The Department of State Services (DSS) few minutes ago has produced to journalists, a very sick Hon. Afolabi Akanni, the Ekiti State Assembly member whom the state government claimed had died in the custody of the DSS.
Hon Akanni was arrested by armed men of the DSS on March 4 and has been in detention since then, inspite of court order for his release.
It was confirmed that Hon Akanni is alive, but weak, apparently from ill-health.
He was looking frail and sick when he was brought before journalists at the DSS headquarters, Abuja.
He could barely carry himself, and his eyes were red and shadowy.
Speaking to journalists, Abdullahi Garba of the DSS, said that Akanni was arrested for some serious breaches bordering on state security.
“You may have been aware of the recent situation in Ekiti state in which the DSS was accused of abducting the state assembly legislators,” he said.
“The fact is that one of the members of the assembly Hon Akanni Afolabi was duly invited by the service over some serious breaches bordering on state security, and for which he has some explanations to make. These breaches fall under the purview of the DSS to investigate.
“This press conference has become necessary in order to debunk a rumour which is being dangerously spread in Ekiti state by some mischief makers to the effect that Afolabi has died in custody. Nigerians and Ekiti people in particular are convinced to see that Afolabi is hale and hearty as he is being presented to the press today.”
When asked why Akanni was still in custody despite an order of a court for his release, Garba said: “We didn’t get the court order.”
Akanni walked with strenuous effort as he was led back into DSS custody.

Awka—The candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra Central senatorial re-run election, Chief Victor Umeh, has threatened to use legal means to stop former governor Peter Obi of the state from participating in the rerun.
The rerun, which ought to have taken place on March 5, 2016, was postponed indefinitely by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following a court order obtained by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to include it in the re-run.
Since then, some interest groups, including former governors in the senate, have been mounting pressure on Obi to join the race and there were indications that the former governor might have succumbed to the pressures.
INEC had earlier barred the PDP from participating in the election as it stated that the December 7, 2015 Court of Appeal judgment that nullified the March28, 2015 election of the PDP’s candidate, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife also stopped the party.
Addressing reporters at the Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State weekend where he was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in Political Science, Umeh described the decision of the former governor to join the race as an illegality, arguing that the Supreme Court had in plethora of cases said a fresh election resulting from an annulled election was a rerun and only those who contested the annulled election would be qualified to participate in the rerun.
The former National Chairman of APGA described the Federal High Court’s judgment that ordered INEC to include PDP in the rerun as one ambush that would crash, insisting that the High Court had no powers under any law to delve into an area the Supreme Court had sufficiently covered the ground.
Umeh said: “ I didn’t come into politics to make money. I am into politics to sanitize the system. Obi and his group will not contest this election. We won’t allow this perfidy of theirs. I have been in court all through my political career and I will continue to do that, especially in this rerun.
“Obi’s campaign posters that are all over the place for this rerun are efforts in futility. He won’t contest this election. Anambra is not the only place a rerun has been ordered by a court. So, all these things are illegality and cannot stand.”
However, a former commissioner during the Peter Obi administration, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, a lawyer, claimed what the Court of Appeal ordered was a fresh election.
He said: “The Court of Appeal judgement was made in simple in English language and it said ‘ go and conduct a fresh election within 90 days. What this means is that everything will start all over again, and anybody who is interested can participate. That was what the Abuja Federal High Court affirmed when it ordered INEC to include PDP in the rerun, and PDP has endorsed Obi for the Anambra Central rerun.”

