Q: Do you think you have to understand Tocopilla to understand your achievements?

Football opened doors in my life and has allowed me to help my family, and for that I am very proud.
Who gave you your first boots?
One afternoon Mr. Courtois brought them to me, who was the mayor of Tocopilla and who liked Arauco, my team. I didn’t have shoes because my mother could not afford them. When the mayor gave them to me, I couldn’t wait more than two hours. I took off those Reeboks and went out into the street to play on the cement, with boots made for grass. I was as happy as a dog with two tails.
When did it become clear you would be a footballer?
Since I was little, practically a baby, it was clear to me. I would say to my mother: “Relax, I’m going to become a footballer and it will all turn out okay, we’ll have money.” And she would laugh. I would also say to my friends: “I’m going to give a car to you, a house to you…” I dreamed of cleaning up all of Tocopilla… I have not given my friend the car, he needs to earn it, but I am searching for a way to help Tocopilla however I can – I will find a way. I have made reality the dreams of that boy that played in the street against adults – and they gave me some kicks! But I came back to play against them every time. My football is that of the street.
Is it difficult to play in Barcelona?
Yes, I think so. I’ve had to learn to play football all over again. What I did in Italy I could not do here. Before taking a player on one-on-one I should open up the field, look for space. Before I would always wait for the ball at my feet, try to beat three players, and I was the one that passed the ball into space, because other players opened the field for me.
Villa said that at Barça he focused most on Pedro to understand his movements. And you?
I watch everyone, because they all have something I can learn from. From Iniesta his acceleration, from Xavi how he moves, from Leo how he thinks before receiving the ball, from Pedro how to work. The confidence Guardiola gave me helped me greatly in learning Barça’s play.
Why is that?
He gave me special attention and trusted me. Sometimes he would tell the other players: “pass the ball to Alexis, pass it to his back, he knows how to protect the ball.” That made me feel great, like a Ferrari.
Do you think that you’re now a better player than when you arrived?
I believe that I’ve adapted and that is very important when we talk about the best team in the world. But I’m still not what I can be, I am sure that I can be better, and that I am not playing entirely freely. I have shown that I can beat players here and give an assist, like I did in Italy – but I also have a sense of what I have not yet demonstrated. It’s that at times I want to take a defender on one-on-one but I can’t shoot, because the team is behind me and I know I should pass the ball back to start play over. Ours is a special type of play and I know I have to adapt.
In Chile, do you play differently?
Of course. To begin with, in Chile I feel more free, because it’s a different style. I get less tired with Barça, for [with] the national team I lead the front three, all over the field all game. If the gains from the World Bank-assisted Science and Technology Education Post-Basic Project (Step-B) are sustained, the University of Ilorin may soon introduce new anti-malaria derivatives into the country’s pharmaceutical industry.
The derivatives are parts of the 300 new compounds discovered at the laboratory of Prof. Joshua Ayoola Obaleye, one of the Step-B funded researchers at the University.
Malaria, an infectious disease characterised by cycles of chills, fever, and sweating, caused by a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium in red blood cells, which is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female anopheles mosquito, is a scourge in tropical Africa. It is particularly dangerous when children and pregnant women are attacked.
In a chat with University Bulletin last Monday (September 2, 2013), Prof. Obaleye disclosed that the new compounds have been tested on animals and microbes and found to be very successful, adding that “the next stage is to try it on humans”.
Prof. Obaleye stressed that his new discoveries are of higher value than existing derivatives, adding that after patenting, available compounds can be mass produced for the pharmaceutical industries for further processing into anti- malaria drugs.
He then called on Nigerian philanthropists to come to the aid of researchers by funding research more like it is being done in developed economies.
Eulogising the wisdom behind the Step-B project, the Professor of Inorganic Chemistry, who is a visiting Professor to many Universities in India, Zimbabwe, Italy and Israel, recalled that “before Step-B, things were very difficult to achieve. Though we travel outside the country for one award or the other, we still need to beg for global attention and recognition.”
He said, “In the past, I used to write and write for my articles to be published in journals. Now, I publish in journals very easily. Colleagues in foreign countries can follow activities of my laboratory from these journals. They get the same result and thus appreciate our efforts.
“Step-B is an organisation that has helped us move forward in several areas of research. Many problems afflicting researchers in this country were resolved under Step-B.
“From Step-B, I now have several research collaborators from outside the country. These people help to supervise postgraduate students who are working in this laboratory. One of them, who incidentally is on ground, is Prof. Avinash Kumbhar of the Department of Chemistry, University of Pune, India.”
Prof. Obaleye also disclosed that many researchers from Nigerian universities like the University of Ibadan, University of Jos, and the Delta State University come freely to use facilities in his Step-B equipped laboratory, adding that “we are not collecting a penny from anyone. Step-B gave us freely and we have to give it out freely.”
Inside the well-stocked laboratory located at the Chemistry Department, there are facilities comparable to many others worldwide such as Spectrophotometer, Infra-red Spectrophotometer, Gas Chromatograph and atomic absorption Spectrophotometer.
One of Prof. Obaleye's collaborators, Prof. Kumbhar, who was busy in the laboratory, told Unilorin Bulletin of plans to elevate the collaboration between him and the Unilorin researcher to institutional level whereby the University of Pune, India and the University of Ilorin, would, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), work out staff and students development exchange programmes among other benefits.
He said that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ambali, is already aware of , and is encouraging, this plan.
Responding to questions on scholarships, fellowships and grant opportunities to Nigerian students from Indian government, the visiting Professor, who is also the Coordinator of National Centre for Free Radical Research (NCFRR), India, discussed the opportunities provided by the BST-TWAS funding partnership.
BST-TWAS, according to him, is an Indian government partnership with an agency of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

