AlhajiDanladi: Sentiments aside, are Edo people really voting en masse for that APC candidate or is this another vote buying story? what are his antecedents? maybe Edo people know more than we do vote buying, voter apathy, election rigging there are polling units where number of votes where more than accredited voters and all these votes where called in for the apc, few weeks ago the police arrested some pdp excos they where taken to force headquarters for no reason, and the election was largely lost at Edo north senatorial district, that's where oshiomhole hails from even shaibu too, and that's where most of these doctored polling unit results where from, all in all if you ask an average Edo man Asue was the best. |

LandMann: APC would have shut itself in the foot by presenting Prof. Osunbor cos he participated in election rigging in 2007 and was removed from office.
PDP would have capitalised on it to demarket the Prof and castigate Oshiomole again. Like they did when APC fielded Ize Iyamu.
Asue may appear intelligent on social media but it doesn't necessarily mean he can or will change Edo state for good. Those type of people are the ones that know how to use biro to loot state resources without you catching them.
If Asue was really competent and intelligent he'd have left Obaseki circle and gone to LP to promote himself. If not for election I'm very sure you would not have known or heard about Asue Ighodalo.
Despite seeing the way Obaseki is betraying everyone and still not developing the state Asue continued to roll with Obaseki. Perhaps, he's the one helping Obaseki launder the state resources that's not being used to develop the state. That says a lot about Asue character. Meanwhile, Asue cannot even speak his local language and relate with his people.
Voting against PDP in this Edo election is the best way to send message to political parties. If you don't perform you'll be voted out.
The APC candidate will be under pressure to perform to retain his second tenure, so there's hope. Plus the state will be aligned with the federal government and get easy support for funding and other developmental initiatives.
PDP continuance in Edo would have continued to cause havoc for the state cos Asue won't fix those roads, claiming it's federal roads, and federal won't do it so as to give the state government a bad name.
Save this my post for 2027. You'll see how Edo people will vote against APC cos of Tinubu. Unless Tinubu performs some sort of miracle on the Nigerian economy and raises the value of people's income. you are obviously an Apc member because what's all this talk about Asue not being able to speak his language, what's all this talk about obaseki's betrayal, who did he betray, oshiomhole, or shaibu or woke who, if he betrayed oshiomhole why can't oshiomhole come out an say to Nigerians how obaseki betrayed him, it was the turn of Edo central do you expect him to have supported shaibu to succeed him when it would have been unfair, or do you expect obaseki to turn to wike's handbag just like the foolish G 5 pdp governors who were following him like flies all around, who exactly did he betray, enjoy your okphebolo. It doesn't even make any sense your arguments you want to punish obaseki a man that has already served his maximum term limit by voting in a clueless illiterate. The way men dey reason nowadays. |

LandMann: It's foolishness to reward a man/party that did not perform by voting for the same party again.
That's my main point.
Did Obaseki/PDP perform in Edo state?
The short answer is no.
If the answer is no, there's no justification to vote PDP.
Before you draw premature conclusion about who I support or don't support kindly go through my old posts on NL.
I don't support any party/politician that doesn't perform, develop his state/country or do good for the people.
If Obaseki/PDP performed, it's Edo people that will vote massively for PDP.
If APC is gaining ground now in Edo it's because of failure of PDP/Obaseki
There's no need for sentiment.
PDP got votes in Edo state because a lot of people hate Tinubu and APC. Tinubu caused so much suffering in Nigeria by removing subsidy and floating exchange rate. It is this suffering/hardship that makes people hate APC, because Tinubu is in APC.
Again, Obaseki/PDP in his wickedness chose to do nothing to ameliorate the suffering of the people. In Benin city, the state capital, there's no single state hospital. PDP/Obaseki destroyed the existing central hospital and did not rebuild it as promised, forcing people to use expensive private hospitals.
What about public education? All public primary and secondary schools around Edo state are in deplorable conditions because Obaseki/PDP refused to maintain and improve them. This has forced Edo people to rely of expensive private school education.
What about infrastructure like roads, water, electricity, security?
Try driving through Benin Agbor road, Benin Sapele road, Uromi Ekpoma Auchi roads.... Complete write-off... Obaseki/PDP refused to repair these roads; declaring that they're federal roads, while the people of Edo using the roads continue to suffer, accidents and deaths occur on these roads leading to lose of lives and properties...
No single public water is functional in Benin city, not to talk of Edo central and other areas. Everyone in Edo has to rely of private boreholes which exist within same vicinity of soakaway toilets leading to contamination of water which endangers the health of Edo people....all this under Obaseki/PDP watch but Obaseki travels to Europe and America and he sees functional public water.
Do you know that communities outside of Edo state capital are now ravaged by insecurity, causing farmers to abandon farms, leading to high inflation in price of food items while Obaseki of PDP continues to play politics about the situation to whip up public sentiment against APC government at the federal level? Meanwhile, every month Obaseki of PDP receives heavy state allocation in billions and he appropriates some of those funds as security vote.
There's a lot to say and I can write a whole book about the failure of Obaseki but like I said at the onset, Edo people who voted against PDP voted because of Obaseki poor performance.
There's no reason for them to continue to put their hope in a hopeless party that Obaseki is in charge of in the state.
At the federal level, Edo people will vote against APC and that's because of Tinubu's failure.
That is the right thing to do and it shows that Edo people are highly enlightened.
Although some of them still fall for sentiment, it's good to know that majority of Edo people see beyond the deception by individual politicians and they have a better and broader understanding of politics. let's say I agree with you about obaseki not performing, obaseki is not on the ballot, a candidate emerged from his party, he has to support his party candidate, yes let's agree they are all the sane, now this is where our thinking will have to diverge you believe Edo voters should do obaseki a payback for poor governance let's say you are right, but the payback is not exactly payback as whatever decision they made would define the next four years, so how's that payback for obaseki when he isn't seeking a second term? Now if you say his party shouldn't be rewarded for poor leadership let's say I agree with you too, because I felt the same way too against apc during the last presidential election now here is where our thinking also diverge, while I do agree with you to some extent one thing is was clear before the election either of the pdp, Apc or LP was going to win the election, judging by party both pdp and apc have sinned, but judging by individual Asue is still head and shoulders above okphebolo, for you this is about karma for the past sins, for me it's above redemption, about how despite obaseki's failure how well can we move forward and who has the capacity to move that idea, one thing I know okphebolo lacks the mental bandwidth to function in such capacity the duty of a governor or a president is more like the job of a CEO. It APC had presented a workable candidate say like Prof oseriehmen osunbor then I would have whole heatedly agree with you, the only concern should have been the national failure of the party. |

