GH PATRIOT: @Shagati, please how do y0u mean everything went by the B00k in Aflao?, and also did you not stop by a pitstop to refuel and also to eat? And did you take the Motorway in Accra? If you did how was your speed? Thank Y0u.By the book means: You register with immigration...yourself You touch base with Customs...yourself Customs official comes outside to write down the bike vin to cross check with the documents before entering it into the system (Oh, forgot to mention, Ghana side of Aflao is fully computerised so entries done with one agency is uploaded live and is available by the time you get to the next agency) You make payments to the ECOBANK....yourself (be ready for long queues as Aflao is a busy border) You get issued a temporary importation of vehicle certificate from Customs etc etc My point is, at the other locations, you can use an agent for facilitation The GS Adventure has a 33Litre tank which is good for 500km if you baby the throttle reasonably. So, both GSes filled up at the Conoil at Seme and didn't refuel till the next day in Accra The ZX14 has a 21Litre tank and refuelled once on crossing Aflao. Aflao is 160km to Accra The 1000cc bikes have 18L tanks and fuelled up twice during the trip We had cookies/sandwiches and packed juice to snack on during the trip. No stopping to eat. Too much adrenaline I guess ![]() Yes @ Motorway. Speeds well within the limit sir |
Yep, I saw these guys at A&C mall in Accra last weekend. Wasn't surprised they rode from Lagos, saw the Nigeria license plates on their bikes... I know my people have guts. I have driven across Lagos-Accra route a number of times myself, and currently drive my Lagos licensed car around Ghana. Kudos guys!!!
Was that you with the black Merc G63 with Lagos plates? ![]() |
Fhemmmy: But please make sure there are more pix than talking ohDone Sir |
Was it at Osu near Frankies? Bellorama?
Hmmm...you know your Ghana ![]() Had a meal at Frankies on Sunday There was a bike event at Bellorama same Sunday which we showed up for. The club I'm talking about is further up the road. Most of the patrons were expatriates. (up to 99%) Ratio changed though when we rocked up though. All 15 of us Naijarians ![]() |
ricki: not enough picture to tell the interesting trip.I'm sure you're much happier now? ![]() |
spongeback: Hope you went to osu! Ghana New York.Yes we did...twice. ![]() There was a club we went to Friday night (forgotten the name) Also had dinner at the KFC on the high street |
Nice one Shagati. Were there any 4 wheeled vehicles in your trip? Would be nice to do such a trip with a combination of cars and bikes (with me safely in a car )Would love to take part (next time) if cars are allowed...
No, no cars on the trip. Cars would slow you down. Bikes don't queue at the borders. Ride through and you are immediately processed Bikes don't attract attention at check points in most places. Very little space to hide contraband like frozen poultry, textiles and such see? It takes 3 minutes maximum to completely search a bike and rider at the points where we were stopped and frisked. Bikes can pick up the pace like no car on deserted mountain roads #Whistling a concerto# |
spongeback: This hotel is in east legon' right?Yes ma'am |

Landed in Accra, straight to the hotel, hit the showers, and then some dinner. This is the most interesting rendition I have seen of mashed potatoes and seafood sauce. Yum! ![]()

We had a spectator/fan with a difference at the Aflao border. He followed/stuck with us for the entire 2hours we spent at the border!!! On learning we were from Nigeria, he proceeded to tell us about every single Nigerian; Male, Female and Child that had ever crossed the border in either direction and wanted to know if we knew them ![]() One person he kept repeating was a lady that drove a red Range Rover and was going to Abuja from Accra. He practically insisted that we knew her. Ok, what is her name? "No clue, I just know she drove a red Range Rover and was going to Abuja" LOL!
|
Arrival at the almighty Aflao Border. Almighty because every crossing formality is done by the book and in person. Operation of Vehicle VINs are physically cross checked with papers by customs and payments are to the bank etc etc We had been told to prepare for a 3-4 hour waiting time. Providence was on our side....all was completed in just over 2hours ![]() Same as with all borders, no pictures allowed... ![]()