ABUJA—THE only surviving son of the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barrister Aaron Ocholi, has promised to retain all the legacies of his father.
Aaron Ocholi who is 25 years, according to family sources, was saved from following his father to attend the Church service in Kaduna due to an ankle injury he sustained while training on a football pitch. He was on crutches at the time the father and some members of the family embarked on the fatal trip.
Also yesterday, Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Abubakar Ali, was involved in an auto accident along the Kaduna-Kano expressway but escaped unhurt.
Already, the Ocholi family house at 4 Daggash Street, Kado Estate, Abuja, was a beehive of activities, yesterday, as ministers, lawmakers and heads of agencies trooped to the residence to commiserate with the family.
This resulted in a traffic gridlock on all the roads leading to the family house at Kado.
Speaking to the body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, that visited the house, Aaron said he would not tamper with the legacy of his father and will never sell his books and law firm, assuring the SANs that with them, he would not derail.
Speaking to Vanguard, a close friend of the late minister, who was always regarded as his ‘twin’ brother by relatives, Tokunbo Obayan, a.k.a. Toks, described Ocholi’s death as a rude shock.
He said: “It was so sudden that it was certainly unreal in the fact that, yesterday morning, we did not feel that something like this was on the cards. I actually was flying from Kaduna to Lagos, I live in Lagos. I had no idea that it was even between Kaduna and Abuja, only for me to get to Lagos and my phone rang from everywhere in Nigeria, confirming the ugly incident.
“So, you can imagine the shock and now for me to also find out that it wasn’t just him but his wife and Joshua, that was like the world had crumbled on us because our families were like twin families.
"My wife got the first text and she replied that it was not possible. My wife is the Vice-Chancellor of Landmark University and former Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University.
“Her first reaction was that it was not possible, then the person now called her back and said it was all over the social media, it was devastating to imagine. Two weeks ago, I was here in this house, two days, four days we talked and we planned and to suddenly hear that it was like someone just shut the door, everything we have been planning, everybody calls him my twin brother, even when I am in Lagos, people in Abuja phoned me to find out where he is.
“When we sat down there and we were discussing, the plans for the future, the fact is that as minister, he had to pull off from anything that will give any look of impropriety which Ocholi was particular about. Even his businesses and things that he was committed to, we were discussing how to handle them to make sure that there was no conflict of interest.
“That was our last conversation. We were sitting here when he was about to travel to Kogi for the run-off election. He had five children, two sons and three daughters. Ojoni is the first daughter, Aaron is the second son, he was called to bar the day his father was screened in the Senate.
“He went for a church service in Kaduna; he has been involved in Christian activities for a very long time and that was actually how we met. There is a bond between the two of us because of our love for God.
“Even his coming into politics was to bring a dimension of cleanliness and most people will not understand if I tell you that Ocholi entered into politics because he had a call. I was the first person that he told. I was sitting beside him when he told me and said Toks, I heard God saying I should go and serve him in politics but I like legal practice.
"I said if God said you should go and serve him that is where you should go. This is so devastating.”
Also speaking, a cousin to the late minister, Isaac Agbanwu, a surveyor said: “We were not expecting this.
“We were together on Thursday, our discussion was about a trip he was going to make officially and I was to meet him and then discuss with him before he travelled and I went, we discussed and I left his office on Thursday.
“I was expecting that by Saturday, he would have travelled; I was not expecting him around, let alone hearing of his death. I also travelled to the village, it was on my way to the village that I was informed about his death, I had no option than to turn back immediately. It is bad news to us.
“He has a son who is already a graduate, called to the bar. We are making him to understand that he should see it as a reality and not a drama.
“He was a humble man, an accessible man, a man that has the comfort of people as his agenda before himself. He wouldn’t want to hurt anybody, he was always focused on heaven and did not want to be derailed."