It's really saddening what's happening on this Thread.
This's actually what the 'BETTER BY FAR' UNIVERSITY has caused.
My little advice is this:
Please calm your nerves down, Last Year's list notificatn was 1st shown on the homepage. Instructions on how nd deadline 4 acceptance fee was there.
So it baffles me how things will suddenly change like that.
As for those of u continously pasting that the admisn list's out, why don't u fear God and stop playing with people's emotions. It's really unfair if u post wrong infos here.
Finally, i wish you all the best.

LESSON TEN: LOWER YOUR VOICES

Lowering of Voice in Speech is the last but not the least of the 10 golden advices of Luqman to all muslims.
It's not strange to see people raise their voices in speech un-necessarily even when there's no need for such.
The harshest of voices is the braying of asses which shouldn't be emulated.
The way you talk to people whether mildly or harshly portray the type of upbringing you had morally, educationally, religiously.
Nowadays you see women shout at people un-necessarily without any sense of humility. You even wonder how they behave to their parents, husbands, or fiances.
Also, you see men shout anyhow without any sense of responsibility,
You thus wonder how he'l behave at home.
This attitude has led to a sort of moral decadence in our society.
Prophet S.A.W said:
When you hear the roosters crow, ask Allah to grant from his bounty, for they have seen an angel. But when you hear a donkey's braying. Ask Allah's protection for it has seen a Shaitan(SATAN).

May Allah help us all to be modest in all we do.

LESSON NINE: ALWAYS BE MODERATE

Walking at a moderate pace is indeed encouraged.
You shouldn't be too hasty or too slow. But try to be moderate.
This doesn't apply to walking alone, rather applys to all aspects of a muslim's life.
A Muslim is neither an extremist nor a poor performing one.
A Muslim is neither Extravagant(In spending) nor a Miser.
A muslim is neither an (I TOO KNOW) nor a dullard.
But A muslim is he or she who realises that he/she is moderate in all he does, because that's why we're muslims and that's what our deen wants and encourages

LESSON EIGHT: DON'T BE ARROGANT

Pride is totally discouraged in Islam. A good muslim should be humble always, Any form of disrespect, abuse e.t.c are not expected of muslims. Infact, turning away people for one reason or the other is never encouraged.
We should put it at the back of our mind that we are all equal in the sight of Allah.
Nobody is too big or too small. Don't be arrogant in Speech, Behaviour, e.t.c
Don't despise or belittle others for any reason.
It's totally abhorred and ALLAH doesn't love the arrogant.
Prophet Muhammad S.A.W said: 'ANYONE WHO HAS A WEIGHT OF MUSTARD SEED OF ARROGANCE(PRIDE) IN HIM/HER WILL NOT ENTER PARADISE'

LESSON SEVEN: ALWAYS BE PATIENT

Patience is a good virtue.
A muslim is always patient in whatever he does. Patience is one of the characteristics of the prophets/messengers of Allah.
Infact, No prophet of Allah who was not annihiliated, abused by his people or even tested by Allah S.W.T in one way or the other but they were all patient. Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Yusuf, Isa, Ayyub, Muhammad etc were are all patient.
Life's not always rosy, Some things which aren't favourable to you will always occur, either as a test from Allah in form of sickness, death, reduction in wealth e.t.c or from people in form of insults, abuses, e.t.c.
So, we should always be patient knowing fully well that ' Allah is With The Patient ones'.
We should not dissociate ourselves from people because we can't bear their attitudes.
Prophet S.A.W discouraged us from that, rather he advises us to be patient, he says
'The Believer who consorts with people and endures their harm is better than a believer who does not consort with people nor does he endure their harm.