FINALLY! Stopped for pictures at a non-border location I don't know where this was but it was a bay overlooking the Atlantic some kms into Togo. Beautiful scenery! A policeman passing on an Okada-type bike stopped to ask who we were and why we were taking pictures. Us: Shuo?! We're Tourists na? ![]() Policeman: Yes, but why are you taking pictures? And why pictures of this place? ![]() Us: Errr....ok....Taking pictures so that when we get back home, people will believe we really came to beautiful Lome ![]() Policeman: Ok Ok, that's alright! ![]() I thought he would ask us to follow him in which case he would have had a very hard time keeping up #Cough, Cough# ![]()

Formalities completed and we head out towards the Benin/Togo border @ Hillacondji (I have seen quite a number of wrong spellings here. Please note the correct spelling). Trip through Benin was dampened by the 18 km stretch of dirt road that I had mentioned before. You know how it is when you first hit it and you're thinking..it's gonna end soon...soon...and it doesn't for 18 clicks!! Needless to say, too frustrating to stop for pictures There is a picture though taken during the return trip. Kindly wait for the sequence. Plan was to go all crazy at Hillacondji and take 1000 pictures to make up for the lack of any within Cotonou but I had just managed to squeeze off the first shot when I was hounded by the Benin Police and shown the sign that says NO PICTURES! Arrrgh!! So I pocket my camera and sulk while we were being processed. Total time spent @ Hillacondji was 1 hour Picture of the Police Post ![]()

Apologies for the break in transmission. Where was I? Yes, Seme border. The Nigerian side was cleared without much fanfare. We then crossed to the Benin Republic side where we had to obtain the Laissez-passer. Total time spent at Seme was about 70 minutes.

Originalsly: OK...a touring bike....Yes, Hypersports Tourer. Don't forget the hypersports ![]() Originalsly: was thinking was like a racing bike!...Faster and more comfortable than a racing bike Originalsly: and maybe the rider developed back problems and couldn't make the return trip......No, I said earlier that he returned to Lagos a day before the rest of us Originalsly: Did you guys ride at nights too?....lNot during the trip to and fro but yes we rode within Accra at night Originalsly: and how well you managed bad roads? ...There was an 18km stretch of road that had been stripped for reconstruction in Benin Republic. (I am sure there is a picture or two to follow) It was very dry and dusty on the outbound journey and very muddy/slippery on the return journey because it rained 2 days before. Almost like Motocross ![]() All other roads were fine except the Okoko to Seme stretch which was pot-hole infested. Not a problem for two wheels though as you can go around potholes without slowing down. Originalsly: ...any pleasant surprises along the way?...scary moments?...None that I can recall Originalsly: what's the fastest speed you clocked?....We were well within the speed limits at all times. #Cough! Cough!# ![]() Originalsly: if you do the trip again what would you do different? End of interview! LolI can't think of anything to be done differently. This trip is done and dusted. Next Stop? Mali? Burkina Faso? Morocco? ![]() |

Originalsly: What happened to the Kawasaki Ninja?...sold?...traded?..shipped back? I am thinking that's not a comfortable bike for a road trip.Very comfy bike. Actually a Hypersports Tourer Ninja left Accra for Lagos on Sunday with another group. We left on Monday |
OMGosh!!! Just saw this now. Hilarious ![]() |

We arrived at the CONOIL petrol station at Seme at about 07:30 Notice how we always get interested spectators every time we pull up somewhere? (Red arrows) Next steps? Get in touch with the agent who will process us across both sides Exit formalities on the Nigerian side and Laissez-passer on the Republic of Benin side Various agencies need to be cleared on the Naija side of the border NAFDAC NDLEA CUSTOMS IMMIGRATION MIN. of AGRIC etc etc
|
The gents arrive Mobil @ 06:14. We took off for the Seme border @ exactly 06:25 routing through Dopemu-Egbeda-LASU Road to join the Badagry Expressway. This was to avoid the construction work and associated traffic issues at Mile 2 through Tradefair/Ojo all the way to Okokomaiko. Distance from Mobil Maryland to the Seme border is 88km
|
As mentioned earlier, departure was scheduled to be from the Mobil gas station at Maryland @ 06:30 prompt This is me on arrival at 06:10. So I filled up and waited for my mates to arrive