LandMann: Propaganda has led you to believe most of the rubbish you're parroting here.
Asue is a super hero and an investment guru, yet 8 years of him helping Obaseki and no single company has been set-up in Edo state to create employment and jobs for Edo people.
The fact that you hate Tinubu should not make you blind to poor performance of a candidate and it's party in local elections.
I can guarantee you that Tinubu and APC will lose massively in Edo state come 2027 election.
PDP has been in charge of Edo state for the past 8 years and PDP failed miserably.
Edo state is not Abia state that kept voting one useless party for good 24 years because of hatred for another party.
If everyone keeps voting out non performing politicians then they'll all sit up
Unfortunately the country is still full of illiterates who fall for propaganda and love to translate hatred for one person/party to others.
APC still has good politicians. Unfortunately they're few and they're minority in APC.
PDP also has good and bad politicians but the good ones are few and a minority. ok so you prefer the guy with forged and duplicate documents like date of birth and questionable waec certificate which is is highest academic attainment, you prefer the guy who can barely communicate as a governor you know he is expected to attend investment submits to play host to foreign emissaries, how then can he sell Edo to them? You are the one who is falling for propaganda, obaseki failed you say? Let's agree, obaseki has ruled for his maximum term limit, obaseki is not on the ballot, why then do you extend your hatred for obaseki to Asue? Yet you are talking about not extending hatred for the apc national to the state but yet you are doing the same to Asue, another lie of your's obaseki has beenin the pdp for 4 yrs yet you lie pdp has been in power for eight yrs, you talk about individual candidate but by individual candidate CV Asue stands above okphebolo so what then is your genuine reason for hatred against Asue, you say he is a stooge to obaseki, but okphebolo is even more of a stooge not just to oshiomhole but the Apc national, you fail to even realise how apc's control of a state can even influence the 2027 presidential election, why do the think the yoruba Ronu gang are so invested in this election they are not from here, they are not Edo yet they carry Edo election for head like it is lagos, or ogun state casting their vote, I am from Edo state and I want the best for my people, I don't know if you are from Edo or just an Apc member, but if you are a son of the soil, and you place your party above your people, hope you can live with the consequences. |

LandMann: Obaseki of PDP performed miserably as governor.
It'd be very foolish to continue with an Obaseki stooge as governor because of hatred for Tinubu. and you don't think it would be foolish to continue with a Tinubu stooge as governor because of hatred for obaseki, btw obaseki has already finished his eight year maximum tenure, Asue is the best candidate he has served as chairman of various blue Chip companies you don't think that counts, okphebolo can barely even communicate how would he attract foreign investment? How would he sell Edo investment to investors? How would he understand documents or the implications of signing on just any document how would he negotiate the best deals for Edo? These are questions that Edolites are asking, okphebolo's ignorance makes him vulnerable. |

Edo did not vote apc, what you have is election rigging especially in the Edo north senatorial district, more than half of the voters in Edo are in Edo south, which Asue will win, Edo central is split I can't, Apc knows this, that's why the decided to rig Edo north massively. |

