1)Yes, Your dom account can receive from US.
2)Once the student's dom account is funded... go ahead and initiate a GiC application from a participating Canadian financial institution then wire the money using the payment instruction provided by the Canadian bank. Thanks a lot. God bless you 1 Like |

You don't need all that stress.
Open a USD domiciliary account, buy dollar and fund the account ....then initiate a GIC process with a participating Canadian bank and wire your dollars to the bank from your dom account..there are charges for it Can you pls explain how this GIC funding works. 1. Can the funds of $20k be wired from the US into the students dom account? 2. Can the student wire the $20k received to dom account into the Canadian GIC account OR how does it work? |

Teshoma111: I have a friend, who didn't use hers at all as well (2years B1/B2). After her visa expired, she applied via dropbox, it was renewed and got the regular email that her passport was ready for pickup without being called for any interview.
It works both ways....You may or may not be called for an interview. A similar situation happened to my cousin and family. They were called for an interview and Visa granted. My own case was I chose to be interviewed rather than do the drop box as the recent trend was calling most people back for interview and i couldn't afford to waste much time back & forth with scheduling for a closer date....got the Visa again! 4 Likes |

Thanks for your response I believe I have a good reason for not using the visa at the said time ,I was pregnant and we decided not travel until I have the baby .That seems like a good enough reason? My uncle, his wife and 1st child were in the same shoes. They had 2yrs visa but didn't use it. Along the line, baby no 2 came and they all went to renew with the new baby. Vo asked why they didn't travel and my uncle mentioned he didn't intend his wife birthing with the B1/B2 visa as their intention was for a vacation. Their visas were renewed and baby also got d visa. You can try ur luck(ensure to take copies of ur visas like someone suggested). All d best 2 Likes |

Landmark445: Hello guys,
I have a friend in the US. An American citizen who can send me an invitation letter.
I am looking on visiting the US in August.
My questions are 1. Will the letter be sent to me or to the embassy 2. Is there any particular format to follow when writing an invitation letter and is there any authentication that needs to be done on it in the US before he sends it to me. 3. These days, do invitation letters still serve any purpose? Will it increase my chances of getting the VISA?
Thanks guys The invitation letter should be sent to you(N/B- The VO is not interested in it & wont even ask you for it) Your invitation letter is not adding to your chances of getting a visa In fact ,don't stress yourself bout the letter (dint even print out my own when i went) Focus more on your binding ties and travel history. Babbie23:
Sorry I couldn't post yesterday, I was exhausted to the bone So here it goes : I must say I enjoyed the process so much though tiring from all the queuing. I'm in Ghana, 23 and a student. Straight DENIAL! This whole idea of visiting the US was from my parents. I won't lie I doubted I stood a chance after going through people's experiences but I had already done a lot and was only awaiting my interview day. I was positive all the same because my intentions were good. I thank God all the same . Interview day I woke up around 4 or 4:30am I don't remember because my mum woke me up while I was just trying to enjoy my sleep. So fast forward to 6am when I and parents reached the embassy. First timer, completely lost and confused. I asked a personnel what I had to do before my 7:30 appointment and he told me to hang around a tree where I saw lots of people standing and waiting. I went ahead and stood there for a while till some police officer asked those who had their interview to form a queue. I did go through the checks etc it was already past 7:30 and I was already waiting my turn to be interviewed. I wasn't paying attention to those being interviewed except one pastor who was approved a visa and one university lady who was denied and another guy who was also denied. So after the guy who was denied, I was asked to go to that VO. One chubby guy with beard and in his mid 30's . Honestly he was cool. VO: Hi good morning Me: good morning(cheerfully) how are you? VO: fine thank you (looking at his computer typing) May I have your passport please? Me: sure(smiles) I caughed lightly and said sorry and he said no problem (still typing) he wasn't looking too serious as I said he was cool VO: So why are you going to the US Me: I'd love to spend my long summer break sightseeing and exploring interesting places in the US and also I'll be visiting my uncle VO: typing what I said and even repeating what I said I was smiling (now I know they type our answers for future purposes) Where in the US are you going to? Me: Columbus ,Ohio VO: What do you do? Me: I'm a student of bla bla VO: What course do you offer? Me: I'm a 1st year student pursuing a 4-year degree programme in information technology but I'll be progressing to my 2nd year after the break VO: okay. He nodded still typing. Have you traveled before? Me: No sir. VO: okay. Are you married? Me: I'm very single with a grin VO: looks at me and smiles Okay do you have kids? Me: No sir (smiles) VO: okay. I'm sorry bla bla (y'all know the rest already lol) As he was handing me my passport and the 214b paper I asked wasn't being a student a strong enough tie to return (even though I knew the answer already lol still wanted to know all the same) Surprisingly he suggested another thing for me. Asking if I've heard of the J-1 visa for exchange program to which I nodded and said yes ,that I did plan on applying for that next year and he went ahead to say it'll be the best choice for me as a student and not only would I be able to visit some places in the US but I'll also be able to work (summer work and travel) So I said ok and thank you with a smile and elegantly left the premises to announce the outcome to my mum who was waiting anxiously for some good news. She felt bad but I assured her it's alright and the next time I'll go through with the J-1 visa successfully. So that's it. No docs checked as usual. This forum helped a lot. Kudos to the brains behind it and to those awaiting, all the best.
Your interview was interesting despite the denial. The VO seemed to be very friendly & also advised you on the way forward(getting a J-1 visa)....I'm suprised! All the best in your next step to trying again. Thanks 4 sharing. 3 Likes |

