In a move set to rock the corporate and entertainment world, Don Jazzy and the Mavins look set to ‘port’ from MTN to Nigerian-owned telecommunications giant, Globacom.
The audacious move comes just months before the contract of Nigeria’s foremost producer is due for renewal with MTN.

According to a source close to negotiations, news of Don Jazzy’s availability came up just as Globacom was preparing offers to add Mavin’s rising musicians Di’Ja, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello to their fold of brand ambassadors.

The source added that not only is Glo eager to sign the young ones all at once, they are determined to break the bank by also offering a record -breaking deal to the Mavin Records CEO.
Don Jazzy, who currently has just two months to run on his MTN deal, recently broke the internet with news of his signing with online retail giant, Konga.

He is considered an overlord of social media influencers and played an active role in creating awareness for the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded elections.
Although the other Mavin acts – Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, D’Prince – all have individual deals with MTN, any move to Glo by the head honcho would most likely result in a mass exodus which would hit the South African telco hard.

The trio of Di’Ja, Reekado Banks and Korede Bello were signed to Mavin Records a year ago and have already planted their feet firmly in the Nigerian music industry, with hit solos and collaborations.
Sierra-Leonean-Nigerian Hadiza Blell (Di’Ja) is the sonorous voice behind the love song, Awww. Her music career started off with relative acclaim in Canada before she moved back to Nigeria in what has turned out to be a most lucrative decision: joining Mavin Records.

Korede Bello, consistently sets the hearts of his female fans racing with songs like African Prince and Cold Outside. He also has an endorsement deal with Woodin under his belt.
Reekado Banks, hailed by many for not just his good voice but his street cred, is best known for his song, Chop Am. The graduate of the University of Lagos is a favourite amongst young Nigerians.
All efforts to get a statement from Mavin Records PR proved abortive as they declined to comment as at the time of publication.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday convicted and sentenced four men to a prison term of 24 years for stealing petroleum products belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The four convicts, who are to share the jail term equally, are Yama Abass, Adeleke Adetoro, Olaniyi Tope and Beliya Abegunde. The men, who stole 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit valued at approximately N3.2m, had been arraigned before Justice Okon Abang last year August along with one Alabi Olayinka, an accountant in a petrol station in Lagos.

But Abang, who convicted Abass, Adetoro, Tope and Abegunde on counts three and four of the charge, discharged and acquitted Olayinka.

The judge, who said the evidence before the court did not link Olayinka to the crime, said Olayinka would have a good case against the police if he sued for “unlawful arrest, detention and malicious prosecution.”

Pronouncing the sentence, Abang refused the plea by the defence counsel to temper justice with mercy, saying “nobody should commit an offence and expect the court to show mercy.”

“They have no sympathy for this country and the citizens. In spite of all the efforts made by the Federal Government to protect the petroleum pipelines and make petrol to get to everybody with ease, the convicts and their cohorts have made consistent efforts to sabotage and frustrate the effort of the Federal Government,” the judge said. Describing them as harbingers of evil, the judge said the convicts cannot not plant thorns and expect to harvest flowers, adding that it was shameful that in spite being blessed with petrol, Nigerian citizens were still suffering from scarcity on account of the activities of vandals.

According to the charge marked FHC/L/220c/2014, the four convicts with some suspects still at large conspired and damaged oil pipelines and stole 33,000 litres of PMS belonging to the NNPC on July 13 along Epe/Ikorodu road in Lagos. They were said to have been apprehended while selling the stolen products to filling stations in the city.

The offence, according to the prosecution contravened sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Section 7 (a) and (b) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act, Cap M 17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Abang, in his judgment, ordered the petrol stations that bought the stolen products to make restitution in the sum of N3.2m to the Federal Government within seven days of the judgment.

The court also ordered the sale of the tanker used in conveying the stolen product by auction within 14 days of the judgment. The prosecution was ordered to pay the proceeds into the coffers of the Federal Government.

The wife of the vice-president of Nigeria, Hajia Amina Sambo has disclosed at a ceremony organised in her honour by the Coalition of Nigerian Muslim Women at the National Mosque in Abuja today, that she will be furthering her education at the end of her husband’s tenure on May 29th.

While addressing the women, Hajia Sambo said she will continue to remain accessible even when her husband leaves office, but will sometimes be busy because she intends to go an acquire more knowledge.

“I will like to continue to leave my doors open in case you will call on me. In case I say I am having exams (I am going back to school); so, do not be offended, I might be studying, but be assured that I will always be with you,” she said.

