Sequel to the previous post (which featured here in Nairaland) where we listed out some values that are currently in its all time low with regards to Nigerian women; it became expedient that we list out values which most Nigerian men held in high regard in the past but seems to be dwindling with each passing year.

Below are top 5 of them.

1. Responsibility:

Statistics reveal that the number of children without someone to call "father" increase by the day. With the ongoing trend of "baby mamas" and "baby daddies", many children do not feel the love of a father, thanks to irresponsibility of many fathers who birth children they can't take care of.


However, some do have fathers who are at home, but without commitment to the future of their children.

2. Contentment:


The holy book says be content with what you have. With the economic crises facing Nigeria, and the massive unemployment already taking its toll, it is no longer strange to see Nigerian men who want to get money by any means necessary. This has damaged the value most Nigerian men had in the past.

The lack of contentment is indeed one of the numerous reasons why crime is on the increase in the country with money made in these proceeds sometimes spent on "strange women"

3. Commitment:


This particular type of commitment is beamed upon relationships that lead to marriage. In time past, Nigerian men showed more commitment to their spouses and wives placing valuable value on what they have. Today however, the blessedness of commitment has been lost to the altar of infidelity.

4. Self Esteem:


Critically take a look at it. It seems as though there were more brave men in the past than we do have now. The value of self esteem hinges on the fact that a man believes in himself to achieve his ambition and diligently walks towards it. A real man is not meant to chicken out of a situation but face it head-on with the aim to conquer.


5. Wisdom:


As time passes, the wisdom of our fathers and grandfathers seems to be passing away with it. The ancient wisdom of the past seems to be lost in today's Nigerian society. We cannot ascertain for sure why this is so, perhaps we could blame modern culture, but it is a value that is gradually fading.

Guys please, i noticed something today. I was walking on Falomo bridge this morning and something keeps on telling me to jump into the ocean and that it would be fun. I wanted to consider it because in my mind i also think it would be fun to dive into the ocean. It was so strong and i almost did but then i thought about the implication. Ok so I came home cos we've closed for the semester. And in the evening I came into the living room and saw dad sitting on the couch watching TV so I sat on his laps. then mum walks in and pulls me by my ear and tells me never to sit on Dad's laps again.

I felt very bad and angry. did I commit any crime if I can't sit on my Dad's laps who's laps should I sit on.

Thank GOD the selection for another Olowo this time around was peaceful unlike what happened in the late 90s after the late Olowo was chosen, which led to riot and turbulence in Owo because the indigenes felt the deserving family was bypassed for his family to produce an Olowo as it wasn't his family's turn to produce one.

The selection of an Olowo is a rotational thing between 3 houses (families) I think. The late Olowo was from the Olateu-Olagbegi house, so it's the turn of the Ogunoyes I guess. When this chosen Olowo is gone, the next house will produce the next Olowo, and the rotation continues like that.

I don't know why Nigerians rarely play in the Spanish laliga..

They are tactically batter than the EPL by far as one can easily see in Chukwueze... All our EPL players got to offer is physicality and tackling abilities..

I know Chukwueze will be dreaming of playing in the EPL already coz it's every player's dream..

But if I were his next of kin, I would advise him to continue plying his trade in Spain while aiming for the top two giant clubs in Spain..

I've been longing to see a Nigerian play in Barcelona or Real Madrid since I became a football fan..

On almost every social media heart breaks I thought this was due to lack of financial stability, but then I saw a lecturer following the route, it dawn on me that it was never about money. Depression is a, and it has a lot to do with every area of our life…starting from the everyday decisions we make, the attitude of people around us, how often we hear the word NO, and much more.

But for whatever reason, suicide should never be an option! Killing yourself means you’re a failure, a coward, an ingrate, a careless, a thoughtless, visionless, purposeless, and a very selfish person!

There is always a wide range of alternatives, options, and solutions to your depression rather than killing yourself.

If you think you’re poor, you’re not the poorest; if you think you’re rich, you’re not the richest; if you think you’re pretty, you’re not the most beautiful; if you feel you have problems, you will sober when you hear the problem of others. Whatever situation you are in life, there are always millions of people behind you! The fact that you don’t know or see others with the same problem doesn’t mean you’re the only one in the world who have such issues.

If you ever thought of suicide, you’ve only decided to transfer your problems or depression to others; you didn’t solve the problem!

1. What about the people who are supposed to look up to you?
2. What happens to the people you suppose to help succeed in life?
3. How about the people you’re supposed to be there for?
4. What happens to all of these people when you’re dead?

Before you think about suicide once again, bear it in mind that you’re only creating additional problems with the one on the ground. Be a survivor, look for solutions, seek alternatives, change location, talk to people, and stop isolating yourself!

There is a gazillion of ways to solve a problem, why create more and suffer your family by committing suicide instead of solving the problem and proof to everyone you’re a winner and not a loser? You can’t win if you quit remembering? Victory is not for quitters! Wake up and bounce back! You can do it! You’re strong! You’re courageous! Don’t allow your memory to be erased and replaced with negative thoughts! There is a talent buried in you, dig it up, and show the world!