Kaduna State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Francis Udoma, confirmed to
Vanguard in Kaduna, yesterday, that 10 persons were in the two SUVs, a Prado and a Lexus, involved in the accident that claimed the lives of the minister, his wife and son, adding that seven others who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
His words: “A total of 10 persons were involved in that sad accident. You have already written about those that died – the minister,, his wife and son. There are seven other victims, but they have all been taken to the Abuja National Hospital, yesterday.
‘’They were in two cars – a Prado and a Lexus. All I can tell you is that at the time we took them there, they were given prompt medical attention. Since I am not the one treating them, I cannot tell you precisely how they are responding. But, I am told that they are responding well”, he said.
He'll be immortalised — Ngige
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, yesterday, said the Federal Government might immortalise the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment, James Ocholi, SAN.
Senator Ngige stated this after signing the condolence register opened in honour of the late minister in Abuja.
He also disclosed that he had declared a one day mourning and a work-free day for the staff in the ministry yesterday, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari had been duly notified and that Ocholi might be immortalized by the Federal Government because he died in active service.
His words: “Yes! The Federal Government will work out something. I have written officially to notify Mr. President about his transition and I believe the Federal Government will work out something because he died in active service. This is the second time the country is losing a minister of state, I think in 1982, the country lost a minister of state who went to São Tomé.”
He said the Ministry will take care of the remaining members of Ocholi’s family and the staff of the ministry who sustained various degrees of injury in the accident.
In a condolence message signed by the minister, he said: “My brother and comrade in the struggle for a better Nigeria, you left us suddenly and without a word. I’m still shocked. We are consoled that in the brief period we worked as compatriots, you have shown you are a true Nigerian and one who desires the maximum good for the common man. Adieu.”
Yobe deputy Gov in auto crash
Also yesterday, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Abubakar Ali, was involved in an auto accident along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway.
An eyewitness, Sanusi Abdul, said the incident occurred at Daka-Tsalle town, along the expressway. “The SUV he was travelling in had a head-on collision with a Toyota Avensis. Fortunately, the deputy governor’s vehicle did not somersault, but the Toyota car was badly damaged and some of its occupants injured,” he said.
Abdul, who said the accident occurred around 9:30 am, added that he also narrowly missed hitting the deputy governor’s car, adding that the deputy governor’s convoy later continued its trip to Kano.
Efforts to speak with the deputy governor was unsuccessful as he neither answered nor returned calls.
A source at Government House, Damaturu, however, said the deputy governor travelled to Kano on a condolence visit to Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, who lost his mother on Friday.
Confirming the accident, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Kano State, Mr. Aminu Umar Jaba, said: “It was a minor accident blown out of proportion by an unnamed aide to the deputy governor. The commander, however, declined further details on the number of vehicles involved in the accident but blamed social media for exaggerating the accident.
“As for the fact we have at our disposal, it was a minor accident. The deputy governor escaped unhurt and he is now at Ganduje village on a condolence visit."
PDP Consoles Buhari, FG
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condoled President Muhammadu Buhari and the federal government of Nigeria over the death of the Minister of State for Labour, Mr James Ocholi.
The party in a statement signed by the National Publicity, Olisa Metuh, said the death of Mr Ocholi came to “the PDP as a huge shock and prayed God to grant eternal repose to their souls”.
Part of the statement read: “The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, on behalf of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party condoles with the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari on the tragic death of the Minister of State for Labour, Barr. James Ocholi SAN, his wife and son in a car crash on Sunday”.
The party also commiserated with the minister’s family and prayed God to grant
them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, adding that “the family should take solace in the exemplary and patriotic life lived by the late minister as well as his immense contributions to the legal profession and the nation at large. It prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.”
Saraki, Ekweremadu mourn Ocholi
Also Senate President,Bukola Saraki, and the Deputy Senate President,Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday expressed deep shock and disbelief over Sunday’s demise of Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, James Ocholi, his wife and eldest son in a road mishap along Abuja-Kaduna Road.
The Senate President, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity,
Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja, described the tragic death of such a “promising Nigerian” as the late Minister as a colossal loss to the present administration in particular and the country at large.
He condoled with President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the Federal Executive Council,FEC, the governor and people of Kogi State, leaders and people of North Central zone and the immediate family of the deceased over the unfortunate incident.
Saraki said: “I still recall when the late Ocholi appeared before the Senate to be screened and confirmed as Minister a few months ago. He was not only full of life, he came across to me as a man of great ideas and accomplishments.
“He was very articulate and brilliant in his presentation and gave good account of himself as Senior Advocate of repute, who given the chance to discharge the duty assigned to him, would have contributed immensely in turning around the story of unemployment in this country.
“His death and that of his wife and eldest son, is a colossal loss to me, his immediate family, the people and government of Kogi State, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress,APC and the entire country.”
He prayed God to grant the souls of the deceased eternal rest, and urged Nigerians, especially his immediate family, to be comforted by the fact that Ocholi breathed his last while on acting service for his father land.