It was learnt that more rescued victims from insurgents in Sambisa Forest were still being expected from the Nigerian Army, as the Federal Government in conjunction with humanitarian experts from the United Nations were working hard to help reintegrate the women and children with their respective families.

NEMA’s Senior Information Officer, Mr. Sani Datti, confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday that the rescued victims were being catered for in various camps by the agency and the UN.

He noted that the UN Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Daouda Toure, and NEMA’s Director-General, Sani Sidi, assured the rescued women and children of social, psychological and health supports before they reintegrated with their families.

The duo made the pledge when they interacted with internally displaced persons at Malkohi Camp, Yola.
Sidi said the agency had engaged tailors to sew at least five sets of clothes for each of the rescued women and children, as most of them came with only the clothes they wore.

The NEMA boss said a mobile clinic had been deployed for medical screening to identify those who needed treatment, while the agency in collaboration with UN agencies had mobilised a team of experts in psycho- trauma counselling and medical doctors to provide all the necessary medical care to the rescued.

He said most of the rescued children were severely malnourished and had eye infections.
Taure told the rescued women and children that the world and their families had missed them but the UN agencies would support the Nigerian government in providing their needs to facilitate their reintegration with their communities.

He said the UN had directed all its relevant agencies to provide all the needed assistance and support to them.

According to NEMA, infant feeding, children’s clothes, diapers and sanitation items were provided to 21 nursing mothers.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday gave an insight into the fate that awaits him under the incoming government of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), saying he and ministers as well as other aides who served under him would be persecuted.
He said he and his ministers would have hard times because of some critical decisions they took while in office.
Jonathan also looked back at all the benefits that had come his way as a Nigerian, saying he was ready to pay the supreme price for the nation.
The President spoke at a thanksgiving and farewell service organised in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
Jonathan who was accompanied by his wife, Patience, said considering what God had done in his life, he wished he could dance like the biblical King David but he kept missing his steps whenever he made attempts.
He said only a few Nigerians within his age bracket were as lucky as he is because he had not suffered any lack, not because he is hardworking but by the grace of God.
He said after reflecting on the benefits which included the scholarships he enjoyed in school and the various political offices he had occupied, he should be able to do anything in the interest of the country, including paying the supreme price.
He added that he is leaving office of the President as a fulfilled and very happy man.
Jonathan said, “I want to thank God for what he has done for me and my family. I wish to dance more than David, if I tried to dance, I missed my steps.
“I have all the reasons to thank God. Very few of those in my age brackets have been that lucky. All through my education I was on government scholarship. I have not suffered lack not because I am hardworking, but by God’s grace.
“When I look at the whole picture of my life up to when I became the President of this country, I say that if soldiers and police officers that have not received 0. 5 percent of the benefits that I have received from the state can lay their lives for this country, I should do anything in the interest of Nigeria, including paying the supreme price.
“As long as live, I will continue to do my best for the state because the state has helped me as a person.
“I have to thank Nigerians especially my state for giving me the opportunity to serve as deputy governor and the whole country gave me the opportunity to serve as Vice President and then President, first was to complete the tenure of the late president and later serve as President from which I am exiting now as a very happy and fulfilled man.”
Saying that hard decisions have their own cost, Jonathan said he was ready to pay for some of the costly decisions he took while in charge of the country.
He said experience had shown him that people would at a time desert anybody who takes tough decisions like he did.
He said he had always hold the belief that more of his friends would desert him as time goes on.
He recalled the story of the last ruler of apartheid South Africa who was divorced by his wife for accepting to abolish minority rule in the country, and said jokingly that he hoped his wife will not also divorce him after he might left office.
Mrs. Jonathan replied with a shout of “Nooooo”.
Her response was greeted with a loud applause by congregation members.
The President also prepared the minds of the ministers and aides who served under him, saying though times await them all.
He said, “I believe there are reasons for everything. Some hard decisions have their own cost, no doubt about that.
“That I have ran the government this way that stabilised certain things, the electoral process and other things that brought stability into this country. They were very costly decisions which I myself must be ready to pay for.
“Some people come to me and say this or that person, is he not your friend that benefitted? Is it not your government that this person benefitted from? But this is what the person is saying.
“But I used to say that worse statements will come. If you take certain decisions, you should know that those close to you will even abandon you at some point.

