GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has ordered members of the mission to register as card-carrying members of political parties of their choices.
This is just as the renowned cleric decried government’s meddlesomeness on church matters in the country.
Speaking at the 2017 Ministers’ Annual Thanksgiving on Saturday at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, Adeboye expressed worries over deliberate anti-Christian laws being churned out by the Federal Government to interfere in church affairs.
“The government has been showing increasing interest in church affairs.
Unfortunately, for us in RCCG, it might not be very helpful,” the cleric fondly called Daddy G. O. disclosed.
The man of God went further to accuse the government of not allowing the church to continue with its stipulated lifetime 100 per cent salaries to its pensioners.
“For example, when I decided on what will be the pension of our pastors, what I decided is not done anywhere in the world.
That somebody will retire and continue to earn full salaries all his lifetime.
This, I started, but government stepped in and made a law that we should be contributing to pension fund.
We’ve to obey and we started doing that. The results are that pastors don’t get as much as they were getting under our own previous arrangement.
But what can we do? We’ve to obey the law,” he disclosed.
Speaking further, Adeboye disclosed that other fresh laws had been enacted by the government to ruffle the feathers of church in the country, with a particular target on RCCG.
According to him, “Now there are fresh laws. We have a rough idea of what the law is about.
Continuing, he said: “some people believe that RCCG is becoming too influential and we’re going to be more influential.
When you get home, tell members to join a political party.
Join a party and become a card-carrying member of any party. Just join any party. We shall decide issues right from ward level.
If you are not active at ward level, you’ll do what they plan and say at the top.
Enrol in any party of your choice and have a card.
When holding meeting at ward level to choose delegates, be there.
One Muslim in Ibadan said years ago that he didn’t know what’s wrong with Christians that we help them to occupy political positions and serve, refusing to capitalise on our population.
That’s going to change from now,” the man of God instructed his ministers.
On the tenure of general overseers of religious bodies in the country, Pastor Adeboye disclosed that in the “new law that has been announced, they said that nobody can be overseer for more than more than certain number of years.
And according to that law, people like me, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor W. F. Kumuyi, Bishop Mike Okonkwo were already gone.”
Having said this, Pastor Adeboye presented Pastor J. O. Obayemi, as the new Overseer, Pastor Johnson Odesola as secretary and Pastor Adeyokunnu as treasurer of the mission.
Pastor Obayemi and Odesola were former Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Finance and Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel respectively.
Speaking on the new law, Pastor Adeboye, while presenting the new appointees, said: “So, I want to present to you your new overseer, so you can pray for him.
They also said we must have a secretary; they said we must have a treasurer too.
So, I present to you Pastor Obayemi, Pastor Odesola and Pastor Adeyokunnu to you.
As God will have it, the people have been prepared for the jobs for years.
For instance, Pastor Obayemi has been in charge of salary review committee for years and inland missions.
He’s been out representative at Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for years, so he’ll be doing what he’s been doing.”
Adeboye, who did not specifically announced that he had resigned or retire as GO, said he has no problem performing his God-given role.
“About me, no problem. RCCG is in 192 nations of the world and the overseer in Nigeria will not drive me out of the camp.
He won’t stop me from doing the Holy Ghost services and he won’t stop me from visiting you.”
Pastor Adeboye joined RCCG in 1973 and was appointed General Overseer of the church in 1981 after the demise of Ondo-born founder of the church, Reverend Josiah Akindayomi.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Sunday paid a surprise visit to former governor Segun Oni at his Ifaki Ekiti country home.
Fayose, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said it was a courtesy visit.
The statement quoted the governor as saying, “leadership comes first, Ekiti comes first and leadership is about sacrifice to make for the purpose of unity. That is exactly what I am doing.
“There is a difference between leadership and politics. To me, Ekiti comes first, every leader willing to make Ekiti first, I will visit him. I am the governor of the state and everybody is my subject. My visit to Segun Oni has nothing to do with politics. When it comes to how to move Ekiti forward, we must firstly remove our political garment.”
Oni who warmly received the governor said that he was overwhelmed with the visit which he claimed was brotherly.
“It is a brotherly visit, I am happy for that. It is a welcome development and good for Ekiti State. We are both leaders of the state.”

