FamilyRe: Men Who Neglect Their Mothers Should Be Cursed by Seun(mod): 11:33pm On Sep 26, 2006
If you have to choose betwen your mother and your wife, choose your wife.

If you know you want to make your mother the main woman in her life, then marry her.

What would you do if your wife says she cares about her mum more than she cares for you?

LiteratureRe: The Spirit (A Short Religious Story) by Seun(mod): 4:03pm On Sep 25, 2006
Why would an "evil" spirit protect Chima in order for him to rule when it can just possess someone else after Chima's death? Is Chima's body the only one available for him to possess? We need to apply reason to our spirituality!

Gramatically, it might be perfect, but I feel it's not very Nigerian, and I haven't been hooked by the story.
TV/MoviesSitcom Vs Soap Opera Vs TV Drama? by Seun(mod): 3:39pm On Sep 25, 2006
A sitcom is usually 22 to 30 minutes long. The stories are divided into episodes that contain one or two major stories that are started and concluded within those 20-something minutes. Every 3 sentences of so, there's a joke that audiences are supposed to respond to by laughing. Laugh tracks are added so people can know when to laugh. The problem I have with this format is that I don't see how one can add one or two stories into a 22 minute show without them being unrealistic. Plus the fact that every character has a ridiculous side - there are no heroes in sitcoms!

A soap opera - which usually runs weekly and lasts for an hour - has an ongoing, complex plot that emphasizes relationships and ends in a cliffhanger each week. If you miss one episode you won't be able to enjoy the ones afer that, so you have to invest a lot of your time in a soap to enjoy it at all. I think a soap opera needs to be like the hottest thing on TV or else it will gradually lose viewers over time.

A plain TV drama also lasts about an hour and may have lots of action or lots of pure drama, but unlike the soap opera each episode tends to stand alone. I like it because the one hour you have gives you more time to tell a complete story. Also, you don't have to tell a joke through your script every 20 seconds. However, I wonder if it'll be hard to get a network to dedicate one hour to a new TV show.

So, if you are a TV producer trying to produce the next big Nigerian TV dramatic show, which forma would you choose? Would you create a 30 minute sitcom, a 1 hour soap opera or a plain episodic tv drama?

BusinessRe: Starting A Cooking Gas (LPG) Distribution Business by Seun(mod): 1:02pm On Sep 25, 2006
Gas is more economical than Kerosine, and we now have gas cookers that are almost as cheap as kerosine stoves. Tha should be enough o convince them. Isn't it ironic that poor people use more expensive stoves?

In that case there's nothing to complain about. You can help the farmers to sell their products and earn a healthy commission in the process. Just use www.alibaba.com. You have no need for the government's help!!

EducationRe: Living In/On Victoria Island by Seun(mod): 9:20pm On Sep 24, 2006
I'm not convinced. Victoria Island is a place name like Nairaland.

"I live on Victoria's island" would be correct.
"I live on the beautiful Island" would also be correct.
"I live on Victoria Island" is not.

Victoria Island in is used the same way as "Lagos" or "Abeokuta", so Orikinla is wrong. A place named Victoria Island might not even be an island.

Drama and TV production would probably make money, but I'm a complete newbie in those areas!!
