There is a reason why our people in Nigeria have the phrase "money miss road". Those are not empty words, that phrase is loaded with wisdom. There is a reason why those canal axis were unused for decades, while adjoining areas were fully developed, until impunity became order of the day. Treasure17: Rainy season in Lagos is your sure bet before you erect any building. However, people in charge of approval or condition approval whatever should be severely monitored. Money and resources gone. Why on earth will you erect a building beside canal. |

God bless you real good!!! Most of the good people in our government secretariats are struggling because they don't delve into illegalities to make tons of money. I insist that almost all the owners, if not all of them, know exactly what they are doing! Even in small towns outside of Lagos, you will always see government's X mark on illegal fences, plots, shops and houses. There is no way government won't give you more than enough notice. Ignoring those notices and pretending to see it just two weeks to demolition is your personal headache. You can only fool those who don't care but pretend to care about the system when it suits them. GloriousGbola: In 2004 my company renovated multiple facilities across lagos. The then hod was pally with people in town planning and did upgrades/renovations without approval. Fast forward to 2012,we wanted to do a fresh set of upgrades. Where are your old approvals. No where to be found. We paid for the approvals and paid penalties.
On one project one of my supervisors wanted to extend beyond our boundary. It was literally taxi drivers who strated threatening him. They said they knew where the boundary was and they would go to local govt
On this same project we extended into the right of way. A year later lasbca came after us and made us take down the structures within right of way.
Contraventions and cutting of corners and trying to be smart all come with a caveat - you are always at risk with no source of legal redress.
You may get away with it if your contravention is not constituting a nuisance. But when you see literally causing floods, deaths, property and environmental damage to others.
These people should be happy lasg is not suing then for gross negligence, environmental pollution, involuntary manslaughter and aggravated property damage.
Maybe that needs to be done so people can understand |

It is willful. Balotellis know exactly what they are doing when it's outside their region and know when to turn deaf and dumb Wickedfacts: Once people build illegally on water channels, you remove what is obstructing the flow of water.

Leave the Balotelli to his antics. They promote willful ignorance when it suits them. That's why they turn deaf and dumb when government enforces their notice in Anambra CluelessMODS: It is only in Nigeria that people like you call degradation of the environment nonsense yet you want Nigeria to be like Dubai. Una never start. The demolition of houses in Eboyin and Anambra was also because of tribal affiliations abi? |

Simple! Their bravado on Biafra is now stale. Yorubas pandered to their excesses for too long and too much familiarity brings contempt. What they try with Yorubas can't be tried with their masters up North, they will deal merciless with them without giving a damn, and even Niger-Delta people don't have time for their antics. That's why Wike showed them real pepper. After 2023 election, the game is over. You make threats about leaving then you have to back it up with action. Leave!!! We love our Chiomas, Nnenas, Adas etc but sorry, Yoruba no dey look Uche face again CommonSense1967: Whatever, have your elected representative make moves in the National Assembly for separation, not some delusional IPOB terrorist cannibal monkeys. Then we will take you seriously. Also, have your people move back en mass to your Biafra then other Nigerians will know that you mean business. You cannot be crying that you want to be left alone when you are moving to other people's lands daily. Go around the world and study people clamoring for independence or separation, they will stay in their land and ask to be left alone. Not running to other people's land while telling the same people to leave you alone. It's oxymoronic. |

Reno don craze with that paragraph on ostentatious lifestyle. ... Sir Mobolaji Bank Anthony... What a sparkling legacy! I salute. Having a Rolls Royce neither makes you a billionaire or the wealthiest person in Nigeria. Many rich people then and now do not indulge in such ostentatious lifestyles.
For example, the Time Magazine article, which I gave you the link to, also mentions Mobolaji Bank Anthony as one of the wealthiest men in Nigeria as of 1965. Yet, despite having such stupendous wealth, Mr. Bank Anthony did not buy himself a Rolls Royce. What he did with his money was to build a series of free hospitals, which he donated to the Lagos government, including the Ikeja General Hospital, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi. |