Agriculture
We will build a new philosophy of farmers first. This is the only way to provide for food security, create employment for our people and bring revenue to Government. We shall develop a policy that will enable our farmers have immediate and adequate reward for their toil. A deliberate policy that will give our farmers comfort will be our guide.
We will encourage our people to create cottage industries around our agricultural potentials. We will maximize the agricultural value chain for economic growth.
Education
We shall be committed to helping our parents bear the burden of Education. We shall continually and systematically address the infrastructural challenges in the education sector. We shall partner with genuine individuals and organizations to offer our young ones opportunity of a good education recognizing that government cannot do all. Government policy will be to provide education for all at subsidized cost.
Infrastructural Development
We believe that a new way to address our employment challenges is to invest heavily in infrastructural development. We shall tackle headlong the challenges that we face in our efforts to build and maintain our urban and rural roads.
Portable and Drinking Water
Our people deserve accessibility to safe portable drinking water. We shall not rest until our taps function more effectively.
Tourism
We will create a new tourism corridor in the State that will be private sector driven, but supported by the public sector. Like our philosophy, tourism will create employment for our people and bring revenue to our state.

Health Sector
The gains in the health sector will be preserved, and we shall increase on our basic health facilities and other specialized health facilities across the State.
Our philosophy is to create a bond of friendship with the people, we shall work deliberately to create prosperity for our farmers and promote industrial growth. We intend to create equitable access to medicare, partner with investors and confront all areas of our challenge.
The new economy that we envisage will guarantee prosperity and growth. We are prepared and ready to provide solutions to all emerging challenges.
Our party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party offer our people a new vision, service and prosperity.
I thank the people and all residents of Ondo State. Our party the PDP will attract the best hands within and outside the State.

Nigerian rower, Chierika Ukogu continues to make hew record as she made it to the final of the
Women’s Single Sculls Rowing event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
After initial postponement of the semi-finals due to bad weather, Ukogu in the first 1000m in the Semifinal C/D1 Single Sculls Rowing event on Friday, August 12.
She initially finished third with a 4:04.26.
With a total time of 8:18:55, she finished fourth which qualified her for the finals.
She will be competing in Final D of women's Single Sculls Rowing event on Saturday, August 13 she will be in lane 4.
She took to Twitter to express her delight writing; “ I honored all the training I've done over the past 18 months today, finished 4th in semis today and I'll be racing in the D final tomorrow.
“THANK YOU! I surpassed my sponsorship goals, and I am also ready to race the D-final tomorrow.”

Obafemi Awolowo was born in Ikenné, Western State, Nigeria, on March 6, 1909. he was a Nigerian nationalist, a political leader, and a principal participant in the struggle for Nigerian independence. He received his early education in the mission schools of Ikenné, Abeokuta, and Ibadan. Often he worked at odd jobs to raise money for tuition fees, and his entrepreneurial spirit continued to express itself in the various careers which he subsequently sampled: journalist, teacher, clerk, moneylender, taxidriver, produce broker. His organizational and political inclinations became evident as he moved to high-level positions in the Nigerian Motor Transport Union, the Nigerian Produce Traders' Association, the Trades Union Congress of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Youth Movement, of which he became Western Provincial secretary.
In 1944 he completed a University of London correspondence course for the bachelor of commerce degree. His greatest ambition, however, was to study law, which he undertook in London from 1944 to 1946, when he was called to the bar and practiced as a barrister in Ibadan.
In 1945 he wrote his first book, Path to Nigerian Freedom, in which he was highly critical of British policies of indirect administration and called for rapid moves toward self-government and Africanization of administrative posts in Nigeria. He also expressed his belief that federalism was the form of government best suited to the diverse populations of Nigeria, a position to which he consistently adhered. Also in 1945 in London, he helped found the Egbe Omo Oduduwa (Society of the Descendants of Oduduwa, the mythical ancestor of the Yoruba-speaking peoples), an organization devoted to the study and preservation of Yoruba culture.
In 1950 Action Group political party in Western Nigeria to participate in the Western Regional elections of 1951. The Action Group won a majority, and in 1952 Awolowo as president of the Action Group became leader of the party in power in Western Nigeria. In 1954 he became the first premier of the Western Region, on which occasion he was awarded an honorary chieftaincy. During his tenure as leader and premier, he held the regional ministerial portfolios of local government, finance, and economic planning. He was also chairman of the Regional Economic Planning Commission.
In 1959, confident of an Action Group victory in the federal elections, Awolowo resigned the premiership to stand for election to the federal House of Representatives. About that time he published his second book, Awo: An Autobiography of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in which he once more endorsed federalism as the most appropriate form of government for Nigeria.
However, the 1959 elections were to become an important turning point in Awolowo's career, for the Action Group was decisively defeated, and Awolowo found himself leader of the opposition in the Federal House of Representatives, while the deputy leader of the Action Group, Chief S. L. Akintola, remained premier of the Western Region. This situation led to a power struggle within the party which ultimately erupted in 1962 in disturbances in the Western Region House of Assembly. The federal government intervened and suspended the regional constitution. When normal government was restored, the Akintola faction had won; Akintola and his followers withdrew from the Action Group to form the Nigerian National Democratic party, which governed Western Nigeria until 1966.
In 1963 Awolowo was found guilty of conspiring to overthrow the government of Nigeria and was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. In 1966, he was released from prison and the following year was invited to join the Federal Military Government as federal commissioner of finance and as vice chairman of the Federal Executive Council.
In 1968 Awolowo published his fourth book, The People's Republic, calling for federalism, democracy, and socialism as the necessary elements in a new constitution which would lead to the development of a stable and prosperous Nigeria. Although he praised the Federal Military Government for creating a 12-state federal system in 1967, he predicted further political difficulties because these states had not been based on ethnic and linguistic affinities.
Awolowo continued to serve the government as commisioner of finance and vice chairman of the Federal Executive Council throughout the years of Nigeria's civil war with Biafra (1967-1970). Awolowo resigned in 1971 to protest the government's continuation of military rule, and in 1975, following the overthrow of the Gowon government, issued a press release questioning the country's military spending. In 1979 and 1983 he ran for president as the candidate for the Unity Party of Nigeria, losing to Shehu Shagari. Awolowo returned to private life upon the overthrow of the Shagari government in December 1983. He died in Ikenné on May 9, 1987.