Teenage Chukwuka Noah, who was installed Obi (king) Akaeze I of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State after the murder of his father, tells NOSA AKENZUA how he plans to rule the kingdom
When exactly did you know that you would succeed your father as the king of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom?
Kingship is not like chieftaincy titles, it is ordained by the Almighty God. The time I would succeed my father, Obi Akaeze Edward Ofolue III, was not known to me until the unfortunate incident in which he was kidnapped and then murdered by gunmen in January. The subsequent ascension of my father’s throne was a decision from God and I appreciate Him for the decision.
Are you not afraid of suffering a similar fate?
My father’s death was shocking and I pray such will come my way. The Almighty God will protect me and the people of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom. My father’s killing was shocking and I still ask why his killers were so heartless to him. I seek protection from the Almighty God and I am sure that He will protect me.
How did your mother and siblings prepare for your ascension to the throne?
With the support of God Almighty, my family members did their best. A lot of them also ensured that they embraced peace and joy for me to be on the throne.
Do your schoolmates and friends still relate with you the same way they did before you became king?
My relationship with my friends and schoolmates still remain the same. They are still my friends and schoolmates. The only difference now is that I am a king by the divine grace of God. They are aware of the present position of things and also know the honour a king deserves.
How do your family members relate with you now that you have become king?
They are my people and they relate with me well and as a king. I owe them a duty to recognise that they are my family members and as well, they know I am a king.
What would you miss most about your life now that you are a king?
Thank you. I am a very reserved person. I also have an unshaken belief and trust in God. I worship Him in reverence too. Now that I am a king, I will miss relating with my peer group in the open as I used to do in the United Kingdom. I used to visit my friends at will. I will also miss that. Notwithstanding, I intend to ask more questions, listen to my people and strive hard to better their lives. I will ensure I am better guided in order to give the best of my capacity.
Have you decided when to marry?
Well, things will follow one thing at a time. For now, my focus is on my studies in the United Kingdom. I am going to ask God to lead me when I want to do that.
Who are your role models?
My first role model is the Almighty God. Then, I see my parents as my guardian angels.
Why are they your role models?
I choose God first as my role model because He is the giver of life. He is the one that determines everything in life. For my parents, it is because of their honest and reserved nature and for being able to distinguish themselves from others.
What kind of legacy would you like to leave behind?
I will leave that for Almighty God to help me to achieve. I cannot do anything without His power and guidance. But as a desire, I honestly would want to be remembered as the best king who ruled his people with prosperity, fear of God and love.
What is your message to the people of your kingdom?
Well, considering the heart-rending incident in which my beloved father lost his life, I will try to take everything slowly. I will also want them to know that God is with our land. I am certain that God is with the people of Ubulu-Uku who are my wonderful people. God will continue to protect them and lead them right. He will grant them mercies and bless them with His uncommon grace to succeed.
I will carry on during this difficult period and protect the good people of Ubulu-Uku by seeking God’s intervention to lead me well.
I pray that God will never leave the people of Ubulu-Uku. He will give them the grace to succeed in the name of Jesus.
What is your real age?
I am 17 years old and not 15 years as widely stated.
What career do you intend to choose?
I had wanted to be a medical doctor but the unfortunate incident that led to the death of my father changed the process. When it was announced that my father had been killed, I had no choice than to heed the call to succeed him. It is painful that my father passed on in an inexplicable circumstance. But to the glory of God, I have succeeded him in ruling the Ubulu-Uku kingdom.
What do you think is going to happen to your studies now?
I am going back to the UK to continue my studies. My uncle has been appointed to stand in for me as the regent till I return. It is really historic for the people of Ubulu-Uku who I hold in trust as my people and I ask the Almighty God to see me through the period of my studies. I promise to do the will of my people. I also ask the Almighty God to support me and bless the people of Ubulu-Uku beyond their expectations. I also beseech Him to bless the Kingdom and make my reign peaceful.

