The anxiety is killing and even Grad coordinators are not helping matters. One of my Universities (LSU) said they have sent out initial offers, na there my mind sink.One prof that even agreed before is now saying she's not sure, that she has one kind yeye appointment somewhere...make she better reject the appointment o.(What comes to my mind is : " so na so this application fee just waste?"

Guy I check gradecafe daily. I even mailed one of the POIs whom I contacted before applying when he told me to apply since my research interests are aligned with their school's research work. His recent reply was that when I resume we would talk more about joining his group (when I'm looking for full funding). As I see the reply, body just weak.
It's just prayers now. Let's hope it ends in praise!!

Sorry about your test scores. If others can do it, you can do better.
To be candid, your scores are not competitive (my opinion since the GRE score range is between130 and 170).
As Mikkyboy has said you should brace up and try again, only after you determine your areas of weakness and strengthen yourself (check your GRE ETS profile for your quantitative diagnostic report). There are a lot of useful materials on this thread which you would find helpful and there has been some reports of great improvements from test retakers here. Although, preparing now to ace your GRE may result in you not meeting up with Fall '19, since you're interested in being funded.
Another possibility (of which I may be wrong) is finding out from the designated graduate coordinators of schools you're interested in if they award funding just based on GPAs alone (since I assume you mean that your GPA is 3.7/4). Although, from knowledge I've garnered so far GRE scores play a significant role in funding decisions.
Kindly go through the thread (say 300 pages) and you'll be glad you did. You'll get advice and the materials you need.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about study groups. I wasn't in one. I believe the Note full videos and TOEFL official guide are sufficient to get a competitive score.

Also a couple of us have posted some advice concerning practising for the test. You'll need to go through a couple of pages, so we don't have to repeat some of what we've said earlier.

There's a help centre provided on the website. It's like a "?" /question mark logo/help button at the right top of the screen. Click on it and you'll find the solution to this.
I can't currently remember the info stated, but it just requires you to give in a tabular form details on the duration of your studies, start term, start of research, etc. I think all you need to do is use your discretion to create a MSword file containing these details. Nothing so special I guess.

I woke up exactly at 9am on Saturday morning for 10am exam (village people wan reason my matter but I no gree), I quickly shower and rush down to the receptionist and check out from the hotel. As a JJC wey I be for Lagos I don't have choice than to ask for directions to my test center, mehn Lagos folks no get joy some of them don't even answer me not to talk of helping me out of my situation.
To cut the story short I found my way to oshodi, I approached a young man and asked for directions to Gbagada, dude took me to a nearby motor park under the bridge and hand me over to one rugged looking agbero, I told the guy that am going to gbagada he said I should enter that the bus is heading to that side, i quickly jumped in like a policeman that wants to forcefully collect bribe from a motorist lol.
After about two minutes on the road we got hooked in a long hold up, I checked my time it was exactly 9:30am i chuckled and i said to myself "Bayo, na the second trick wey don wan use catch u be dis". I politely asked a old man sitting beside me how long is gbagada from where we are, he said is still far i inquire if it is treekable he said no, Haa!! i don enter am today i was sweating profusely thinking of how am going to by pass the traffic, I look through the window there was no sign of bike men, at this point i don't have a choice than to accept my faith that e don be for me today 50k go down the drain my American dream is about to be cut short, lots of things are running my mind yet I kept my cool knowing fully well that i will make it.
At about 9:45am the road was through and I got to my test center at 10:15am I quickly locate a food vendor nearby and I ordered for a plate of rice because hunger wey dey wire me that time ehn, i can't explain it lol. I got into the test center and did my clearance filled the form and signed, the security asked me to tender my means of identification I showed him my international passport and appointment script he said the name on my passport does not tally with the appointment page, I say wetin oga check very well jor I was so furious and frustrated, are you blind or what? I asked him. He said sorry it was a mistake.

DURING THE TEST

The first section happens to be the Issue task, it was quite easy and understandable because have come across it before on ETS website, check here... http://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/issue/pool.
The Argumentative task was tough but I managed to write 6 paragraphs. Afterwards, I was presented the Quantitative section, the questions is not too hard but I fumbled alot i encountered some integers, geometry, word problems and data presentation. I barely use the on screen calculator because most of questions does not requires long calculation, I did my best and proceeded to the verbal section. Here, the time fly like a bird unlike the quantitative where you have luxury of time, I approached the Reading Comprehension first and spent approximately 15minutes on them then I move on to the TC and SE questions, unfortunately all the vocabularies I learnt didn't show up but those I encountered was very easier for me, i later discovered that have over read lol.
At the end of the test the computer displayed my scores on the screen V... 160. Q... 149.


TIPS.

