A small boy named Ogaga lived in a village in
Delta state. None of his classmates liked him
because of his stupidity. In fact, his teacher
always yelled at him saying, ‘You this waste
of space, you will never amount to anything in
life!’
One day Ogaga’s mother came to school to
check on how he was doing. The teacher told
her quite frankly that she had never seen such
a dumb boy in all her life, and advised his
mother to withdraw and enroll him under a
handcrafter because formal schooling for
Ogaga would be a total waste of time and
space!
The mother was shocked at the feedback,
withdrew her son from the school and moved
to Benin City.
Twenty-five years later the teacher was
diagnosed with a brain tumour. All the
doctors she met strongly advised her to do
surgery – one which only one doctor in the
whole of South-southern Nigeria (practicing in
Benin) could perform. Left with no other
option the teacher opted for surgery, which
was successful.
When she opened her eyes in the ICU hours
after surgery, she saw a handsome doctor
smiling down at her. She wanted to thank him
but could not talk. Suddenly her face started
to turn blue, she frantically made attempts to
raise her hand and tell him something... until
she died.
The doctor was shocked; he tried to find out
what went wrong. Eventually he found out that
it was our friend Ogaga – now working as a
cleaner in the hospital – who had
disconnected the ventilator to connect his
phone charger!
Like, seriously? You thought that Ogaga
became the doctor? Not in this story ooo, ehn

Militant leader Government
Ekpemupolo, popularly known as
Tompolo, has taken over the
structure of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta
state, and his candidate is set to
be named the running mate of
Ifeanyi Okowa, the party’s
governorship candidate.
According to a high-ranking
member of the party, the
influence of Tompolo, who
recently acquired
seven warships from Norway,
has grown to the extent that “he
determines who ends up
becoming what” in the state
chapter of the party.
“Everyone is afraid of him. He is
fully in control and dictates what
happens here in Delta,” the
source, who did not want to be
named, said.
“He is fond of intimidating those
who are not in his good books.
Recently, the names of some
people who won the primary
election for the state and
national assembly were replaced
on his orders.
“He uses his influence in Abuja
to fight those who are not in his
camp. There is so much
confusion in Delta right now.
Some people who won the
party’s ticket would not return. I
can confirm to you that the
current deputy speaker of the
delta state house of assembly, in
the person of Basil Ganagana
would not return to the house
even though he won the
primaries.”
The source further alleged that
not even Emmanuel Uduaghan,
governor of the state, can
challenge the might of Tompolo.
He added that Okowa beat Tony
Obuh, the preferred candidate of
Uduaghan, to the state
governorship ticket due to the
influence of Tompolo.
In another instance, he
continued, Kingsley Otuaro, a
commissioner at the Delta State
Oil Producing Areas
Development Commission
(DESOPADEC) who is also loyal
to Tompolo, would emerge as
the deputy governorship
candidate of the party ahead of
the forthcoming election.
“As I speak to you now,
everything has been put in place
to name Tompolo’s candidate as
the running mate of Okowa. This
is no secret; it is a well-known
fact but everybody is afraid to
talk,” the source said.
“Do you think it is ordinary that
Uduaghan lost in two ways? He
dropped his senatorial bid for
James Manager and still could
not get his candidate to replace
him. We all know the reason but
who would talk?
“The governor is Itsekiri and
Tompolo is from Gbaramatu
kingdom, the Ijaws, so that factor
alone is causing problems
between them.”
Recently, Lagos lawyer, Festus
Keyamo was involved in a
dispute with Tompolo over the
replacement of Weyinmi
Omadeli, the PDP chairmanship
candidate in Warri south-west
local government with George
Ekpemupolo, Tompolo’s younger
brother.
The brother is the current
chairman of the local
government.
Some days after Keyamo made
the issue public, the lawyer
raised an alarm that the militant
leader had threatened to kill him,
and he petitioned Suleiman
Abba, the inspector general of
police, over alleged death threat.
Tompolo, a former commander of
Movement for the Emancipation
of the Niger Delta (MEND) once
declared “the most wanted man
in Nigeria” in 2009 during the
administration of late President