When I read in the newspapers that the President, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, was complaining in Ethiopia that our judiciary is his major headache in the highly dramatised programme of anti-corruption directed largely towards members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I remembered late Chief M.K.O. Abiola's witty remark that "the bigger the head, the bigger the headache."
This is not the first time the President had said something negative outside the country about Nigeria, about the immediate past government, or about the institutions of state.
Last year, while on a visit to the United States, Buhari hammered repeatedly on the high level of official corruption in Nigeria allegedly perpetrated by the then ruling PDP under the leadership of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Some months later, at a forum in France, he told the entire world that Nigeria was broke, and blamed it once again on corruption by the immediate past government.
At every opportunity, President Buhari and his subalterns, especially Lai Mohammed, Adams Oshiomhole and Nasir El-Rufai, do not waste time washing the dirty linen of Nigeria in public by telling the whole world how corrupt key members of the previous administration were, how they had stolen billions of naira and dollars from the public treasury.
When some Nigerians criticised the President for projecting an overly negative image of Nigeria and Nigerians to the world, thereby making our country seem risky and unattractive to foreign investors that his government claims to be encouraging to do business in Nigeria, Buharimaniacs both in government and outside of it were infuriated.
They argued, falsely, that Buhari was telling the whole truth and that there was nothing strategically wrong in the President declaring to the entire world that corruption has reached epidemic level in Nigeria.
Of course, astute managers of state know that "truth", especially in complicated socio-political context, is multi-dimensional and perspectival. It cannot be captured completely within a two-valued logic in which every proposition is either true or false.
Therefore, the sensible strategy for a leader to manage information that could have adverse international repercussions in a country such as ours currently facing serious economic challenges is to refrain from assertions that would send alarming signals to prospective indigenous and foreign businesspersons.
In other words, Buhari ought to be mindful of what he says about Nigeria, because as President he is the number one product from Nigeria, and his words carry a lot of weight. Smart leaders use words and expressions to describe their countries in a manner reminiscent of a bikini. It is clear, by just thinking of a beautiful woman in a bikini, that what the bikini reveals is interesting; but what it conceals is even more interesting.
Information management is a critical component of good governance and proactive foreign relations, which explains why governments all over the world spend huge sums of money to either suppress or neutralise information that might be detrimental to their geopolitical and economic interests; they also spend considerable resources in spreading information that projects positive image of their countries.
To take just two examples, despite the hydra-headed challenges of life in the United States, President Barak Obama consistently tries very hard to project the image of America as the greatest country in the world. In India, chronic poverty, preventable diseases, and obnoxious antiquated cultural practices make life extremely difficult for millions of people.
Yet, no Indian Prime Minister would dream of presenting that image to the world. On the contrary, the Indian government spends millions of dollars in global television advertorials highlighting the image of an "Incredible India."
Therefore, Buharimaniacs who see nothing wrong in President Buhari repeatedly denigrating Jonathan's government, raising alarm on the state of our economy, and casting aspersions on the judiciary so publicly and especially in foreign lands, are either naive or are so consumed by the desire to see the former President humiliated that they cannot comprehend the serious public relations damage their "truth-telling messiah" is doing to Nigeria and its people.
If the President and Buharimaniacs think that by telling the whole world, particularly the West, that his predecessor's government was neck-deep in corruption and that the country is facing economic crisis as a consequence in order to elicit sympathy and unalloyed support from America and European countries, then they are poor students of contemporary history.
The West, in general, and America, in particular, cannot help us, notwithstanding the pathetic picture Buhari is painting about Nigeria, because our country is not of strategic interest to the West anymore. Nigeria's contribution in trade with Europe and America is low, and it is tilted heavily in favour of the West anyway because the country is a chronic import-dependent country.
More importantly, crude oil, which gave Nigeria some advantage in the international arena for the first four decades after the civil war, has lost a lot of its economic and diplomatic significance. Nothing exemplifies the dwindling influence of Nigeria in the international political economy now than the steady decline in the price of crude oil in the international market.
In my opinion, any support from Western leaders for the Buhari administration would be mere tokenism since, in their reckoning, Nigeria is no longer as important as she used to be due to the decline of crude petroleum in shaping the architectonic of diplomacy worldwide.
Keep in mind the subterranean racial undercurrents and inequalities in international politics. Notwithstanding the declaration, in relevant charters of the United Nations, that all peoples, irrespective of their differences, belong to one human family, some key decision makers in Europe and her cultural colonies in North America still believe strongly in the racial inferiority of the black race when compared with the white race.
Nigeria contains the biggest concentration of black people in the world. As a result, it would be a mistake for any Nigerian leader to bend over backwards, to the extent Buhari is doing right now, in the hope that the West would look at Nigeria with kindly eyes and help our leaders to rebuild the economy and political institutions to meet global standards.
President Buhari's wry identification of the judiciary as his major headache in the attempt to deal with those accused of corruption can be interpreted in different ways.
To begin with, it can be interpreted as an indictment of the judiciary as complicit in allowing corrupt VIP Nigerians to escape justice. Some respected jurists have lamented the fact that the virus of corruption has penetrated the judiciary, with devastating effects on the justice delivery system nationwide.
From this point of view, the President is largely correct. There are indications that nowadays, judgment goes to the highest bidder. No doubt, there are excellent magistrates, judges and justices of the Supreme Court who are performing their duties in accordance with best global practices. Unfortunately, there are judicial officers for whom justice is determined by the size of the bribe you are willing to give.
In addition, the President is venting his frustration with a system which he believes truncated his first three attempts to lead the country in a democratic setting. He narrated his harrowing experiences, beginning with his first attempt, thus: "I ended up in the Supreme Court and for thirteen months I was in the court. The second attempt in 2007 I was in court close to twenty months and in 2011, my third attempt, I was also in court for nine months."

