sampatdikachi: Hi. Thanks to all those who take out time to answer many of our questions. Please, I would like to know how the online recommendation works. Is the link sent to the emails of lecturers provided after or before the payment of the application fee? knowing this will let me know if I should further pressure my uncle about the money. No idea really. But I know they were sent emails immediately I entered and saved their details. |

Evans211: Absolutely ! Thanks so much for the insights. Most of the deadlines are Jan 15. I understand the earlier i submit application(s) the better... what date do you think is ideal to meet up prior deadline? No definite date. Just any time between when applications start and the January deadline. |

Evans211: Hello, good day everyone..
After sending series of messages and enquiries about the possibility of funding; tuition waive and GA to the graduate coordinator (Political Science) of Iowa State University, He requested for my academic profile for his personal perusal to estimate my chances. I did the needful and after a couple of days, his response goes thus;
I have conferred with our Graduate Admissions committee and based on the information you have provided, we think that are you are extremely likely to be admitted if you apply to our program and that you will have a good chance of receiving half-time assistantship. The final decision would have to be made on the basis of your full application and is awarded on a merit basis as we consider all the applicants we get. Your GRE scores are similar to students who have received half-time offers in the past. We help you will choose to apply to Iowa State.
My major concern is, the full tuition is not addressed and I can not really make sense of the ''Half-time assistantship'' statement.. Yes, I am sounding naïve because I might erroneously misinterpret it. Kindly help to chip in your understanding of his response and tuition funding as regards Iowa state uni...
Thanks in proxy.
sherlock5577 ponpon
Anyone- please help! I doubt you'd get full funding from that statement except they have provision for it and they find your profile competitive. I'd advice you try contacting researchers at other universities for graduate research assistant opportunities. Also contact other graduate coordinators. I want to believe you can get better offers! Yes you can! Fall '20 |

exeasy: I have been following this thread for a more than a year now and I must commend the people keeping alive. In the spirit of doing same, see my profile below GRE:Q156V161 GPA:4.96 Undergraduate Major: Plant biology and Biotechnology Intended program: PhD in molecular and Cell biology, I’m open other areas like bioinformatics, stem biology or cancer biology(might be a challenge given my discipline)
I sent my scores to four schools Cornell Ohio State University Boston University University of California
My AWA score was poor (2.5) and I thought I killed it considering how relatively simple the topics were and how lengthy I wrote on them. I had 2 weeks to prepare for GRE and only read for AWA few hours to exams, I just gleaned info I could on Nairaland and watched YouTube videos on it.
Considering my profile, please I need advice on other ambitious and safe schools
@Time2smile @scholastica16 Oh wow. You've got a great profile! Especially the CGPA. People dey para sha! I hope to see your good news here soon!!! |

Oddy16: Guys please I need your help in school selection. I want to go for my Masters or Ph.D in Public health, I graduated with 3.6/5 in Nutrition. I'm yet to write GRE and hope to get not less than 310. I have no publication, I have work experience that is not much relevant. My LORs will be coming from an assistant lecturer and employer. I will surely do my best in SoP. My transcript is not yet evaluated (Please will it affect my profile if I don't use WES?)
I'm mentally exhausted from searching for schools, my priority is FULL funding and at least a middle tier school. Please which school can I apply based on these? I need your help please. Not all schools require a transcript evaluation for an application. So this depends on the schools you'll be applying to. I really hope you find what you're searching for! It's an ardous but rewarding journey! Yes you can! |

Chris4guns: Hello and good evening. Am a little bit confused now and so I need help from anyone who has gone through such similar experience. I registered for GRE with B.y mafits ( truly reputable) wrote the exam Oct 5 and reported my scores to my chosen schools and at first could access and see my score but after going back to see if they sent my scores to my prospective schools here comes this message you have an outstanding debt of $240 with the same order number registered for the test and as suchcould not access my score report option to know if the schools have seen or not. Please what should I do contact them or BY mafits. Please the gurus in the house help a brother, as my deadline are close by I think you should confirm from GRE why there's an outstanding debt. If this challenge comes from BY Mafit, then you can lay your complaint to them. This mustn't be funny! |

Evans211: Just got back to my abode. Left Dragnet almost immediately after the exam. It’s being a long day and i wish I could say more.. anyways, not so impressed but a bit happy and confused how I managed to get 162Q and 156 in Verbal despite burning the midnight candle and putting more efforts in verbal. My profile goes thus;
Update-
GRE- 318 (Q162 V156 AWA 3.5) Official Toefl- Undecided (not sure if it’s needed) GPA- 3.28/4 Degree- Political Science
Schools (MA program)
1- Bowling Greene University 2- Cleveland State University 3- University of Kansas 4- George Washington University
This is an update from my last week exam. AWA gave me a devastating blow.. Perhaps, I saw it coming but this is a rude shock!
To the Gurus in the house, not sure if this is an okay score; including AWA, but am I good to go ? Haba, I believe you're good to go! Kudos on your scores! You do well! Applications must have begun for many schools. Please secure a potential supervisor with funding and apply early! Yes y'all can #Fall '20 |

