Nig4Greatness:
@OP,

Say you travel to Japan or Saudi Arabia and you get arrested/kidnapped or whatever. As a dual citizen, which government do you think will likely come to your rescue when contacted? Nigeria or the U.S? ...

For whatever it worth,i can not be in that position for whatever reason, because when you travel to other countries and run foul of the law,you will be arrested and prosecuted and jailed if found guilty irrespective of passport you are holding(Japan and Saudi Arabia inclusive),there are many Americans in foreign jails serving their terms and the one that readily comes to mind is that of Otto Warmbier who was jailed and later died in North Korea over trumped up charges and our almighty America couldn't do anything about it.

Finally, if the U.S. and Nigeria came up with laws that prohibited dual citizenship and you're forced to choose either to be an American, or Nigerian, which citizenship would you give up? I'm curious, I really wanna know your answer...

I doubt if that situation is foreseeable but you know what, both passports serve different purposes to me and if you must know, there are some countries i don't/cant travel to with my blue passport and vice versa like am planing to be in Russia 2018 world cup if Nigeria makes it to the second round on my Nigeria passport.
Let me conclude by asking you my simple questions as well but be sincere if you must answer though,as simple as it may get,if Nigeria and united states happen to be playing against each other in a competition, who would you support?..
secondly, where do you intend to spend your retirement?..in Nigeria or remain in the US?..
Lastly,if a war should break out now, lets say a third world war, where will you be?
i guess your answers are as good as mine.

To others, nobody demands patriotism from anybody(besides, its not even the focus of this thread),but its suppose to be part of our culture naturally, that's what an average Americans do.there are countries not as good as Nigeria yet their citizens don't talk down on their countries.in my course of travelling around, what i see are products of people committed to make their countries great at all cost. ..

P.S @op, lets focus more on the purpose for this thread so we can all make meaningful contributions.this shouldn't be about Nigeria.

Most of the things you wrote out there are happening in those countries you dream about,so no system is perfect and no Country can provide adequate quality life for her citizens....the type you seek.there are many poor Americans too.
Make no mistake about it,the smart ones are those making things happen in Nigeria while the desperate ones bailing out as you said are those crying for survival.
Meanwhile,I spent most of my time in Nigeria as am currently doing and know everything that goes around there.
Remain there and keep complaining while the country keep making millionaires by the day.
enough guys! Travel if u want or stay back...it's a small world,75years from now we are all gone...do Wat makes you happy and mind your business...

muteEcho:
Hi Mates.

Another silent follower.
You guys are doing an amazing job.
I basically read through the forum and I got a hang of exactly what to do and how to do it. I also went through the UKVI's Tier 4-PBS document.

I picked up my Visa yesterday(Monday), it's been ready since Friday though.
Had my interview on the 2nd of September at the VAC Ikeja. Give or take, it took 7 working days.
I'm heading to Robert Gordon Uni. Aberdeen.

So about the application process.
I obviously applied to the school, got admission, paid tuition and got CAS. For the CAS though, RGU made payment of IHS and IELTS mandatory. So I initially made payment for IHS, but I processed a refund which I got within two weeks of initiating the process.
My IELTS was alright too. Speaking: 7.5; Writing:6.5; Reading:7.0;Listening:8.5; Overall band score:7.5.
I actually got my CAS before my IELTS was out, I gave them an expired TOEFL result (108/120) and my WAEC result showing my English result, so they processed my CAS with that, plus the school is HEI. But they asked for my IELTS when I got to the VAC and good enough, I had it with me.

I did my TB test at IOM, Ikeja. Its pretty straight forward! Call them to book an appointment and go for your appointment. PS: The guys at IOM(Ikeja) are very nice people! Very cultured.
Anyways, I think I'll just list out what I submitted. Sorry for the plenty story grin cheesy wink

Documents Submitted

Bank Statement (Use Oanda.com as your exchange peg. Don't forget currency variation!) But if you start counting your 28 days and you find out you didn't put enough money in your account before your started the 28 days count, simply make additional tuition payment(if you made part payment though) and have your school update your CAS to reflect the new paid tuition. I highlighted when the funding in my account started and when it ended.

