Some more bad news from a few days ago lads. We've lost one of our ATR-42 ISR/ELNIT aircraft to a runway accident two days ago. There were no fatalities thankfully. Apparently the plane's wing struck some vegetation when taxiing down the runway. From the extensive damage, the airframe is probably going to be written off. |

Stephandesward: Im thinking short ranged infrared guided A2A missiles and and some long range BVR R-Darter missiles. Also, with targeting pods, its almost a certainty that we'll be getting GBU-10 and GBU-12. Worth noting though that we unfortunately won't be getting any RAAD-II nuclear missiles 3 Likes |

Lurker4Long: Dunno if you saw the claim by Joscofelix that NAF had not only received RAAD-II nuclear cruise missiles with the JF-17, but had deployed and used it against bandits just a few hours after the JF-17 was delivered. Oh, and he somehow had the security clearance from NAF to gain him access into TAC Makurdi to see the jets even before NAF top brass did 6 Likes |

JOSCOFELIX: Thats a different ship in the class. NNS Centenary and Unity only came with the main gun on the bow and two 30mm guns on the port and starboard side each based on NN's specifications from CSIC when the projectwas commissioned. The ships have NO missiles and are strictly OPV's. Try to do a bit of research please. 2 Likes |

motymop: I chose not to respond to him. You simply can't have an intellectual discourse with a bigot that chooses to generalise an entire population over the actions of a radical few. Have there not been ethnic clases in other parts of Nigeria, independent of religion of creed? I have to consciously remind myself that this is still Nairaland.com, the HQ of ethno-religious bigotry on the Nigerian cyberspace. Its really sad how the thread has lost almost all its past qualities and intellectual commentators. 6 Likes |

SamuelAnyawu: Religious preaching for where? You think the entire town is dumb or what? Even without NA, let ISWAP come into the town without guns and try to openly preach their ideology to these people, people who have lost fathers, mothers and siblings to the group's violence. Do you think they'd make it out alive? They'd be ripped to shredds the same way Boko Haram members were killed by Maiduguri residents during the Giwa Barraks incident. Its like you underestimate the power and influence a man has over people when he's armed and they're at his mercy. 2 Likes |

SamuelAnyawu: If hundreds of armed terrorists were to enter your apartment in the dead of night to meet you and your family with the fact that you know no one's ever coming to help you. Now the terrorist ask you a simple question, "where is your neighbour, take us to his room". Tell me, would you form hard guy and be a hero or comply? The crux of this issue is NA's inability to protect civilian targets, leaving the civilians do what they can to save their lives, including working with an enemy you know could kill you at the slightest disobedience. Its easy for us to judge the actions of people if we're not in their shoes. 2 Likes |

SamuelAnyawu: I don't buy this. I personally don't see how the civilians were left with much of a choice if ISWA had control of the town for those hours and could do anything they wanted. Given what ISWAP has done in the past, what do you think would happen to them if the refused to cooperate while being held at gun point. Things aren't that simple abeg. Additionally, all it would take was one spy or informant who's also part of the group to give them all the information they needed. 2 Likes |

SamuelAnyawu: Yes, I mentioned earlier, NAF doesn't commit its ground troops to the NE. NAF QRF once served alongside NA during the JTF days. After that, its rare seeing them anywhere apart from Maiduguri and Air Combat Controllers embedded with NA |

Kalapizim: NAF Regiment is only present in MDGR Airbse for force protection. For ground combat duties, they're deployed to the NW against bandits, especially the current operation in Birnin Gwari. However, NAF does deploy a intelligence units along with NA troops on operations in Borno. These aren't Regiment or QRF, but rather serve as Air Combat Controllers. They relay coordinates of enemy forces and coordinate close air support missions while in constant communication with ISR and NAF combat jets. One of such officers was KIA in 2019 unfortunately. NAF Regiment has no current mandate in Borno as far as I know apart from force protection duties in Maiduguri. If they're in Mongonu as you say, then they're probably also there to provide force protection to UN helicopter landing zones. 1 Like |

Roan77: He referenced a separate operation that has already been reported across social media against ISWAP. The group responsible for downing the jet was JAS in the Konduga AOR. NA units and MNJTF Sector 1 troops remain engaged in that area as usual. No "revenge operation" has been planned or will be as usual combat operations continue in full force in the AOR. NAF Regiment has also never been deployed to Northern Borno in its history as he falsely alludes. This war, its actors, Army units, objectives, size and disposition of the enemy isn't that difficult to understand if you're willing to do the research and not get your info from people who claim NAF has RAAD II Nuclear cruise missiles on Nairaland. Its unfortunate that people take inspiration from SSBN to spew blatant falsehood and stupidity and distract people from actual happenings in the NE 8 Likes |

JOSCOFELIX: this guy just won't give up with his fake and misleading "reports" even after being humiliated for his falsehood many times over. If I didn'tknow any better, I'd say you're a masochist. Also, as I specified earlier, the 72nd Mobile Strike force no longer exists as a unit in any shape or form. All its remaining units were absorbed into the 707 Special Operations Battalion years ago. This puts your entire "report" about "revenge operations" with battalions that no longer exist as flat falsehood, an operation which only you seems to have heard about All operations are still proceeding as planned with troops of Sector 1 MNJTF in the Sambisa AOR, under Op TT Phase II. Tactical planning isn't goverend by emotions but rather by logic. Additionally CSAR is now over as both pilots are now confirmed dead. All efforts now remain focused on recovering their bodies. Whenever you spew blatant falsehood, I'll always be there to counter you. 16 Likes 1 Share |

joscofelix2: As usual, your information is extremely wrong. For starters while its known that JAS had acquired a few 9K32 Strela MANPADs a few years ago, their serviceability was in question as the launchers were all missing their thermal batteries which is a critical component and hard to acquire, without which, the launchers proportional navigation guidance system wouldn't function. The entire canister is as good as a toy. The only known use of a MANPAD by JAS was back in 2015 during a high intensity combat operation on the Mandara Mountains. JAS unsuccessfully launched one Strela MANPAD against a strafing A-jet and that was it. Secondly, if you has watched the video, you would see the A-Jet already trailing smoke before it went down. The explosion was a doctored image. The wreckage of the jet was also intact on the ground along with the pilots' bodies. This is indicative of the fact that DID NOT explode mid-air as seen in JAS's doctored image. It was more likely a catastrophic mechanical failure brought about by maybe a lucky enemy AAA hit on a critical component or a technical fault that prevented a safe ejection before the crash. Additionally as you may not be aware, all NAF pilots and aircraft have beacons and transponders incase of emergencies. The problem was that the jet went down in a contested battle space, behind enemy lines, so friendly ground force were not able to reach the crash site 48 hours later even as JAS snapped pictures. A part of me is happy the pilots didn't safely eject and land into the hands of the enemy. In conclusion, no it was not a MANPAD and there will not be any "revenge mission" as you falsely allude apart from ongoing operations within the Tura Takaibango II's mandate. NAF has also not received any "latest armament" yet as its still using rockets, Mk.82 bombs and ATGM's it has always used with great effect and no, we don't have "nuclear RAAD II missiles" Please respect the thread for once and not use this tragedy to score cheap Internet points. 17 Likes 1 Share |