I can go on and on.....being a good man in a position has nothing to do with being educated.
The people who have stole this country blind are the educated people...a fact you can't dispute. I get your point and I kinda agree with you, but in the absence of any indices to decide who is a good man at heart among them, going for the achievers and the educated and smart ones become the next criteria, we can't throw away this factors because others have failed, track record of performance is still a viable criteria. |

DeLaRue: By 'everything', I assume you mean fuel subsidy in particular.
Well, it can be done, but there will be severe economic consequences.
If the president announces that he is restoring full subsidy, the international institutions lending Nigeria money will stop doing so. Naira will immediately fall to around N2,000, and slowly move towards N2500 and beyond.
Any benefit people gain from the reintroduction of full subsidy will be lost as prices of everything imported will shoot up to unprecedented levels. Prices of locally produced goods will follow.
So, as you can see, reversing subsidy removal can be done. Nobody will stop Nigeria from doing it. But the pain thereafter will be worse than before. We should be prepared to buy a loaf of bread for N3000 or N4000. May be N5000 or N6,000. Not possible? Ask the people of Lebanon.
See Venezuela, Iran etc for developing countries that don't generate enough revenue but still refused to remove subsidy. you know nothing, still trying to use propaganda and lies to manipulate the masses , was buhari not paying subsidy and still borrowed massively from international lenders? The gains from subsidy removal has the govt used it for anything that benefits the masses, except from buying new Jets and spending billions on first lady's foreign trips, we aren't even talking about the corruption and looting going on. |

Are you aware he won the Senatorial seat against LP and PDP last year? As it stands he is guarantee to win 2 Senatorial districts... Also you mentioned Tinubu, are you saying Tinubu will be on the ballot come September 21? I am saying tinubu's negative leadership and that of the Apc's will work against him "Edo no be Lagos" phrase is still valid today and you know who it was said against, the same people who worked for obaseki at the grassroot level for him to win are still working today combined with the masses who supported him then and now, and Asue's image as a corporate educated guy has also added to his overall positive image perception, the Apc guy has never been at a debate even when he appeared at campaign ground he couldn't even expressed himself properly these reminds us of Tinubu and it's not a good look and the Apc has been a monumental disaster okphebolo is going nowhere, his only chance is through the back door. |

APC has 2 senators Majority of Reps member from the state. The APC candidate is a grass root person in his senatorial district Edo North is a fortress for APC Shuaibu and the Legacy group are with APC The only Senatorial district the PDP is hoping to get bulk votes is the South Senatorial district and LP candidate is also from that place... Also the Igbinedions are supporting the APC candidate. The Oba and Obaseki issue is there also. Looking at all this factors gave the APC candidate the upper hand. and you forgot the most important part of it all the electorates, maybe you don't know this these factors you just listed only slightly aides a candidate that is popular and has some electoral clouts, okphebolo does not have that combined with Apc's and tinubu's negative image, the Apc can only stand a chance through Federal might, rigging and massive vote buying, the igbinedions are not supporting Apc even if they were it means nothing, look at how obaseki won the last election, were these factors you mentioned not present then, but still obaseki won a second term because the electorates had a strong will, and that is the most important factor not in all. |

Faiththatworks: This Twitter economist with his bright Grammar way of analysing economic issues. I don't take any of this online people seriously after the almost zero performance by Dr Bosun, the Minister In charge of the Digital Economy. It's very easy to criticize and recommend theoretical solutions to Nigeria's problem online as seen by these online critics, but theory is miles apart from practical solutions. Back to the issue, this Twitter economist has found his way to Nairaland and is postulating that Refining Crude oil locally shouldn't bring down the price of PMS Locally. I totally disagree,I saw a chat where pms is sold in Libya for 51 naira and in Iran for 61 naira,if every country was following this idea of buying crude at International prices then no county should sell pms less than 1$. The truth we must tell ourselves as Nigerians is why should we price our local crude In usd, there's an agreement between IOCs and the NNPCL. I don't understand why the crude allocated for local refining should be traded in Usd, it's an anomaly that must be stopped. Dangote can sell his pms to Nigerians at a cheap price if we pressure the Government to sell the local crude allocation in Naira. Every transaction involved in extracting, transporting, refining and transporting the refined crude must be done in Naira. Shipping, insurance and transporting must be calculated in Naira. That's the only way we can ever enjoy cheap fuel prices. God bless Nigeria. and I also wonder why they always claim the cost of refining is the same, when we know most of the workers in the refinery are Nigerians and the labour bills are paid in naira, and cheaper than labour bills of workers in Europe and elsewhere, with this combined with the others you listed I wonder why Nigerians still have to pay same amount or almost same amount to when fuel was imported. |
