hardcore is important but building can do without it especially in areas where boulder is very expensive. Most houses here in Rivers don't have
hardcore in them. For bungalow without hardcore the laterite filling or sharp sand filling should be compacted very well manually or using a vibrator at interval of 150mm (6" and wet properly.

Columns are not necessary in bungalows because they are built on the assumptions that the partition walls are load bearer. Since, sancrete block sold in Nigeria are of lower quality it is safer and preferable to include some columns at critical span to reduce direct load on the partition walls. The cost of such columns in many cases are considerably low compare to the work they do ( check above the cost i gave for the columns in the building above)

roosebolton: Kia and Hyundai are very strong brands and make very reliable cars which are now on similar footing with their Japanese counterparts. It just so happened that they started by making cheap unreliable cars and because the auto industry has a long memory.. It's has been hard to shake out that past perception. Japanese cars also had Similar problems in the 60s and 70s. I wouldn't worry about their performance. What I would worry about is their second hand value which (thanks to general perception about the car) is not good. The car loses close 60% of its value within 6 of months of use. Also the after warranty maintenance can be expensive compared to Japanese cars. But if u intend on keeping the car for long. U don't have to worry about the second hand value. And might be good to get an extended warranty after the expiration of the initial 3 years warranty.

Its still a surprise to me,that a supposed literate nigerian would post things on nairaland like "make dem pursue mtn comot for nigeria"... Like seriously? Only a Telecoms professional would understand the plight of MTN. Their sites are being targeted and some misguided nigerians are happy.
