omo_to_dun:I've written programs in both Java and Scala, so I'm telling you my reasonably informed opinion. (Everything you write on a forum or utter with your mouth is your opinion, by the way) Scala's main merit is that it can do the things Java can do, but more elegantly. Unfortunately, the limited IDE support and slow compiler can make the gains hard to realize. |
What do you think about the quote below? "The 'imports are evil, exports are good' mentality is a symptom of an incomplete understanding of what trade is all about. Trade is about using what you have to get what you want, and it benefits both the buyer and the seller. You can't help people by restricting their right to trade. That is simply absurd." This suggests that import bans, tariffs, etc are almost never helpful, if ever. How true is this? |
Super T:It's not the first, and it won't be the last. Hollywood has a serious drug problem and something should be done. |
Scala is worth learning. It's primarily a better Java. |
NaijaHotJobs switched to VBulletin recently. How is that working out for them? |
It's sad. |
I hereby debunk the quote since the poster has no intention of providing any source. Thread locked. |
Aww. |
The search link above doesn't work. I don't know what kind of hoax attempt this is, but it's really annoying. You have not revealed the prime minister's twitter handle or a link to the tweet itself. |
It's a medical issue. Nothing more, nothing less. Consult a doctor to find out why. Stop being silly. |

Do you mean a million naira profit or a million naira income without considering expenses? |
Yeah, I've been a bit sloppy about the integration. You really need a project, man. Mail me! |

The amount you spend on food, or transport, or housing, or education, in 35 years, is also high. |
I don't think the minor benefits you mentioned are significant compared to the inconvenience of having to reprogram every IT system in the banking sector to accommodate the new numbers and to update all documents in the country that reference the old account numbers. Can you imaging the FRSC boss directing every car owner in the country to change their plate number to a uniform numbering scheme, just to make some minor things a little bit easier? How would you react to that? Or GEJ changing our official language to French? ![]() |
What's the price of the products you mentioned and the market price? |
As a programmer, it doesn't strike me as necessary. Computers can handle variable-length numbers perfectly. They could just have appended a 'bank code' to each existing number. For example, GTBank account number 477878352 could become GT-477878352 and First Bank account number 62726 would become FB-62726. Any idea why that option wasn't picked? (I bet they considered it). |
A NAFDAC license might be required, since a skin treatment is technically a drug. |
@alj_harem, ekt_bear, Abu-Maryam: Oh my. That's not true. I've always been against tribalism, but I felt that the only way to kill it was by encouraging people to speak freely so the more intelligent and enlightened members will convince the bigots to embrace a more constructive worldview. I have always directed the mods to move all threads advocating the division of Nigeria and violence against any tribe to the ethnic/tribal issues board. But other regular discussions, I left alone because I felt freedom of speech and open discourse were the best ways to change people's minds. When I post a topic on the home page, it doesn't mean I support whatever the OP suggested. It just means I think the topic merits further discussion, that's all. You people talk about "posting topics based on traffic" as if it's a profit-oriented thing, but it's also about giving people what they want. |
That's the good thing about our beloved president's famous 'generosity' - no strikes are possible! |
Why is this being done? |
How do you feel about the tribalistic folks in Nigeria, and especially on Nairaland? Let them know! |
Clinical depression is not the same thing as feeling depressed. It's a disease and this is how it kills. |
Please stop now to avoid a time-out. Please, sirs. |
EzeUche:Don't think I moved that one, but really, it's a sectarian issue and should be in the sectarian issues section. |
Actually, I'm the one who moved that thread. I have heard you and I'll think about it. But first, let me ask you a question. Who is the number 1 Igbo tribalist on Nairaland? |
You start. ![]() |
It's against the terms of service. You can't open an account or operate a Paypal account from Nigeria. |
A camera is designed for taking photos, so I don't know how to suggest an idea besides taking photos! |
Does anyone else suffer from the 'too many ideas' problem? I find myself constantly researching new & interesting business ideas. I tend to get really excited, learning all I can, as if I actually plan to implement them. However, once I feel I know everything I need to know about an idea, and I'm 100% convinced it's going to work, everything ends there. I really don't have much time to spend on another project: Nairaland is a full-time gig. I can't stop working on new ideas because it's the most fun thing I do, but I'd really like to find a way to try out all of them in the next few years, because there will be many more in the future. What should I do? |