CAS Letter

TB Test Result

IELTS Result

Oanda Print out (The didn't return my Oanda Print out but returned my bank statement, so yea! they actually use it)

Visa Application Printout

Bsc Certificate

I also labelled accordingly: Appendix A - D.

PS: Just pay attention to certain details and read this forum well well and you'll be fine. Please don't forget UKVI's website oh! They change immigration law more than a woman changes her own mood. cheesy

listen carefully now,I've lived in the Uk before and I will talk to you with experience. Do you think UK is heaven where the end will come to your sorrows and pain? NO! My advice dont quit your study this is an opportunity for you to get financial support for your study in Nigeria from your Sister in UK and live a good life in Nigeria without headeach. If you must see UK, go visit them and return to your study in Nigeria, you can be doing that till you finish your study in Nigeria. If you tell me new Immigrant to UK will pay your 12k pound tuition fee in UK University I can bet with my live it not possible unless they are stinkly rich before they left Nigeria. Be wise

Travel / Re: Living In Australia/life As An Australian Immigrant by Sharonose: 7:48pm On Mar 05, 2018
[quote]This is just my honest opinion. You can decide to take it or leave it. I know there are people who love it the way it is but before you crucify me, remember I’m only voicing out my experience of living in Australia for the last 13 months.
Melbourne is nothing but a huge disappointment. Run down houses and streets everywhere. The culture of keeping a well kept garden is non existent. An array of ugly old bungalow interspersed with one storied semi modern houses. The cbd looks second world, the suburbs are nothing but disappointing.!

Crime is on the increase. I was personally a victim of crime twice within 6 months of arrival.
When we arrived we lodged at a bnb, in preparation for moving to the house we rented, we bought a lot of household things, vacuum cleaner, plates, towels etc. When we got home that day, we were tired to pack them out of the car so we left them in the boot of the car.
In the morning, everything had disappeared from the boot.
Last week Sunday in church, car was parked outside the church premises. We came out to find the car door open. Apparently, someone had tried to open the door to steal something from the car. The alarm was activated when I switched on the ignition.

Electricity also went off on two occasions. We slept without light on one of those days.

Racial prejudices is high here compared to most countries I have been to. A day hardly passes without racial issues been mentioned in the news. Racial tension everywhere. They still stare at black people as if one is from the moon. This is not so in the whitest of Europe. My kid is enrolled in a school where he’s the only black kid. We make a scene each time I drop him of or pick him up.
The Sudanese community isn’t making matters easy. Even though there are criminal elements amongst them, the media over reports and sensationalize crimes committed by black people. This does not help Africans as everyone is viewed as criminals and racially profiled. Let me give you two instances: I went to buy a loaf of bread one night at around 19:00 at a filling station. The attendant refused to open the door. He only opened it when another white customer guy joined me there.

Quality of life isn’t fantastic as reported in the media. Internet is as slow as snail. Australia has the slowest internet amongst the first world countries. Malls close at 5:00pm. Limited consumer choice. I couldn’t get blue shoe spray polish to buy anywhere!
Most people are renting. Buying a house will take forever as the cost of deposit is often unaffordable for most people. Most people I have met live in shared apartments. It’s really disturbing to find people, (I mean Australians);
who have been working for 15 years in Australia living in shared apartments. They cannot afford to rent a whole house talk less of buying one. Most livable city in the world? That’s laughable

I don’t want to talk about getting your first job. It’s a huge challenge.

The whole skilled immigration is a huge revenue generating business for the Australian government. You won’t realize this until you get here. The beautiful index and statistics issued by world organizations are oftentimes manipulated to their economic benefits. It is a smokescreen that keeps their tourism industry alive. These are countries that understand the importance of PR. They say beautiful things about their countries and encourage people to come and stay by reeling out doctored stats and enhanced images of their countries. It is no secret that immigration business in the so called first world countries is a multi billion dollar industry.