“And I tell them that more of my so-called friends will disappear. When FW De Clark took the decision to abolish minority rule in RSA, even his wife divorced him. I hope my wife will not divorce me. But that is the only decision that has made RSA to still remain a global player by this time. If we still had that minority rule there, by this time, nobody will be talking about RSA.
“If you take certain decisions, it might be good for the generality of the people but it might affect people differently. So for ministers and aides who served with me, I sympathise with them, they will be persecuted. And they must be ready for that persecution.
“Quoting Tai Solarin, may your ways be rough. To my ministers, I wish you what I wish myself. They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough.”
Jonathan however said he was happy that the ordinary people appreciate what he did and that, according to him, is the most important.
He said it was not what the elite or the privileged few talk or say about his administration that matters but what the majority of the Nigerian public think about his actions and inactions.
He expressed delight that he came to Abuja with his family peacefully and they are returning peacefully.
The President thanked the church and Nigerians for standing by him even at his most difficult times.
He said even on the March 28 presidential election which he lost to Buhari, there were many people who supported him nationwide.
Despite exiting the Presidential Villa, Jonathan promised that he would continue to pray for the country and the Buhari administration.
He said the outcome of the election went that way because God wanted it to be so for a purpose.
“Even for the election, we had people who supported us all over the country but things went the way they did because God wanted it that way for a purpose.
“We will continue to pray for the peace of the country and for the success of the incoming administration.
“When the country is in good shape, people benefit. When things are going well, people are happy. You don’t need to know Mr. President or Mr. Governor.
“The issue is not about Jonathan or Buhari or any other person. The issue is how the government functions: stability, buoyant economy that will enable Nigeria to move forward and live happy. That is our interest, that is my prayer point.
“All religious groups should pray for the country,” he concluded.
Jonathan thereafter requested that his favourite him, “Stand by me” be sung again.
He said apart from inspiring him, the hymn makes him aware of the fact that whatever one does there will be storms.
He said the assurance in the hymn was that once such a person means well for the people, God will always stand by him.

Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Sunday night said that despite the various challenges facing the country, the national economy will not collapse.

The minister, in a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Communications, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, said this during a chat with some journalists.

In the statement, she said that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan had put in place solid economic legacies for the incoming government, noting that allegations that the economy was in ruins were untrue.

She said, “Despite the economic challenges the country is facing, the Jonathan administration is leaving some solid economic legacies for the incoming Buhari government. So, the allegations that the economy is in ruins are absolutely untrue.

“The significant achievements in several sectors attest to this. We cannot take away the fact that the Jonathan administration, in spite of the challenges caused by 50 per cent decline in the price of oil, has made a clear and measurable difference in many important areas and anyone who says nothing has been done and nothing is being left behind is being very unfair to facts and to history.

“Attempts to rewrite history will not stand. You cannot just wipe the slate clean for political reasons. We are not perfect but no one can take away the fact that we are leaving some good legacies behind.”

The minister also advised politicians and opinion leaders not to denigrate the economy because negative and false comments on the economy could have negative impact the economy, the exchange rate, the stock market and reduce investor confidence.

She said, “These negative and unsubstantiated comments are not wise because they can lead to what we do not want for the economy.

“There is nothing wrong with factual assessments of the economy; I have always told Nigerians the truth about the economy. But sweeping and negative statements are not in the interest of the country.”

Tragedy struck in Badagry, Lagos, yesterday, when a three-month-old infant, Abiodun Alabi was burnt to death. The fire incident occurred at Wazobia Junction, Tako 11, when a new mother, who lives in a self contained apartment with her 10year old son and 3 month old daughter, went to a night vigil and left her 10 year old son to watch the infant.
It's alleged that before she left the apartment, she lit a candle in the apartment because there was no electricity. Her husband wasn't home at this time because he travelled a lot as a transporter.
The 10 year old boy left both his younger sister and the candle at home and headed for a neighbour’s apartment to watch television and eventually passed the night with them.
Unfortunately the candle burnt out completely which led to a fire outbreak that consumed the entire apartment which burnt the infant to death before help could come

To reset your phone
1. In the App list , tap Settings .
2. Tap About , then tap Reset your phone .
3. You'll receive two warnings. If you're
absolutely sure you want to restore
your phone to its factory settings, tap
Yes, then tap Yes again.
It might take a little while for the
process to complete.
To reset an unresponsive phone:
If your phone is unresponsive and you
can't reach Settings , you may be
able to reset your phone using the
hardware buttons. On Nokia Lumia
phones (and some others), do the
following to reset your phone:
1. Press and hold the Volume down
and Power buttons at the same time until you feel a vibration (about 10-15 seconds).
2. When you feel the vibration,
immediately press and hold the Volume