So said Luqman:
Be A Patient Muslim....

LESSON SIX: BE A GOOD AMBASSADOR

Enjoin people to do good and forbid evil. A good muslim should always be an advocate of good wherever he/ she is, forbidding evil deed as much as he could.
Prophet Muhammad S.A.W said ' He who witnesses wrong, let him redress it with his hand, if he cannot do that, then redress it by his tongue. If he cannot, then by his heart, which reflects the lowest of Iman(FAITH)

A Muslim should always be where good deeds are been executed, and always far away from any form of evil because that doesn't portray him in good light.

As regards the reception thing.
To me, it's something very difficult to avoid especially with the culture, peer and family influence e.t.c.
But in the case where you have no option than to do...
Something like this might work out:
Perform the Nikaah proper at the mosque, bride's parents home or at any designated place e.t.c
Have two reception grounds,
One for the males
The other for the females.
Those attending will be notified and strict adherence to this should be effected.
Satisfy each group according to what's allowed islamically.
The women can enjoy their merriment e.g dancing, singing etc in as much as it doesn't go against islamic principle.
An experienced Da'iyat can be invited to talk, advice, remind them of Marriage, its values etc.
For the men, it's quite easy , organise lots of food, drinks, to make it lively, a very sound da'i who has the ability to pass the message across but also jovial can be the magical one.
QUIZ(ISLAMIC) whereby simple questions will be asked with the aim of remembering etc can be organised, also gifts would be given out to people whether they answer it or not.
Hmmm, it's quite a difficult one considering our society cum the expenses that might be incured.

BUT 'A LOW KEY NIKKAH' might be the perfect answer.

Ameen, In that case you really need to talk to your spouse cum her family before d D day, at least explaining things to them, also letting them know why it's bad, telling them it doesn't mean you disrespect them in anyway e.t.c. But to me, it shouldn't be an issue to be raised on that day causing chaos on a day supposed to be a happy one.
BTW The family one marries from make it alot easier or difficult. E. G Someone who marries from a confirmed Sunni family might not experience this.

LESSON FIVE: OBSERVE YOUR SALAT(PRAYER)

Observation of Salat(PRAYER) five times daily at its appropriate time is highly encouraged.
Unfortunaetly many muslims today, neglect their prayers under many guises, Some don't even observe it at all. Forgetting that prophet Muhammad S.A.W said:
The first deed of a servant that will be judged on the last day is SALAT(PRAYER).
It should be stated emphatically that SALAT is not only compulsory but also distinguishes a Muslim from a disbeliever.
Prophet muhammad S.A.W said:
The difference between the servant of Allah and infidelity is to abandon prayer.

So Said Luqman, Observe your Salat
Do you observe your SALAT?
How regular is it?
Hope you know its advantages?
Do you see its impact in your daily life?
May Allah make it(observation of Salat) easy for us, our friends, siblings, and the whole muslim ummah

LESSON FOUR: DO NOT BE-LITTLE YOUR DEEDS

The need to be careful with our deeds be it good or bad. A muslim doesn't underrate his deeds(good/bad).
Prophet S.A.W said: Do not belittle any act of good,even if it's to meet your brother with a smiling face. As insignificant as a SMILE might be it should be encouraged because it's a good deed.
Likewise any bad deed shouldn't be taken lightly. Don't say it's just a small sin(NO SIN IS SMALL).
No,No,No, Do not look at the magnitude of your offence, rather look at the magnitude of he who you're offending (ALLAH)

LESSON THREE: OBEDIENCE TO ALLAH IS PARAMOUNT

Yes, it never stops there, Obedience to parents is necessary but that of Allah over-rides it. Even though your parents encourage or ask you to associate partners with or disobey Allah, Do not obey them(So it's not out of place to disobey your parents when it comes to the worship of Allah),
Remember: 'THERE IS NO OBEDIENCE TO THE CREATURE IN DISOBEDIENCE OF THE CREATOR'.
There's no room for compromise in deen. But.......