To all those who are planning to come here, if you have the money, do an LSD trip first and then decide if you want to stay.

Cheers guys!

Truth is the pro Nigeria debaters are just arguing for argument sake and that's the truth and one of the reason why I just view and waka pass.

The OP is not going as a student(even if he were, and can sustain himself financially, I would encourage him), he is going the PR route. I don't know about some of you but his chances of success is way brighter in Canada than in Nigeria. Some people equate success to dangote's kinds of success. There are different kinds. I am not as wealthy as Dangote (infact I no near am) but I am comfortable. Most things I have today I got by merit and the reason why it's so is because I wasn't in Nigeria. Truth is, if I were, I would need Daddy's connect to find my way around and say I refused the help from Daddy the road to success/finding a good job would be long and hard. I know of a nurse here who is currently the facility Manager of one of the Aged care homes here. She finished Uni end of 2013. She is African. But she earned that post through hardwork and got the position. To get such a title within 3 years of uni completion? How many people get promoted in Nigeria because of their hard work? people get promoted in Naija based on who knows who.

You cannot compare Nigeria to Canada. I am sorry, there is no basis for comparison. You have either the High class or the lower class in Nigeria. What you call Middle class in Nigeria could be seen as Lower class in many developed country.

We talk about alternative medicine, abeg how many life threatening disease/s as it cured? how many cancers have it cured? what killed Muna Obekwe in Nigeria? kidney issue? he had exhausted all his finances to pay for dialysis and he still died. There is a story trending on social media at the moment of a girl called Maryann suffering from congenital arteries and veins malformation. Naija celebs are rallying around trying to help her...if that girl does not get the help that she deserves, death is patiently awaiting. Someone I know died of bowel obstruction some two years ago due to lack of proper health care. I could go on and on.

I live in a country where we enjoy universal health care (health is wealth). Patients who have cancer are cared for expensive drugs inclusive. Those discovered early are fought against and sometimes won. These same patients would leave the hospital without paying a cent.

I also live in a country where I am paid to have a child. For each child I birth, the government welcomes the child into the world with a cheque in your hand. cool

If I lose my job now, the government would take over my bills until I am back on my feet.

My first home, the government contributed to it free

Can you all arguing blindly pro Nigeria do me one lovely favour and just be quiet for a second? THANK YOU
my cosine died of kidney disease...hospital were busy treating typhoid all along....they didn't knw it was kidney issue until it was too late...

Schwartz:

Don't try it! I repeat DONT TRY IT! I live abroad, I have seen first hand what Nigerians who relocate straight from Nigeria without a waiting job offer go through. You will be starting life afresh. Your certificates and work experience you acquired in Nigeria will have to be put aside. It won't do anything for you. You have to start with menial jobs first. Then gather money and go back to school. Write multiple qualification exams. All these take years. When you are done, if you didn't read a course that is in short supply eg Medical field, IT and a few others you will face rejections before you MAY get a white collar job. For those who read economics, business admin, etc your chances are slimer especially in Germany where I reside plus I believe its so in other places too. Because I know for a fact that Nigerian women take to Nursing in the USA for the reasons I mentioned. Here in Germany the day I experienced -24 degree everyone was shaking from cold even the whites where covered so much, a lot of them were wearing thick face masks. And Shinarambo said today its -46 in Canada. That is very extreme for anyone. The grass is never greener on the other side. Remain in Nigeria, when you want to travel abroad go for a visit, With that kind of salary you earn in Nigeria, no county will reject your visa. I have seen many take this route you are about to take and they are regretting. Before you will reach the same level (managerial) you are now if you go abroad it will take many years and you may never reach it because trust me the whites you going to meet to compete with in the job market are far more educated and skilled than you can imagine.
u said my mind..thank u...
