MAP OF ROUTE Maryland, Lagos (the take-off point) to Accra is approx. 462km according to Google Maps This was found to be exactly accurate! To put into perspective, this is roughly the same distance as Lagos to Onitsha in Anambra State @ 459km
|
azpekuliar: Why not? I'm a big fan of "Worlds Greatest Motorcycle Rides" anchored by Henry Cole on the Travel Channel. Longer distances have been covered.Absolutely! I am just trying to set the tone for readers that have never thought about it before. "The long way down" by Ewan Macgregor and Charlie Boorman was from Scotland to Cape-Town. 15,000+ kilometers!!! |
Requirements - A working motorcycle (obviously )- Documentation : International driver's licence : International passport (or the ECOWAS passport) : International certificate of vaccination (Yellow card) : International certificate for motor vehicles : ECOWAS Motor vehicle insurance (a.k.a. Brown card) - Currencies (USD, CFA, Cedis) - An open mind and lots of patience (reasons for this would be explained later) |
As the topic suggests, is this even possible? In my experience, possibility is entirely a state of mind. If you think it is possible, IT IS! |
Siena: Quite a few Beemer fans on Nairaland, including Youngboss and Shagati, so this thread may be of interest to them.Yes, yes sir! Subscribed. I hate to hear the words timing chain/belt. ![]() Let us see how this plays out on the E46 |
Ikenna351: Shagati,Not at all. Please let's discuss oil some more. I was wondering why no one picked up on my question all this time. ![]() I too have a particular bias for the Total Quartz 5000 and my replacement regime is every 5,000km There are numerous auto (car and bike) forums that discuss the merits and demerits of mineral vs synthetic so I guess it boils down to personal choice and frequency of oil and filter swap |
Dsannin: please i would like to know where you purchase those head lamps from. Have you gotten the complete cost yet ?I am getting the lights as well as other parts from www.ebay.com I will know shipping costs when all the parts are assembled ready for transfer to Lagos Dsannin: would they fit on this model ?Yes |
yungboss: Maybe an Audi A8?My money is on the S8. 2011 to be precise |
yungboss: Shagati,Would love to see a picture of your 323. Are you based in Lagos? |
sultaan: Na Ferrari ma brother, na limited edition, when they make 500 models, you give them what you want body color, interior, racing spec etc then they will build it1000 Likes! Wasn't sure how to go about providing an answer to the question or its relevance in the first place ![]() |
Proposed headlight replacement Halo projector headlights with LED DRL Not sure I fancy the daytime lights though. Looks cool on the 2012+ G-Class but may be tarty on the Beemer ![]() Cost of purchase: $245 (x164.5) = N40,303 Again, will advise on shipping costs
|
Fog lights are completely faded and would need an upgrade
|
Close up of the headlights.

Moving the front tag to the right also seems to be popular in other climes ![]()

Headlights Lights are totally stock and in good working order. (Not to worry, I will remove the hideous Euro style number plate thingie highlighted in yellow )

Since I am more visual than most, I like to see pictures to fully understand concepts Orange with the HUGE rear spoiler? No No No!!! Lol! Keep the original cream? I would say no, give it a more manly colour that actually says that the car has been restored. Dark to black colours? YES! ! ! With the dark colour, you can play a lot with the rims. Either powder coating and adding orange/red accents or flat black Dark is understated elegance IMHO
|
Some cosmetic blemishes: 3 of the rear lights show some deposits in them and signs of discolouration. This is an opportunity to get rid of them and replace with LEDs. I have started the process of acquiring the red/smoked set pictured below. Cost of purchase is $168 (x164.5) - N27,636 Actual shipping costs to be incorporated later.
|
Costing update: Apart from cost of acquisition all I have done are: Oil, oil filter, air filter + labour - N19,000 I changed the pair of squeaky horns that came with the car. Type: Klaxon (used) - N3,500 (forgot to take pics before they were installed but see stock photo below) Tyres (x4) - N78,000 Change of ownership, new plates and comprehensive insurance - N95,000 I didn't know that the new style number plates were owner specific and could be moved from car to car. So the previous owner collected his pair and I had to get new ones.

As discussed above, the main issue that I wanted to tackle before the tyres cropped up were the suspension and ride quality. What has held that up is lack of time on a Saturday to go sit with the mechanics in the workshop to dis-assembly all and determine the exact parts that need replacement. I have a few days off work next week and I expect to make out time on Wednesday for the suspension work. This will help to know which original parts can be sourced locally and which will need to be ordered from outside. |
cne010: Just update on the costing? are you done with the Rescue Project? Not at all sir. I have only gone as far as the update above. |
3ace: Oga Shagati, your name sounds like one of these Italian sport cars. Abi na you be the manufacturer of bugatti veyron? Not at all. LOL! |
Pastor Kun: I know this company; their name is Classic and Dream machines and the workshop is located off Oregun road in Ikeja. They are not your regular "mechanics" as the owner of the workshop is a well trained and talented engineering graduate. I am not surprised he is handling this type of car though.Yes, Paul's place |
nice work here. sir, cheers!
Thanks Emperoh: This is what going offline for just a day causes!!!Will update on costings in a sec |
Final pictures I like the mechanic chap's step stool ![]()
Choi... What was the scantool on the passenger seat for? Hyper-wicked ride... though I don't know about really enjoying this car in Lagos-except maybe on VI (which is too small). Abuja should have been more like a place to enjoy the car.
No idea what the tool was for. Pics were taken in Ikeja. Ground clearance not toooo bad I reckon |