Accord to refund fees of unsuccesful
aspirants. All aspirants who lost at the
just concluded primaries of the Accord will
have their nomination forms fees return
any moment from now. A chieftain of the
party and former speaker of the state House of
Assembly, Honourable Adeolu
Adeleke, disclosed this while speaking
with Sunday Tribune. Adeleke said the
decision was unprecedented in the history
of party politics in the country and a
denonstration that Accord, unlike other
parties, does not delight in making
fortunes from those who offer themselves
for an opportunity to serve the state. If
you monitor what transpired during the
primaries of others parties in the state,
you will have observed that the successful
candidates in other partiea as well as the
unsuccessful ones coughed out a fortune
in their bid to grab the ticket of their
parties. But in Accord, our guided
primaries went smoothly, though it was a
huge task getting 50 candidates out of the
over 350 aspirants that we had for all
the offices. This figure, you can contradict
me if you have contrary information, is far
higher than the figures for all the other
parties in the state put together. This has
shown one thing: that Accord is winning the
next general election, especially now
that we know those who will be
contending with our leader and former
governor, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. He is
the best among these contesting. With

aspirants, we have opened

A former governor of Oyo State and national
leader of Accord Party (AP), Senator Rashidi
Ladoja, has said the party will have no choice
but to field his former deputy, Chief Adebayo
Alao-Akala, to fly the party’s flag for Oyo
North Senatorial election if it is the
unanimous decision of Accord leaders in
Ogbomoso zone.
Ladoja made this known while speaking with
newsmen shortly after he was cleared as
Accord’s governorship candidate by the
screening committee from Abuja, at the state
secretariat of the party in Ibadan on Friday.
The former governor also disclosed that the
party had agreed that his running mate should
come from Oke-Ogun zone, while Ogbomoso,
which is a key component of the Oyo North
Senatorial District, is to produce the
senatorial candidate.
He described Accord as “a winning party”
whose doors would not be shut against any
politician in the state, adding that with the
state-wide popularity of the party, 2015
elections would be won convincingly by the
party.
On the speculation that the party risks being
polarised over the choice of candidates,
Ladoja said Accord would prove doomsday
prophets wrong, as it had already produced
four House of Representatives candidates
through consensus option.
“Accord decided whom it wanted as its
governorship candidate and I was chosen by
the leaders. That was why it was easier for
the screening committee to take a decision to
clear me. There will be primaries in the party
for all positions including the governorship.
“This is what the law requires. Even in a
situation where there is a sole candidate,
majority of the party members must all
endorse that candidate. Those who are
waiting for a time crisis will erupt in Accord
are waiting for Godot because our party has
grown beyond what such people think.
“Our party will give the people of Oyo State
the kind of representatives they want at the
state and national levels. Accord is the
government-in-waiting. It is not our doing
but Almighty’s grace that we have enjoyed as

The federal government has unveiled
the names of Nigeria’s Top 100
companies set to be honoured by
President Goodluck Jonathan on
Monday.
Some of the companies include Dangote
Group, First Bank, Chevron, Elizade,
MTN, Globacom, Chi Group, Nigerian
Breweries, Nigeria Flour Mills, UAC,
APN Terminal, Eko Supreme, Mamuda
Industries, Dolphin Foods, Wemco,
Bolawaole Enterprises and Indorama.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and
Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga,
described the Top 100 Businesses
Initiative as a bold effort to celebrate
major investors and companies that are
contributing to the development of the
economy.
Aganga said that the country adopted
similar criteria as Fortune 500 in the
US, in selecting the top businesses. He
said this makes it very objective and
verifiable.
“We want to make it absolutely clear
that it has integrity. Coincidentally, it is
happening in the year of our centenary.
But we will in 120 years, in 150 years,
in 200 years go back to the Centenary
City, we will see the emblem of these
companies as a Top 100 companies in
the year Nigeria had at its centenary,”
he stated.
He expressed pride at the achievement
of the selected companies, as it is
investors that create jobs, wealth,
facilitate economic growth and generate
income for the government.
“We intend to use this Top 100
Businesses Presidential Award Dinner
to say big thank you to those
companies for their firm commitment
and belief in our economy and to charge
them to do more by bringing more
investments to Nigeria.
“It is also aimed at creating a platform
for public-private sector interactions on
Nigerian economic policies.
Aganga noted that with the yearning for
diversification of Nigeria’s economy,
the Top 100 list has shown that the
country is moving in the right direction.
“They cut across sectors including oil