victorsol: hello bro UG - Agricultural Economics and I want to go for Agricultural Economics for masters too. finished with first class grade. My GRE score is below 300 too though very close to 300. I have like 4 other professional certificates, one publication and the second under review and working experience. is it compulsory I write GRE again to get funding or I can use it like that. although I message one US graduate school yesterday for PhD direct from bsc and they said no but going for master could fetch me GA with my profile (this is from Graduate Program coordinator). Actually i didn't one to put my profile here but I need a sincere advice, pls should I write another GRE or I apply like this since my other profile is strong because GRE is energy sucking. Seriously I can't really say. I believe people have gotten funding with lower GRE scores. But a high GRE score could boost your chances of getting funding in higher ranked schools. But you seem to have a good profile. I'd advise that you contact many more graduate coordinators. Search for "Agric Econs Gradcafe" on Google and you should find admission results for many schools. This might guide you. Also contact many professors who share similar research interests with you and make a decision from their response. If you get positive responses, then I would advise you apply. The thing about rewriting the exam is whether you'd be prepared enough to get a higher score. Moreover, early application is very important. Schools have deadlines for applicants hoping to get some assistantships. So if you'll rewrite you have limited time to prepare. But you should reach out to more researchers. |

Scholastica16: I have been off Nairaland for a bit. Working on my thesis etc. I gleaned through the past pages and realised most people are complaining about the recent heightened difficulties in the quants section. User4321 gave an appropriate explanation but there is something I need to add. The experimental section could very well be the first exam you could see. ETS are known to add that to their schemings. If you observe that your questions are very difficult in the first section, they could very well be the experimental section. Boss, good to see your post after a long while! |

NwanyiOkpa: Hello,
I just took the GRE today by God's grace.
Score was poor and i feel like crying. One girl was just vomitting anyhow in the hall. Anyways, that's not the reason i failed sha.
Q-150 V—147
I sha sent my score to Michigan Tech, Univ Missouri, Univ Texas, Dallas, Uni Texas Tyler.
I will be booking a date for a re-write later today.
I feel ashamed of myself. You'll be fine! You don't need to feel ashamed, it's not an easy exam. My body was weak when I saw my score then. I've heard of people who got full funding with your score but had other strong aspects in their profiles. Just weigh your options well and don't be too hasty in rewriting till you know your weak points. I wish you the best !! |

Employers at subsequent interviews took me serious since they new I already had a job in prices engineering and it was a matter of time before I got a role as an engineer.

My current office sent an offer in less than 24 hours.

NwanyiOkpa: Good but "it was a memorable experience..." is not a score. Please tell us how many months u prepared, ur scores in each section and the rest. U don't have to be shy. I posted what's below here on the 2nd of May, 2018. As I said earlier, I couldn't recall much but knew the two points I mentioned below would be of some help to folks here. For materials and tips I'd advice those yet to write to check out page 428 for a Google drive link. Those were posted long after I'd written. I think they'll be of great help to everyone. "Finally I have written GRE. I just wrote mine over an hour ago and didn't meet close to my expectations. Nice one elevatedmind for sharing. We'll just keep trying and hoping. My scores are: 154V, 157Q. Waiting for the AWA. The exam seemed far tougher than I anticipated. The sequence was VQVQV. I started practising over two months back when I scored 308 on PowerPrep. My practise tests last week and Monday (2days back) where about 320-323, so when I saw my scores it was somewhat depressing. My resolve is not broken. For those yet to write, practise hard and rest well as elevatedmind mentioned. Endeavour to be at the test venue in time to collect your thoughts. Thanks to everyone who gave out a helping hand through your advice and materials. All the best to those ahead!!! Cheers!!!" 2nd May, 2018. |

Tohsine: Good day everyone, I wrote GRE last month. Verbal: 143 Quant: 156 AWA: 3.5.
I intended to apply for the Spring 2020 admission. Needless to say, I used only one week to fully prepare for the test due to the nature of my job, although I have always been checking GRE vocabulary words on Magoosh flashcards during leisure time. I never knew my verbal and AWA skills were poor, perhaps because I did not have ample time to take the practice tests. My questions: Which ebook is the best for verbal and AWA? How can I improve these scores? Which material can I use to study Data Interpretation as I was unable to solve some questions in that section on the test day?
Proposed Schools (PhD)? Purdue University University of Florida Virginia Tech Kansas State University
Area of Interests Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering or Environmental Engineering

klifeomg: Thank you very much Sherlock5577 for the revelation. Please do you know anybody of such that you can link me up with especially if they are on this forum? I will begin my search as regards the graduate schools that accept it. In my own case, I am done with course work which took 1 yr and this 2019/2020 academic session is dedicated to project work and publications ONLY. You're welcome. I can't recall if anyone here got admitted and/or funded through this route. But I am positive that I found scenarios like this most likely while searching for schools to apply to. I think you've gone far enough to get a "partial transcript" (this also depends on whether your current school has policies allowing the collection of a transcript at this stage. |