New Telegraph – The major organs of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have recently been enmeshed in a battle of wits over the control of the party’s hierarchy, after the appointment of a former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, as the party’s national chairman.
Though the players might have temporarily sheath their swords, what many did not see was the undercurrent that led to the power-play, which first appeared as a rumour, later seen as a rude joke. But now, it is gradually leaving the realm of speculation and has become an issue that is being discussed in high level political gatherings.
Even the craftiest of politicians wouldn’t have believed that the idea would fly; the new chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and the Governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose are planning a joint ticket towards the 2019 presidential election, the Saturday Telegraph has learnt.
The duo are not just teaming up to fight for the PDP ticket, they are battle-ready to slog it out with the ruling All Progressives Ali Modu SheriffCongress (APC) during the general election in 2019, a move that is quietly destabilising both the erstwhile ruling party and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Insiders within the PDP confided in Saturday Telegraph that the move from Sheriff and Fayose accounts for the latest crisis in the PDP, saying that was why Fayose galvanised the PDP governors to support the emergence of Sheriff as the chairman of the party.
Even Sheriff himself did not leave anybody in doubt that this is about 2019, when, after mounting the saddle, at his maiden press conference, he told the world that he did not know when his tenure would end, and that the PDP is battle-ready for 2019, promising to return PDP to power in the next three years.
Though Sheriff was brought on board to complete the tenure of the former chairman, Adamu Muazu, who resigned after the 2015 Fayoseelection, he shocked even his closest supporters when he told the gathering that his exit would be determined by the party leaders.
One of the party’s top players in the South West, who claimed to be at a meeting where the issue was discussed, said Sheriff believed that a combination of his own popularity in the North and Fayose’s rising profile in the South West might give the duo an edge if they team up.
According to the PDP insider, the APC might be at a crossroads because the body language of President Muhammadu Buhari is not suggestive of a definite action, noting that Sheriff’s idea is to capitalise on the inaction of Buhari to his own advantage.
Though, he believed that the new PDP helmsman might have been tainted with speculations about his alleged link with Boko Haram, he was of the opinion that the Northerners are not seeing him in that light, while noting that all that would have been quelled before 2019. “We are not sure whether Buhari will run for second term or not, but feelers from the APC suggest that they are in a dilemma, because the president is not talking to them about his future.
So, they are not sure. “If PDP wants to win in 2019, we have to start the game plan now. Sheriff has his people in the APC, he knows what is going on and he is a smart politician. Even though, people in the South don’t like him because of the Boko Haram stain, the Northerners don’t think of him like that. “In politics, you need people that are strong willed. Sheriff and Fayose are both controversial politicians, but they believe that the masses are with them.
They are sure of the South-South and South- East votes, they only need to work on the North and South West, and that is why they came up with the choice of Fayose “If Sheriff can stick with the present arrangement adopted by the APC, he has a good chance, because he is very popular in the North. They will surely go with him, but Fayose would have to continue his inroad into other South West states to firm up his popularity.
However, sources close to both players are not totally denying the move, while some say it is their constitutional right to run, if they so desire, others believe that it is an idea being sponsored by some bigwigs in the APC, so as to discredit the PDP.
A PDP member, who was among those opposed to the emergence of Sheriff as the PDP chairman, said the idea is just unthinkable, he said it is something that can never happen in the PDP. “How do you think that can fly? It is absolute falsehood, how on earth will anybody even think of that?
As ordinary party chairman, Sheriff was rejected by virtually all organs of the PDP, especially the decision-making groups. “He was only given a soft landing to remain in office till May.
The man is badly tainted. How could such a person lead the country? It is absolute nonsense; it is just an imagination that can never see the light of day. What do you take PDP for? Misfits and charlatans can’t rule over us, it is totally impossible. “That is a wicked rumour. The day that happens will be the day the PDP folds up, that I can bet with my life.
How can you pair two tainted individuals? We all know how Fayose is seen in the South West, if not for immunity, he wouldn’t even be a governor by now”, he said. Regardless of the stance of some opposition within the party, those who believe that the idea was a possibility in 2019, said fingers remain crossed.
In response, Lere Olayinka, who is the Special Adviser on Media to Fayose, said, though he was not aware of the arrangement, “Fayose is qualified not just as VP, but the president of Nigeria.”
But the APC is leaving nothing to chance, as it hurriedly conveyed a meeting of its leaders during the week to fashion a way to respond to the latest move by the PDP. In the absence of Buhari, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday met with party leaders, including, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande; Senate President, Bukola Saraki; APC national leader, Bola Tinubu and a host of others.
Saturday Telegraph learnt that the meeting was not only convened to address urgent happenings within the party, it also dwelled on the emergence of Sheriff as the n e w P D P chairman.
It was gathered that the APC stalwarts are concerned that the new helmsman of the PDP is extremely popular and has a large followership in the North coupled with a financial might that can bring about a change in the political fortune of the PDP. At the meeting, the APC leaders were said to have been given an immediate task to close ranks, put aside all bickering within their caucuses and look for a way to shore up the popularity of the party, especially in the southern part of the country.
Saturday Telegraph’s sources also informed that the party leaders, Abubakar and Tinubu, were specifically mandated to ensure that the duo of Sheriff and Fayose were wooed to jump ship and return home, because they were hitherto with the ‘progressives’, or cripple their wings and curtail their rising profiles if the other option is not achievable. In the same vein, the APC had earlier in a statement said it was wishful thinking for the PDP to think of ‘conquering’ the presidency again.
The party said it was baffling how the PDP expects Nigerians to abandon APC’s smooth sailing ship for a sinking and rudderless one. The National Secretary of APC, Mai Mala Buni, said Nigerians were a w a r e that the current economic hardship and institutional rot was caused by the PDP’s 16-year misrule and pillage, while noting that Buhari has been working assiduously to correct the PDP’s years of damage and bring about people-centric governance.
According to him; “The 2015 elections has been won and lost. The priority of the present APC administration is to deliver on election promises made by the party to Nigerians who have long desired change of political leadership at the federal level and in many states.
“The APC is reluctant to join issues with Ali Modu Sheriff’s idle 2019 postulations and would rather pursue issues that will bring about all-inclusive development in the country.
“Happily, Nigerians can look back with relief and attest that since the APC-led administration took over governance, Nigeria is back on the right track – economically and security-wise and has taken its right of place among the comity of progressive nations.
“The widely-acclaimed job creation, social welfare and inclusion programmes proposed by the Buhari administration has been well received. The full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) by the present administration has greatly plugged revenue leakages.
The presidential directive to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to adjust its pricing template to reflect competitive and market driven components has resulted in a more efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also brought about constant availability of fuel nationwide.
“Nigeria is winning the war against insurgency. In spite of desperate attempts to discredit ongoing anticorruption efforts, the war against graft is being won.
“In reiterating the recent submission of the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, for the first time in many years, Nigeria now has a solidly positive international image and the president is trying to cash in on this image to help rescue our nation from the throes, the economic morass which the PDP 16-year misrule has plunged it.