The chips were down,
in the high time tide,
as the Blues were,
off to the Merseyside.
With the season
slowly passing by,
the game was crucial,
the stakes were high.
The Blues cost them
the title last time around
after an enthralling display
on this very ground.
A fixture which the Reds
certainly wanted to avenge
as they finally had theirs
chance to seek revenge.
Heroes of the country
were first remembered
for the sake of their country
to death who had surrendered.
Their sacrifice was mourned
by the entire crowd
and they were celebrated
remembered and cheered aloud.
The adrenaline pumped
through every heart
as the referee blew
for the match to start.
From the start, it was vicious,
intense with rage,
the events to follow
would certainly amaze.
The hosts went into the
fixture with no fear,
right from the start,
their plan was clear.
They looked threatening
right from the start,
but the blues were efficient,
tricky and smart.
But unluckily a ball
pierced the tight blue shield,

As clever Dave latched on

Your Excellency,
Where are the dividends of democracy you
promised us in Oyo-state.?
I am constrained to make this an open letter to you
for a number of reasons. Many Peoples totally
believed in your government to bring the needed
change to Oyo State than PDP but thay have
regret till this day) because ur administration is
not performing than PDP administration.
Sir, to start with, Sir, I wish to remind you some of
your promises before the election specifically the
ones you made at Splash FM during the 2011
gubernatorial debate and to know about your
performance on each of the promises so far:
ROAD: Your Excellency Sir, you promised to open
up rural areas for our agricultural produce to get to
the city. Sir, how many of these roads have been
open up since you got to office and where? You
promised to dualise all major roads leading to the
city. Sir, how many of our major cities road have
been dualised so far and where? You promised to
construct most of these roads with direct labour.
Can you please state how many direct labour acts
your administration employed in constructing these
roads? You promised to network with Lagos State
on light rail system. Please sir, what is your
administration’s progress report on this?
POWER: Sir, on power generation for the state, you
promised to build tarmac stations through
industrial clusters, work with NGC (Nigeria Gas
Company) to bring gas pipeline from Ikorodu to
our city gate, get coals from Kogi, Benue and
Enugu to build turbine that will be generating 400
metric tons and also use the five major dams in
Oyo State to generate power for the citizens and
for our economic developments. What is your
administration doing on this and what is the
present situation report?
WATER AND HOUSING: you confirmed the fact that
less than 50 per cent of Oyo State residents have
access to clean water in 2011 and you promised to
improve on that by building mini water works in
every local government in the state, along with
other water programs. Sir, what have you done to
improve on this status putting in mind that the GM
of Water Corporation of Oyo State recently
confirmed on Voices that more than 70 per cent of
us still don’t have access to water?
On Housing; you promised to build housing units
for civil servants (2-bedroom flats for levels 1-6, 3-