Based on my experience, I will advise those that wants to write the GRE exam to embrace the official guide, I take God beg you that materials is the real deal the reason why i have a low score on my quantitative was because I didn't make use of the official guide but I read it for verbal.
For those that are weak in calculations pls don't be scared start from scratch, make sure you have the GRE Math Bible it's very effective and helpful, you can also get Manhattan series, they've got some madt elimination method for the quantitative section.
I will recommend the official guide for verbal, follow by Manhattan 5lb then magoosh, you will be fine. Don't bother to memorize vocabularies if you want to learn words effectively have a mobile dictionary on your phone Merriam Webster preferably and make use of www.dictionary.com it helpful.
Concerning reading comprehension, make sure you are reading at least two articles on The New Yorker, The Economist and Aldaily.com they have got some abstruse passages, all you need to do is to make sense of the articles and summarize it, I did it and it really helps alot.
Practice practice and practice if not for God sake at least for the sake of your hard earned 50k lol. I discovered I was weak in calculations and I embrace the concept of "strength my strength " which lies in verbal, however, I immersed myself in quantitative learning some basic ideas and approach.
The GRE demands mental strength, it's not easy to gaze at the computer for 4hours, when it is a week to your exam stop reading be sleeping very well, on the examination day it's not advisable to bring text books to the test center you don't need it. Eat very well and drink enough water before you leave for the exam and make sure you arrived at test center very early at least an hour to the exam, don't be like me ensure you set up your alarm before you sleep.

hello house, I wrote the GRE exam yesterday. At the end of the test I was asked if I wanted to send my scores to my intended graduate schools.
On that section, I choosed the option of sending my previous scores and the new scores to those schools. I want to ask if have not make a mistake by sending two different scores. Besides, will the schools receive both scores?

My previous scores was 295, while my present scores is 309.

I guess your two scores would be sent since that's the option you selected. I believe schools have had experiences with students reporting more than a set of scores. If you have any fears I think you should contact the graduate coordinator to allay them. I personally believe they'll select the best. But please ensure they do from your own end by letting them know by mail.
Also congrats on your test score. It must have not been easy. Thanks for sharing your score and please can you give some advice to those who would be writing afterwards and so that the aim of the group can be achieved?

When I was filling in my statement of purpose, I arranged it into paragraphs, but when I finished, and I viewed it in the template of personal statement, it wasn't in paragraph, it was scattered. I copied and pasted it in the template, I don't know if that will be the cause.
I want to know whether someone in the house typed directly into the personal statement template and still found out it was still disorganised when viewed from the template after application.

I believe sales of admission forms for the new academic session is over.
If I am correct, sales of forms begin around early June or so. I don't know if the current strike could influence the sales of admission forms this year.
Just keep your ears open from May this year for the next academic session.

Sorry I'm just posting this. I was hoping to wait for all decisions to be made regarding my applications. I guess there's no harm in giving an update.

I applied to three schools:
1. Texas Tech University - Applied early October and awaiting decisions (seems admission and funding decisions are simultaneous)
2.University of Louisiana, Lafayette - Finished applications in October and provisional admission on 17 October. Awaiting funding decision.
3. New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology - Applied in November. Awaiting decisions.

I don't think you'll need electives except they're compulsory.
The main thing is to aim higher than 4.55. You know how results come out. Never exactly as we expect.

Then you're good to go. I'll say you should even aim for 4.70 if it's possible, to account for any disappointments.

I contacted a POI, who advised to apply, but that was before writing the GRE

Then I think you should contact this individual again with your updated profile.
I was faced with a similar situation (Pet Geology).
I was in contact with the POI at UTexas Austin, before GRE. When I got my score I informed the POI and she didn't check the mail for about 5 months, and hasn't replied till date (I use a free online mail tracker).
I just assumed she just couldn't reply again coz she wasn't interested anymore.
Your case may be different. Contact them and your POI may be interested in your vast research experience!

Who knows if this is competitive enough to get a PhD admit at UTexas, Austin (Geological sciences)?

I would suggest you look at profiles of admitted graduate geophysics students at UTexas on sites like gradecafe and also contact potential supervisors. If both seem hopeful then you should go ahead.
But I must also tell you the truth, "UTexas, Austin is indeed a big/competitive school"

Course: PhD Geology or M.Sc in Environmental science or GIS (I am seriously considering a slight change in career path)
I was considering University of Nebraska@ Lincoln (POI not very certain due to my GRE score but still encouraged me to apply hoping other factors will be fully considered), Southern Illinios University@carbondale (Still yet to get a POI) and University of Texas @ ElPaso (Still yet to get a POI).

Mikkyboy has given you good advise. Your GRE is actually low. Make use of msinus and gradecafe to evaluate your profile. Also check those schools to ensure they carry out research in Environmental Geology. Then contact professors of interest. Their response may give you a better idea of whether to go on to apply or if you'll need to rewrite the GRE.

But I'll advise that you refire the GRE, at least it gets you better school options and the possibility of being funded.

your story is inspiring. almost similar to mine, though I have not graduated yet.

My first semester result in 100L was 4.18. The second semester wasn't any better.

But from 200Level, I just thought I could do better. I focused more on my studies and ever since then, my GP have been revolving around 4.9 (sometimes slightly above it, sometimes slightly below it). I once had a not too nice result of 4.77 though .

Nice. With those GPAs you'll go a long way and possibly finish with a first sef, that's if you're not in yet.
Just keep pushing and don't let the Naija factor make you feel it isn't worth it. I've really benefitted from my result. Hopefully, more benefits ahead.
