You’ve got the best personality and are an absolute pleasure to be around. You love to make new friends and be outgoing. You are a great flirt and more than likely have a very attractive partnerYeah, no, not accurate at all. |
@wassolldas: Interesting. Good luck! @jajad: Good luck! |
If no one is working on this contest, then I'd like to cancel it, because I'm yet to get any entries. |
Source? |
Why do you want to sell? |
Anyone else working on it? |

A real man is a male who is above 18. |
What I had in mind is this: once the marginal bid (which cannot be accepted, e.g. uche's bid above) is determined, the winning bidders are those who bid above the price offered by that marginal bidder. So if uche bid 160 instead of 155, same as chisom, he would still be the marginal bidder, but chisom won't be among the winning bidders because she did not offer a price higher than the "cut-off". I'll correct the original explanation now. Thanks pointing out the problem. Your alternative approach of considering time makes more sense, but I don't want to change the rules. |
I saw your post; it's cool that you're working on such things, but I need a pythonista at the moment. UPDATE: I see what you mean about time now. |
Not having enough? :-) |
@wassolldas: Let's say the CBN wants to sell exactly 1000 dollars, and the bids are as follows, sorted by rate: ahmad wants $300 at ₦170 per dollar bola wants $400 at ₦165 per dollar chisom wants $250 at ₦160 per dollar uche wants $200 at ₦155 per dollar tinubu wants $500 at ₦150 per dollar $300 < $100 $300 + $400 = $700. $700 <= $1000 $700 + $250 = $950. $950 <= $1000 $950 + $200 = $1150. $1150 > $1000. so uche is out, and anyone whose bid is not higher than uche's The winning bidders are ahmad (₦170), bola (₦165), and chisom (₦160), because their bids are higher than uche's bid. The official exchange rate will be the lowest rate offered by a winning bidder. That's ₦160 or chisom's bid. That's the rate all the winning bidders will have to pay per dollar for the amount of dollars they submitted bids for. So out of the $1000 offered for sale, ahmad will pay ₦(300*160) for $300. bola will pay ₦(400*160) for $400, and lucky chisom will pay ₦(250*160) for $250. uche and tinubu will get nothing and the CBN will be left with $50 after selling $950. It's a very simple algorithm. Notes: * Your code should not allow bidders to bid more than what they have in their naira accounts. In the above example, Ahmad's bid for $300 at ₦170 per dollar should have required the loading of at least ₦(300*170) into his account before bidding, even though he will ended up paying only ₦(300*160). The change will be left in his naira account. * Withdrawals and deposits into accounts in the webapp should be simulated, of course. It's just a proof of concept. |
Fayimora:I would take a look at it, out of curiosity, but you'll not be eligible for the prize or future deals. Seun, maybe it would have been better to have asked Python programmers to send in applications or their portfolio, then do this sudden death thing amongst them. That's for another time anyways.Good idea, but the applications in their portfolios will probably not satisfy the technical requirements. |
I've had the same problem. I think dabbing your chin with methylated spirit immediately after barbing helps. Beyond that, I was advised to use an anti-septic cream like Baycuten. |
Some of them are also the best universities in Nigeria, so I think you get what you pay for. |
What I learned from the last contest I conducted is that there's no need for compromise. If I know what I need, then that's exactly what I should ask for. If only one person satisfies the criteria and that person can work, that's success! Python is the easiest language in the world, and CherryPy is one of the easiest Python web frameworks to learn. If you can't learn Python and CherryPy now, then I doubt that our future working relationship will be productive. |
How would you rate EMS Speedpost? |
@dell_net: The restrictions are to ensure that the winners will be people who can work with me on new code, and perhaps work on older projects like Nairalist. Another benefit is that it will be easier to judge contestants fairly if they're using the same tools. How do you compare a PHP script with Java enterprise beans factories? :-) @Mobinga: The code is not for my benefit; I'm not a central bank. You can open source your submission and release it on github, bitbucket, or google code. You can polish your code and present it to the CBN, after winning. I don't much care It's just a programming contest to test your skills. By participating, even if you don't win, you will have added one more item to your CV and learnt a lot about web development. It's supposed to be a really simple weekend project. |
Jajad Wins 1st Prize In Web Programming Contest In an effort to discover intelligent, hardworking & available web developers to work on several challenging projects, I’m launching a web application development contest. The best and 2nd best entries will win ₦70,000 and ₦30,000 respectively, to be paid by direct deposit into their bank accounts. BACKGROUND: The Central Bank of Nigeria regularly conducts FOREX Auctions in which they sell dollars from our foreign reserves to strengthen the naira. The participants in the auction indicate the amount of dollars they want and the exchange rate at which they want to buy the dollars. The CBN looks through the bids and selects an optimal exchange rate at which (almost) all the dollars for sale in the auction will be bought. Those who offered to buy at that exchange rate or higher will get the amount they asked for at the chosen exchange rate. Those who offered less naira per dollar than the chosen rate will get nothing. The rate at which the CBN sold dollars becomes the official exchange rate. This is simpler than what happens actually in reality, but it’s the model this contest is based on. CHALLENGE: To demonstrate your web development skills, I’d like you to develop a proof of concept implementation of a web-app that the CBN could use to conduct FOREX Auctions as described above. Members of the public will be able to register as bidders with their real names and confirmed email addresses, and load naira into their accounts to buy dollars in the auction. They’ll also be able to withdraw dollars from their accounts after successfully buying from the CBN. The CBN governor will have a special account that can be used to load FOREX reserves and then set up auctions where fixed dollar amounts will be offered to the registered bidders. All registered bidders will get an email alert. At the end of the auction period, your web app will automatically determine the correct exchange rate, transfer dollars to the winning bidders and deduct the naira equivalents from their accounts. TECHNICAL: • I need to be able to evaluate your development process, so make sure you use a repo. I prefer HG, but Git is great, and SVN is cool too. Commits should be frequent and well documented. • Use CherryPy 3.2.2 (latest version) as your framework, running on Python 3.2.2 (also latest verison) • Use raw SQL, MySQL 5.5 and InnoDB tables for your data. Don’t use an ORM. Provide the DB schema as a raw .sql file that creates the database. • Account balances, exchange rates, and all calculations should be accurate to 4 decimal places exactly (not floating point). • Don’t waste any time on the look in a browser. Make it look clean and usable, that’s all. SUBMISSION: When you’re ready to submit, just send me your source code repository and CV. If there are issues, I’ll let you know so you can improve your work and re-submit. This is a sudden death project. Once I get two great entries, I’ll close the contest and award the prizes by bank deposit. Finishing quickly is very helpful, if work is good enough to win a prize. So it's a race: ready, set, go! Kobojunkie is trying to say she doesn't understand your question. Post the code here. |
A student from Beijing said her dream as a child was to be one of the richest people on Earth, so she asked Gates “what is one word of advice that you would give to someone like me to become someone like you?”http://www.xconomy.com/seattle/2011/10/27/bill-gates-uw/ |
I can't see any tears at all. |
The purpose of life is achieving what you want to achieve and becoming what you want to be. The purpose of life is whatever you want to do with your life!! This question is like someone asking "what is the purpose of money". The purpose of money is to buy whatever you want to buy!! It's a JAMB question. |
Is GEJ a dictator? If Buhari had won, then yes, it would have been a warning to Buhari. GEJ has said that he is is no lion or tiger or pharaoh or goliath. So it's not for GEJ, please. |