administration’s achievements in this regard?
SECURITY OF LIFE AND PROPERTY:
I wish to know how many direct and indirect jobs
your administration has provided within the past 3
years? What have you done about the social safety
net? What is going on with the police trust fund
you promised?
ECONOMY: You promised to minimize corruption,
develop and encourage trading, industrial and
commercial activities, resuscitate farm settlements
by providing social amenities to encourage youth
involvement in agriculture and also transparency
and accountability. Sir, though I think your
responses on economy are vague, but to what
percentage have you been able to reduced
corruption in the state?How far have you been able
to develop and encourage trading, commercial, and
industrial activities; giving the fact that your
administration has demolished most of our
markets and shops without building new ones? but
I believe a responsible and people oriented
government should have built other alternative
markets for people before embarking on that kind
of exercise. I want to believe your administration is
working against the common people that cast their
votes for you. Sir, by what percentage has your
administration improved the state’s IGR (Internal
Generated Revenue) and what are its positive
impacts on the state?
EDUCATION: Sir, during the interview, you promised
to follow UNESCO’s recommendation. You
promised teachers ratio to students to be 1:30 by
the first year of your administration and to achieve
the 1:25 by the second year. Please what have you
been able to do on education. Since at the last
check teachers’ ratio to students in majority of our
primary and secondary schools are still about 1:50
or more? The Polytechnic, Ibadan has been on
strike for about 3 months over a matter that can be
resolved easily and your administration does not
feel concerned. Since your children are enjoying
their studies abroad, your administration can afford
to waste the time of these youth until whenever
you are ready. What is the present state of Oke-
Ibadan high school and other schools you used to
campaign? I hope they now have chairs and roof?
How many teachers have you been able to recruit
within the last 3 years of your administration?It is
so funny that your generation benefited from the
free education provided by the generation before
you and yet your administration does not see the
need to do something drastically to improve on the
status of education in our state.
Finally, before I draw the curtain, I wish to seek
clarification on some other related issues:
Sir, what is happening to the N50billion bond that
your administration is proposing? Since your
people keep preaching that your administration has
not incurred any debt or perhaps I don’t
understand the meaning of bond. Please, is bond a
debt or a gift?
Why has your administration refused to conduct
local governments’ election?
Sir, do you think Mokola Bridge is serving its
purpose since the traffic jam has now been pushed
to Adamasingba junction?
Where are the Oyato buses and taxis?
Why another Ajumose buses?
Your administration’s inability to ask questions
about the oyato buses and taxis bought with the
state’s money by the last administration gives us
a clue that Ajumose buses may also disappear
after your tenure in office.
Your administration embarked on the “ABC clinic”
propaganda yet refused to upgrade the existing
health facilities. New state Ade-Oyo is a good
example,
why did your administration use the same
resources that can be used to upgrade the hospital
to build another “ABC clinic” just because your
administration wants us to think it performing
more than the previous administration.
Sir is this truly for the benefit of the masses or to
serve the ego of your administration?
Sir, I believe a good leader is the one that looks
beyond the present to the future. I wish to know
the purpose of the Ajumose syndrome.
Why Ajumose this, Ajumose that?
I sincerely don’t believe this state belongs to either
of you alone but to every one of us and you don’t
have the right to name it after yourselves but to
give us a general identity we can all buy into.
We need a leader that thinks beyond the next term
in office and how to build a legacy that the next
generation will be proud of. The idea that you are
an “Awoist” is laughable.
I believe strongly that this administration is not
better than the previous administration,
I challenge your administration to domesticate the
Freedom of Information (FOI) Act if this
administration is truly what it looks like.

There was heavy security presence, on
Thursday, as the election petition tribunal
adjudicating over complaints arising from
the result of the August 9 governorship
poll in Osun State continued its
proceedings within the complex of the
state High Court.
Anti-riot policemen, numbering over 70,
were sighted, providing water-tight
security along Oke-Fia/Ilobu road, where
the High Court is located, just as the road
was permanently closed to traffic for
almost three hours the proceedings
lasted.
Though it could not be ascertained what
informed the heavy security presence, the
development precipitated traffic gridlock,
as motorists, pedestrians and
commercials motorcyclists were diverted
from Oke Fia roundabout to the
Government Reservation Area (GRA), with
a view to assessing their respective
destinations.
Judicial staff, journalists and other
categories of people allowed entry into
the court premises were thoroughly
frisked with bomb detectors by stern-
looking security operatives, while about
five Hilux patrol vans belonging to the
police were strategically parked closed to
the venue of the tribunal.
However, the three-member panel, headed
by Justice Elizabeth N. Ikpejime,
adjourned its ruling on the competence of
the petition filed by the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) governorship
candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, till next
week Monday.
The panel also struck out application for
the extension of the inspection time
regarding electoral materials used for
election, having been withdrawn by the
counsel for the petitioner, Mr Alex Izinyon.
Earlier, the lead counsel for the first
respondent (Rauf Aregbesola), Mr Akin
Olujimi, had argued that the tribunal
“lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the
Omisore’s petition due to lack of
competence.”
According to him, “I want to call the
attention of the tribunal to paragraph 53,
sub-paragraph 5 of the first schedule of
the Electoral Act 2010, bordering on
mandatory provision directing that your
Lordships are under a duty to determine
the irregularity and competence of
election petition,” stressing that “the
objection we are raising challenging the
competence of the petition cannot be
taken with the petition.”
But, counsel for Omisore and the PDP, Mr
Izinyon, described the decided Court of
Appeal cases cited by the counsel to the
first respondent as old testaments
references, maintaining that paragraph 12
sub-section 5 of the Electoral Act 2010 as
amended, provided legal cover for all the
matters raised to be heard alongside the
petition.
While citing Osunbor Vs Oshiomohle 2007
LRECN page 79 and Enukeme Vs Onumasi
2014 LEELR page 2354 to buttress his
argument, he stated that “the Court of
Appeal in the cases held that all matters
can be heard together, as time is of
essence in election petition.”