Be good to them generally, Do not let your parents angry with you because of your belief, explain things to them, Let them know why you are doing what you do, Let them know why you think they are wrong. Still be the loving, caring, compassionate son/daughter you have always been.

LESSON TWO: BE GOOD TO YOUR PARENTS

Immediately, after the stern warning of the dangers inherent in SHIRK(Associating partners with Allah)
He advices all of the importance of being a good child.
The hardship and difficulty in conceiving, giving birth, taking care of a child were highlighted.
It's thus incumbent upon us all to obey our parents in order to avoid the wrath of Allah.
How much do you respect your parents?
How high do you hold them in esteem?
Do you even take care of them at all?
Are they happy with you?
Do you pray for them at all whether living or dead?
These are questions we should ask ourselves to know how much we obey our parents.

So, Luqman advices us to be good, obedient, listening, caring, etc to our parents BUT........

LESSON ONE:
Do Not Associate Partners With Allah.
Any form of association of partners with Allah is a grievous sins. It's so grievous a sin that Allah S.W.T warns that He Will NEVER forgive a person who indulges in such except for a true and sincere repentance before Death.
But one question comes to mind i.e How Do People associate partners with Allah?
It should be stated unequivocally that As-SHIRK is not only limited to idol worship as many people think. But it entails any form of association of partners in all forms of 'Ibadah. The scholars of Islam actually categorised it into
i- As Shirkul Akbar (BIG SHIRK
ii- As Shirkul Asgar (SMALL SHIRK).
Let's look at some few examples:
1. SUPPLICATION (DU'A): Prophet muhammad S.A.W said: Supplication is worship. We should know that whenever we pray it's only Allah that can answer us, so we should mind the way we do that, some muslims nowadays fall prey to this and involve in Shirku Du'a.
2- Swearing with other things other than Allah. Prophet muhammad S.A.W says: Whoever wishes to swear, he should that with the name of Allah or keep quiet. It's totally prohibited to swear with any other thing apart from Allah. It's common to see people nowadays swearing with Qur'an, Sango, father, mother, Yaasin etc, all these are unislamic and totally abhorred.
3- Ar- Riyaa: This's the act of doing things for people to see you. It might be for them to praise,honour, thank you etc. This's a shirkul Asgar and could occur to anyone.
Grave worship, Excessive Praise of the 'AULIYAA' (Some even hold them in high esteem than Allah, and prophet muhammad.

These are some forms of shirk which Luqman advices muslims to go against it.
May Allah help us too, to uphold this WISE ADVICE.

Those were the words of Luqman to his son.
Indeed, Allah has revealed this to prophet muhammad S.A.W to serve as a lesson to us all.
There are many lessons to be learnt from these Ayats and Insha Allah from tomorrow i will do justice to it as much as i could( I tagged it 10 GOLDEN ADVICE OF LUQMAN TO MUSLIMS) and i urge all of us to follow and contribute as much as we could, so that we can all learn from it.
May Allah make it easy for us all

18- And do not turn away from people through pride nor walk haughtily on on earth, surely, Allah does not love any arrogant boaster(who admires himself and despises others)

19- And walk at a moderate pace, (neither quick nor slow) and lower your voice. Verily the harshest of all voices is the braying of the asses.

15- But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me (ALLAH) others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return. And i shall tell you what you used to do

16- O my son, even if it is the weight of a mustard seed deposited inside a rock, or in the heavens, or in the earth, Allah will surely bring it out.
Verily Allah knows all subtleties, All aware

17- O my son, perform salat and enjoin the good and forbid evil and bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily, these are some of the important commandments.

Suratul Luqman Chapter 31 verses 13 - 19

13- When Luqman told his son and he was advicing him he said:
O my son, do not associate partners with Allah. Verily Shirk(polytheism) is a grievous sin

14- And we have enjoined on man(to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years, give thanks to Me and to your parents. Unto Me is the final destination.

Alhamdulillah for been muslims. It's undisputable that the Qur'an is a miraculous book. Infact it's a book meant to constantly remind muslims of their duties.
It contains a lot of lessons, for those who wish to learn.
On This thread Inshaa Allah we are taking a deep and insightful look at the advice of Luqman to his son. What an advice it's brothers and sisters.
The lessons learnt from it we will try to dissect it as much as we could. I pray Allah make it a success for us all.