No fewer than 42 musicians including Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi and Fuji artistes, K1, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Suleiman Alao Malaika have signed up to perform at the coronation ceremony of new Olubadan- designate, High Chief Saliu Adetunji. The installation of Chief Adetunji as the 41st Olubadan is slated for Friday March 4, 2016 in the ancient city. An impeccable palace source confided in The Nation that the musicians cut across major Yoruba music genres such as Juju, Fuji, Apala and Highlife. The source added that none of the artistes wants to miss the opportunity to perform for the new Olubadan, who is a major player in the music industry. Adetunji is a music producer and promoter under some record labels including Omo Aje Sound Studio. The artistes are being coordinated by K-1, who is a major artiste on Omo Aje Sound Studio label. Sunday Orisaguna’s life has always been tough and challenging. He came to Lagos in 2009 to wash cars, for four years, after his father died.

He again came back to Lagos to ride ‘okada’ for another three years. Sunday and Olajumoke have two daughters, Grace (5) and Precious (16 months).

Jumoke met her husband, Sunday, Orisaguna, an aluminum doors and windows installer while she was training as a ‘hair dresser’ in Ire. He visited often and the trainees liked him because he’s funny.

Eventually, he told Jumoke that he fancied her, and would like to make her his wife. She told him she would think about it, and it took her 6 months to agree.

How do you feel today?
I am very happy. I never expected it. I didn’t know things will turn around for us this soon. I wasn’t expecting it. I cannot express how I feel today.

I didn’t know we can get to where we are today. From the time I was born till now. It is overwhelming. I didn’t ever envisage such a great thing. I didn’t know we can ever get here.

What actually happened, why did your wife come over to Lagos and you didn’t come with her?

I live in Ire, Osun state. We were living together there before she came over to Lagos. Ire Poly went on strike early in the year.

Because of that, things were a bit slow. There were no sales. I am an artisan. I make aluminum doors and windows. She is a hairdresser.

Students patronized her a lot, but once there is strike, sales will be on a low scale. She decided to come over to Lagos and find something doing. She didn’t have it in mind to do a particular business.

She just said when she comes over, she will get any profitable venture she can engage in. it was when she got to Lagos she called to tell me that she was selling bread. She left our first child, Grace at home.
She said will not stay because she is a baby. We communicated very well. There is no problem. We agreed she should come over.

