'll have images to go with the words and because the book is so much more enjoyable. It will be like having a double orgasm. However, if you read the books first, you won't enjoy the series as much because the series will inevitably be dull compared to the images formed in your mind while reading the books. Moreso, the author of the books is a very slow writer. It could take him 5 - 10 years to release the next book. So there's no reason to rush to the books yet. You will have plenty of time for it after the series. If you must read the books, try to stop at book 2. Book 3 is the best one, so you would want to experience it on tv, this season and the next. Books 4 and 5 are quite dull. So please, pace yourselves!

This one is about his life during his service at his PPA, AFTER CAMP.

I believe that's why he decided to split them.

Cheers!
Thank you for your patient explanation.

Mazi_Omenuko: Did you see the previous thread? My last upload was at the 97th page, yet it got to 114 pages before I started this work.

Semid4lyf advised that I start this work on a new thread, I think it was a great idea.

Can someone else help me explain to 'Oga at the top-most top' why we moved!
It still makes no sense to me. I can't understand the problem you thought you were solving. Are you implying that there is something inherently bad about a thread having more than 97 pages? Does it damage your story in some way? huh
LiteratureRe: NYSC: PPA:- Place Of Promiscuous Assignment by Seun(mod): 5:45pm On Apr 04, 2013
Mazi_Omenuko: I didn't want the same title for two different threads. I would have continued on the previous thread, but it got voluminous and would have been difficult to follow.

Forget the title joor, its not that bad.
Even your reason for starting a new thread makes no sense to me. Can anyone else explain the benefits of this decision?

This is a good idea. Naturally, we have considered it. We plan to automate when we are satisfied with our evolving business model.