Hello Guys.
It's been a while here(no thanks to some unforseen circumstances) and i must really admit that it's getting out of hand by the day.
Anyhow, regarding the list, i must tell you that am shocked that it's not been released up till now.
And from what have been hearing from different people, they said we're resuming Sept. 23 though am not sure of that.
BTW guys lets just exercise more patience, free our mind a little bit to avoid HBP. Continue with the good spirit of Hope, Prayer, Optimism.
Anytime UNILORIN like let them release the list, (don't be surprised it can be today) your name(s) will surely be there.

Based on the provision, the Baraje faction also claimed that since the NEC of the PDP ratified the conduct of the 2013 national convention in its meeting of August 22, and the congress took place nine days after the NEC meeting on August 31, the party has run afoul of the required 21-day notice required toinform INEC about the exercise.
The faction also claimed that there was evidence that unelected delegates from the South West Zonal Caretaker Committee participated and voted at the 2013national convention, contravening Section 85(3) of the 2010 Electoral Act.
They also claimed that the decisionof the screening subcommittee to conduct the screening of delegatesless than 24 hours before the convention, falls short of democratic conduct as it does not afford disqualified delegates to press for justice.
The faction also claimed that the action of the PDP elected vice chairman, Uche Secondus, and his supporters to wear vests advocating for votes for Mr. Secondus violated Article K, Page 8, of the PDP Code of Conduct for Conventions, which states that, “a party member, aspirant, candidate or agent shall not canvass for voteswithin the vicinity of the congress venue or party primary convention.”

The group detailed a long list of violation of the law by the Tukur-led PDP.
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took a dramatic twist Tuesday as the breakaway faction led by AbubakarBaraje asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP.
The new faction accused the Tukur-led PDP of failing to notify INEC of an amendment to the party’s constitution as required by the Nigerian constitution.
Section 222 (D) of the Nigerian Constitution stipulates, ”Any alteration in its (political party) registered constitution is also registered in the principal office of the Independent National Electoral Commission within thirty days of the making of such alteration.”
A statement of claims which the Baraje faction is taking before the Lagos High Court, also asked the court to declare Mr. Tukur an illegalchairman of the ruling party on account that his membership of the PDP was not properly approvedas stipulated, after his expulsion bythe National Executive Council of the PDP in 2001.
The statement said the party’s constitution was amended in 2009to give effect to the 2012 PDP constitution. However, the group said it has found evidence that “strange clauses” which were not part of the proposed amendment were inserted into the original produced version of the 2012 constitution, and those alterations were not approved by the party convention and the National Executive Committee as required by law.
The group said those clauses rendered the current PDP constitution “forged and invalid”.
“The forged 2012 constitution wasnot equally filled before INEC as required by the constitution, thereby making the PDP constitution upon which the 2013 convention was held an invalid document and the outcome of thatconvention invalid, as it was held with no valid constitution,” the claims filed by the Baraje faction, seen by journalists, said.
“The proof of these evidence can be seen in the approved memo by the PDP NEC upon which the amendment was done in the 2012 and the original version of the PDP constitution filled with INEC will as well prove these violations.”
A spokesperson for INEC, Kayode Idowu, said there was no immediate information on the petition.
The application is the latest indication the crisis rocking the ruling party was far from over.
The Baraje faction has the support of seven governors, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several lawmakers. They accuse theTukur-led PDP of hijacking the party and being dictatorial.
A meeting between both sides fixed for Tuesday was postponed till September 10.
In its filing before the court and INEC, the Baraje faction of the partyrecalled how Mr. Tukur was fired from the party on 31 May 2001, along with seven others.
Those sacked were Bamanga Tukur, Don Etiebet, Asheik Jarma, Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, Emmanuel Ibeshi, Harry Marshal and Gbenga Olawepo.
The group cited Article 10(b) iii of the PDP 2009 constitution and Article 8(17) of the 2012 amended constitution which states that any member of the party who loses hismembership by expulsion can only return to the party with the approval of the party executive at his ward, state and national levels, who shall give him a waiver.
“Since the expulsion of Bamanga Tukur in 2001, he has not complied with the above requirement of the PDP constitution, meaning that his purported participation at the 2012 convention where he was elected was a fraud and invalid, as he is not yet a member of the party,” the group said.
The Baraje faction also asked for the declaration of the August 2013convention of the PDP as illegal based on “participation of ‘illegal delegates’, the disqualification of elected delegates by the Screening Subcommittee of the National Convention Committee, and the failure of the party to comply with the provision of Section 85(1) of the Electoral Act.
The section holds that, “a registered political party shall give INEC at least 21-day notice of any convention, congress, conference or meeting convened for the purpose of electing members of itsexecutive committees, and other governing bodies.”