How have you been coping without her and taking care of your daughter?
My daughter is with my mom. She is the one taking care of the girl. It has not been too difficult to cope as such because of that.

Now that she is in Lagos, are you also coming over?
Yes, that is what we are praying for. We need to relocate. We need accommodation and every other thing. Lagos is not an easy place.

We didn’t know we would get a house. We don’t know how far it is from the house and her work place. You have to consider the traffic and everything. Unless one has a personal car we can use to drive her to work so that she wouldn’t be late for work.

I will go back home to bring my other daughter so that we can all come over to Lagos.

Do you like the work your wife is doing?
Yes, I like it. I am really excited about it.

Do you feel threatened that she is now famous and has gone ahead of you?

I am not afraid because when we had nothing, she was always there. If I said I needed this, she would give me. I am not afraid.

If she is rich today, we both own it. I trust her for that. She has been a very good wife. I believe she will continue to be good.

How long have you been married?
We have been married for six years.

How did your path and hers cross?
She came to greet her grandma in my area some years back. She came from Lagos. She went to her mother’s younger sister, who introduced her to hairdressing.

I used to go to where she was learning hairdressing to toast her but she insisted that she came to learn hairdressing and not to befriend a man.

I used to go there often and after six months, she said yes, that was how it all started

Anger, fury and frustration was the order of the day within the premises of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, because on Friday morning as news filtered in that all top management staff members had been sacked.
PMParrotng.com investigation, however, showed that the letter handed over to the management staff and heads of departments only said they were being ‘disengaged’.
It could not be confirmed if other categories of staff members were affected in the ‘tsunami’ that hit the Ile Akede Headquarters of the broadcasting house.
It will be recalled that the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi paid an unscheduled meeting to the Basorun, Ibadan parastatal some days back. During the visit, he clearly informed the staffers that he was going to embark on total restructuring of the broadcasting outfit.
One of the affected top management staff who spoke under the condition of anonymity with PMParrot.com informed us that many of them did not know that the ‘restructuring’ exercise will be this ‘tsunamic’!
Said the senior staff “the governor knows what he is doing. This place is filled up with politicians. Most of us are even not in tune with modern day ways of running a broadcasting house. The truth must be told. On the part of the government, trainings and retraining exercises are also not being carried out. But the massive sack came as a shock to most of us. Many of our colleagues are even furious.”
When we contacted the governor’s communication team members, Mr Yomi Layinka (the Special Adviser)and Akin Oyedele on the phone to hear the government’s side, they did not pick the calls and our correspondents at the Governor’s Office confirmed that the duo were not in their offices.

1. Dollar is not our currency so dollar should not be our business.
2. Our problem is not d government but our problem is our importers and consumers.
3. Naira has remained at 197 naira to 1 dollar since Buhari became president.
4. Buhari has promised not to devalue the Naira and he has maintained that promise.
5. Both at CBN and at interbank rates, dollar has remained 197.
6. However because we are too lazy to produce what we use in Nigeria we import even toothpicks and matches.
7. Buhari does not like d importation of luxury goods because luxury goods is d reason for most corruption, that is why he banned 41 products from having access to forex.
8. However when Nigerian importers insisted on importing those 41 products, FG asked them to find their dollar at d BDCs parallel market also known as black market.
9. And to discourage the pressure Nigerians are mounting on the Naira just to get dollars for importation, CBN banned DMBs from selling dollars to BDCs.
10. To survive the pressure of excess dollar demands, BDCs resorted to sourcing for dollars from neighbouring countries through illicit money laundering routes.
11. Because of the risks faced by BDCs to source for dollars, and because of the increase in demand for dollars by importers because China just resumed from their business holidays, BDCs keep increasing the price at which they exchange dollars to naira and now it is 400 naira to 1 dollars.
12. However that does not mean that govt has changed the exchange rate because if our genuine importers go to CBN and fill Form M to import raw materials for local production, they will get dollars at 197 naira each.
13. So the problem is that we love to consume luxury foreign products yet we are too lazy to manufacture them here.
14. For example u will see a dull girl using iPhone 5 without even knowing simple physics and computer engineering part of how that phone was produced.
15. I want Buhari to ban every foreign product from Nigeria until Nigerians learn to produce and use Made in Nigeria products.
16. Let us stop complaining about dollar as if dollar has become Nigeria's currency.
17. It is even bad enough that most of those complaining about the high exchange rate of dollar do not have 1 single dollar in their purse.
