Politics › GEJ Swears His Loyalty To The Nigerian Constitution by Seun(mod): 2:28pm On Aug 22, 2011 |
I am a firm believer of the doctrine of Separation of Powers since nations rise and fall in accordance to how they relate to the rule of law. I have sworn an oath to defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I refuse to be pressured to do things that will be against our constitution. Our nation is going through tough times but because Nigerians are tougher, these tough times will not last. There is nothing that constitutionalism and dialogue cannot resolve. A new private university, Elizade University, Ilara Mokin in Ondo State, established by the chairman of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, is to kick off in November this year.
Speaking after the third visit of the NUC standing committee on private universities, Ade Ojo said the project has gulped over N7billion
Ade Ojo said efforts would be made to ensure that anybody that qualifies for admission is not deprived because of financial hindrances. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/08/why-i-established-varsity-elizade-boss/ |

Politics › President Goodluck Jonathan Takes Credit For Single Digit Inflation Rate by Seun(mod): 9:05pm On Aug 20, 2011 |
Last month, I reported to you that inflation had dropped to 10.2% and many expressed a desire to have it further reduced.
I heard you and we went to work and today our Consumer Price Index records that inflation in Nigeria has dropped to 9.4% which is the lowest rate recorded in over three years as verified by sundry independent local and international agencies.
Please be assured that I read your comments here and take them into effect in decisions this administration makes. GEJ http://www.facebook.com/jonathangoodluck/posts/223899164327132 |

yamakuza: For most people in naija who have little or no money to implement one simple idea, yet find themselves churning out thousands, what is the solution? Go through your list of ideas and look for the most profitable ones. The ones that can generate a lot of income with minimal expenses. Keep streamlining your ideas by eliminating all unnecessary costs. Eventually, you will have one idea you can implement right now. When you do, just go ahead and implement it. Give it your all. |

Not having a degree is a huge disadvantage, you will have to work harder than others to achieve the same goals until the day you die or get a degree. Still, many of the most successful people in the world don't have degrees. Their inferiority complex pushes them to work harder to be rich in order to compensate. |
Business › Re: Warren Buffet Says To Congress, "Stop Coddling The Super-rich'' by Seun(mod): 8:37pm On Aug 15, 2011 |
I think Warren Buffett is just trying to score cheap political points, but don't take my word for it. Here's what Forbes Magazine has to say about Warren Buffett's "very strange tax argument": Warren Buffett’s got a piece in the New York Times today. A piece in which he makes a very strange claim about the rate of tax that he pays.
What he says, with the qualifications he uses, is true as far as it goes. It is, however, extremely misleading, because he’s left out the effect of the corporate income tax.
There are essentially two conceptual ways in which you can tax dividends. You can tax them as income to the people who collect them: this was the system in the UK, my home country and is effectively the system now. Or you can tax the profits at the corporate level and then dividends are tax free to the recipients. Several continental European countries use this system.
The United States is different: it has elements of both systems. First, corporate profits are subject to the corporate profits tax, some 35% currently as the headline rate. Then dividends are taxed again in the hands of the recipients at the rate of 15%. This means that the effective tax rate on Buffett’s dividends from Berkshire Hathaway was not the 15% that he’s using in his calculation above (the 2.4% to take the total to 17.4% is presumably referring to the capped social security taxes and the income tax on his salary, not dividends). http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2011/08/15/warren-buffetts-very-strange-tax-argument/ |

For each idea, I'll either: 1) Invest in a private company in the industry and try to motivate the CEO to implement the idea. 2) Share the idea with would-be entrepreneurs and offer to fund them if they choose to implement.
If the ideas work out, my ownership stake in the companies implementing them will gain value. |