A former military governor of Ondo state and Lagos base chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George has warned Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose to tread slowly, especially on his incessant attack on President Muhammadu Buhari. Chief George in a recent interview granted the Daily Sun described Fayose as a small boy who must be grateful to God for reinstalling him back to power, but instead, the governor busy with personal, unintellectual and unintelligent attack on the President. A former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George in his usual manner of no hold barred said to the Daily Sun interviewer; "We have an adage in my language. The wisdom of the elders; the grey hair is not for cows, or ram. It is a true reflection of so many experiences and learning. When you see a young man, boisterous, firing on both sides of the cylinder, then my word is ‘gada nkada, ankali, jee-jeeo, Nwayo nwayo, slow- slow’. You see snail?" Sometimes you see it on top of a roof. It has no hand, it has no leg, but it climbs and gets to the top. How does it do it? It will look right and left and move. If you touch it, it will hide again, and can stay there for a long time." "My advice to him is that though we must have opposition, it must be constructive; it must be intellectual, nothing personal. When we were in power, opposition governors used to come to discuss what they wanted in their states. You don’t put him perpetually on attack. He is the president. I think it is a little too much when you start firing a letter outside to another president to dishonour a loan agreement. That is a little too much for Ayo." "I know Ayo. One thing that he should be grateful to God is that they haunted him out of government house. He is still my boy, my little boy. That was during Obasanjo’s era. What they did to him was illegal, it was not right. He knew we supported him. But see the way the Almighty works. Exactly 8 years, on the same day, he came back as governor. What else does he need other than to praise God and do what is right. He can book an appointment that he wants to see the president." "I am saying this because the very first time he came there, the whole people in management conspired that he would not be gov­ ernor. He and my mother’s younger brother came to me at 2.30 am at a hotel in Ekiti when Obasanjo was coming the following morning. I gave him N230,000 to go and buy his own dress; that he will get the ticket that morning to be governor. He didn’t believe it. I said, go and sow it overnight, which he did." "I went on board the aircraft, because they had given the dress of another man they wanted as governor to Obasanjo. They had given it to baba. I explained to baba and he said, okay Bode, keep the dress. I would be going from here to commission NTA station in Ekiti. After that, I will announce and call for you. Bring the dress inside the building. I took the dress there. After Baba had finished commissioning the station, he dropped it, and called out ‘Bode’. I said ‘yes baba’. He said ‘ Oya come.’ We went into one studio there. That was where Baba changed. You know everybody had to move to the stadium. We changed into Fayose’s dress. When he entered the stadium in Fayose’s dress there was surprise, and that did it. He should remember, because if you forget about history you will repeat the mistake.