Hi, Urecee you should have already booked an appointment with the embassy by now, if you have not done so i don't think you will get an appointment date before august now, but that aside, if you are current with the news Canada has asked the US in Nigeria to be more strict in giving visa now and all the fake document no longer apply, so, 1, make sure all document you are taking are real and take all the originals, 2, Since you say your husband has some money, have him deposit some money into your account like 500k up wards. 3, a part from the first deposit your husband needs to be making monthly cash deposits into your account to build up flow and traffic on your bank statement.because from what i hear now if you are given visa the embassy collects your bank statement and checks with the bank so if you have a fake bank statement you can be ban from the US. 4, what ever amount you have on your bank statement make sure you leave it in your account till you collect your visa from DHL if you are given. 5. As a woman going alone make sure you stress that you are married with kids and your husband can not follow you for now because he is busy with work and make sure you also show that you are make some form of income here in Nigeria. 6. don't tell them you are going to stay with anyone, do a hotel booking online for the period of your stay, you have to make them see that you plan of returning to your country. I hope this few points help out. good luck.
Can someone please confirm the bolded part is true? Anyone who has gone recently...Was this your experience? |

you might need to wait till he gets his citizenship. PR holders can not file adjustment of status for Alien relatives from inside the US (it take a longer as a PR petitioning for Spouse)
if you decide to use your Tourist visa and stay behind, you'd have to wait anyways but the question might come up during your adjustment interview once your husband becomes citizen while you decide to stay. you need to figure a good answer to that.
you can either wait till your Fiancee become a US citizen, go through the process of a fiancee petition or Overseas USC marriage or come to the US and prepare to start your life while waiting for your Hubby citizenship.
If you choose the latter (which i will do if i were in your shoes), please don't rush to get married when you get here. Observe the 90 days rule. Start the process 4months after to be on the safer side.
All the best
either ways, you'll need to have enough patience to wait for the process. Thanks a lot 4 your response. Been waiting to hear from you. Really appreciate....God bless! |

Hello, Please I need advise on what step to take. My fiance is in US and we plan to get married later in the year. I've been to the US twice last year on a visit visa which I just renewed again this year. My question now is which route is the fastest to getting an immigrant visa to enable me join him legally. We were thinking of going to court dis summer when I visit again but learnt there's a new 90-days rule stating you can't come in with your visiting visa and get married to a US citizen before 90days during your visit. I'm not sure about how long it'll take to process the fiancee or spouse visa. Pls I need your advise on my best option to go about this. |

IamVenus: I am a silent reader of this thread. I had my interview yesterday in Lagos. I work in Abuja but Lagos had an earlier date.
Everyone kept telling me Abuja would have been a better choice but I just wanted to get this over and done with.
The important things I learned from reading through all these threads were:
1: it’s not a do or die thing. Don’t seem desperate 2. Fill your form yourself and be completely honest 3. Make sure you can show ties to your home country and have a valid reason for your trip.
Once you get these three, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be given.
Honestly, as I was waiting my turn, I listened to those been interviewed ahead of me and I could tell the ones they wouldn’t give visas to. It was as clear as day.
Well my transcript :
VO: Good morning, pass your passport please Me: Good morning ( with a formal (not nervous)smile on my face VO: where are you going to Me: Miamiiiii, Florida!!! (I actually said it in a laid back vacation tone) VO: (smiles) you seem to be in a jolly mood this morning Me: yes I am VO: why miami? Me: well cos my mum’s birthday is coming up and she’s turning 60. She’s a sucker for oceans and I’m planning a 7 night Bahamas cruise leaving from Miami. She absolutely going to love it VO: who else is going Me: it’s going to be my mum, my brother n his wife. VO: do they have visas Me: yes they all do. They are frequent travelers VO: have you travelled out of the country before: Me: yes I have. I’ve been to China, dubai ( multiple times), Zanzibar, Ghana and India VO: why did you go to China Me: I had just finished school and I went to see if I could start a business. So I went to survey. Got back after the survey and got a job, so I didn’t pursue that VO: when was your last trip Me: last year September, my mum was having a health scare so I took her to India to get evaluated. VO: wow that’s nice, how’s she now Me: she’s doing great VO: she’ll really enjoy this trip then VO: when were you called to bar Me: 2009 VO: and you work at ....... Me: yes I work at...., we are into ..... and I’m the ........ VO: hmm sounds nice. How long have you been working there Me: since after my youth service, so that’s 8 years VO: do you do litigation Me: nahhh, I don’t. Bores the socks out of me Vo: *laughs* VO: do you have children? Me: nope! No children, hopefully soon cos im getting married in Decemberrrrrrr (flashing my engagement ring) VO: wow that’s nice. Your mum could help you with bridal shopping in Miami. Congrats and enjoy your vacation ( gives me white paper) Me: thank you. Have a lovely day.
She didn’t ask how much I earned, nor did she ask for any supporting documents ( I was a bit worried cos I didn’t even carry any) I went to the embassy with just my 3passports, GTB visa fee receipt, 1 passport photograph, ds160 submission confirmation and appointment confirmation print outs. Finish.
Side note : I’m female and not married so that’s why I didn’t just answer, no I don’t have kids. I made sure I let her know that I’m engaged to be married which will be in December. People say don’t talk much but there are some things that you need to let the VO know.
I also advice that before you ask any questions here, read all the threads from beginning to end. I read even the 2 closed threads and all my questions were pretty much answered.
Thank you all
Congrats sis. Your transcript reminds me of mine 2yrs ago. The VO asked where do u work & what role exactly. I replied him & dats how my interview session was totally about my job function as the VO was very familiar with my job role. He really bombarded me with those questions and I gladly answered cus I was saying the truth. The next part was are you married or single & I practically screamed SINGLE(cus I'd heard lots of stories that they usually refuse single applicants). He smiled & said okay maa'm enjoy your vacation. The truth pays....all the time(imagine I lied about dat job function & couldn't answer all d questions appropriately). 3 Likes |
